  • We're in Bangkok, Thailand, where Interceptor 019 has been deployed as our first step in cleaning the Chao Phraya - one of the world's busiest working rivers. Charlotte de Jong, Business Development Manager at The Ocean Cleanup, has spent years preparing for this moment, collaborating with dozens of partners and facing down the challenges that come with placing an Interceptor in a prime central location in one of the world's great cities.
Catching Up hears how Charlotte has worked together with Thai administrators, volunteers, and businesses to ensure Interceptor 019 has maximum impact and visibility for Bangkok's residents and how our technology and expertise require local expertise and ownership to complete our mission of ridding the oceans of plastic.

I want to work for the ocean project so much. That's work you can be proud of when you lay your head down at night.

Honestly, without mediation, those kind of projects don't work as efficiently! U go girl!

I Love what you’re doing! It’s Vital! Praying you get more funding to create more River Interceptors! Work with governments to create recycling facilities in the 3rd world countries! Education is key!

I honestly wish that i got to be apart of this exact work at this exact place. Thailand is my second home (I'm Australian). Would love to see nothing more than helping the world's plastic/waste issue. But also, I would love to give back to the country and communities that gave me some of the most memorable and loving moments and people I've ever met. God bless you guys 🙏 keep up the absolutely amazing work! 🙏

Living in Thailand for almost two decades, I can imagine that it must be a pretty hard job to mediate in Thailand when people on average have such a mediocre education and most probably not a lot of interest in a project where there is no money to be made.......

Please do a collab video with Ocean Conservation Namibia sometime in the near future. It would be more beneficial for the world from a environmental sustainability perspective.

there is no “physical” garbage patch, it’s not an island like it is described too frequently. it’s a marine vortex, slowly moving and catching plastics. It has huge dimensions, as far as ocean square footage, but it isn’t viewable like an island

All im asking myself as i watch these videos is where the heck are the governments of the world?? They are sitting on billion/ trillion dollar economies and it takes an innovative start up to tackle this issue. UNbelievable. Ocean Clean Up - you are bloody amazing and deserve investments in to a thousand of your fleets globally to wipe the waterways clean and then lets tackle the land and forests next. Governments step the F@#% Up!

Where are all the fish , are the nets designed not to catch any, or is the ocean almost dead, after hauling a net for such a distance wouldnt it be filled with sea creatures or at least a couple

Might be worth watching their other videos. All the answers are in there. Long story short, they design it to not trap sea life. They also have live monitoring
