Harper is a very young pregnant guinea pig that we rescued a month ago or so. She is very pregnant and seems to have lost control of her back legs right before the birth of her babies and she is HUGE. Extremely concerning because what if she cannot deliver those babies?

OMG, they're huge babies! I can't believe she managed to deliver them naturally. I hope she's able to walk properly again soon. It's very sad that she lost one baby, but very good the other 2 lived and seem healthy. They're of course very cute
Amanda Harker thx for the spoiler ☹️😠😔😞
colleen Lynn don’t look at the comments before watching the whole video
@@colleenlynn2874 the "spoiler" is the literal DEATH of one of the baby? Tell me that you are not really serious ?
@@colleenlynn2874 Hey, if you didn't want to know what happened, why did you look in the comments then? geeez.
I got my 2 guinea pigs from someone in town when their piggies had babies. Only 3mo old and Latte, the female, was freshly preggers. Poor thing was as big as this girl. She only had 2 baby boys. One was small, Coffee, and the other was a BIG boy, Bean. Still not sure how she pushed them out. They will be a year old in July. Bean is now a size larger than his mom. BIG boy.
*read comments. Ok, the babies are huge*
* SEES babies* "damn, those babies are HUGE!" Super cute though!
Right lol 😂 I saw the comments and I was like ok there probably normal size cuz everyone probably being dramatic then I see the babies and I’m like damnnnnn they are huge
No wonder Harper didn’t want to eat. She was full of babies!
Lol true
she would get too *chonky*
Pregnancy for guinea pigs make them eat more 🙄
@@angelbuilds8763 that’s true for any pregnancy. And it was a joke, cry about it.
@@angelbuilds8763 weird animals
My rescued baby piggy was in the same situation. I think she was 4-5 weeks when she got pregnant. I helped her during delivery, because she was exhausted and couldn’t push. Her babies 1) 80g, 2) 92g- it took the longest to push out #2, 3) 118g. She regained the movement in her back legs 2 weeks after delivery. The babies are now over 3 weeks and I still give her some critical care with electrolytes because she is very skinny, small and doesn’t drink much. Lots of kale for calcium and vit C.
Anna s how did you help her during her delivery?
Hey my guinea pig also got pregnant around 4-5 weeks 😓.....just wanted to ask how we can help our guinea ..
How’d you help?
Unfortunately your interference likely caused the issues with "pushing"- Pushing is not natural, normal, nor necessary. The uterine fundus does all the "pushing" necessary, without maternal force. The problem is that when labor is hindered or disturbed (like by human interference), biochemistry is negatively altered and the fundus will not be allowed to reach it's thickest point and "eject" the babies (the fetal ejection reflex)
@annas3025, I know this is an older video, but I want to thank you for your reply. I adopted my Abbey from a shelter at 3 months. After a few weeks I noticed her hopping, holding her back right foot up. I thought she had broken her leg or something. Took her to the Vet and an xray showed 2 very big babies that were due any day! Babies arrived safely 3 days later. All 3 are doing well, except Abbey is still hopping. We're at 4 days post partum today, but you have given me hope that her walking will return to normal in time. Hope your piggies are doing well.
The babies were probably on the nerves that enable her to walk. Poor girl!
I agree! I'm a labor and delivery nurse and we see this quite often in woman with a baby on her sciatic nerve or pressing up on the pubic symphysis. Usually with time the legs heal. We sometimes use anti- inflammatory medicine for swelling and to heal that inflamed nerve. But I dont know if you can use any inflamatories on piggies!
So glad little Harper had two gorgeous babies! 30 years ago and I bought' a guinea pig and she was 6-and-a-half weeks old and tiny! I carefully kept her away from my males. After a while, I noticed she was a slightly 'bulbous' shape and was wondering whether to take her to the vet - and then one morning, I went to give my pigs their breakfast and a little white face looked out of the hatch at me. I thought:- ''Who's that ? I haven't got a white guinea pig!'' and then I realised that Popsicle (black and tan) had had a baby! He was quite a big baby and she was small so when he was feeding from her, she could not put her feet on the ground! We kept 'Baby' and he lived until nearly five. So Popsicle must have been pregnant from the pet shop, at about month old!
Thank you for liking my comment!
I remember a petshop as a kid where they the hamsters just kept breeding because they didn't properly separate mal and females. I wonder if someone brought a hamster home only to get a sudden litter of babies.
Gosh that's alarmingly young but I am so glad that both her and the baby were healthy and happy :)
@@jades6508Goofs Thank you,Pink Flower
@@debbiebrett6689 your welcome, guinea pigs are such a blessing to have in this world :)
They're adorable and one of mine is 63 days pregnant so any day now she will give birth. She is just under a year old
Poor baby. This is why people should be better educated about this!
Edit: THOSE BABIES WERE HUGE????????????????
??? educated about what??
@@snoesje4u255 well. Maybe about what age is an appropriate age to breed animals or maybe the dangers or putting a Male in with a female and what complications can arise from that ???
Rizza Ruu there isn’t a age limit really... they start mating quick. They are like rabbits. But this baby girl you can tell was under weight in the first place. Which makes it hard for them to carry. But after 3 weeks of being born they mate 😂 I think it cause they usually live 4 years to 6years... my vet was shocked by my 8 year pig 😫 I miss his fat ass.
The only reason I know it’s cause of her weight and not the age was that’s why I wouldn’t breed my female. She was underweight no matter what she ate. She wouldn’t even finish a whole bowl of food unlike my male and he was big. I didn’t want his fat genes to get to the kids and it’ll hurt her. So I just couldn’t. Just cause I love her.
Spay & neuter all your pets. I had my pig fixed for $60.00
I can’t believe how the babies come out with all of their hair and eyes are open and how mobile they are right away.
That's how all guinea pig babies are born just FYI. These were just a little bigger than normal, but they're born immediately fully independent and can even eat solids right away.
Here’s hoping Harper gets well soon. So sorry about the third baby but the other two do look healthy and very big. Many thanks to all of you for making sure Harper gets the best care and is well taken care of. ❤️
She is so cute! Love how she looked up when the gal said veggies and hay. She's like, "did someone say veggies and hay?"
The teenager had teenagers 😳
Correct
Poor baby..
Lmao
I Cannot Believe They Are Born With Eyes Open And Extremely Active!! Blown Away!!!
Saskia even with so many guineas you still care so deeply for each one! I could hear genuine concern in your voice. It’s amazing the work you do! You gave Harper the very best care to help her prepare for delivery. Those babies were huge! I hope Harper has recovered and improving. She had to be so uncomfortable with those three in her little body! Kudos to you and your team!! ❤️
Im holding my breath for her
Her muscles may have atrophied after being so constricted with the large babies. It might help to do some range of motion physical therapy by just rotating her leg as if she were walking to get the muscles moving again.
Oh heck...the poor little thing. Amazing that she was able to deliver them without assistance...and that 2 survived. I hope she pulls through okay and regains her mobility.
Guinea Pigs are so sweet. They let you wash them, trim their nails etc. Very kind little creatures💕
My youngest guinea pig is as old as she is, could never imagine that she is having babies right now! I once had a pregnant girl, she was 1 year old and gave birth to one (!!) big baby that was nearly her own size, that was hard enough!!!! Thank you all for your support for all these sweet little piggies❤
I cannot believe those are day 1 babies. Those are some huge babies
Holy CRAP they're HUGE!
She’s a baby herself!! 🙏❤️
Has Harper started walking a bit more? I was thinking all those big babies must have been putting a lot of pressure on her spine and hips making it very painful and uncomfortable to walk. I hope she gets her.mobility back and it wasn't permanent. Babies were adorable!
mszoomy that’s what I was thinking
Yea, because some people when they are having a couple babies might be a little uncomfortable to walk
Holy moly those babies are huge! I never would’ve guessed those babies would’ve come out of that small mama! And to know there was a third one in there as well! My goodness! No wonder she couldn’t walk! You guys are amazing in these guinea pigs are lucky to have you!
Well done Harper, your babies are huge! I hope you can start walking properly soon Sweeti xx 💕🐹💕🐹💕🐹💕 always so sad when you lose one xx RIP baby xx 💔💔💔
My guinea pig went through the same thing first baby was a stillnborn seems like she tried helping him cause his Paw had an ouch and she could not give birth to the other two so she needed a c section but since it was on a Saturday night the vet wasn't available til today
When I bought my guinea pig from the pet store, I didn't know she was pregnant. She had six babies and 2 didn't make it.
So sorry to hear that. Hope your little piggies are doing well though.
Pet stores are so irresponsible. I think they want you to give the babies back to them so they get a "free product." So sorry you lost two.
Sometimes they sex pigs incorrectly and then they put boys and girls together accidentally.
@@PianoDisneygal10 Yup, that happened to my friend's hamster. She had an accidental litter so I adopted one of them. He's one of the sweetest boys but I have to constantly be watching him (we don't know if he inherited bad genes or not)
@@laurabecker2442 guinea pigs are literally the least concern for a pet store
i hope harper feels better and so her and her babies are safe
Dang the babies are almost big as their mom!
Sorry you lost one of the babies. Hope Harper is on her way to a full recovery. Sweet big babies!
I hope they'll survive and live happily amongst the older piggies.
I mean, seeing how pregnant she is, I’m not surprised that she can’t walk properly, and my best guess before she went to the vet, was because she’s so small and she’s super pregnant, so adding that onto, I would image it’s probably because there’s too much weight, and pressure. The body doesn’t know how to handle the weight. And I mean, holy crap, look how big those babies are. It makes sense that she was having an hard time moving, but This is and can be very worrying. But I’m glad she’s okay. But I can’t image the pain she was in. She’s such a strong one ❤️
On a bright note, those babies are adorable and I’m very glad atleast two of them survive.
I've had Undine, a 2.5 months old unintentionally pregnant guinea pig, and thanks Heaven all went perfectly well! I love them so much ... now Harper, prior and during her vet visit looks well awake and not (yet) in a possible state of distress due to the possible inability of birthing her babies. WOW their size! they look like they're already two or more weeks old!
By experience: observe them very closely at the end of their pregnancy, make sure regularly the babies are moving - if necessary stimulate them in her belly to see if they are responding, and if for example you are noticing Mom-to-be eating less, looking distressed, preoccupied by herself more than by her surroundings, and especially drooling on the sides of their mouth, then it is extremely urgent to act immediately and get the babies out. Thank you for sharing
Great advice. My piggie is about to give birth any day now and she is huge. She is about 3 months old. Im worried her babies will be too big to birth.
Awwww poor baby girl...she seems to be sooo tiny and in pain 😢💔 sooooo sad she lost a baby...but the most important is that she managed to deliver her babies safely ❤
I worked in the pet dept at K-Mart many years ago and we got in a male guinea pig that couldn't use his back legs. I took him home and started giving him cod liver oil for a vitamin D supplement. Within a few days, he was able to start using his back legs again. It was cage paralyze and he didn't have that problem again after getting in a bigger size cage and having those drops for the first few days of getting him home.
my female guinea pig is also around 3-4 months old, and just gave birth a few days ago. thankfully, it was just 1 pup, and quite small too, although it seemed like it was an early birth. but dang are we fortunate that it was just 1 small pup, and that now both mother and daughter are fine.
I rescued two pigs (I have a herd of piggies) about 2 months ago and I found out that they were both pregnant a few weeks ago. The pigs are around 4 months old now but unfortunately I woke up and one had a miscarriage in the night I was so sad, but thankfully the Guinea pig is ok. The other one is ok so far and she may give birth today or tomorrow as she is almost 2cm. I hope her birth goes okay, we are expecting 2-3 babies
I just rescued two young sows that the owner had with a male. I think they are around eight months old. I fear for them as they had lice and are very thin. I took them to the vet and they were treated with Revolution. I’m feeding them lots. Giving them liquid vitamin C also.
How could such a tiny mother give birth to those little big potatoes? Hope she will be better soon. Thank you for this vid Saskia.
Millie Ruff thank you I am they are eating Brown’s piggie food
@Millie Ruff Guinea pigs shouldn't have nuts or seeds. It is best to feed them a good diet of mostly quality timothy hay, with some high-quality pellets (such as Sherwood or oxbow pellets), and a handful of veggies high in vitamin C. Red bell pepper, red/green leaf lettuce, cucumber, and raddichio are some of the many good choices :)

Bless y'alls hearts! Thank you for all y'all do for them.
She is such a sweet piggie.❤
So glad that went ok for her! My girl had 5 babies at 14 weeks. 4 lived and so did mama (thank God!) one died moments after birth! God bless!
Sweet baby, quietly wheeking for you to pet her and then nuzzling your hand.
Oh those babies are sooo sweet. Good job Harper girl!
Poor young mom of triplets! I think we all would have felt exactly like her after seeing the size of those babies
My guinea pig had her babies and it was such a difference in size I was shocked! 😯 🤰👼🤷♀️
No wonder she couldn’t walk!! My goodness! Good job Harper💕
Harper is such a good girl! Very patient in the vets office.
They are the biggest babies I have ever seen OMG
Thank you for these videos. They are very informative and helpful. I have learned and continue to learn so much! I am glad Harper had her babies, but sad one could not make it. They are huge!!! My goodness, so adorable!
I'm so happy Mum and cups are well, at least 2 of them made it.
Poor mama get well soon, a loss of one baby is heartbreaking , but I am glad the other are healthy!!!!!! 💜💜
Aww young mama got the freshest babies. Adorable
Future absolute units. Congratulations to Mom Harper.
Ursula … you are so very beautiful with the piggies !! xx
No wonder she couldn’t walk!!! She’ll be up and around soon, what giant babies❤️❤️❤️
I wish I wasn't so allergic to them. I had a male & female and had only let them out once together....I know, I know it only takes one time...she did end up pregnant and had 2 healthy babies. The thing that I found most fascinating is that they are born with a full set of teeth and world "chitter" while still inside her. When they rub their teeth together real fast...I've always called it chittering. They are so amazing.
Her legs and feet were working fine. It's the ginormous stomach dragging on the ground that was giving her trouble. If you look closely you can see she was moving her feet and legs so there was still mobility.
So glad she made it and her two babies are adorable. Sad about the one but the main thing is she is ok.
I rescued a male piggy who was on deaths door, after the first day of getting him stable (he hadn't been able to move to get to water or food) he moved very similar to this little girl and his back legs couldn't move. I spent a week pretty much glued to him as he couldn't really get around. He was on vit c and calcium as an extra alongside his veggies, hay and pellets. After that intense first week he was able to walk on his own, he was a sweet boy who bonded very strongly to me because I think he understood that I wanted to help him. He also snapped off all four front teeth due to them being so weak, he still ate solids which I didn't expect, however it horrified my mother as the top two fell out as she was looking at his mouth (He seemed to find it comical as he would often try to touch her with his teeth after that) He was sadly a satin, which was believed to be partly why he was so ill when I rescued him combined with the abuse/neglected he had received at his former "home". He was very young when I rescued him, about two months old, and lived a good life up to his passing at the age of three years old from issues connected to the satin gene. I still rescue piggies if any in my area are needing help, including rescuing another satin which I'd said I couldn't do again because of the hurt but I did it anyway as in the end it wasn't about me, it was about a piggy who needed help from someone who understood.
They are so beautiful. Momma is a sweetheart
Goodness, Harper may as well have given birth to toddlers! Those are some big babies! So cute and swift ❤️
Thank you for being a good rescue 👍
Awww! They are so cute! I had no idea guinea pugs had such big babies! I love your channel by the way! I believe in what y'all do and I think it's a great thing! We need more people in the world like y'all! My daughter and I have 2 guinea pigs and we love them dearly. 💕💖💞
Its guinea pigs not pugs
god damn those babies are like half as big as she is!!! honestly seeing such a baby-faced piggy so heavily preggers stressed me out
Sunteeth the Genderpunk I felt the same. But it’s good that she’s doing okay.
Wow! The babies have hair and everything!!!
My gosh, those are some plump little munchkins.
Oh my goodness!!
Poor mama, those are such big babies, and cute!!!

Congratulations Harper! And Merry Christmas!
Saw comments about the babies...
Holy moley those are some BIG babies!!!
Maybe there's a problem with her pelvis Saskia and I think getting her to the vet would be a good idea, I hope Harper will be ok and fighting fit after her visit to the vet, all the best from Jill in Scotland x
The babies are massive and so cute, I'm sorry to hear that she lost one too, so I offer my condolences x
Oh my gosh! That's exactly how my Guinea pig looks right now except she can walk okay although she does like to lay down a lot. I think she's almost ready to have her babies! She's almost 8 months old so she's super young too
Aweeeeee well done Harper,
Congrats Harper!!!
Shes so cuteeee
I met Fyre (17:25) when I went to the rescue last July. She had a hole in her forehead from being attacked by another pig at her previous owner.
They are so adorable 😍
Poor mama! I hope she feeling better soon🐹💜
Hope she is able to walk correctly. She had quite the ordeal with such huge babies. Guinea pigs are the best mothers.
She did well and cleaned them off as well.
Pretty sure the humans had to do the majority of that lol
Im so sad for the 3rd baby 😢😢😢 when our adopted piggie was close to term i got so scared for her and her babies since the mortality rate is so high, it kept me up at night. I can only imagine what it’s like having that hang over you every day because of the sheer number of pregnant piggies you all handle.
How much did the 2 big babies weigh? Our heaviest of 4 was 102g which isn’t that unusual.
Alot of times, the 3rd baby is still born when a mother is in destress or something else going on with her.
Poor little sweet heart
It’s actually more common now that there back legs go, they are normal after a few days
Those babies are huge😀
So cute
wow! those babies are HUGE.
Theyre soo cute!
I'm s sorry for the baby who didnt make it! I ALWAYS cry when something precious to me dies :( I also hope Harper is ok, she is very cute and small. about those babies, im not goig to say they are huge bc all the ppl said it so isnt it obvious? they look adorable and im happy at least that those 2 survived. Bless the unsurvived baby with all my heart. Thank you Saskia, and all of your team! from Ayala:)
After Mom had the babies, did you feed her critical care or feed her something else to help her after a difficult birth? When Females are having their babies, do the babies present head first or breech or doesn’t it matter? Do you put a drop of betadine iodine on the babies umbilical cord? I’m assuming there is a cord. I meant the end of the umbilical close to the body. Sorry for all the questions. I have males, there will be no breeding here. Thank you Saskia 😇🥰💕🐹💗
No wonder she was having trouble walking! Those babies were huge!
THEY ARE SO ADORABLE SOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE AND WONDERFUL AND THATS GODS CREATION
Lovin the guineas love love love loooove make more.
always love your videos
How early can they be spayed/neureted?
I bought 2 guinea pigs from petco in 2009 once because I really liked one of them (Cookie). And they have to have a friend so I got a littermate from petco as well (Abby). I had no idea Cookie was pregnant, and they were very young sows, around 2-3 months. Cookie grew faster than Abby, and I just assumed it was normal. One day I woke up and went to the cage that was in the living room, and there was blood everywhere. The girls were covered in blood. Cookie had her baby, and they ate it together. Horrified I cleaned them up and cleaned the cage, and loved them both well into 7 years old. But I have learned to never buy a guinea pig from a pet store again.
OMG
Harper is a cute guinea pig mom
My goodness those are some big little babies
Do pigs get diabetes? If she was that may account for the huge babies.
The intro to the video had me cracking up lol she was just hanging out stuck in the entry way of her house
Those are HUGE for newborns. I actually lost one of my females that came to me pregnant early on in my piggie keeping tenure because she had a stillborn and having it in her before passing it out when the others were born caused an infection.... which of course she hid until it was literally too late. My practice after that heartbreak was any pregnant females I acquired were vetted 2 to 3 days after birth so Doc could check for any signs of infections developing that I would have missed.
Those babies are huge!! Poor mama pushing them out must have been hard, not to mention painful! Sad that one didn’t make it but it happens unfortunately…no wonder she was having trouble with those 3 enormous babies in her!
Saskia, i adopted a baby sow and boar, before I knew the sex, do you recommend neutering your boars?
Precious
Damn those babies are giant I thought she’d have a huge litter of small babies and they’d be hairless or something
No all piggies are born fully formed in like most rodents
I think thats wild about guinea pigs. Im used to rodent babies being blind, deff, hairless and not able to walk and here these guys come looking like miniature adults.
@TheOneNamed Savannah no many mammals do but few rodents most predators and rodents give birth to underdeveloped young while most pray animals are born and are up and walking with in an hour or two of birth
@TheOneNamed Savannah other than marsupials rodents Felines canines bares humans echidnas and platypuses. Mammals are born able to hold on to there mom or walk beside her because if you are a grazing animal it is dangerous to just leave your young laying around with predators around and it is extremely hard to carry a 50+ pound animal in your mouth let alone 2 if you have twins and run from a lion or other predator. Look at the African continent you have multiple types gazelle giraffes elephants hippos zebra donkey camel cattle horses pigs sheep goats water buffalo oxen rhino and more and in each of there there are multiple types of them.
@TheOneNamed Savannah gazelle are up and running in a few hours of birth but Shure you know must be right since most bares give birth during hibernation and when they wake up the cubs are already able to walk sice they were born two months ago and most mammals are not marsupials (have pouches) marsupials are very rare out some of Australia which is only 1 or 7 contents in North America there is only one marsupial and south America has none like
