      ​@@APPLE1TO1 I beg you, make a video for excel users. There is nothing intuitive about numbers to me. Every tutorial I have watched goes at a snails pace like it's for kids. No one talks about how the features are organized and where to find basic functions.

    Also in Personal Budget I want to enter deposits for each category and payment for each category. For example I deposit $75 each week for car payment then at the end of the month I can see that I have the $300 for my payment and then make payment and enter it showing $0 in that category to start the new month.

    Great video. Question... If I want to use the Personal Budget for more than one month, how do I filter the Budget sheet so that it is only fed transactions for the month I want? I can filter the
    Transactions sheet, but it doesn't seem to carry over to the Budget sheet. I'd rather not have separate files for each month as expenses fluctuate and I'd like to be able to look at different durations. Thanks.

      The best option is creating a different sheet within the same file. Just create the first one. Then duplicate the sheet for the next month.

    Help Needed - Personal Budget Template : In Budget Tab - Want to edit categories (changed name & added few more categories)But in Transaction Tabs - How I can make sure that same "Category List" pops up for selection when making an entry and also it gets captured under correct "Summary by Category" back on Budget Tab ?       Shyman, thanks for the question. 1. to add or delete a category: * Click on the Transactions tab. * click on a single category, i.e. food, * click on the format icon in the upper right of the spreadsheet (paintbrush), * select the "cell" tab, make sure the data format is Pop-Up Menu. From here you can select and item and double click to change the name or click on the "-" minus sign to delete or the "+" plus sign to add.
      The spreadsheet (all tabs) should be using the same pop-up menu and it will be reflected in all subsequent tabs.
      Now here let me note that if you DELETE a category you need to make sure that any transactions that may have had that old category are either removed or updated to a new category name.
      to ensure that any new or changed categories appear in the summary you need to make sure that the "SUMIF" formula in column "C" of the summary is correct. SUMIF(Transactions::Transactions::Category,A2,Transactions::Transactions::$Amount) Once this is copied correctly all should be reflected.
      I hope this answers your question. I know there is a lot here but i have tried to put it in an orderly fashion.

      * Go to the transaction tab and add the new category - to the pop-up menu
      Click on the category item
      go to the “cell” in the format section on the right hand side of the template
      under data format make sure “pop-up Menu” is selected
      click on the + sign and type in the new category name
      add a blank line on the transaction table
      key in the date, description, select the new category from the pop-up menu, enter the amount
      * Go to the Budget tab
      add a new row in the Summary by Category table
      in the category column key in the new item you added in the pop-up menu on the transaction table.
      move to the budget column and add a budget amount
      the formula in the actual and difference column should have replicated
      after keying the budget amount make sure the calculated number are correct
      * Go to the Actual Summary graph
      click on the legend below the graph
      click on edit data references
      you should see a area in the Summary by Category table with colored dots to the left of each category
      the new category you added will not be in the list until you click on it. when you do it will assign a color and add
      it to the graphs above. Bothe the Actual Summer and Budget vs. Actual
      Click on done in the lower right hand corner.

    How do we use Numbers as an expense tracking software where you can enter your expenses as they occur each day/week and get totals for the month and totals for the year?

    Very helpful, thank you! How can you incorporate debt that is carried over? Say you have a credit card debt of 5,000, where would that go, if you were planning on only paying off 3,000? I don't see anywhere to add income to the Monthly Budget, it tracks spending, but doesn't include income? Am I missing something?

      Lisa, thanks for the comment. I would add a catagory form Credit Card using the total debt as the budget . You will need to edit your reference to reflect the new catagory and row. Hope this helps

    Is there a way to add a second money out section to help me organize bills that get paid from different accounts. So the line items would be summed up separately from the first “money out” but then get the two “money out” boxes to also output a total sum. So I can have two lists that add together individually then the sum from those two lists add together at the end. Currently I’m using a whole different simple budget page.

      The best option for that is to create a table on your own, and then you can make a chart out of that table. But you want to do that first we likely will create a video doing that.

    Is there a way to copy each of the Budget and Transaction Sheets to have one pair for each month of the year, so that I can have them all in the one document?

      Hey James, you can copy each sheet and Rename them to include the month. If you are using an iPad just tap on the sheet name and you will activate a menu where you can choose “duplicate” and the system will assign it the same name with a number. If your on Mac just hilight the tab click on the down arrow and select duplicate. Thanks for the question.

      LK, I’m assuming your using the personal budget worksheet. If you look at the formula under the actual column, you’ll see it is a SUMIF. So what you need to do in let’s say the pair that represents FEB in the Summary by Category table tap on the actual amount for auto. In the formula after SUMIF tap on transaction::transaction::category. This should hilight the field. Now tap on the Feb Transaction sheet. Tap on the column letter for category. In the sample it is col C. The next field A1, 2,3 etc represents the category you want to match. No change should be necessary. Now, tap on the next field Transaction::Transaction::Amount. Tap on the Feb transaction sheet tap on column d. click on the green check mark in the formula edit bar(right hand side) your Feb amount should appear in the Budget sheet. Once this is working for one cell just copy and paste to the remaining cells.

    In the first budget sheet, how can I add a "subsection" ? for example; under "streaming - can I add a row/clum under saying Netflix $20, Hulu 15, and list them out so I can see exactly what is costing how much under that section? Hope that makes sense lol

      The first one you cannot add a sub-section. It would be a new row you have to create for each one. Once you add the new row, you need to add it to the formula so it calculates it if it doesn’t automatically. I recommend copying and pasting the to the row below once it’s made.

      You are correct. It turns out you are going to have some colors that are the same. If you click on the chart in the format tab, you will see chart colors you can change the colors around but you are gonna have some colors that are the same.

      Type it in once and use the yellow circle and you can drag it. If it’s to a different table use the = formula and select the first time you entered it in the different table. We have many video that discuss this in our beginner videos.

    This was a good start but I'm struggling to get the pre-made personal budget template working together on both sheets. I added several categories which made more sense for my family to the transaction page under the pop-up menu. However, I cannot get those same categories to populate with the associated information on the budget sheet. Can anyone help me get these 2 sheets to work together? This is my 1st time using numbers.

      Janet,
      On the particular template you are using the pop up menu should be updated in the Trasaction sheet. That is where you would add any new categories to the list. At that point i would key in one or two new transactions selecting the new category and an amount.
      Next go to the Summary by Category table. In Column A (Category) I would click on the row number and add a row below (body row) you should type in the name of the new category and the budget amount.
      What is important here is that it must be an EXACT MATCH to the category in the transactions sheet. For example i added a category called Test and it was not working when i check the pop up menu i had a space in front of the word Test. So, just be aware of this.
      Next after you add the row go to the actual column (it should be $0.00) double click on it to show the formula. notice that it is a SUMIF (Transactons::Category, A##, $Amount). You may know what this formula is doing but just in case I’ll review it.
      It is matching the category you typed in the Summary by Category sheet column A whatever row number it is (EXACT MATCH) to the Transactions sheet and using the $Amount (this is preserving the column “D” ) from the Transactions sheet.
      Finally, the Difference column should calculate as B##- C##.
      ## is for whatever row number you are using.
      I know this is rather long and i apologize if you are aware of some of what is stated above but i’d rater have more info than less.

      If you create a new table, there isn't away to reference the material to the other. Copy and paste also goes a long way.

      Hey Addie, thanks for the ? So, start by tapping on the chart, select edit series, select expense (transportation etc), fill, color, pick whatever you desire. Your changes will appear in the chart and ledgend. Hope this helps

    Is there a way to create a template with your own categories and budget items for use with each month? I want to save a template with my own categories and pop up menus, open it up on the first of the month and create a separate file for that month's budget, then do the same thing the following month. I've been at this for a few hours now and the doc won't save the template alterations I've made to categories and pop ups menu.

      Once you make a template, you cannot alter that template. I recommend that you just create a brand new template with the changes you made.

      Yes. There is a paint brush tool you use. Brings up Table, Cell, Format, Arrange. Under Format, pop-up menu is an option.

      Tama, thanks for the question. First go to the transaction sheet, click on a blank category cell, tap in the format icon (brush) a menu should appear, make sure you are on the format tab and pop up menu is checked, next click on the i and you can add, delete and rearrange the items from here.     I cannot find make the chart editable.I have one saved as 1st half of month, and one as 2nd half of month. When I retrieve that, it does not allow me to click the cells to edit any of them. It is not locked, as I've made sure. I can type in the large space at the top of the page, but I can't do anything within the cells.

      So you would click in the box and in the pop up menu we add another category. Some of our other numbers videos go over how to add pop-up menus.

      You need to add the formula to connect it. It would be easier to see the content

      The you click the table of the category, they have colors and you can change them in the inspector or format bar

      The best option is to add a ruler to your document. The only reason you need a Center it is if you’re gonna be printing something

      Yes when I print from numbers my charts are not centered on the page printed. Don't know how to do it. Can you please send a link to your video. @@APPLE1TO1

      Yes if you right/secondary click you can add a new row, but you will need to set that up.
