He was retired with a nice nest egg of 5 million dollars. His accountant embezzled all his money, so he came back to do all these concerts to retire once again after. A terrible misfortune for him, but, my goodness, what a blessing for the rest of us. He had so much left to give. Bless his soul. Rest in peace, Leonard. You have earned it.

If the Nobel committee chose to pick a poet/songwriter for Literature,
It should have been this man, not Dylan.
Not just for this year, but for the whole 20C.

I am 63 years old and a veteran of some of the most epic live concerts ever...but...no one was as good as Leonard Cohen. Saw him in Glasgow and it will live with me forever. 50 years this man has sang my go to music.

I am not the first to say this by any means, but Leonard Cohen is one of the precious few artists who's voice actually got better as he aged. The older he grew, the more his poetry rang with authority of that human conscience touched by the Divine.

    • @SeedOilFitnessOfficial
      @SeedOilFitnessOfficial 3 роки тому +4

His range got lower as he aged. The Studio version is alil higher but his age made him hit those deeper, richer Bass range notes even better

    • @budahbaba7856
      @budahbaba7856 3 роки тому +6

@@SeedOilFitnessOfficial you may be right, but all i am saying, he just continued to get more and more beautiful as he aged. I still looked like a teenager until i hit 40, but that is not the same thing as Leonard Cohen. He had a beauty that was timeless regardless the age on his face.

This man, Leonard Cohen, has been entertaining me for 48 years and I never get tired of him. Somehow I can deeply relate to his music. Back when all my friends were listening to The stones, Beatles, etc. --Lenny was my #1. His lyrics and music are about as poetic as you can get. Can't say enough about this very talented musician/songwriter/composer/human!!

I think that phrase, among doubtless others, hilites the wisdom of Mr Cohen. Especially when you put it into the context of STD -AIDS specifically. And i begin speaking in stereotypes here. You don't know who your father is. You don't! And that was a huge wake up call for those of us who remember the beginnings of the AIDS epidemic. We by and large followed a naive pattern of trust in our partners about their history. Nothing was as pure as it was presented to us.
And something else i feel obligated to say. There are lots of "educational" videos out there that want to inform the public about AIDS that paint a villain of the American public because we were afraid. Here is the entire context (as best as i can offer it). At a very early stage, courts made AIDS a politically protected disease. At the same time, we kept getting different versions from the authorities about how contagious AIDS was. As it turned out later on, the early tests were failing to distinguish between the virus that causes AIDS, and Hep C. Hep C is very contagious, and lasts a long time on surfaces. And so were families bigots in trying to defend their loved ones? Hell no, they weren't! Nobody really knew what was going on.

*Suzannah* Oh ya! I think he was a father figure to a lot of us. He was also always willing to be that dog that you kick under the table -and i speak metaphorically i do not kick dogs, my own sanity depends on the friendship of a canine. His name is Timmy, but i call him Snuggle Puppy, because that is what he is good at. He is dumb as a rock in terms of training, but he reads emotions and empathises like no creature i have ever seen. Anyway, back to point, for me, i am not even of his religion, but when Leonard Cohen passed from this world, we lost a living prophet. And while i hope his mantle was passed -he may have just been a gift, not a Tradition. We have yet to see i think.

  •  7 років тому +92

    Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
    Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
    And a long stem rose
Everybody knows Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
    Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
    Without your clothes
And everybody knows Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
Everybody knows Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
Everybody knows And everybody knows that it's now or never
Everybody knows that it's me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton
    For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it's moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
    That will disclose
What everybody knows And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
    To the beach of Malibu
    Everybody knows it's coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
    Before it blows
And everybody knows Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
Everybody knows Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
    That's how it goes
    Everybody knows Everybody knows

This is not the best version of my most played of his songs, but given his death on the 10/11/2016 , it will be cherished for its depth of character in delivery
