Me after listening to the entire ODST score for the 500th time
"What can I say - it was one hell of a night."
This line has always stuck with me. After everything this squad went through, after playing through the whole game with all the characters, all the danger. The blood, the struggle. The dirt.

@@sirbibton I believe they're referring to the era of video games this was released in. The 7th generation of consoles had huge libraries of standard-setting games and a lot of competition to keep each other on their toes; Lots of exclusives, new IPs, competent development studios, etc.
It was a time were u could actually be excited for games instead of cautiously optimistic and or distrustful. The games during the Xbox 360 years were top tier. I mean that for every platform too.
There’s no such thing as a best time for gaming, there was just an age where gaming hit you the hardest

I practically grew up playing the Halo series, and Halo 3: ODST was the first game that really got me thinking about how important the OST in video games is. I'm so glad I got to share/request this one!

It’s almost an obligation to play this, “Difference for Darkness” and “Asphalt and Ablution” whenever it rains outside.
This and Charlie Brown gave me such a phenomenal appreciation for jazz. ODST, meanwhile, gave me an immense appreciation for noir-themed subjects, whether they be a crime flick or Cyberpunk, lol.

you should check out the track deference for darkness from this soundtrack. It combines themes of the overture but add jazz to the mix.

I remember the context of ODST and Reach, Bungie's condition for being released by Microsoft was to make two more Halo games. Both were like a love letter to the franchise. A wonderful sendoff in both their stories, soundtracks, and characters.
Martin O'Donnell is an absolute genius. I really hope you react to the 48 minute masterpiece "Music of the Spheres" where all Destiny's music began. it's 8 pieces so you could do it 1 at a time.

Deference for Darkness is quite possibly my favorite piece of music ever composed, in any genre or style.
It's a shame that most video game, heck even a lot of film soundtracks go unnoticed. Many pieces tell a story that touches the heart or mind. Halo may be known for it's monk choir, but there are so many pieces that I wish more people talked about.
I used to listen to ODST's soundtrack to sleep when it released, such good ambiance.

Halo’s music has always been set apart from all other music in gaming, When the soundtrack hits, you know it’s Halo. The raw emotion, the horror of futuristic war, the joy of victory, the sorrow of defeat. You don’t just hear the music, you experience it.

It does have a unique sound but nothing you described actually explained why the soundtrack of Halo games always sticks out so well
There are so many more tracks that should be appreciated from the entire Halo series. Martin O'Donnell just absolutely hit it out of the park, singlehandedly providing an example for how powerful and beautiful orchestral music for video games can be.
It's hard to nail down specific choices because all of it is so good, but please give more of his halo music a listen
Piano comes from a direction, you can almost pin point it--not only they try to create a live concert experience, but I think also that in the ODST’s story, the team was being contacted from a unknown source, it actually provide guidance and help to the team in the story, so they try to find the source alone the way while surviving--The piano could represent the unknown but friendly source.
This OST always feel warm, yet cold. Which is fitting for the theme of ODST, a hopeful, yet bleak city in ruin.
I love EVERY one of those Halo Bungie soundtracks. Even own them all on CD.
Having played in bands and orchestra, I appreciate the orchestra sound. My body would be vibrating with the music.

Pretty much every version of the ODST soundtrack on youtube has all its tracks mashed together by level, rather than left as separate songs. So almost all of them have those kind of "soundscape" parts in addition to one or more melodic sections.
The game alternates between your character, alone, searching for your lost squad in an abandoned city, and playing through the action-filled flashbacks of your squadmates as you uncover more of their trail. So, appropriately, the soundtrack alternates almost 1:1 between lonely and heroic tracks.

Another track from this soundtrack called "Deference for Darkness" is really the staple of the entire game and generally considered a masterpiece. It's a really beautiful track, one of my favourite songs of all time. It would be awesome if you could check it out and make a reaction, since you seemingly enjoyed "Overture" so much. I can guarantee you that it will be worthwhile.
Halo 3 finished the fight theme is angelic and powerful. Everyone should definitely give it a listen.
Halo in my own opinion, has some of the best soundtracks for games ever. Halo CE is very Ancient and Mysterious, Halo 2 is very Melancholic, Mysterious and Epic. Lastly Halo 3 is different from the last two but has a feeling of rejoice, conclusion, revision almost. It's a very hard to explain game because the soundtracks are revised Halo CE and 2 OST's. But Halo 3's is definitely a favourite from most people. It's very Epic, very mysterious and very warm. Your just gonna have to listen too it to understand.

The best Halo soundtrack for me is Halo 2’s, absolutely love “Ghosts of Reach” and “High Charity” on Halo 2 vol 1 ST, those two pieces give a pretty good feel of the essence of H2
ODST was such a departure from the norm for regular O’Donnell Halo soundtracks. This soundtrack with the moody jazz and darker ambient atmosphere really drove home the frantic city landscape and the indomitable hopelessness of the situation. It’s incredible.
Love a good lush string arrangement/performance/recording! Love the way different elements get blended together
Deference for Darkness, the best section of all Halo 3 ODST soundtrack, Never Forget and Behold a Pale Horse from Halo 3 (not ODST) too. Some more to add to your collection of recommendations haha.

I fuckin love this soundtrack
this game has a much darker, sadder tone than any other halo game and is a joy to play and listen to the tracks. totally different vibe. The music really hits hard when it kicks in while you walk around an abandoned city, watching where people used to live and prosper, now empty and ruined.
ahhh the halo ASMR soundtrack, also probably my favourite sountrack out of all halo games, although I adored pretty much all of them (117 in halo 4 is a special journey though, Green and blue was really pretty too. If you wanna look at others, well Halo 5's the trials is epic AF and "Never forget" has been in every game in some shape or form too and it's always played on heartstrings)
So good, this is my favorite Halo after Halo Reach, you should definitely do a reaction of Overture from Reach, its one of my favorite OST tracks of all time. Love seeing you react to all my favorite game music, it brings me so much joy.

Odst is easily top 3 halo along with reach and 3. The loneliness you feel is amazing. The game has very good jazzy moody tracks

In ODST you are alone through most of the game.
When Marty was writing this, the words "All alone" were in his mind. The short sax at 0:09 are those words being "translated" into the instrument.

The opening of ODST was something that has stuck with me. All of the music feels so desperate. The opening text of really sets the tone for the rest of the game.

at this point in the storyline, humanity is on the brink of extinction, theyre loosing so badly the covenant have found earth and attacted the city called new mombasa, humanity responded with sending the orbital drop shock troppers (ODST) the mission was a success, one of very few that at this time we actually achieved. My point is the orchestra perfectly captured the sadness of this whole story.
343 somehow made Halo 3: ODST even better on The Master Chief Collection.
Gotta do “warthog run” from this game, it’s one of the definitive tracks from the game.

You should listen to Halo ODST: OST Traffic Jam if you have yet. It's probably the best piece besides the Finale in the soundtrack.
The Halo sound track is amazing. While I never really played the games, ive always been able to recognize the music.
I would like to make a request for a future react video, the soundtrack for Undertale is an amazing piece. It's not done by a full orchestra, and has a bit more of a retro game (like 8-bit sometimes), but is still amazing done entirely by Toby Fox. Its Especially impact full when given context by the game. I would love to hear your reaction to the music.

A game that has a phenomenal soundtrack is Divinity: Original Sin 2... Just listen to Rivellon... so damn good.
Another suggestion is listen to the Pentakill songs from League, specifically Lightbringer (acoustic) is fantastic
