- Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is fighting a tough reelection bid, and she could be the first incumbent Chicago mayor in more than three decades to lose an election. She campaigned as a reformer four years ago, but voters may be ready for a new leader. Lightfoot faces eight other candidates, and the top two vote-getters will move on to a runoff. Most candidates have made crime their top priority. Ben Bradley, investigative reporter for Chicago's WGN-TV, breaks down the race.

Luckily, and as a Chicago resident, polls suggest she won’t even make the runoff.
Also, feel free to take a look at demographic change but all numbers suggest higher-income residents (especially downtown/downtown-adjacent wards) are moving in droves whereas lower-income residents are the ones fleeing the city.
And this checks out - most crime is sequestered to the much poorer south and west sides. All who can move have or are planning to.

Republicans don't make an effort to run candidates in big cities so they can beat the crap out of the Democrats who do run in the press and on conservative media. The last big city with a Republican mayor was what, New York in the 90s (Giuliani)? Jacksonville is the largest US city with a Republican mayor, and while I wouldn't want to live in Chicago, I sure as shit wouldn't want to live in Jacksonville, either. Jacksonville may have a lower murder rate than Chicago, but it's higher than LA, SF, or NYC.
