In this video I show how the new feature, “Top-Down Scrolling”, works in Ham Clock version 3.04.
Note: Ham Clock version 3.03 included significant changes related to the DX clusters. Prior to 3.03, every single spot from the cluster to the clock resulted in the clock sending a show/heading command which a very vocal minority of dxcluster sysops objected to. From 3.03 onwards, the heading calculations are done locally to take the stress off of the remote cluster. For versions after 3.03, the clock puts no more load on the dxcluster network than any other user does, which is a good thing. However, the local CPU load is now very high for the stand-alone, ESP version, of the HF Clock. Users of the ESP version of the HF Clock will notice a loss of the ability to tap a callsign in the DX cluster and see the short path plot, beam heading, DX WX, and VOACAP data for the station you clicked on. The processor in the ESP HF Clock is just not powerful enough to keep up with the new programming that was required to minimize the load on the DX cluster servers.
Veritium has a faster unit available if you can supply a monitor and mouse. It is available at this link: www.veritiumhf...
If you can supply a monitor, there is an inexpensive Inovato Quadra computer bundle that comes with the software installed. As I write this, the bundle only costs $50. It is available from: www.inovato.com
If you only want the software, it is called Ham Clock. It is a free download. Here is a link that shows how to install it on a PC: w4cae.com/wait...
I thought maybe you might be interested to know which DX Cluster servers I’m currently using. Below are three of the ones that seem to have the most up-time. I have used each of these, a different one for each of my three Ham Clock applications.
Below is a list of some DX cluster hosts I have found to be reliable and stable:
Note: If you leave the Login field blank, it will use the callsign you entered in the setup menu. If you have more than one instance of Ham Clock running, use your callsign-1, callsign-2, callsign-3, etc., so the clusters don’t block you for logging in too many times with the same callsign.

These are people who have supported the channel via Patreon membership, as what I call long-haulers. Long-haulers have supported the channel on a long-term basis. There are 4 levels of Patreon membership, including S5 (Associate), S7 (Executive), S9 (VIP), and S9+ (VIP+). S9+ (VIP+) denotes an S9 (VIP) member who voluntarily chooses to give over and above the amount for S9 (VIP) membership. They help me continue to produce videos even though most people do not contribute toward the cost of my mission. Without their support, I cannot bring my viewers uncensored content.

If you find my channel informative and entertaining, I hope you will consider joining my support group by clicking on: www.patreon.com/N4HNH There are 3 levels of support, including exclusive content. Visibility of premium content is determined by the level of membership you choose. The higher the membership level, the more content you have access to. VIP members are invited to participate in periodic Zoom meetings.
Most videos are visible to the Patreon team members long before they are released for public viewing. Some videos are never released for public viewing. Yearly S7 (Executive) and S9 (VIP) members have access to the menu optimizations PDFs I’ve written for the FT-891, FT-991A, FTdx5000MP, FTdx101D/MP, FTdx10, and FT-710 AESS. Yearly S7 (Executive) members can receive one menu optimizations PDF while yearly S9 (VIP) members can receive multiple menu optimizations documents, plus my FT8 configuration guide for either the FTdx10 or the FT-710 AESS. Future radios might be added. The documents are copyrighted. They shall not be divulged to anyone else without written permission from Doug McAlexander, callsign N4HNH.
N4HNH Radio has a Web site where you can purchase T-shirts with some of the sayings you might hear in the videos. Some of the more prominent videos are featured there as well as a page geared toward ham radio training. Go to: www.n4hnhradio...

Excellent! It’s a great tool, especially for new ham operators who are still learning about propagation, but it can be good for older hams, like me.

I wish we had the ability to zoom into the map for easier viewing of DE/DX locations.

I agree. But, since the development of the software is a labor of love by the developer (he makes no money from it), he is under no obligation to keep his “customers” happy. I was surprised to have my request honored. But mine involved a simple reversal of lines of code. Perhaps, if I get another opportunity to correspond with him, I can slip your suggestion in. I have found myself wanting to scroll the mouse wheel to zoom in for a closer look.

I asked the developer. We shall see.

I heard from the developer. As expected, the answer to adding the ability to zoom in on the map is no. He said that the amount of programming needed in order to accomplish that is more than he can justify. Remember, he doesn’t charge for the software.

@n4hnhradio I appreciate you looking into this. I'd be willing to donate or even get a go-fund account setup for future software enhancements, I'm sure many others would as well. Today's amateur radio is technology driven, we the hobbyists have to continue improvement as technology advances. I love hamclock and appreciate everyone that's put time into making it.

The developer just told me that he has over 2,000 hours invested. 2,080 man hours is a year of working a 40-hour week. I guess, since he doesn’t want to dive into the complexities of adding a zoom function, I will put my MUF map on my biggest monitor. That will help.

Oh No! You mean Brent (Wade)? I'm so sorry to hear that. Wade was a faithful long-hauler in support of my channel. Without people like him, my channel would have ceased long ago. People watch videos and take advantage of Patreon content today thanks to Wade. Thanks for letting me know, Jay. I will pray for his family. I pray that the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will rest upon Wade's family. Please express my condolences to Wade's family. 73, Doug

Yessir. It matches the way the spot clusters work. I asked for top-down scrolling and Zoom in the same email. Zoom got shot down, but was later added.

I tried the spider filters that I showed in the first couple of videos. The first video is called, “A New Toy from N4CME.” It’s in the Radio Wave Propagation playlist. I think one or two of the videos are only on my Patreon site. Anyway, the spider filters didn’t work. It won’t even ignore K, W, N callsigns, so I only see DX that is outside of the USA. It couldn’t filter out data either. I don’t want to see FT8 spots, but they come through anyway. It’s okay. I still value the clock for the propagation data it provides, which is usually correct around 90% of the time. I have a future video about that. It’s in the editing phase.

Hi! Thanks for all nice videos you host in your channel.. Have you found a way to connect HamClocks DX Cluster with WSJT-X on your Windows PC? And by the way I see here you skipped Page2 with this setup..

I haven’t tried. I skipped page two because that is where you input your LAN info and password.

Hello, thanks for the video. I am wondering how to change the 'local' time. I just noticed that the software didn't update after daylight savings time.

You change the local time offset in the menu. That’s explained in one of the videos in the series.

How do you make it full-screen on Ubuntu? Mine only shows as 800x400.

You decide the size when you create the executable. I used: make -j 4 hamclock-web-1600×960
I followed the instructions at the link inside my video description: w4cae.com/wait-a-hamming-minute-hamclock-and-windows/

Who did you reach out to for your suggestion? I have my display setup very similar to yours using the VOCAP and such. I would love to have the option to NOT have the dx weather displayed in that box when clicking. It seems to stay there forever and I just have to wait for the probability predictions to finally repopulate it. Just a thought.
Thanks again for all your helpful videos.

I covered the setup in the earlier videos. There is a playlist called Radio Wave Propagation. The videos are also in the Accessories playlist. The first video is entitled, “ A New Toy from N4CME.”
