Muchas gracias! Actually, your Spanish sounds better than my English. I enjoyed the excellent and thorough analysis of both games. I'll definitely add an item percentage display to the pause menu in a future update, thanks for the suggestion! Thank you very much for choosing my game for your video series.
You are welcome. I first stumbled across your blog eight years ago, and I've been following this project ever since, cherishing every update, and devouring every Metroid Confrontation demo as they've come out. The finished game was everything I was hoping for and more. It's one of the best remakes I've reviewed on this segment, and I wanted to do it justice. Thank you so much for watching, y buena suerte con sus proyectos futuros.
I shall add my 2 Euros by saying this: That Metroid 2 remake? It's amazing so far. It's a shame Nintendo is rather stingy as usual, by hey. What can we do? The point is this: Thanks.
I was completely blown away by this game. It doesn't feel like a fan project at all... it's so faithful to everything that the series is and Nintendo should be downright embarrassed that they haven't come up with something good since Zero Mission.
moozooh As far as I remember about Corruption (it's been a while), my only real gripe with it is the disjointed world world which goes against a core bit of design that makes metroidvania titles so interesting: the large inter-connected world
ingeniousclown Gaming To be honest that's one reason I consider it a Metroid in name only. It felt more like a Halo game or something like that, with unnecessary motion control gimmicks and some Metroid elements forced in. It's still a beautiful, well-made game, but as a Metroid it fails completely imo.
SteveDoidoUltimate Carlos Eduardo Aguiar Pode ser. hehehe Acompanho muito canais. Na verdade, acompanho mais canais gringos do que brasileiros, agora que parei pra pensar. lol
*PLEASE READ* I'd like to address a recurring comment now before it becomes too prolific. Also, the project never received a Cease and Desist letter, just DMCA takedowns of links to the game. DoctorM64 said as much on his blog. People keep saying that, and they're simply wrong. People keep saying that if Nintendo doesn't take down every unlicensed use of their IPs, then said IPs become public domain. People keep telling me this, but never actually provide any citations to primary or secondary legal sources, or even articles on the internet, verifying that is actually the case. I'm going to explain why this is *incorrect,* but bear in mind that I don't have access to a law library or Westlaw at this time, so I'll be making do with sources that are readily accessible. I'd also like to remind the folks at home that though I've taken a few legal studies courses in my college career, I am not a licensed lawyer. The following is not a substitute for formal legal advice and is for educational purposes only. Please also remember that I don't know everything about this topic as it applies to every country. If you have something constructive to add, please reply and offer links to reputable sources. Anyways, the claim that Nintendo has to enforce its copyright of the Metroid IP or let it become public domain confuses trademarks with copyright. Trademarks cover logos, brands, slogans, jingles, etc. that help people identify a certain company and its work. Copyright covers artistic works like books, film, and other media; including video games. You can find formal legal definitions of these terms on Black's Law Dictionary (thelawdictionary.org/trade-mark/), (thelawdictionary.org/copyright/), but here are definitions for the laymen on LegalZoom (www.legalzoom.com/trademarks-patents-copyrights/summary-compare-trademark-copyright.html). Trademarks have to be regularly enforced, or the holder does indeed lose the right to them. This article from the International Trademark Assocation (which ostensibly covers Japan as well), summarizes the topic nicely (www.inta.org/TrademarkBasics/FactSheets/Pages/LossofTrademarkRightsFactSheet.aspx). In /Abraham Vs. Alpha Chi Omega/ (2013), the US Court of Appeals rejected a claim by a group of dozens of sororities/fraternities that a paddle manufacturer's use of their logos infringed on their trademark. In this case, the paddle manufacturer had been using marks from those Greek organizations for thirty years, and long before those organizations started licensing the use of those marks. The ten years after saw the buildup to the court case, where the court ultimately rejected for the Greek organizations' lack of enforcement in the previous decades. In summary, because the Greek organizations had failed to enforced their trademark for decades, they were not entitled to legal relief. You can read the full opinion here (www.ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pub/12/12-10525-CV0.wpd.pdf). Additionally, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an NGO dedicated to upholding the rights of the layperson in the digital world, also explains that companies are not required to over-enforce their trademarks, either. (www.eff.org/about). The Abraham case shows a long-running pattern of non-enforcement by Alpha Chi Omega and its subsidiaries, and that's how they ultimately lost legal recourse. Copyright, on the other hand, *does not expire from non-use or failure to enforce the way that trademarks can.* This article from the US Copyright Office explains all the circumstances under which a copyright may expire or otherwise be lost. (www.copyright.gov/circs/circ03.pdf). Nowhere in this document is non-use or failure to enforce mentioned in this document. Plagiarism Today, an organization which discusses issues of copyright, content misuse, and other plagiarism, lists the expiration of copyright due to failure to enforce as one of the great myths of copyright today (www.plagiarismtoday.com/stopping-internet-plagiarism/your-copyrights-online/3-copyright-myths/). The way copyright works today, you own the rights immediately upon manifesting it in some tangible medium, and you can further register your rights at the US Copyright Office to secure exclusive publishing rights (the right to copy, go figure) for a set period of time. If you fail to renew the copyright before it expires, then and only then does the property become public domain. Since Metroid is a video game, and not a brand (something to separate seemingly similar products from each other), logo, slogan, jingle, or company name, it will be covered by copyright and not trademark. The only way that Nintendo could lose the rights to the Metroid IP is if they fail to renew it on time; that is the only way Metroid can become public domain. So this claim that Nintendo has to scour the internet and take down everything using Metroid content is simply false. You might be able to make the case that the game's use of the Nintendo logo violates the company's trademark, but Nintendo has made it clear in its comments to video game journalists that they DMCA'd the game over its use of the Metroid IP, not for violating its trademark. The point of this whole essay is that if Nintendo wanted to, they could've just left AM2R alone and it would not result in their IP becoming public domain. In fact, the idea's pretty absurd when you think about it. What's the point of copyright if any asshat off the street can use your iconography for a period of time and cause your copyright to be taken away from you? It kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? And let's not forget about the dozens of other fangames on the internet that Nintendo hasn't acted on. Anyone ever heard of Super Smash Flash? It's a Super Smash Bros. game built in Adobe Flash, featuring Nintendo regulars as well as characters from other holders like Sora of Kingdom Hearts fame. Super Smash Land is a similar game that "demakes" Super Smash Bros. in a Game Boy aesthetic. Nintendo has never acted on either of these games, and last I checked, they still own the rights to Super Smash Bros. At the end of the day, Nintendo did take down links to AM2R, reflecting their overprotective nature when it comes to copyright. Some people suggest that they never acted to stop the game in the ten years it was being developed because they wanted to see it get released or something like that, but come on; we all know that's baloney. They just didn't know about it. While companies like Sega have embraced the digital era, and even published rom hacks and fangames through official channels, Nintendo continues to live in a bubble where the internet doesn't exist, where UA-cam and fair use do not exist, and where fan communities can't pay tribute to their favorite properties in constructive ways. The whole AM2R thing is just another brick in the wall, alongside Nintendo's violation of creators' fair use on UA-cam through Content IDs and Copyright Strikes, and its godawful UA-cam partner program that lets them leech money off of content creators.
Here's an idea for Nintendo: Ahem HIRE PEOPLE THAT MAKE GAMES LIKE THAT. THEY WOULD MAKE YOUR GAMES GREAT AGAIN. or you know continue to lose profits and third party support and creative ideas
That actually clears a lot up for me. Regrettably, I'm one of the people who suggested that Nintendo never acted because they wanted people to play the game. Hindsight is 20/20. It does seem kind of dumb now that I think about it.
I just wanna point out that the original Metroid 2 DID show you how many metroids were left in a given area. When you pause the game, the number of total metroids changes to how many are left in the area.
Yep. A few people have pointed that out. Hopefully replying will bump this up so everyone can see. I do wish the game was clearer about what that number meant, though. I did notice there was a different number when you're paused, but it's not labelled in a way that you can discern what it means, you know?
+Gore Magala Strange seeing you here, Gore. I didn't know you liked Metroid. But since you're here, l want to ask, well, STOP GIVING ME PLATES INSTEAD OF NYCTGEMS, YOU DISEASED LIZARD! Sincerely, your Nº 1 fan. P.S. How's your dad?
You and the Game Mavericks should do a lets play on this Mega Man fan game called Mega Man Triple Threat its really fun fun fun fun FUN and WORTH CHECKING OUT
Chad Estrada well, no duh Nintendo we're always idoits they put controversy in there games (but thats only in Japan) what is going through these peoples heads what are snorting from up there butts, well atleast Nintendo listens to their fans, and this comment is coming from a Nintendo fanboy (which is type of person I am).
Now that we know of the existence of Metroid: Return of Samus, it makes sense why AM2R was taken down, while other projects like Super Smash Flash and Smash Land haven't been.
The sad thing is that Samus Returns turned out to be an "ok" game instead of being a gem. Between that and AM2R, most fans seem to choose the fan game as the definitive Metroid 2 remake experience.
i love samus returns, but it is just a diffrent experience from metroid2. meanwhile,am2r wanted to keep the original experience and make it infinitly better
I don't get why people are upset Nintendo waited until after release to DMCA the project... Would you rather they sent a C&D and we never got to play the game at all? Not to mention the game is back up for download officially now with the 1.1 update. It's clear to me Nintendo is perfectly fine with people playing the game, they just did "what they had to do". (in Docm64's own words)
What? This has nothing to do with the AM2R situation. And nobody is owed anything. I'd love a new traditional Metroid game, and I bet there'll be one or two on the NX. But with the franchise's sales, you can't expect Nintendo to make a big budget Metroid game simply because their "fans"(I use the term loosely) can't be satisfied with anything else.
I don't think it's so much about being mad Nintendo took it down upon release as it is about the fact that 1) they did it at all; 2) they only seem to care about their fans when it's time to take something fan-made down. Naturally it's more preferable to have the game leaked rather than not made, but it's kind of shitty either way.
"He's doing something illegal, but we'll wait for him to waste more of his time until we do something about it." Doesn't that kinda sound like a dick move? If they truly cared about their brand then why not contact him as soon as he started releasing beta versions?
joe shmo More like, "We're fine with him making this game, but in order to protect our IP in the future, we'll take down the file after it's been put out for the internet to spread." Note that they didn't C&D the project, nobody's time was wasted, you can still get the game if you wish to. If you really think Nintendo waited until the game released just to spite Docm64, I don't know if there's any helping you.
@Bulb66 I feel like when Nintendo announced MP4, they probably never started making it yet, and only finished the announcement, so maybe they are offering the best graphics or something.
EPG, you make some of the most intelligent game analyses that I've ever seen, and no matter what your opinion or stance is on the subject, however out there or similar it may be, it is always respectable and appreciable due to your intellectual and respectful treatment towards it. Keep up the good work.
+ExoParadigmGamer Hey Exoparadigm I actually wanted to bring up something... The reason why Other M didn't register the stories of prime in it... Other M took place shortly after Super Metroid and... Prime was maybe 3 or 4 years (forgive me I haven't played the prime games) after SM. Sorry if I wasted my time as you may have known this, I just wanted you to know why they did that.
Your comment is appreciated, and I understand what you mean. If you're interested in my full impressions on this issue, here they are in essay format. For me, the biggest red flag was the whole "Zebesian" thing. In one cutscene, Samus is attacked by bioengineered space pirates (the lobster-looking kind from the 2D games). She kills them, and then reports to Adam that they are "Zebesians." Space Pirates may have been called that back when the first few games were released in the 80's or 90's, but the Prime Trilogy and the Zero Mission Manga (which is canon) established that the Space Pirates aren't natives of Planet Zebes; they took the planet over after they exterminated the original Chozo inhabitants. Prime 3, meanwhile, established that their true homeworld is called Urtraghus (which is just called the Space Pirate Homeworld in the Western localizations). Perhaps this is unfaithful to the original continuity, but Zero Mission also retconned Kraid being a little guy in the NES game, so I don't see why the origin of the Space Pirates' can't be changed as well. Point is, if they had just called the lobster space pirates "Space Pirates," it would recognize the way that the Prime Trilogy and Zero Mission updated the series continuity. By choosing to refer to them as "Zebesians" in Other M, series producer Yoshio Sakamoto has chosen to ignore the ways that the Prime Trilogy expanded on the Metroid mythos. He's the guy who helped create the series and produced/directed all the 2D games, including Super Metroid. I'm almost certain that nativism factors in there somewhere, too, but the biggest factor is certainly Sakamoto's limited role in the production of the Prime Trilogy (which was largely handled by Kensuke Tanabe). Sakamoto regained full creative control while with Other M, and that's around the time that Nintendo suddenly decided the Prime trilogy is "gaiden" many years after their release. I guess Sakamoto felt like Retro and Tanabe were straying from his original vision and wanted to course correct, so he decided the games were gaiden and totally ignored them in Other M. The problem with that is the fact that the Prime Trilogy resonated with so many people and gave people a greater appreciation for the Metroid mythos than they had ever had before. The scan log and the lore created what felt like a living breathing universe, which, in my opinion, only makes Metroid better. We spent years with those games leading up to the release of Other M, and to see them ignored while Sakamoto-produced games like Super and Metroid II get a ton of small references feels like Sakamoto is essentially telling fans that they're wrong for enjoying something that doesn't match his vision, which I honestly do find kind of insulting. Essay over.
+ExoParadigmGamer Holy moly... I'm avoiding swearing but... Dang that's a lot to take in and I do thank you for telling me all of this. I'm glad you did and I think I got a better understanding for your reasons why now. ...Though don't expect my own summary as my head is still wrapping around it.
Also, in one of Samus's monologues at the beginning of Other M she mentions that her participation with Adam's team would be the first time she's worked directly with Federation troops since becoming a bounty hunter, which means Metroid Prime 3 never happened.
You think a company that has been making games for 126 years is one of the dumbest in the world? You may not like everything they do but companies doing dumb things continually isn't how they survive and profit for decades and decades. I have only been able to find one British company that makes games that is older and they started in the 1700s. Very few companies manage to survive even 100 years as an independent company. It is hard to point at any company and say they are perfect. They pretty much all do things that are dumb or that people don't like at least some times. But the worlds dumbest companies are the ones that have managed to put themselves completely out of business. Yahoo once had a chance to buy Google and instead they bought (and ruined and then stopped using) Altavista. Atari had the chance to be the US distributer for Nintendo and said no. Midway bought the arcade division of Atari, decided the name sounded old and that they shouldn't use it, did pretty much nothing with the games they got the rights to, and on top of that decided to stop making arcade games. The list of dumb moves that put tech and game companies out of business could just go on and on and on. The point is that as a company Nintendo is very smart overall and makes big piles of cash most of the time while so many others have managed to run themselves into the ground in a decade or less.
+Dracomut Yup. You don't have to protect copyright. Read XPG's comment at the top of the comment section. Ninty is just being a bag of dicks, Sega doesn't take down their fans works of art, they *HIRE THEM AND MAKE MONEY.*
I'm not mad with Nintendo because of this game, the legal team thought that they should complain to protect their intellectual property and prevent it from becoming public domain (in the legal aspect, if you don't claim something, you loose the exclusive right in the future). The legal action that took Nintendo was the less harmful to the community (at least this time, I cannot say the same with the remake of Super Mario 64): They didn't stopped DoctorM64 until the game was already released, and that was just a protocol act because we can still download the game and played. Nintendo didn't stopped DoctorM64 from doing the game nor us from playing it. Another point is that they didn't send a letter of cease and desist, that means that DoctorM64 can still update the game without legal repercussion.
The reason Nintendo did the was because they were making their own metroid 2 remake and this would have been a direct competitor. Granted at the time no one knew about that but that's why they did it
I wouldn't consider AM2R a total replacement for M2, for a specific reason. Because of its monochrome, smaller-than-room-size screen size, and general oppressive atmosphere, Metroid II is still a unique immersive experience with a lot of appreciable touches missing from AM2R. If you're a true fan of the series, I would highly recommend playing Metroid II… then AM2R. Metroid II may turn you away at first, but the longer you play it, the more it grows on you …and the ending is absolutely brilliant from a psychological design standpoint.
I agree with you. Metroid 2 was my first Metroid game and I absolutely loved it. And this remake won't get some minor touches the original had, but it is still an amazing game.
Metroid 2 was one of my first gameboy games as a kid but i have to disagree with you in 2016 that the remake is far better. Metroid 2 is easier than the remake which kills the immersion of gameplay, the limitations of creating a pretty creepy planet infested with aliens and hazards is underwhelming, the music is pretty awful except for SR388 theme. AM2R not only remakes but greatly improves over the limitations of lore, characters, actions, the soundtrack even though most of it are remixes of other metroid games, Planet SR388's locations, its flora fauna, the gameplay has been tweaked to be much harder I was a little clenched with my controller because I didn't know whats going to happen soon and how should i tackle it, some of the bosses and late game metroids really gave me trouble which did kick my senses to stop messing around and actually focus more often which all of these listed makes this game pretty immersive in my books. When I beaten metroid 2 for the last time. years ago it was a cringey playthrough and I really dont see myself going back to this game ever again its way too dated and i never let nostalgia cloud my judgement ever which sadly most people do and they need to stop that especially the ones who think that new games are crap compared to the ones they grew up.
SOHGuy Well I for one can still appreciate the original for what it is, and enjoy playing it alongside AM2R. And my argument isn't that AM2R doesn't stand up to the original, merely that it doesn't encompass _everything_ good the original had to offer.
Ok but imo the original game plus metroid 1 just dont hold up for me and I rather not play those games anymore unless im feeling very retro. There are so many games me and you have grown up with but for me alot of them do not hold up and most of the aged games i've sold or still keep but never play them (because they have almost no value), If a game has better control and presentation while keeping the challenge or making it harder still intact then im ok with that in AM2R. But the old one had some crummy controls, it doesn't have enough memory for more things to add to the game to give it some lore like the later metroid games. I still remember my experience playing these games, the music in most games sticks to my mind the most so i tend to go to youtube to listen to osts alot on my phone or computer. If I do miss playing that certain game I can just go to my console and officially buy a cheap digital copy or sometimes i get lucky finding the actual cartridges like few months ago i found a working sega game gear with some really good games and had a good time replaying those games again and playing games that are new to me. Its kinda nice for me to play these old games after a few years but i rather stick to the better versions.
Ultimately, I can't be mad at Nintendo for taking it down. After all, Nintendo have been hyper-protective of their IP's since they gave Phillips the chance to use them. I don't think this is a case of "Hey, this game is so good that they're making us look bad, let's take it down to show them who's boss." more a "Hey, someone's made a game based on our IP. Better take it down to make sure it doesn't negatively impact us." By which I mean, they do this to pretty much every unlicensed game, based on their IP's, that comes to their attention, regardless of how good it is.
You can stay stationary on those airholes that spawn endless monsters and keep bombing to refill your life+missiles quickly. It's staggering how many UA-camrs don't figure this out while playing Metroid 1.
I scrolled forever and didn't find anyone else mentioning this: at 16:52 , you are incorrect: in the original Metroid 2, you can see the counter of how many "Metroids are left in the area/before making the lava drop" by pausing the game which makes the counter toggle between current area/whole game.
AM2R's graphics are plenty good enough, and sometimes too high graphics can actually ruin the fun when you emphasize them over gameplay. I think AM2R did exactly what it needed to, no more, no less. Samus Returns is.... eh. I don't know something about it just didn't..... "grab" me, I didn't bother buying it.
Based on some tweets I’ve seen he’s not a big fan. Having found 100%ing the game annoying. He also called 2017 “one of the most disappointing years in gaming”
+Bryan A. Well, FireRed/LeafGreen has color, Ruby/Sapphire style graphics, extra content such as breeding and extra islands, remastered music, and is in color. How's Red/Blue better?
I’d like to praise this video as being one of the only AM2R videos that hasn’t dated after E3 2017’s announcement of Metroid Prime 4 and the announcement and release of Metroid Samus Returns.
If the big-wigs at Nintendo had half a brain, they would release AM2R as a bonus unlockable game in samus returns. I think that would have made a lot of people happy and restored a lot of good faith in the community with them. But that's just my 2 cents.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this! I love AM2R and it's great to see Metroid getting some love (since Nintendo isn't doing it). I haven't felt like this in a long time! It's so good! Much respect and I gotta check out you other videos. Cheers! :)
Jesus Christ man, if this is the standard quality of the videos you upload then I don't understand how is it that you don't have more subscribers, you just earned one more...this review was top notch! On a side note, I'd like to mention that it really touched me to hear you say those warm words in spanish. It was a very nice detail of you, thank you for this video.
For those who still don't have it: Go to google. Search for AM2R. Enter the official website. Read the latest post, it gives you a link to a post on the official forum where they have the latest version. Enjoy.
Perfect Review of both games, Very well made script you did there, and really good editing. Overall a great video and Game Review. You got my like sir.
I positively love it when fans get sick of waiting for content creators to do something so they do it themselves. This is an optimal example. If Nintendo were to be making their own remake of Metroid 2 or if AM2R was making money, then I'd concur with their DMCA notice. As it is this is just petty bullshit. AM2R will not in any way shape or form disrespect their IP, take away sales from future installments of Metroid (Though watch Nintendo blame it for Federation Force not doing amazingly despite that game looking better than expected) or basically anything. Maybe at best it will take away sales of the virtual console version of Metroid 2? Woo? I doubt it was a big money spinner in the first place. If anything, they should take the fact that it exists as proof that fans really want a true Metroid installment, more specifically a sidescroller. Prime is fine I guess and I'm sure a new one would sell well but I personally think Metroid shines most with Super Metroid or Zero Mission.
The ironic thing about the one thing it might take away (being VC sales of metroid 2) is i recently saw a bunch of AM2R fans telling people to buy Metroid 2 to show their support of the metroid series
To play devils advocate the game is pretty much a complete replacement for Metroid II available for free to anyone with a PC, theoretically this hurts Nintendo's VC sales for Metroid II.
+Jimmy Chongo yeah that is true, and as much as it might suck, Nintendo does have to defend their IP especially if it's bringing in any amount of money
+Jimmy Chongo yeah that is true, and as much as it might suck, Nintendo does have to defend their IP especially if it's bringing in any amount of money
Funny how this remake had no to little funding and became so much better then other games nintendo made in general "if only other m did better on sales " BULLSHIT!!!
This was the first time I saw one of your videos, and I was amazed that you cared enough to "try" to speak in spanish, I say "try" because you actually spoke pretty good, I´m mexican and I loved that you did that, excelent video! definitely checking out A2MR
What's crazy is that this video is going to be the first ROR to actually get a part 2 (he said in his Metroid 1 ROR that he was gonna do an ROR on Metroid 2 with the Gameboy, 3ds, and AMR2).
Metroid II is a complete masterpiece, the best game on the Game Boy, and a contender for the best Metroid game. It's a simple and realistic presentation. There are no maps in a real adventure. Git gud. I played it twice, got the best ending the second time. I never had a problem remembering where everything was, and I even got almost all of the missiles. I don't recall ever needing to grind, either. The music was incredible and atmospheric. It's one of the few games I've played that I can consider genuinely scary. If a game can scare me, thrill me, make me cry, or make me forget I'm playing a game, it's doing something really well. I think Metroid II did all of those things for me. Game Boy music is something special. Nothing else can be as spooky. It's an incredible thing. I played this game after finding a used copy in a used game store, buying it at an insane bargain. I'm not some old nostalgic guy, either. Nay, I played it on Game Boy Advance SP. The game is older than I am, and I played it well after the DS had already become a thing. Your lack of respect for this game disturbs me greatly.
Following you for a while, just want to share my sincere appreciation for your brilliant work. Super-competent and humble, rare qualities to find in young gamers nowadays.
It’s the The Second Reality Project Reloaded of the Metroid franchise: it is a “Replace”!!! So with that that said, I’m sure a lot more of us than you think we’re waiting for Exo to make “ROR: The Second Reality Project Series (Original vs. Reloaded)” and predictably (but in a great way), it will get a “Replace” at the end.
am2r is in my opinion the best metroid game we have had since prime 1. just as good as prime 1 and super metroid. It just goes to show the fans know what nintendon't lmao
Let us also not forget that the game is also playable on an SNES with the Super Game Boy attachment and you can either play it in black and white or in color, plus that the game is also available on the Wii, Wii U, DS/DSI, and 3DS/2DS as well under the eShop/Virtual Console, +ExoParadigmGamer.
Fantastic analysis of *both* games! Subscribed! I've been a long-time fan of the Prime series, and am just now getting into playing the 2D games-- i didn't get into Nintendo until the N64, and have never been much of a fan of handhelds, but i recently acquired a GameBoy Player for my GameCube-- so i appreciate the historical overview you gave in this dual review. As a Mac guy, this makes me want to pick up a PC just for this. Great job!
For those wondering where the developer of AM2R is, he got a job at Moon Studios and is now a level designer for the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest.
This ought to be good. RIP AM2R. First Zelda 30th anniversary, now this. Screw Nintendo. They're only alive at this point because of their glorydays in the past.
+TBrizzle01 Yep... And now it's up to the (good) independent developers to take what was good from those glory days, mix it with some originality, and evolve into the new triple A. ...Or you know have triple A companies *listen* to their communities and critics while paying some attention to sales numbers; instead of only looking at sales number and maybe sometimes looking at a couple reviews.
+Left4Cake It's not just Nintendo that doing it plenty of other triple A companies are (or at least were) doing it, such as: EA, Capcom, Activision, and Konami just to name a few.
True but Nintendo I think is the biggest offender. Thou this could be because they are the only console manufacturer that has this issue and thous it's easier to see.
I second this. The pronunciation was funny to hear, but the message gets across perfectly. That being said... I'm not one to talk, my english pronunciation sucks way more than Metroids suck energy, lol.
Well, I tried my best and I guess that's what matters. I took four years of Spanish in High School, but I haven't had a chance to use it regularly since. I'm surprised I even remembered to use the present subjunctive for "espero que encuentre exito."
ExoParadigmGamer Yeah, you could use that which is correct and "Espero que encuentres tus logros". My native language is spanish tho i haven't write the language regularly in like 5-6 years. So writing in spanish is so fucking weird for me now. I still remember this tho (ñ) which is important to spanish in pc (ALT + 164). But even when i lived in Puerto Rico (which is my whole childhood till i was 16) When i was on the internet i just typed in english most of the time. So thats why it wasn't so hard to transition for me when i came to the US.
ExoParadigmGamer Nah, don't worry. More than the pronunciation, it was an accent thing now that I watched that part again. Either way, I think is a really nice gesture to try and communicate in someone's native language. Keep up with your reviews. They're entertaining to watch. I take my time considering whether to sub to a channel or not, but I think this channel would deserve it.
The fact you can turn powers off is the sickest part to me. I want to rock the power suit, toggle, more concentrated beam? Turn off wave, single beam? Turn it off. I remember having to split saves and running games like metroid prime 2 and burning through the dark world and bugs just to try to get everything I could with the dark suit. The guy clearly knew how much control people wanted over the game. It's also the latest game I've seen in a long time give way to skilled platforming taking more priority than sheer backtracking. I forgot how early you get space jump so I took the megaman approach for no reason, missed a bunch of stuff and then got blasted by the boss. The only gripe I have is the ai for early metroid stages, they abuse collision damage and instead of properly fighting them I just fire a silo of missiles worthy of iron man's praise. This game has me spoiled real good.
It's sad that Nintendo is too stupid to do something like, oh, I don't know, hire the creator of AM2R and port the game onto an official Nintendo console? Like I could see it being released on the 3DS or something. Really when you pair this with the MOTHER 3 fan translation it really seems like Nintendo hates making money outside of Japan or something.
From what I've read about it, companies like Blizzard and Nintendo have to issue take downs or they lose legal footing in any future case. I like to think the reason Nintendo didn't shut him down at all during development was because they wanted him to make it, unlike Square who has been notorious for shutting down fan projects that are barely off the ground.
Metroid Fusion was crap and actually REGRESSED the 2D Metroid formula by having too many cutscenes and being far more linear than even the original Metroid 2. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Metroid Fusion was just a taste of what we'd get in Other M, and we all know that Other M is undoubtedly THE WORST METROID GAME EVER MADE. This guy's right when he said that Zero Mission perfected it (though Zero mission is still WAY too linear for my taste).
I beg to differ good sir. Just because Fusion was linear or had cutscenes doesn't make it a bad Metroid game. What about Prime 3? That's pretty linear too and had a bunch of cutscenes? Does that make it a bad Metroid game?
gamephreak5 Metroid fusion was a great improvement over Super metroid in terms of the controls and basicly set the bar for Zero Mission. You don't feel like your limited playing fusion after zero mission. but playing Super Metroid after zero mission or fusion makes you want to bite a pillow sometimes.
***** Exactly my thoughts. Super Metroid still is a fine game for what it established for the series and I do enjoy it, but after playing the sequels, I just cant go back
unova1995 Well I still managed once I wrapped my had around the fact that there are two sepperat buttons for aiming up and down and that there is no quick select for your secondaries. But it's not just the controls that bothred me, sometimes the level design was pure drunk. If you get to the wrecked ship without having collected the grapple beam before you either have to runn over a mile of spikes to get the gravity suit or you have to drop down to crateria again, search for the graple and walk all the way around like you had to the first time to get back to the ship. For ridley you have to go through an area that slowly fills up with lava when you first enter, and it stays there, so after defeating ridley you have to go through the room filled with lava again. If you haven't collected enough energy tanks by then, it's game over there.
Welp guess this is gonna get a follow up episode because Metroid Samus Returns, an official remake of Metroid II, was announced to come out on September 15th
+mrmajikjr When I announced the poll and read out the results in two separate videos, I mentioned in both that a ROR episode was already in the works and would come first. This was that ROR episode. Kirby will come next.
Howeva... I don't believe a GBC remake was planned "like Link's Awakening." I believe the story was, a number of classic GB games were in contest to be remade, and Links Awakening was the game that won. I think Super Mario Land 2 was also involved... so I've heard.
That was an awesome review, and you pretty much said everything about AM2R that I've thought; just much more concise and sensible than I ever could. Awesome job dude, consider me a new viewer :D.
So here is the logic.. "well they had 10 years to take it down and they didnt so why now" Soooo the idea behind that is your mad that they didnt halt the development of a game that you greatly enjoyed enough to make a video about beforehand? So you rather no game at all instead of a game? So nintendo lets a game develop for 8 years and then when its releases, waits a day and then takes it down and you take that as malicious? Yeah ok.. and before someone comes in uses the silly example of sonic mania.. I want to remind you that sega took down the street of rage remake and the funny thing is they close that down after 8 years of it up. You know what the worst part about this? Is that 90 percent people exhibit the EXACT reason had to be taken down. That is playing the blame game and admitting that you are never going to touch the original when there is a better FREE remake of it. (what do you think half the people will do after hearing you say that) You know the only person here who exhibit a love for series with no blame was the creator himself. He wasnt mad about it going away despite spending his blood sweat and tears on it for years, he didnt make the game as a disdain for the way nintendo treats the franchise and he is even tell people to go out and PLAY the original. So Why cant ya just celebrate it? dude even says "Please, don't hate Nintendo for all of this. It's their legal obligation to protect their IP." and what ya do.. hate on nintendo. Lets forget that literally its a series with two debatable bad games, lets forget that all the 2d metroids are classics(a rarity by any standards) and lets forget that when he embark on this task we received a brand new metroid game after. This game was not made to push the logic that ninentdo left the series in the grave.. It just came out at a time where there isnt metroid games being made(classic ones that is). Ya taken this as a opportunity to played the blame game instead of just respecting the wishes of the creator himself.
Sad part is you know Nintendo employees are playing this game right now. Never got past the beta versions. Too bad. should have downloaded the full version when I had the chance.
The full versions for both V1.0 and V1.1 can be found extremely easily for those who can be arsed to use Google. Also I don't doubt that a bunch of NoA and NoE employees are playing the game, but I bet NoJ doesn't even know the game exists.
NOA and NOE are very much the problem whenever Copyright is involved as it is never the main company they just leave it up to the divisions to keep the copyright by the Local Laws. I still think copyright helps no one and should be a removed as it does not work the way they advertise and allow FAR to many loopholes to be used in favor of the counterfeiters and copytrolls than the company or original owner and is FAR to strict on the owners to "Protect" the IP and seems to overlap way to much in the Trademark laws thus breaking them as well when those trademark laws actually make sense.
***** Yeah, from what I can tell NoJ really doesn't give a crap about that stuff. They seem to be less "corporate" and more about making art (games), if that makes sense. Nintendo's games do tend to be more artistic and generally more solidly made than others. I've not seen many glitches and performance issues in any Nintendo game, really, and they've all been pretty damn fun to play. Nintendo realizes that how fun a game is to play comes first and foremost, which means it has to be engaging and perform well with few glitches. That's not to say they've not made mistakes. /glares at Other M and Federation Force/
It's probably just me giving Nintendo WAY too much credit but there is a possibility that the reason Nintendo waited until after release to strike AM2R down despite the project being around for 8 years, thus giving them plenty of time to shut down the project before hand, may be because they wanted to let it get released before they shut it down knowing full and well that once the game was released onto the internet shutting down the download and project would do nothing to stop the game from circulating. Doing so would sort of be a win-win situation for Nintendo, they shut down the project thus protecting their intellectual property and fulfilling their legal obligations while at the same time they can keep an eye on fan response to AM2R as a means of judging interest in the franchise without needing to sink resources into a project of their own. Though again all of this is just my personal speculation.
also the graphics and maybe make it longer and make zero mission style graphics but from scratch so it's at a higher resolution. also maybe add cutscenes and for when samus is talking in the prologue use the voice from am2r who talks at the very end of am2r
I'm sorry, but Super Metroid doesn't need a remake in any way. The only feature I see missing from it that would be logical to put in would be grabbing ledges.. Everything else is fine as it is. The game's "graphics" are practically different, but give us very similar results. If the graphics of Zero Mission are fine, then these should be too. I'm pretty sure the Super Nes uses a much higher resolution than its Gameboy Advance counterpart already. The voice at the end is meant to act as sort of a trophy for finishing the game. Putting it at the front would only go by as being "neat", whilst not having it in the beginning and then having it at the end acts more or less like the whole "Samus was a girl all along" type reveal, since it surprises the audience with its presence. Cutscenes in full CG wouldn't quite fit the style of the side-scrollers of the series, and if you're talking about those narration things at the beginning, once for exposition is more than enough. Hell, Super Metroid has a feature that neither of those remakes had: Its own dedicated sprint button. To be honest, Super Metroid is long enough. If you want a longer game of Super Metroid, you're got Zero Mission and AM2R to play, as well as Fusion, for more of the same, but wrapped in a different package.
Great video! I agree that AM2R is awesome, though I only played early versions. I hope you will do another Metroid II video when Samus Returns comes out in a couple weeks to compare it to the other versions. I already have a pre-order on a copy of the special edition, and I will be buying the Amiibo two pack to go with it when I pick the game up. This being said, I will experience the game for myself the morning of September 15th, but I enjoy your videos and hope to see your thoughts on it within a few days to a week following the release. The other thing I wanted to ask you is, "Why do you not have a Remake or Rebreak video for Zero Mission?!" Yes, this video made your opinion of that game clear, but I would think that having such a high opinion of it would naturally lead to doing a video specifically about it. It would give you the chance to properly showcase the improvements over the original and to really evaluate the few shortcomings it actually had. You need to give it the attention it truly deserves and give it a proper video of its own. Anyways, thanks for the great videos! As a fellow Metroid fan, I hope you are supporting #OperationSamusReturns and getting the new game (especially since Nintendo has basically said that the future of 2D Metroid games depends almost solely on the success of this game). Thanks again!
... I'm downloading AM2R and I will be playing it soon! And Nintendo? Please, could you stop you copyright shenanigans and LISTEN? We want a Metroid game, like how we want it: A 2D sidescroller that continues the story after Metroid Fusion. I want this style seen again. WE people who enjoy Metroid games want to see this style of game again! So, STOP FAFFING AROUND LIKE A DRUNK GOOSE, NINTENDO, AND DO IT!!
Holy God you people are so whiney. Nintendo can and SHOULD keep up on their copyright practices. If they allow just one project to continue, they'd have to allow all of them. Once we get into that realm, we start losing what makes a character/game so iconic. Also, there's the problem of Metroid not being a that popular. It sells far fewer numbers than any other Nintendo IP. Hell, a single Mario game has sold more than the entire Metroid franchise has. Not to mention the last set of Metroid games sold such abysmal numbers, they see it as no interest. Nintendo is still a business. They'll do with their IP what they need to.
Nintendo has released a Metroid game. People expressed interest in learning more about the Federation Force, so Nintendo made a game. People don't want it because it's not Samus. Nintendo put up all the Metroid games digitally for people to have easy access to, yet they still complain Nintendo doesn't care. If they didn't care, you wouldn't even have the option to go through their eShop to play these games. They provide a means, yet people still don't find it good enough. It's a sense of entitlement that people feel they should always get what they want, regardless of the circumstances or consequences. Also, Nintendo is usually pretty secret about what they're doing. They may be making a Metroid game. They may not be. But it's ridiculous to say they hate their fans.
+f937r Nintendo should do what valve does Valve: oh neat, someone read made half life 2, Nintendo: someone remade Metriod 2, well let's get this son of a bitch down
22:17 it's actually a good thing that Nintendo waited until after the game was released to take it down. The developer was able to finish it, so it's still floating around out there, while also protecting their copyright.
I've been trying to convince Exo to do those for a while now. He just doesn't show any interest in it, nor does he have time to record roughly 150 hours of both games + the editing.
I completely agree with you. I'm a big Metroid fan and I had to beat Metroid 2 and let me tell you it was painful. This game is it's rightful replacement. I can't wait to play it.
Isn't 'sensor' a bit extream? I mean, he just basicly said you should play AM2R instead of the origanal. Isn't that why Nintendo brought the game down? That, and the game was changed a LOT. Yes it is better, but it's not the origanal. You can not get the origanal exeriance from this game. If you play the Android ports of one of the classic Sonic games, you still get the origanal exerance, just with slightly better controles, slightly better camra, and a few new fetures. You can not get the origal experance from AM2R. There is still reason to play the origanal. That and by saying 'replace' that gives Nintendo more reason to ban the game, therefor harming AM2R's already dire situation.
Look, I'm just trying keep the game's safety in mind here. AM2R is already in huge trouble because Nintendo thinks it replaces there game. Exo just said that AM2R does in fact replace the original in every possible way. If Exo just said remake, that would imply that there is still some reason to play the original, even if there is not a lot of reason. That would might make Nintendo less angry, because it shows them that there still reason to play there game and might be a bit more lenient. I understand Exo has his opinion, but I'm just saying that probably he should have been a bit more careful about vocalizing it, for AM2R's sake. But that's still to much to ask isn't it? Is it too much to ask for the legal safety of an amazing game?!
Agent 005 Nintendo became a milk Mario like there's no tomorrow, forget 90% of our mascots and franchises, and the occasional Zelda game. Pretty shitty company when you think about it
but you have the save the baby metroid! otherwise it'll just grow up to be just another oppressive shitlord like it's siblings and won't save you in super metroid.
I hate when people say stuff like that. I mean I'm 17 and get a kick out of some 80s and 90s games as well as some modern games, basically a bit of everything
As much as I've always been a fan of Castlevania, I've known for years that Metroid shared the same formula, but never really dove into it. I finished Fusion years ago, but that was it (not the best game to start lore-wise, but loved it anyway). I wanted to make a marathon and beat 1, 2 and Super to understand the story, but the first two games kind of threw me away from it in the first few minutes, so I decided I would play Zero Mission instead of 1, but I knew I'd stop at 2 anyway. Then, I stumbled upon AM2R very recently because of the uproar on Nintendo's takedown, and managed to get a copy of it on the internet. I can now say I've beaten Zero Mission, AM2R and Super, I'm completely in love with the series and it's all thanks to AM2R, DoctorM64 and the development team for making this game. Bless these guys!
Now kiss
I shall add my 2 Euros by saying this: That Metroid 2 remake? It's amazing so far. It's a shame Nintendo is rather stingy as usual, by hey. What can we do? The point is this: Thanks.
Thank YOU (and all the crew) for making such an AWESOME remake. Truly a masterpiece!
Your game will live forever in the internet! Thanks for all the hard work for this amazing game!
I was completely blown away by this game. It doesn't feel like a fan project at all... it's so faithful to everything that the series is and Nintendo should be downright embarrassed that they haven't come up with something good since Zero Mission.
Maybe they _were_ embarrassed and that's why they took it down. :^)
***** Yeah, you're right. I forget that Prime 3 was after ZM.
What was good about Corruption? :v
(Serious question, though.)
moozooh As far as I remember about Corruption (it's been a while), my only real gripe with it is the disjointed world world which goes against a core bit of design that makes metroidvania titles so interesting: the large inter-connected world
ingeniousclown Gaming
To be honest that's one reason I consider it a Metroid in name only. It felt more like a Halo game or something like that, with unnecessary motion control gimmicks and some Metroid elements forced in. It's still a beautiful, well-made game, but as a Metroid it fails completely imo.
Maybe you should do a comparison video between Metroid II, and it's official remake on the 3DS, Samus Returns!
Yeah, that would be cool!
TMX1138 would be interessting
Samus returns is amazing. I love it!
I've never played samus returns, should I?
Giga Waifu yeah you should

Here's an idea for Nintendo: Ahem
HIRE PEOPLE THAT MAKE GAMES LIKE THAT. THEY WOULD MAKE YOUR GAMES GREAT AGAIN.
or you know continue to lose profits and third party support and creative ideas
Man, laws are fucking confusing.
That actually clears a lot up for me. Regrettably, I'm one of the people who suggested that Nintendo never acted because they wanted people to play the game. Hindsight is 20/20. It does seem kind of dumb now that I think about it.
THANK YOU EXO A REPLACE WAS WHAT I EXPECTED THANK YOU
Too bad Aaron Weber felt like working with SEGA and not Nintendo. Seriously he's done an amazing job at teaching SEGA what the fans want.
I did notice there was a different number when you're paused, but it's not labelled in a way that you can discern what it means, you know?
in the original metroid 2, if you pause the game in an area, you can see how many metroid are left in an area
I was in this video. And you did good

I hate the fact Nintendo took it down.
You and the Game Mavericks should do a lets play on this Mega Man fan game called Mega Man Triple Threat its really fun fun fun fun FUN and WORTH CHECKING OUT
Nintendo are just a bunch of assholes in my opinion, as you said they had years to take this game down and only just decided we need to can this game
I wouldn't be so upset with Nintendo taking this game down if only they had actually fucking cared to remake their own outdated game themselves.
13:05 Nihonjin = japanese people, nihongo = japanese language.

Loved the video, REALLY nice job!

Really good taste

Will you do metroid 2 vs metroid samus returns?
I guess it's just an argument to try and criticize Nintendo, because they are actually mad at the game being removed. You are completely right.
"He's doing something illegal, but we'll wait for him to waste more of his time until we do something about it."
Doesn't that kinda sound like a dick move? If they truly cared about their brand then why not contact him as soon as he started releasing beta versions?
joe shmo More like, "We're fine with him making this game, but in order to protect our IP in the future, we'll take down the file after it's been put out for the internet to spread."
Note that they didn't C&D the project, nobody's time was wasted, you can still get the game if you wish to. If you really think Nintendo waited until the game released just to spite Docm64, I don't know if there's any helping you.
"...And consider making a new proper metroid installment"

@Bulb66 I feel like when Nintendo announced MP4, they probably never started making it yet, and only finished the announcement, so maybe they are offering the best graphics or something.

She kills them, and then reports to Adam that they are "Zebesians."
Space Pirates may have been called that back when the first few games were released in the 80's or 90's, but the Prime Trilogy and the Zero Mission Manga (which is canon) established that the Space Pirates aren't natives of Planet Zebes; they took the planet over after they exterminated the original Chozo inhabitants.
I wonder if he'll redo this episode for this episode for the new Metroid: Samus Returns
a 2.5 metroid game for the 3ds would have been better then federation force
I know right, Nintendon't should have just taken the rights to AM2R and ported it to the DS
I know :(
you think one of the dumbest companies around would do something smart? ya right.
+Hacker X The steam powered Nintendo seven with wax cylinders was my favourite console too...
Do another episode on Samus Returns when that releases!
5:50 I loved the ambient tracks.
I found a download and the file for it was titled "Fuck You Nintendo". Glorious.
Give us the link!
Believe it or not, yeah. It's true. Can't be bothered to search for a link right now, I'm eating breakfast here.
HAH! Awesome
Yeah, screw Nintendo for taking down a game that is a flagrant copyright!
+Dracomut
Yup.
You don't have to protect copyright. Read XPG's comment at the top of the comment section. Ninty is just being a bag of dicks, Sega doesn't take down their fans works of art, they *HIRE THEM AND MAKE MONEY.*
Samus Returns seems like the biggest reason why AM2R was taken down.
I'm not mad with Nintendo because of this game, the legal team thought that they should complain to protect their intellectual property and prevent it from becoming public domain (in the legal aspect, if you don't claim something, you loose the exclusive right in the future).
The legal action that took Nintendo was the less harmful to the community (at least this time, I cannot say the same with the remake of Super Mario 64):
They didn't stopped DoctorM64 until the game was already released, and that was just a protocol act because we can still download the game and played. Nintendo didn't stopped DoctorM64 from doing the game nor us from playing it.
Another point is that they didn't send a letter of cease and desist, that means that DoctorM64 can still update the game without legal repercussion.
Rebels 915 Followers 2
welp, another one of these will be needed in a few months. metroid: samus returns vs metroid II: return of samus
*
I want to make a game called
Another Metroid samus returns again remake
*
One of the upgrades will be a
BOWL BALL.
Where you can speed run,
and then turn into
BOWLING BALL
There are so many games me and you have grown up with but for me alot of them do not hold up and most of the aged games i've sold or still keep but never play them (because they have almost no value),
If a game has better control and presentation while keeping the challenge or making it harder still intact then im ok with that in AM2R.
I would beg to differ, it adds on to the original game and goes abit further than metroids only being the boss only.
Now you gotta do Samus returns.
Remake or Rebreak: The original Metroid vs Metroid Zero Mission. This is definetly one I wanna see in the future.
I just loved this. A review made from the heart, just as this game. You've won another subscription :) .
Thanks, Fam. :)
I scrolled forever and didn't find anyone else mentioning this: at 16:52 , you are incorrect: in the original Metroid 2, you can see the counter of how many "Metroids are left in the area/before making the lava drop" by pausing the game which makes the counter toggle between current area/whole game.
Hey EPG, what's your opinion on Samus Returns and how does it hold up against AM2R?
AM2R's graphics are plenty good enough, and sometimes too high graphics can actually ruin the fun when you emphasize them over gameplay. I think AM2R did exactly what it needed to, no more, no less. Samus Returns is.... eh. I don't know something about it just didn't..... "grab" me, I didn't bother buying it.
Samus Returns is just too cartoonish for my taste. The style of AM2R suits the ambience of the series much better.
^^This. I didn't really like the aesthetic of Samus Returns to be honest.
Based on some tweets I’ve seen he’s not a big fan. Having found 100%ing the game annoying.
He also called 2017 “one of the most disappointing years in gaming”
While it was a dick move on Nintendo's part, now we see why they did it though.
You should make a remake or rebreak of Pokemon Red/Blue vs Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen.
This.
He doesn't care about RPGs
We all know it's a replace
Replace? Hell to the no
You deserve a TV Tropes page.
He doesn't have one? He deserves it then.
Haedox deserves a personal spot in the deepest recesses of HELL!
Gilbert I already said that I'm fine with you liking someone I don't.
And an All the Tropes page.
No not all the tropes. All the tropes is just a rip off of TvTropes
If the big-wigs at Nintendo had half a brain, they would release AM2R as a bonus unlockable game in samus returns. I think that would have made a lot of people happy and restored a lot of good faith in the community with them.
But that's just my 2 cents.
Think you're gonna have to _remake_ this video when Samus Returns comes out in September.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this! I love AM2R and it's great to see Metroid getting some love (since Nintendo isn't doing it). I haven't felt like this in a long time! It's so good! Much respect and I gotta check out you other videos. Cheers! :)
Now that Metroid Samus Returns for 3DS is on it's way I wonder hiw it will compare to AMR2
Y'know, I'm not even a fan of Super Metroid and AMR2 sounds amazing.
Anyone know the easiest way to download it?
Google is your friend!
Wesley Harrison I found a way, don't worry.
For those who still don't have it: Go to google. Search for AM2R. Enter the official website. Read the latest post, it gives you a link to a post on the official forum where they have the latest version. Enjoy.
He updated for the newer Version 1.1 that fixes a few unwanted bugs and glitches.
AM2R subreddit has a link called "How to get AM2R".
Perfect Review of both games, Very well made script you did there, and really good editing. Overall a great video and Game Review.
You got my like sir.
Quick question, will you do RoR for Metroid 2 and Metroid Samus Returns?
Milen Anessar i hope so
Guess what, Exo. AM2R is still in development. It recently hit ver 1.5.1
Excellent review. Very professional. Your Spanish receives a nod from me. Thank you
Will you be comparing AM2R with Samus Returns?
My first EPG video, I love it.
now they have with metroid samus returns
*
I could care less man.
I don't even like vode games.
This was the first time I saw one of your videos, and I was amazed that you cared enough to "try" to speak in spanish, I say "try" because you actually spoke pretty good, I´m mexican and I loved that you did that, excelent video! definitely checking out A2MR
Welp, this RoR is officially outdated.
I wouldn't say the best GB game nor Metroid but I agree with this. Maps are for babies
Following you for a while, just want to share my sincere appreciation for your brilliant work. Super-competent and humble, rare qualities to find in young gamers nowadays.
this game was so good I'mma crie T-T
It’s the The Second Reality Project Reloaded of the Metroid franchise: it is a “Replace”!!!
So with that that said, I’m sure a lot more of us than you think we’re waiting for Exo to make “ROR: The Second Reality Project Series (Original vs. Reloaded)” and predictably (but in a great way), it will get a “Replace” at the end.
21:39 "I can feel confident in saying that I will never play the Game Boy version again"
Yeah... about that...
am2r is in my opinion the best metroid game we have had since prime 1. just as good as prime 1 and super metroid. It just goes to show the fans know what nintendon't lmao
Let us also not forget that the game is also playable on an SNES with the Super Game Boy attachment and you can either play it in black and white or in color, plus that the game is also available on the Wii, Wii U, DS/DSI, and 3DS/2DS as well under the eShop/Virtual Console, +ExoParadigmGamer.
great game feels like Im playing zero mission with brand new story.AMAZING !!!
Great job!
I downloaded AM2R and love it
😃
For those wondering where the developer of AM2R is, he got a job at Moon Studios and is now a level designer for the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest.
This ought to be good. RIP AM2R. First Zelda 30th anniversary, now this. Screw Nintendo. They're only alive at this point because of their glorydays in the past.
+TBrizzle01
Yep...
It's true that they DMCA'd many links, but a quick google search and u'll find a dozen .
+thepuzzlemaster64 It's almost like Nintendo hasn't adapted away from a time where sales numbers and reviews were all they had.
+Left4Cake
It's not just Nintendo that doing it plenty of other triple A companies are (or at least were) doing it, such as: EA, Capcom, Activision, and Konami just to name a few.
True but Nintendo I think is the biggest offender. Thou this could be because they are the only console manufacturer that has this issue and thous it's easier to see.
We definitely have to see an episode of Remake or Rebreak with Metroid: Samus Returns.
Samus Returns was a greart game.
Your spanish was really funny to hear, but you did say everything clear and fine. So you got it bro. Hasta la proxima Mision!
Wait, the Mother 3 fanslation ran into legal troubles?
Also: legendsoflocalization.com/how-one-fan-translation-team-turned-official/
Adam Napolitano Samus Returns.
well until u got corrected...mostly, by Nintendo now since Metroid 2 remake is getting released soon. :P (and Prime 4)
Samus returns not made by the same person but still great
Um check your information bud...
Uhh so you're completely ignoring the existence of Metroid Fusion when speaking about perfectionizing the 2D Metroid formula? Shame on you!
But I thought Kirby's Adventure won the strawpoll? I'm all for any kind of review, but I'm confused here... I voted for Kirby...
+mrmajikjr When I announced the poll and read out the results in two separate videos, I mentioned in both that a ROR episode was already in the works and would come first. This was that ROR episode. Kirby will come next.
Well. Good Content is Good Content. I was just a little lost.
Yeah, no prob, Bob.
"well they had 10 years to take it down and they didnt so why now"
Soooo the idea behind that is your mad that they didnt halt the development of a game that you greatly enjoyed enough to make a video about beforehand? So you rather no game at all instead of a game? So nintendo lets a game develop for 8 years and then when its releases, waits a day and then takes it down and you take that as malicious? Yeah ok.. and before someone comes in uses the silly example of sonic mania.. I want to remind you that sega took down the street of rage remake and the funny thing is they close that down after 8 years of it up.
You know what the worst part about this? Is that 90 percent people exhibit the EXACT reason had to be taken down. That is playing the blame game and admitting that you are never going to touch the original when there is a better FREE remake of it. (what do you think half the people will do after hearing you say that)
You know the only person here who exhibit a love for series with no blame was the creator himself.
Ya taken this as a opportunity to played the blame game instead of just respecting the wishes of the creator himself.
this came out 2 minutes after haedoxs federation force review
Watch the end of the video and you'll see there's a reason for that.
Do a version with Samus return
This is the first review of any kind that I've seen of AM2R. Well done, Exo. I hope the timeliness of this video catapults your exposure.
Sad part is you know Nintendo employees are playing this game right now. Never got past the beta versions. Too bad. should have downloaded the full version when I had the chance.
I don't think its too late, you could probably find some downloads online somewhere
*****
Yeah, from what I can tell NoJ really doesn't give a crap about that stuff.
The Missing Link Are you still looking for it?
And of course now, you'll have to do an episode for Metroid: Samus Returns
This review literally brought tears to my eyes. Thanks so much and many special thanks to DoctorM64 for such dedication and love for what we love.

This is not a replace, this is a remake.
The experiences are so vastly different that quality is no longer a factor.
i wish nintendo didn't go so copyright crazy we would get a super metroid remake in the same way as mzm and am2r :(
Man do we even need a Super Metroid remake? That game has aged very well
i want a remake so the look of mother brain and the baby metroid from zero mission and am2r recreated from scratch for super metroid.
That's a really stupid reason to want a remake...
also the graphics and maybe make it longer and make zero mission style graphics but from scratch so it's at a higher resolution. also maybe add cutscenes and for when samus is talking in the prologue use the voice from am2r who talks at the very end of am2r
Cutscenes in full CG wouldn't quite fit the style of the side-scrollers of the series,
and if you're talking about those narration things at the beginning, once for exposition is more than enough.
Way to ignore everything I said aside from the first sentence. Good job, Josh.
+f937r Nintendo should do what valve does
Valve: oh neat, someone read made half life 2,
Nintendo: someone remade Metriod 2, well let's get this son of a bitch down
Nobody expressed intrest in Federation Force. The lore sure but not the shit game they released.
22:17 it's actually a good thing that Nintendo waited until after the game was released to take it down. The developer was able to finish it, so it's still floating around out there, while also protecting their copyright.
Remake or rebreak persona 4 vs persona 4 golden
I've been trying to convince Exo to do those for a while now. He just doesn't show any interest in it, nor does he have time to record roughly 150 hours of both games + the editing.
***** true
*****
Persona 4 Golden is one of my favorite games of all time.
***** it's my fav jrpg
+tj playsgame Really? We hadn't noticed.
I completely agree with you. I'm a big Metroid fan and I had to beat Metroid 2 and let me tell you it was painful. This game is it's rightful replacement. I can't wait to play it.
Yes. More more more. Thumbs up
I wouldn't be surprised if you made an ROR video of the Dead Space remake when it comes out.
You shouldn't of said replace... That's kinda a huge part of why Nintendo took it down...
You should have just said remake...
Why would you want him to censor his opinion? This is a review, he should say what he really feels.
Lanky macCrazyhair It's not extreme. At all. You are basically saying that Exo shouldn't what he wants to say because it "makes Nintendo angry".
This video is in complete without talking about the 3ds remake
i cant bring myself to kill the queen metroid in am2r because i feel like i will kill the metroid franchise for good :(
***** ;-;
Agent 005 Nintendo became a milk Mario like there's no tomorrow, forget 90% of our mascots and franchises, and the occasional Zelda game.
Pretty shitty company when you think about it
Agent 005 almost forgot about castlevania a game they shat all over and made Konami turn it into a shit show
okay either your last comment is not worded properly or you somehow believe Nintendo owned castlevania
but you have the save the baby metroid! otherwise it'll just grow up to be just another oppressive shitlord like it's siblings and won't save you in super metroid.
16:59 Do note that when you paused in the original, the counter changed to how many were left in the area.
How old are you? You kids wouldn't survive gaming in the 90's.
"Wahhhh. Metroid 2 is too hard." XD
JK. I jest. Don't get your Morph Balls in a tangle XD
I hate when people say stuff like that. I mean I'm 17 and get a kick out of some 80s and 90s games as well as some modern games, basically a bit of everything
Ron Michaels I hate it too. I was referencing a comment from Exo's Special Stages rant XD
The Side Quest Gamer I know. I think I saw it too
The special stages are poorly dsesigned, something like battle toads is fun.
I love your vids. I hope you keep doing reviews because you have unique and different perspective in videogames. Please fuck me.
I fucking love youtube comments
+Kevin Thompson You should be more careful you might get ass cancer from reading youtube comments
+Kevin Thompson he's right. i seent it.
If that's the way I go then so be it
Are you going to do one of these for Samus Returns?
