David making the alien and its egg process literally doesn't fit into the timeline. In the original Alien the Nostromo crew found that space jockey ship after it was there for 100s or 1,000s of years. The jockey was completely fossilized. How could have David made them and covenant is only like 20 years before Alien. Logic? Give me something here! It doesn't make sense!
Johnny 13 yeah as far as I remember dalas wasn't a scientist in fact the jockey couldn't be fossilised as the conditions of it's surroundings wouldn't cause a fossil to be created
Alight, it could also be some kind of space distortion or maybe they went through a black hole ect to create some kind of time lapse. But besides the age of the crash how would the eggs get on that ship? If the engineers never had the type of Aliens with face huggers or eggs? Still doesn't add up.
Im loving these movie reviews, even if i dont plan on watching the movie or im not even interested in it i like to watch these and listen to them while i play games or just seek commentary-type content to pass time. I do like Alien though i must say😉
Soliduz Znake lol I know, to be honest I like watching bad movies or b movies every now and then. They show you why you should appreciate really good movies more and how big of a difference the movies hold from one another. Sometimes its fun to just watch a bad movie, with a friend or bro and just turn off you brain and have fun or even so turn on your brain more and have fun critizing and making jokes about it together.
Minor detail but darth vader has always had an abundance of hoaky joke lines throughout the films- mostly can be attributed to Lucas' script writing: "apology accepted captain Needa" "Impressive, most Impressive", to which Luke says "you'll find i'm full of surprises" "we would be honoured if you would join us" when the betrayal at Bespin happens "I am altering the deal, pray I do not alter it further" "I find your lack of faith disturbing" etc. The cheesiness is real, and I love every bit of it
Actually the Engineers created the alien life cycle. Giger's Hieroglyph painting that wasn't used in ALIEN 1979 shows it and the engraving that Holloway stands in front of in Prometheus shows it with a type of face hugger on a promethean's face with the Xenomorph in the middle. David just restarts it all.
Ridley Scott doesnt hate the Xenomorph, he just never thought that was the directions the movies should go. In interviews Scott said that to him the natural sequel would be about the Space Jockey. He tried with Prometheus but people were not happy that there wasnt a Xenomorph. So he probably resents the pressure to make the Xenomorph the focus. Scott was already working on Covenant and was going to continue original plan as a sequel to Promerheua but then made a whole bunch of changes and it hurt this film.
Another thing I want to say; why hasnt anybody ever questioned the Engineer in Prometheus? We see the Engineer at the beginning and see that he has white to bluish skin and black eyes. We also see the suits they wear in Prometheus in entrances to the pilot chamber. However, if you look closely at the Engineer, that thing on his body is not a suit. Its literally part of his body and it looks different from those suits at the entrance. This engineer must be different from all the others.
I liked it. But you guys are spot on. Its awesome the first half until it hits that big twist where David does his thing and (thats awesome and all) but then it becomes alien again. with expendables.
So the Jesus engineer thing was cut and abandoned by Scott, (probably because he woke up and smelled the coffee), but then were back to square fucking one with "why are they mad at us?" But honestly, i would rather it be at square one than acknowledge "space Jesus" as canon.
I suppose so. In my opinion, even if there was a better explanation about how the xenomorph came to be, there would still be disappointment. Maybe that's the whole point of Prometheus and this movie, that the origins of things aren't always what they crack up to be.
Yeah, I thought so too. According to Qui-Gon in Episode 1, "They(midiclorians) continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force." I never really understood the hatred of midiclorians as, in the movie, are a separate entity from the Force itself.
I didn't know your channel did movie reviews, I looked at the thumbnail and I was like theirs no fucking way I'm gonna watch a hour and a half movie review "this is the longest UA-cam video I've ever watched" but once the spoilers banner went up and I literally lost track of the time and enjoyed it all the way through.. I felt like I was there with you guys in that room and of that reason alone I'll look at more movie reviews in the future. 👍👍👍
Would've been awesome if the xenomorph was created to kill Predators, I thought that was what the movie was going toward with the lush planet. The predators trap the aliens in their temple but the fuck wads would release them which causes a distress signal to be sent to the Predator. Idk just my thoughts
Clovie Pounders Huh, never watched AVP. That's even better. That's what Covenant should've been a surprise crossover since the last Predator reboot didn't do so well. Would've thrown people off. Oh well.
ya the only bad thing is the story of avp is during modern day, not the future. so it can't exist with the story of the prometheus, since aliens didn't exist during modern day... :)
I actually like this movie since I love most things to do with the Xenoverse, but the things that bugged me is as follows: 1. The leader of the expedition dying is a load of bullshit and I will tell you why: in real science, if a leader of the team does die, it's not a point to ever continue a expedition to begin with. They would obviously have to be drafted back into Earth, and by that logic their space ship should give signal to Earth to request for docking back into Earth. So to begin with, the movie should technically have saved the entire cast introduced into this one, and have another group of scientists in said rescue mission to follow with the movie's premises, since they would be the ones most eligible by scientific procedure to continue with the plot. 2. The planet which they have found is clearly a gas planet. The reason for it being a gas planet is that throughout this movie you clearly see the climatic shift of the planet is unstable, which means by regular scientific knowledge, no one should be able to even breathe in this planet, as even with oxygen it would be poisonous to a human's organ system. 3. There isn't a proper explanation for how the Xenomorph is even being created in the first place. The black liquid given and taken by David to create them, it requires better explanation by the movie or even a sequel to elaborate upon what genetic structure does it possess to allow it's microbes to shape a individual so much in gestation in order to become something close to a Xenomorph. The thing here is, even if by chemicals it'd be poisonous and virulent to a human being, it's still a dime and a dozen to kill all of a person's nutrients, re-shape them by gestation into completely different organ structures at such a quick pace, and also transform the fatty acids in a person into a living weapon to begin with. This is the bigger fault with the movie, as I desperately can't relate to a transcription of DNA in a human being not being explained as transforming him over to a Alzheimer state virulent parasitic creature like the Xenomorph, it'd require better explanation to begin with as to how that even is a factor into the Space Jockeys, since it clearly doesn't add much to your biological structure other than the obvious predator/prey enhancement you'd receive, but also transform your body into a dead state to your original lifeform and then force you into re-shaping into that insectoid looking creature. So again, it needs much better explanation other than that cliched psychotic mental explanation they like to use in so many horror movies, and then just leave it at that... fascination for the killer as a perfect weapon has been done to death, and that kinda sucks if they continue this idea onwards.
This seemed more like a 4 than a 6. Ripely Scott is pulling a George Lucas kinda. Someone should really tell this guy to stop every now and then. The lore is pretty fucked now because of this movie.
***SPOILERS**** David actually did not create the Alien first. In the official Alien Covenant novel, David shows Orem the classic egg we know from Alien and Aliens. He tells Orem that it is a ancient relic from the Engineers masterful works and that he had to euthenyze it because the creature inside the egg was too agressive and wasnt controllable. This paints the picture that David via his obsession is trying to emulate the engineers Alien and make it better and something he can control.
my theory is he will embed his ideology of creation into the queen... which will in turn boss everyone around and yadda yadda...as well as give it the bio mech look
Ridley Scott's Alien movies and James Cameron's Aliens are two different genres of movies. Ridley Scott is the slow paced Lovecraftian exploration, terrible revelation, apparent futility of human action; and James Cameron is the blast the bugs, survival horror, action flick. They will appeal to different audiences.
The thing that sucks about David being the creator... Is mostly that it's in an Alien movie. It would be a GREAT idea for a new franchise to have an android being responsible for creating weird monsters that kill humans, but in an Alien movie!? No, it ruins the mystery entirely.
The only other Alien movie I saw was Prometheus, when Steve says that the build ups and tropes aren't as predictable for non-fans he's wrong. I could almost set my watch by how predictable some of the actions were
"they answered the questions we did not ask" actually i kinda wanted some answers because i like to know more and derive my horror from logic and the unknoen at the same time like. even if you understand how these things work there will always be one that will ALWAYS break expectation and makes the unknown horrifying.
I'm so glad someone talked about the visual effects. Barely any reviews I've looked at covered this. The aliens (particularly during the birthing segments) looked... awful. People were laughing in my theatre at times where laughter wasn't supposed to be appropriate. I went in with low expectations, but this film was just bad. I didn't like Prometheus (also an incredible disappointment, but I was very excited for it), but at least all the creatures and things looked great.
SultanofSmash nobody in my theatre were laughing, they were watching the movie like any person would. the movie was fine but not 10/10. i personally found it a 8.5 out of ten by how good they made the aliens look savage and i did ignore the horror movie logic cause it was expected, i did like the design of the protomorph being a midway between human and neo.
Glad you enjoyed it more than I did. This film is a far cry from an 8.5 for me (I'd say probably half that score)--and much to my dismay, I consider it worse than Prometheus. There are very similar flaws throughout, but at least Prometheus was gorgeous to look at. This film... not as much, when it comes to the Aliens. Why are we okay with "horror movie logic" in a franchise that used to be smarter than that? The main characters in Alien and Aliens frequently make good choices and still often lose, and it's this battling against the odds that gets audiences invested in the characters. Nobody wants to root for completely moronic characters like the captain in Covenant or the scientists in Prometheus. Also, the moment where Michael Fassbender and the Alien raise their hands together had people giggling in my theatre. Completely ridiculous.
This Aliens: Covenant was always gonna be stunning to look at. Having Dariusz Wolski for cinematography again, smart move because he did good for Ridley Scott in Prometheus. The cast, if the director mixes well the cast, the director will get the best out of them. Ridley Scott is a very solid director with lots of great films under his belt. My big problem with Aliens: Covenant is the screenplay written by John Logan and Dante Harper. Aliens: Covenant needed a better plot from the start before filming. That where it falls so short. Using old ideas.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere how Scott doesn't care for what Cameron did in Aliens and the idea of the Queen and all that. He's been trying to do alien sequels for a long, long time now, and every time he either wrote out the queen or evolved the queen into a spore flower so that the lifecycle from the second movie was an exception, not what aliens actually were supposed to be. Xenos were more of a general type of undefined creature and not what people have come to know from decades of the franchise.
I assume Scott is thinking that audience is as dumb as his actors, i have no other explanation for this crappy B-movie because he breaks every rule set by prior movies when he wants to. Ridley Scott, the great Alien dictator ?
David reprogrammed the ship when Tennessee had it rebooted. Remember the line about it will back on in 8 bells. That was the poorly scripted part where you can assume David hacked the ship.
Hmm they tried too hard to rehash something for a new generation or whatever and didnt actually try to continue the Alien lore and try something new, they more or less was like...lets try to mix Prometheus and aliens to together but in a bad way.
Ended up here from the Alien: Isolation playthrough and just wanted to say I couldn’t agree more with Max’s overall assessment of this absolute turd of a film and the gross insult it is on all things Alien.
It's sad when you break down the core alien films as well as Prometheus /covenant there's only ever been three real stories to these movies. Alien and its various pseudoremakes (3, Prometheus and Covenant) and Then Aliens and Resurrection.
Ultraman52 nope but his wife LOVES the ponies. Steve & Kenny are whatever about the ponies & Simmons as well then we have Max. I won't say he hates it I think he just can't stand it. But I tweeted to them if they were gonna see it & they said yes in stream lmao and simmions was the only one excited to review it here.
Was I the only person that laughed my ass of when that one guy had the chest burster come out after looking into the fucking egg like a dumbass? Not cause the stupid dude died, but because the alien creature effect was awful and so was the look of the thing. I half expected it to put on a top hat and cane and do the Michigan Rag out to David playing the music on the flute.
Also, why is it a bad thing that we have answers? The force isnt completely "demistified" (thats a word now) through midiclorians, we still dont know jack about the force, we just know how people are connected to it. Possible consistency errors aside, I see nothing wrong with giving us answers
Guys, i hate to tell you this but they had guys in suits for the alien... and it looked good. And its really sad that they plastered CG all over it for no reason.
Actually, it's not a hate bonner for religion. It's a bonner FOR religion. Every scientist and sceptics are morrons who can't understand the glory of création. Every protagonnist use faith instaid of reason and survive...'hum...". Xenomorph are création, man are nothing compare to the true power of our creators who can bring life... or death. And because mankind killed God, now it's time to make ammend with a monster of our one creation. That's a fondamentalist religious view weirdly shape into an Alien movie... But it's so...out there and not main stream christiannity that everyone thought it was a jab at the church.
What happens IMO is that R.Scott is getting old and philosophical, like most old people turn to religion he is also doing something like that and he wanted to carry a way more human madness / genesis thing to the franchise.
whats really funny about this is how full of himself Ridley is... the only reason he did this is because he saw alien as becoming just another slasher flick... So he wanted to turn it into... something thought provoking? Dude thinks hes soooo good Hes trying way to hard. The only thing he got us thinking is what the fuck is wrong with him.
Wow! You consider Aliens to be of the greatest movies of all time? Then it must be easy for you to suspend disbelief even when ridiculous things happen on screen. The queen xenomorph used the elevator to go to the helicopter pad? Let that sink in. The xenomorph knew how to open the elevator doors, and thru jedi clairvoyance knew what floor ripley was on, then pushed the correct button to go to the correct floor, then patiently waited to be delivered to the correct floor? Seriously? But that's not all. They let Newt sleep in a room with 2 live facehuggers? Really? An elite fighting force surrendered their ammo while surrounded by hostile threats? On what planet would that ever happen. The over acting of Al Matthews as Sgt Apone? Sgt Apone was not meant to be comical like Bill Paxton's character. Sgt Apone was meant to be serious but his acting was so over the top that it was comical and ridiculous. James Cameron's Aliens was great when it first came out but it is a perfect example of a movie that doesn't age well. The original Alien is a timeless classic that ages well but Aliens becomes sillier with each passing year. If you really consider James Cameron's Aliens to be one of the best movies of all time then you must be really good at ignoring ridiculous things when you watch movies because Aliens is full of ridiculous things that seem sillier the older the movie gets. Aliens is heavily over rated. It's a ridiculous movie.
Jayfroc, you are right. My bad. I mean where else can you see a xenomorph use an elevator and all the other nonsensical things they do in Aliens? It's obviously a great movie. *sarcasm*
David making the alien and its egg process literally doesn't fit into the timeline. In the original Alien the Nostromo crew found that space jockey ship after it was there for 100s or 1,000s of years. The jockey was completely fossilized. And do you have the specifics of the surroundings in the Jockey Ship??
Johnny 13 maybe the ship was already there and David came on a different ship and put the eggs there
Im loving these movie reviews, even if i dont plan on watching the movie or im not even interested in it i like to watch these and listen to them while i play games or just seek commentary-type content to pass time. I do like Alien though i must say😉

steve I was 15 when this review came out and even I knew all these tropes and was not the only one that did, still a nice review tough
I'm so glad that the whole crew is allow to express themselves. YO KEEP THIS UP GUYS.
Ridley Scott is becoming the new George Lucas.
Minor detail but darth vader has always had an abundance of hoaky joke lines throughout the films- mostly can be attributed to Lucas' script writing:
"apology accepted captain Needa"
"Impressive, most Impressive", to which Luke says "you'll find i'm full of surprises"
"we would be honoured if you would join us" when the betrayal at Bespin happens
"I am altering the deal, pray I do not alter it further"
"I find your lack of faith disturbing"
etc. The cheesiness is real, and I love every bit of it
There are hundrets of reviews of Covenant, this is the best and the most in depth one thus far. Great stuff you guys.
That trope is called "the ol-switch-a-roo"
Actually the Engineers created the alien life cycle. Giger's Hieroglyph painting that wasn't used in ALIEN 1979 shows it and the engraving that Holloway stands in front of in Prometheus shows it with a type of face hugger on a promethean's face with the Xenomorph in the middle. David just restarts it all.
Ridley Scott doesnt hate the Xenomorph, he just never thought that was the directions the movies should go. In interviews Scott said that to him the natural sequel would be about the Space Jockey. Teaninja i mean it was good still, but very predictable.
That is true.
With that said, gotta rewatch Alien and Aliens.
Its been YEARS since Ive seen them, actually...
They are still some masterpiece films that cause dread and wonder. 10/10 for both. Then get progressively worse.
Another thing I want to say; why hasnt anybody ever questioned the Engineer in Prometheus? We see the Engineer at the beginning and see that he has white to bluish skin and black eyes. Its literally part of his body and it looks different from those suits at the entrance. This engineer must be different from all the others.
Poor Kenny, everytime he wants to say something everyone cuts him off and won't let him say his piece. Look at that frustrated body language : \
I wanted to feel trapped and scared like in the first aliens. That all. But I didn't.
zombiekiller2112 actually its more like a the engineer's planet that got turned into an alien planet by david and even then there arent many aliens
Not Alien related, but the reason Darth Vader made that choke pun is because he was a dad.
Can't wait to hear their review of Alien Romulus.
LOL simmons at the end "I can't wait for the next 4!"
Fassbender is to Alien what midichlorians are to Star Wars
In what way? How do you mean?
Because they took away the mystery of the lore. Instead of Aliens being this mystical force of nature their now just a product of same crazy Android.
Johnny 13
Pretty much
I suppose so. In my opinion, even if there was a better explanation about how the xenomorph came to be, there would still be disappointment. Maybe that's the whole point of Prometheus and this movie, that the origins of things aren't always what they crack up to be.

@@hotcoldman77 Compelling response. Must have taken all of your brain cells to formulate that idea -- which is probably why it took 7 years.
Anybody know which version Max prefers from the Original Alien movie? Theatrical or Director's Cut

I wonder if they will make David ashe in alien to bring it full circle because ashe is old and David ages
Yo max! New peelers for the background would be sweet
awesome, was waiting for this
What microphone did you guys use for this video?
I also found the main female lead to look like and act like the lead from Prometheus... It was like a weird budget version of Noomi Rapeace...
Could’ve sworn they did a video about Prometheus but I can’t find it. Guess I was wrong
OF COURSE YOU WERE WRONG
Honestly I can not wait to see them review the MLP movie BUT Jessica has to be there to review it as well lol
JeromeTelos is Max even a brony?
Ultraman52 nope but his wife LOVES the ponies. Steve & Kenny are whatever about the ponies & Simmons as well then we have Max. I won't say he hates it I think he just can't stand it. But I tweeted to them if they were gonna see it & they said yes in stream lmao and simmions was the only one excited to review it here.
Was I the only person that laughed my ass of when that one guy had the chest burster come out after looking into the fucking egg like a dumbass? Not cause the stupid dude died, but because the alien creature effect was awful and so was the look of the thing. I half expected it to put on a top hat and cane and do the Michigan Rag out to David playing the music on the flute.
haven't watched the movie yet but is the problem realy Ridley Scott or are the screenwriters just screwing it up?
Also, why is it a bad thing that we have answers? The force isnt completely "demistified" (thats a word now) through midiclorians, we still dont know jack about the force, we just know how people are connected to it.
Possible consistency errors aside, I see nothing wrong with giving us answers
I hope u guys saw Resident Evil Vendetta and hopefully do a review
Guys, i hate to tell you this but they had guys in suits for the alien... and it looked good. And its really sad that they plastered CG all over it for no reason.
was it hokey?
lol, max hung at alien queen. There is no alien queen in Alien 1 xD .
Kenny hardly has anything to say, and almost always gets ut off
Everything I've heard about this fucking movie kills me.
young simmons preaching!
The second half of the movie was predictable.
I liked Alien: Resurrection far more than Covenant
Actually, it's not a hate bonner for religion. It's a bonner FOR religion. Every scientist and sceptics are morrons who can't understand the glory of création. Every protagonnist use faith instaid of reason and survive...'hum...". Xenomorph are création, man are nothing compare to the true power of our creators who can bring life... or death. And because mankind killed God, now it's time to make ammend with a monster of our one creation.
That's a fondamentalist religious view weirdly shape into an Alien movie...
But it's so...out there and not main stream christiannity that everyone thought it was a jab at the church.
Ah i was waiting for this one... there has been some polarizing opinions on this one dood ( "it's not aliens", "check the lore"....)
poor out of focus kenney
Wait, what are tou guys talking about? We literally got NO ANSWERS. They could have at least answered what was set up in last one
Yeah this movie wasn't good, like at all
Alien Covenant like Prometheus is better on the second viewing.
This movie will do better than Prometheus because it is Prometheus with the Xenomorph in it.
love da fight channel but not without Terry&Ryu
YEAH. YEAHH. 21.
Covenant is the worst Alien movie yet.
What happens IMO is that R.Scott is getting old and philosophical, like most old people turn to religion he is also doing something like that and he wanted to carry a way more human madness / genesis thing to the franchise.
The reviews should not be as long as the actual movie....
whats really funny about this is how full of himself Ridley is... the only reason he did this is because he saw alien as becoming just another slasher flick... So he wanted to turn it into... something thought provoking? Dude thinks hes soooo good
Hes trying way to hard. The only thing he got us thinking is what the fuck is wrong with him.
Dear God, I want them to see TransFormers 😂😂😂😂😂 I need that review in my life
i dont get it Angryjoe shits on move 30proc of viewers disliked there they still shit on movie but everyone likes it . HOW.
Arnas Giriūnas AJ has a corrupted 'fanbase'. I should've just said viewerbase really. They are very inconsiderate.
De Selby Alien >>>>>>>>>> Aliens for sure
Salt
great comment. I like Aliens but it can't compete with the first one. As a dumb action movie, it's amazing tho.
Maybe that's his opinion? An opinion that I completely understand, as Aliens is my favorite movie of all time.
Jayfroc, you are right. My bad. I mean where else can you see a xenomorph use an elevator and all the other nonsensical things they do in Aliens? It's obviously a great movie. *sarcasm*
This movie was bad... Real bad.
