Joshua Lee. I don't know how many times I watched you and Carson play this song at half speed to get this song down. Now you got a full lesson. Why you gotta do me like this - mad respect, thanks for the tunes brotha
@@zayb2023 Facts. Learning tunes by ear is how all your favourite musicians learned how to be musicians. You can immediately tell if someone has spent enough time developing their ears by their level of musicianship. People that just learn through reading music (whilst a good skill in its own right) just lack that cherry on top with their playing. And if you only learn by doing what other people verbally tell you to do then you really don’t have much hope of being an actual musician.
I had the pleasure of seeing Doc play at the Belly Up Tavern, a really small venue in the San Diego area a couple of decades ago, along with his son on second guitar. The man's picking style was magical, and I'll never be that good. Its great to see you carrying on the traditional musical styles and bringing them to new generations of players. Thanks!
I really appreciate Josh’s lessons. I’ve made a few cracks at learning this song but this tutorial really helped me move it along. Now maybe in a couple years it will sound half decent.
I have some finger picks laying around (never really used them though), but the first thing I learned in this lesson is that the few times I did try playing with them, I had them on backwards lol. Awesome to see a lesson for this song, your version with Carson has been playing on repeat for me for a while now!
Thanks for this one- after seeing you and Carson play this I searched "Josh Turner Sittin on top of the world tutorial". Lo and behold the gift to be found!!
You are a fantastic musician, Josh! I am happy to have seen you live in performance. To me you are the Paul McCartney of our times. Thank you so much for your generosity to share insights of your amazing talent!
I hadn't even looked since requesting this lesson more than a year ago from your "Don't Think Twice" tutorial. THANK YOU SO MUCH! No one does this as well. No one plays better, either, but Toni is right on your heels in my book.
Gotta tell you a story....In the early 70's, I was taking a Greyhound bus from Chicago to Minneapolis, Minn to see a girlfriend. Upon boarding, this crusty old guy sat next to me carrying a guitar case. He said he was a blues player. We chatted most of the trip but the most revealing thing he said was that he wrote Sittin' On Top of The World Now, everybody knows that song. His name was Sam Chatmon....a member of the Mississippi Sheiks, which meant nothing to me at my age then.
YES! YOU ARE A SAINT! I've been jamming to your cover nearly every day since you and Carson released it, but I've procrastinated learning it. It's an absolutely beautiful cover and such a jam. So thankful to be alive in your lifetime so I can rip all your covers and songs🤣
Great lesson, thank you. It’s got the right balance between proper explanation of what you’re doing and actual playing. Not too much talking and to the point - great.
I was also lucky to look very young through my thirties. Got carded all the time! Not much of a beard. Then ... my body caught up with my age, seemingly instantly. Oh, well ...
This is a very tall mountain to climb for my feeble finger pickin skills, but I might have to go for it. I've watched the referenced performance a ton of times before this instructional version was posted. Absolutely love it. Hope I get it down before I start to hate it.
Kelly, that is excellent lighting and editing. Thank you for washing and combing Josh's hair. Josh, excellent tutorial as always. My appreciation for your skill and talent are those of a person who loves guitar music (Paganini, anyone? ) but has never been able to progress past being a poor strummer. So, I live my first playing dreams vicariously through you. Thanks!
Bro you have no idea about how happy you make me feel with this video is all I've been searching for long time ☺️ 🙏🙏🙏 good Blees you brothers I'm listening this from Amsterdam 😎👌💚☘️🍃🌿🌱 good vibes for y'all
Thanks my man great stuff cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪 Brian !! That’s a cool looking guitar never seen one in Ireland before sounds like a Martin om !! Cool 😎 thanks josh
I'm fascinated by the Harmony guitar. I live in Scotland and was in a rock group in the sixties. I remember A Harmony semi acoustic electric model, but I've never seen a flat top acoustic like this one. It sounds great - and I just love the headstock - very retro!
I was hoping for your tutorial of this song! I can't wait to learn it to make a cover for my UA-cam channel! :) Thank you Josh and greetings from Italy! :)
Bro even the way you look at me with your buttoned up shirt and disappointed look is frightening the living hell out of me. How could I ever learn this song and do you justice lmao.
Hello Josh. My name is Leo. I am a man of 77 years old, and I want to learn how to play this song. I think you are a sympathetic boy, someone who has a lot of patience conveys the material well. I enjoy it a lot. Thank you very much for the effort you make for us. Warm regards from Holland. leo.
I wish I saw this 50 years ago when I was trying to figure it out from Happy Traum's 1966 book. So that's what Doc was doing with the counterpoint in the slack parts. Nice. I couldn't figure it out. Thanks.
It took me a month and a half to understand precisely what it does. now I just have to do it 500 times to be 100% comfortable! I finally see the light 😅
Who remembers John Sebastian playing this on a show probably David Frost? He took a harmonica out of his shirt pocket and ended the song with a FANTASTIC solo!
Hi Josh, watched many of your videos but haven't seen your tutorials before. Really like the style and delivery. Good blend of craft and charisma, and clear and concise information, very good. Thanks
My man!!!! Ive always loved this version, and I have a concert to play in two months, I was going through your video trying to learn it, and now you have a lesson!!!!
Hi Josh, I learned this from your earlier vid but ai could never get the timing of the opening section where you bend up on the trebles and keep the travis bass running. Not sure why this was as I really struggled with it whereas the rest of the tune was quite doable. So thanks to this brilliant vid I will work on this over the weekend and polish it up. I have told so many music friends about you and your talented friends and the great range of music you all play to am exceptionally high standard....most importantly of all you all look like you are loving your music. Thank you for inspiring this 67 year old have a go lad 😀.

learning it by ear is always a great achievement. i wouldn’t regret a thing if i was you!
Me too LOL
Same. But will happily go over it again with the tutorial. Cool stuff!
I tried learning it this way on and off for months and and I never got past the first bar. Props to you my friend!

Love this 80's cassette lesson vibe, would be lovely to see you teach more often
Or ‘70s vinyl LP lesson vibe. Long live Kicking Mule Records!
My thoughts exactly.

I see a wedding band on Josh's hand now. Congratulations!!!
Thanks a million dude. Unbelievable lesson. Never would have learned it by ear.
yeah, i'm smashing my guitar against the wall. Thanks for the tutorial man!

now i know exactly why i can’t play it
Cant play it… yet! Best of luck to all trying to learn this awesome song.
😂
Lmao me too
It's one of my all time favorite songs. It was nice to get some clarity on why I can't play it.😁
Start with some slower fingerpicking stuff, trust me I was like that too. Make learning guitar as fun as you can and you'll get there eventually
Feels like one of those tutorials from the early 2010’s. There’s some subtle humour in this tutorial for me haha
Bucking frilliant, love the tongue in cheek approach !
Mate you made my week, or however long it takes me to learn this.
Thanks for this one- after seeing you and Carson play this I searched "Josh Turner Sittin on top of the world tutorial". Lo and behold the gift to be found!!

Sam Chatmon the half brother of Charlie Patton. Both blues legends.

Great lesson, thank you. It’s got the right balance between proper explanation of what you’re doing and actual playing. Not too much talking and to the point - great.
Never heard an old Harmony sound that good!
Wow thanks dude, I was mystified by where to start with this song now I can muddle through, so much fun, thanks
I always try to comment, you are such profound talent, both you and Carson. Your love for all genres of music impress me more than anything else.
This is actual footage of Josh's fourth grade class photoshoot. 😂
I was also lucky to look very young through my thirties. Got carded all the time! Not much of a beard. Then ... my body caught up with my age, seemingly instantly. Oh, well ...
I was thinking along similar lines.

Really good Josh Lee guitar playing
Love Josh's style and the old Harmony guitar he uses that sounds wonderful.
I'm fascinated by the Harmony guitar. I live in Scotland and was in a rock group in the sixties. I remember A Harmony semi acoustic electric model, but I've never seen a flat top acoustic like this one. It sounds great - and I just love the headstock - very retro!
I had to learn this by ear + watching your cover really close, but now i see i got some things wrong, thanks man
