Depending on the year the 148GTL was manufactured, you can get alot out of those transievers. Nice Haul!!! Greetings from UDX 4570 Palm Springs,Ca 73's👋🤠🎙⚡️
Well done you, for sticking at it removing the old paint, from the covers. Nice colour choice. Good idea with the stick on feet to lift the radio off the table.
Wow! This brings back a lot of memories! I had one of these radios back in the early days. fantastic radio, made numerous contacts with it all over world. Nice job restoring the covers !!
Kate it don’t matter what the cover looks like on it. It is what’s inside that counts . Thankyou so much for helping people like me out . Thanks Bob sand man old man 94. KC9LRA . Yes I’m all of them.
Nice job Kate! I've used vinyl wrap to cover up old nasty looking case covers. Of course, first contact on that radio and who do you hear...NB2209 Mr. Bob! Lol You GOT IT going on Miz Kate with the ol skool cool! 😎
Small world, your video just happened to drop into my feed and the first contact you make on the 148 is a guy that lives about 30 miles from me. You did a great job on refinishing the case. I redid one once and ran into the same issue you had with getting the old paint off. I came across this black wrinkle finish paint. You put it in an a low temp oven right after spraying the cover and it would give you this awesome textured finish after it baked.
Greetings. Nice work there Kate with an iconic cb radio. I've worked a few on the 26 division and who knows, maybe I'll get the chance to catch you on the air sometime. 73 and all the best, 79 AC 035.
Congratulations Kate, I´m very happy. You are using the same radio than I have since the age of 14 years old, still working. 7351 very good job wiht the paint congratulations.
Hi Kate, great work on the 148 gtl it looks awesome. They should of done them Like that in factory makes it look flash. Ya gotta love those ol cobras great radio I reckon. Keep up the good work mate. 73s cheers 43 Wr108 scotty. 👍🎙⚡️🔥
Preheat the oven for 10 min on 130 and put the case in the oven for around 5 to 8 mins and take it out just grab the corner of plastic it just peeled off. Glad you're sending to nick he's the best. You've done great job.
Yeah that plastic stuff is hard to get rid of. I did this with an old President Jackson, made the cover and the front white. The letters on the front are also not an easy job, but with a few coats of clear finish it looked amazing all white. Good job, the silver looks good too.
The cases on pretty much all uniden radios were plastic coated from factory, not the best environmental idea but I think the easiest way to remove the plastic is to burn it off, it will also remove the plastic from in the screw hole dimples, and just a suggestion go into screwfix or similar and get some rubber tap washers to put between bracket to stop bracket scratching the case, knights also do nice galvanised brackets for £7.95
👍👍Kate,,, Please tell us about the meter you are using under the 148. How does it hook up to the radio,,, it's real cool. I want one....where can we buy one. I love your channel, Thanks
Kate, did you score through the original paint with a blade before applying the Nitromors? This really helps the Nitromors eat into the paint more quickly...great job! 👍
Good that you got the COBRA 148GTL and not the COBRA 200GTL DX as the driver transistor is prone to burnout, if the driver goes kapoot what about a VN66AF VMOS transistor.
I had the same issue in the 90s in the UK with an old Stalker IX. I used the easy method of buying sticky back plastic to cover the cases which looked pretty decent. I'm sure if you went to these new companies that wrap cars you could get some interesting designs including chrome and gold. They probably have some smaller bits knocking around they would sell for cheap money
too late i know but its plastic coat so a hot air gun should work well , nice to see one of these up and running ,ive got a couple of dx,s for rebuild one in good nick other looks like it was fished out of a cannal, but the other half was offended i wanted to talk to strangers instead of her, oops i was well into these in the 90s -im old
hello kate,i think we had a qso at 22.8.23 /15.22utc/27400lsb,from this radio by you ,i think the propagation go fast down,i lost you.thanks anyway,i hope to hear you in the future again,13LR027 robert73 😀🙋🏼♂️📡
