    Thanks for the tip. I did not know that monofilament line can absorb water.

    Hi fellows. The rreason for this is that when the line is produced, it is spooled while it is not fully hardened. that causes that the line will take the form of the spool, and thereford will get the coil shape. By warming it up in hot water and then spool it on the reel slowly so it cools down will remove this "factory memory" . I always do this when i spool on shooting lines on my fly reels.

    My pops told me to soak my line on the reel but he couldn’t tell me why 😂 Great info man thanks

    It works 👍 you can also stretch your line and that helps too

      I used to stretch Andie but it takes awhile starting with hooking it to a tree, letting it out (at least 100 yards or so ) , reeling it back up and that is if you have enough room to do that :P It's easier to drop it in the sink the night before a fishing trip or before heading out. I know im lazy lol.

    Better than the stretching method!

    When you put 30 lb test on a spinning reel the memory is apparent and very hard to manage

    • @SJBassin
      @SJBassin  3 роки тому +4

      Which is why I don't put 30lb on spinning reels. If you need that kind of test go to braid instead. That is where I would use braid. I do that now with my heavy spinning setups (only 20 lb tho) anyways not sure what you're fishing for but good luck

      @@SJBassin it was a silly experiment . That kind of line ix probably for a bait caster reel.I had braid before but found that diameter of 10 lb test a bit small and it scuffed teflon and on occasion actually wound around the spool release button...weird. But it performed well otherwise. I caught a lit of bass. Next time I will use 30 lb test (8 pound mono equivalent diameter. I am in Montreal and it is Musky season !

    I prefer to soak it in steaming hot tap water for a while on the spool it comes on to keep my reel from degrading

    Going to be in the 90's today where I am. I'm sure the temp inside will be in the 100's. Can I just leave my reel in the car and get the same effect?

    • @SJBassin
      @SJBassin  3 роки тому

      No because the sunlight breaks down mono.

    Might wanna take out the drag washers first!

    • @SJBassin
      @SJBassin  2 роки тому +2

      Drag washers are usually fine afterwards. You allow it to drip dry and they aren't being left sitting in the water. Also carbon fiber is pretty waterproof

      @@SJBassin Yeah they’d probably be fine but my OCD MAN, I’m just one to take em out. 😂 carbon fiber are awesome.

    Nice but the water will rust up all the metal over time

      Um your reel is designed to work in a wet environment. Do you really think fresh water bath for 15 minutes is gonna change that? Lol seriously?
