  • Welcome back fellow Adirondack explorers! This video is the finale of a 3 part series of what many consider the "quintessential Adirondack canoe trip" going from Long Lake to Tupper Lake via the Raquette River. This trip sees me set out mostly solo, except for 1 day with my father on Long Lake. The fishing was exquisite throughout the entire trip, with action almost every single day. There is a lot to see, so this video covers Days 6, 7 and 8.

      I really hope to return this year with a little less wind so I can check out more of the fishing action on the rest of the lake.

      @@DaxWoodsWanderer yeah those big open lakes are prone to wind. But when you can catch them calm they are glorious.

    You make excellent videos. Every time I watch one I start planning my spring camping trip. We go to some of the same places so if I see you on the water I'll swing by to say hello.

      I really appreciate the kind words, and I hope you do swing by! I will be out a lot this year for sure, between guiding and recreational trips I will be in the woods more than I am home.

    My first video of yours and perfect place to be. Love Tupper lake area! A friend told me about you and I'm glad he did. Nothing like the call of a loon or two. Magical sounds.

    Great trip! What a hog of a Bass! I’m still tasting that Walleye from video 2 though! I feel the same about having Loons to listen to. I didn’t start paddling the Adirondacks until 3 years ago and listening to Loons on my very first trip has me hooked to trying to find them on every trip. I need to get out solo this year. Can’t wait to do this one some day. I hate wind too. These light boats make it hairier and such a relief when you get to your destination. Thanks for taking me along for the ride! Jeff

    Loved the video. Picked up my boat last week and can't wait for my first ADK canoe trip this year!

      One of my favorite parts of a trip is definitely laying back in my tent or lean-to reading a book full of Adirondacks history and lore.

    Another great series Jay. I've done that trip once a few years ago and Long Lake to Axton a few times and even did a reverse from Axton to Long lake that was an adventure, Lol. I definitely understand the allure of being alone in the wilderness. I worked as a wilderness guide in Montana in the early 80s and ran a sheep camp outside of Yellowstone. It was a 4hr horse ride to the base camp and I would be there for usually 45 days with 25 to 30 being alone between hunters. Camp was on a Alpine lake and there were 5 others within a mile from camp all with different types of trout.

    • @DaxWoodsWanderer
      @DaxWoodsWanderer  Рік тому

      It is a really great route! I definitely want to make it a yearly thing, its just too fun of a trip. I bet that alpine trout fishing had to be amazing!

    I think that's Mt Arab with the tower on it. It's part of the Tupper Lake Triad challenge. I've done it twice, once in summer and winter. Another great video, lil buddy 🤘

    • @DaxWoodsWanderer
      @DaxWoodsWanderer  Рік тому +1

      It is definitely close by, but too far west of where I was to be the mountain I was facing. I was facing the southern end of the lake from Raquette Pond. Arab looks like a great hike though!

    Many towns/communities/counties have historical societies that you might try and contact for specific information. Even regional DEC offices might put you in touch with locals who could answer your questions

    Great videos again. I've been on Long Lake many times, but never that far on Raquette River and Tupper Lake, so was very informative. Great fishing! How was the motor boat traffic on Tupper? Much of a nuisance?

      @DaxWoods Wanderer so on a trip like this, how many batteries and memory cards do you bring? Quality is really good so I'm assuming you're filming at max quality? Again I'm not looking to do youtube our anything just documenting our trip

    • @DaxWoodsWanderer
      @DaxWoodsWanderer  Рік тому

      @@LostBoysMotorsports I bring along 3 battery packs so I can keep everything charged and 4 GoPro batteries. I do not film at the MAX 4K quality but actually 2.7K. How much memory card I fill up totally depends on the trip. A full week long trip like this though can easy eat up two 256GB cards. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free ask!

    Hey Jay, would you recommend the zoleo? Or is there a better one you would have gone with in hindsight?

    • @DaxWoodsWanderer
      @DaxWoodsWanderer  Рік тому +1

      I really like the Zoleo, I use the features pretty often and it has worked great for me as far as weather, maps and being able to check in. The real only downside I can say is that it needs to connect to your phone to use any of those features. So if your battery dies, it could leave you in a sticky spot. You are still able to send an SOS and basic check in without your phone though.

    • @StonedFishing315
      @StonedFishing315 Рік тому

      @DaxWoods Wanderer nice! I purchased a battery bank and a solar panel so the phone being charged shouldn't be an issue, so it sounds perfect! I appreciate the response!!!
