- Fistfights, swearing and boos from the crowd: A concert by the American psychedelic rock band Brian Jonestown Massacre descended into chaos at Melbourne's Forum Theatre.
Many in the audience grew tired of the gaps - up to three or four minutes - between songs, and the torrent of abuse Frontman Anton Newcombe hurled at the crowd, and left early.

I moved to the Mission District of San Francisco in the early '90s and these guys were my downstairs neighbors for about a year and a half. They got evicted for nearly burning down the entire building because the original guitarist shot up heroin and then passed while leaving a candle burning next to a curtain. They were knuckleheads then and clearly, they still are 30 years later
Yes F theses guys . Mission resident at the same time. Never saw or mingled with them as they had bad reputation.

Nothing new there. I'm surprised Anton, a very hard-living 56 y.o. still has it in him to drink himself under the table then get insanely belligerent on stage the following day. I've been checking the obits since the early 2000s to check he's still kicking. What a f*cking life.

Well to be fair every single album has a completely different lineup, been over 40 members now Anton is the only consistent one. Basically a solo project with a revolving cast of band members

I’ve been a fan of the music for over 24 years, it was absolutely embarrassing and sad watch him treat his band like battered housewives for years.
Funny, people always talk trash on jocks or whatever, but hipsters are the most intolerant, mean and selfish group of people out there, they have literally turned into corporate simps for the industry. 2020 taught us there is no revolution, and there never was a counter culture, it’s all a sham, and regardless of the ability to write good music, it’s easy to see right through Anton, just a cruel, mean and arrogant human. One time Anton would t play in New York until his favorite bartender from another venue delivered him a drink. The problem is that the music is so good in spite of everything. Hard to even understand how good they are

Having seen them play at levitation festival a few years back was a highlight. Unpredictable though. Hey I saw Dylan a few times and the last one was a dud but mark knopler saved it. Levitation and that new era of psych rock or neo psych rock is my favorite genre ATM and BJTM are no doubt a great band with a certain droney stoney sound that I love. The records have always stood out.anemone is one of the greatest tracks of all time. Certainly derivative though but of themselves at this point they have been around so long. Full time employment of a tambourine player is objectively obnoxious. Still.They embody the lower east side undoubtedly.

It’s like the 1990’s for BJM all over again. I’ve seen them three times in a Pennsylvania when Anton was doing well and the shows were great. At least Anton didn’t kick an audience member in the head this time. I hope he gets some help soon.
