  • Hey everyone!
    Today we take the 1940 Farmall M and the International 990 haybine out to do its first full field under our ownership! There's plenty of hay to be made so lets get to it!

    Conner, u were definitely cutting some really good hay 👍🏻. It’s been a lot of hay rolled and bailed last two weeks. Conner enjoyed the video, your camera work was great. Happy 4, from Kentucky 😊.

    I like that cutter. So much more going on than what used to be done here in Norway. Here it was basically just a bar with finger knives like where you had the issue and that’s it until we got the forage harvesters and then disc cutters for round baling later on. I can tell you this, yours do one heck of a lot better job than anything we had when I was little. :) I hope you restore this one.

      @@pederb82 We also had the sickle bar mowers here in the states, that’s what came before the haybine. In fact I have one and dad has one, both IH’s. Neither work, I tried and failed to make one good one out of two.

      @@ThisOldFarm I actually think we still have the factory option for the Ferguson we had at the farm. :) It was mid mounted on the tractor and flipped up for transport. I can not recall it was ever used in my lifetime tho. And these days none of our working ferguson tractors are at the farm. No idea how it was done on the Buster 320. :)

    I really hope that is what the problem is , good IH haybine there but they don't like holes or mounds of dirt do they , or any cutter bar really we had a old one that went on 3 point and i use to hate mowing with that , the belts would slip if the conditions were not right and we have brash ground full of stones it would break knives for fun , we eventually got a drum mower such a difference , but love that one you have and on land like you have they do a great job , Never seen many like yours here in England UK perhaps they were not sold much here back then , we had a Farmall M too used it on the baler which was a IH 430 , any IH tractors or machinery were I think always quality stuff , made well and built to last

      @@jamesmarsh4957 The field it failed in is full of gopher mounds, which I’m assuming is what took it out even with how hard i tried to be cautious and raise it over the mounds. My dad has a disc mower, and that’s what finished cutting the field.

    Looking good. The old M and 990 work good together

      @@trockallen Yes they do! Wide front would be nice but it works fine too. Eventually once I have the 400 fixed up the 990 will probably run behind that. The M will probably be the rake tractor.

    Very good camera work with all the different angles and views. How far are the hayfields from the farm? It looks like you had to take your tractor on the road for a bit. Thanks for the video, hope you had a good 4th of July and the rains held off a bit so you could enjoy some fireworks. 🚜 👍

    I can barely remember mowing hay with a N.H. Haybine.. Our variety of Hay does not neeed to be conditioned,, so we now just run Disc mowers.........

    The hay was looking nice, Connor. Definitely do the maintenance and get that cutter bar back to 100%. At the speed that thing runs, having a bent cutter blade can do some serios damage if it starts hitting one of those guards.

    Need to find yourself a wide front so you're not smashing the freshly cut hay into the ground with the front wheels. I'll keep an eye out for ya!

    • @ThisOldFarm
      @ThisOldFarm  9 днів тому

      @@lukestrasser The goal would ideally be to get the 400 gas fixed up to then use that with the haybine. Being that has the wide front and has independent PTO. The M with the narrow front is good for hay raking once I better learn how to set up my rake.
