Please do a video redoing the insulation in the attic. After removing the old insulation, you can use spray foam in a can to close all the air gaps. There was a video on UA-cam called "Insulation 2.0" you can follow what they do in that. It will make a huge difference for energy costs and dust in the house.

I saved your video and I’m now sitting in the parking lot at Home Depot watching again to make a list of stuff to pick up. Thank you so much for showing in detail how to do this

Wow, glad you liked it and mostly inspired you to try the project yourself. Thank you for watching and hope your project turns out well.

I had the builder add 2 openings in my attic 22 1/2” x 54”, one in the garage and the other on the other side of the home (vaulted ceiling in the middle, otherwise no access). The one in my 3 car garage is near the door to the garage. I can pull down the stairs (purchased aluminum drop down stairs) even with the 3 cars in the garage. Ceiling height is 10’ 6”. The home uses trusses in the attic. I put down 3/4” plywood (scraps when the home was being built) about 1/3 of the size of the garage. I use this for tire and car parts storage.

Foam board insulation can also be cut with a hacksaw blade -- it still makes some dust but less than using a circular saw.

Surprisingly I didn't have no where near the mess I was anticipating using the circular saw. Thanks for watching

badass home improvement, how much insulation did you use? What is the r-value?

That foam board is R5 per inch , so it would be R30 in total with the 3 x sheets attached to the loft hatch , and not R60.

Your right my bad, I saw a 20 on the board and took it for the R value. Thank you and thanks for watching
