You’re definitely the radio doctor , that was major surgery. Great work. Looking fwd to one of my Grant XL’s getting that work over. That thing looks like a brand new radio
I love this you do extremely good work . I've got a cobra 148 with all the side channels . I it is very sentimental to me it was my father's I just lost back in October. He got it when i was like 12 i was really in the cb hobby and still am .small town no good cb shop's. What I wouldn't give to send it to you to this to .
A BIG boat load of work on that old radio. Now she can sail with the big ships! Major and minor manufacturing madness and magic to restore and upgrade a true classic. My hat is off to you, Brother. Outstanding work. 73, I'm off the key. 😑🦗
The old gal cleaned up nice! 😄..some are rigs are worth the extra time and effort. These 148's fall into that category. I classify them as "cb legends". Take care my friend..👋
Awsome vid hey i was wondering if you wouldnt mind doing like a short clip in your soldiering equipment & what type of soldier you use i do Do some electronic repairs myself but i mainly work on rc cars for myself & friends & am always looking to learn on better soldiering equipment
Yep they are totally unavailable at this point. I took this one from my personal collection. Yes they need to be hardwired in. The fc390 is the older version.
@@TheRadioGarage I saw an old video from CBRadioMagazine where he reviewed the DOSY FC50-S which is made for SSB, but that requires holding a small speaker to the mic so it can generate a tone. Kind of a hassle it seems. Palco Electronics listed some freq. counters as being in stock. But when I called to inquire, they were out of stock. It'd be nice if companies updated their websites.
please please please let us know when you get them counters and encoders love to have my Washington done by you full out rebuild go hog wild on it. don't care what the cost it was my first radio and that radio is going in the grave with me.God Bless and take care.
@@TheRadioGarage aaww man c'mon.. I have an old 23 channel ssb Channel Cat that needs work. It doesnt come on. Its in pretty good physical shape. (Where can I get a squelch/vol/on/off switch)

That's a cool set up on that radio!!! All I did to my 148 (decades ago), I had an echo board w/talkback and set it with a Texas star 250!!

Nobody has the freq. counters in stock. Been looking for an FC347 or FC390.

Are you taking on repairs yet?
No..I will inform everyone when the time comes
Ok thank you
If it ain't a 148 gtl DX...
To all cobra 148 GTL DX owners (especially mk1) keep your radios stock. Leave them be.
Why because that's the way you like them?
you need a FCC licences GENERAL or EXREA to work on CB's and HAM stuff,,,don"t do it w/out licence please
