- Imperial Guard, the Hammer of the Emperor is humanity's greatest army that serves the Imperium of Man.
The proud men and women among the soldiers of this army are armed only with the most basic equipment because arming billions upon billions of guardsmen would not be possible in the cause of events in the 41st Millenium.
And despite facing terrifying Xenos, vile heretics and anyone that wishes to threaten the Imperium - these men and women withstand all the horrors from the galaxy with the power of their numbers, courage and loyalty being taught from the earliest of years.
And although the sacrifices are huge in the ranks of the Imperial Guard - it is a proud army devoted to its one and only task...

The spacemarine would be nothing without the sheer numbers of the guardsmen.

Absolutely. Also, although there are some mediocre regiments there are some very high quality guard regiments, like the Vostroyan Firstborn, the Steel Legion, the Valhallan Ice Warriors, The Catachan Devils, and, of course, the Cadians. These are all cornerstone regiments in the imperial military forces as a whole.
The catachan devils are surely as good as a space marine scout/space marine trainee.

So, this is it. My final hour has come. It won't be glorious, it won't be majestic. I won't go down winning a war but down in the mud with nothing of the screams of my fellow soldiers to guide me into His light. But you know what...I don't care. I don't need remembrance, I don't need my name inscribed on some warship. I don't seek a glorious death like the space marines. My death will be one of the many, just a number on an endless list.

I don't know why, but hearing this feels me with immense patriotism for simply being human. We might not be as strong as an Ork, as fast as an Eldar, as progressive as the Tau, as adaptable as the Tyranids or resilient like the Necrons, but what does humanity have that those species do not? The God-Emperor of Mankind, and quadrillions of humans ready to die in the name of the best species to grace the cosmos...HUMANITY!

You know what is even better than that? Humans can become strong as orks, hella fast, if not as fast as an Eldar, the Tau have nothing on DAoT humanity, which wasn't uplifted by the Eldar and far surpassed the Tau's tech level, we may not be as adaptable as the nids, but we're second only to them. We learned our lesson about soulless sentience through the Men of Iron, and we created our diety ~4000 years after we discovered AGRICULTURE. The Eldar, being the only other race who actually made their Gods, needed to get help. We may naturally only possess our incredibly stubbornness and resilience, but hot damn, can we do cool shit.
Loss is acceptable. Failure is not.

Makes me so proud to be a commander of an Imperial Guard army
i love how this video technically tells the story of a guardsman.
Starts with a series of propaganda the young man sees, dreaming of glory and victory with patriotic music playing from old vox casters.
Music becomes real with voice singing, symbolizing his recruitment where he sees his commander give a mighty speech, the young man's dream coming true.
The video continues with the music growing in power and intensity, showing the guardsman's growth into a veteran, seeing many battles, horrors, as well the various regiments and allies he fights alongside.
Propaganda interrupts ever now and again, showing how veteran guardsman, now an NCO, don't see them with rose-tinted glasses anymore but still reminds him of what he fights for.
Then the second to final pic, him charging an Ork, shows how he found the glory he had always dreamed of, sacrificing his life for the Emperor, Imperium, and his fellow guardsman. The last picture, the recruitment poster, shows him made a martyr and propaganda piece, becoming an inspiration for other young recruits to dream of glory and victory as he once had.
That's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. There's few things more noble than to lay down one's life for a good cause.

Guardsman don't lik the typical commissar who shoots you for have a misprint in your imperial uplifting primer. Men like Cipahas, Gaunt and Yarrick are where true inspiration and faith in the Emperor lies, everyone would follow these men into death.
One does not become a great commander through fear but through love and respect.

+Antonio Chekini The Commissars of the Death Korps don't do that. They're used as political figures to negotiate with the other companies or generals they work with. If a Commissar does that to the DKoK, then they're failing to realize the usefulness of the Korps.

Fairly certain they do do what Antonio said, but only when suicidal charges are a bad idea, and will not accomplish anything. The Korps have a habit of suicidally charging when not appropriate.

When ever i watch something like this, it makes me feel that the guard are the most powerful army on the tabletop, why? I dont know why, just to see all those dice roll and demolish a squad of 10 termies with abaddon is funny. Just to watch a lucky dice roll destroy a land raider in the first turn. Having huge amounts of expendable soldiers with so much fire power is fun. I can assure you atleast 50% of all guard players (if not 40k players in general) can agree, guard is a great, powerful army to play.
I decided to play with IG because of this little exscript from the previous codex.

I remember I facerolled IG every time with Space Marines but that’s 15 years ago.
GreySeer Thanquol As it stands, the IG is the second most powerful unified force in 40K fluff. The orks are more numerous than humans thats true, but humans are the third most numerous in the universe as we know it (after the tyrannids and the orks), that is to say there are litterally quintillions uppon quintillions of humans in the Imperium. Out of this massive population, the IG get a massive recruitment pools. At all times there a litterally quadrillions of guardsmens deployed and quadrillions more in training to replace the losses, and each day there are trillions of losses in the IG.
The Ig is by far the largest faction in fluff that is united, apart from the tyrannids (and then again the tyrannids fight amongst eachothers sometimes), thousands times larger than any current Waaaaaagh.
Do you know what is the most powerful faction for now in fluff? Not the nids, not the space marines..
but the Imperial Navy. An average IOM frigate is a kilometer long huge box of metal with incredibly thick and resistant hull with overlapping void shields capable of sending out terraton of firepower in a minute notice and easily shrugging off terraton level firepower.
Thats just the frigate. And each warship of the imperium that is larger than a cruiser can destroy an entire planet in a matter of seconds if needed.
And there are millions of warships in the navy.
Think about that.

I never used to like the Guard, 20 years ago. At 35 I really like how they represent the common man in a grim-dark future, even if it is very... erm.. grim-dark :)

I always found the Imperial Guard poetic... I mean, look at them. Take a Guardsmen, just one guardsmen, he is fucking weak ! Anything can kill him ! He is scared, and will run away for ANY reason ! But, be scared xenos and heretics alike, because he ISN'T ALONE ! United we are strong, and if one Guardsmen, alone, cannot do anything, his regiment united, perfectly used, can stand down the best troops of the universe ! FEAR US, WARRIORS OF THE WORLD ! WE ARE THE IMPERIAL GUARD !
This tribute is the best i've seen so far, and i use all my nights to search for glorious tributes. I will use it to inspire my players on my only war rpg gaming, just before battle!

Lol I know, this vid kinda reminded me of the old Soviet Propaganda during the cold wars as well as Nazi Germany, a little bit of US Propaganda thrown in as well, which it should be because the Imperial Guard is sort of a combination of all those Army. hahaha like it.

then my alt timeline where the Emperor is a Stand-user, the Stardust Imperium would have more soldiers than the Cult's Imperium has ammo.

@@SlashinatorZ well some things from imperium's history are simmilar to Soviet union and Russia. Lenin as the Emperor, Soviet are the Emperor's reign with development of science and industry, no religion. And modern Russia with religious dictatorship (Putin supports church very much) Modern Russia is powerful because soviets made a good army, as same as the Emperor. And also i saw some priests done holy rituals on tanks in one video, just like Adeptus Mechanicus.
