If you look where the 3 top hat bolts are you will see 2 plugs that are body color. If you remove those you can get to the 2 13mm nuts that hold the strut mount to the top hat. Then remove sway bar link and the lower bolt of the strut. Then remove strut assembly without even touching your pinch bolt of anything
Also make sure if you are removing the front top hat off STOCK suspension / Springs and Struts - USE A SPRING Compressor!!
Good call! Those things are holding a lot of tension

I've got solo works on my b5s4 as well and couldn't be happier and not to mention that I had made a wrong turn while leaving a meet with the rest of the pack and while on the freeway hit a curb about 80ish and got some air. Of course the first thing I thought of was the oil/trans pan and then the coilovers hoping I didn't blow any out but the entire suspension components were good so that was one less thing that I had repair from that wrong turn freeway outing
Yeah they are great coilovers for the money and wow did you get lucky on that bump. Happy to hear the car was good
@@CIPGAS I did get substantial damage to the underside of my car like both oil pans broke the trans pan inverted all four of my nice light weight rims bent luckily not broke subframe damage motor mounts broke swaybar bushing and the cup they sit in squished out and a few other little things
You aren't wrong, that pinch bolt is a swine!! The head snapped on mine, had to take the whole lot off to get it out.(looking forward to doing the other side! :-/) haha.
Hahahahaha that bolt is literally the stuff of nightmares. I had to replace not my uprights because of the bolts seizing in them
This video gave me much more information than just a coilover install I have a fwd a4 and I really would like to convert to quattro from the looks of it it may be easier than the internet is telling thanks for another awsome video

You can't covert it to quattro. You would need to remove the entire rear floor as they are both different. Better of getting a quattro car or just loving the fwd

Also I was able to install the front coilovers on my b5 a4 without removing the control arm bolts/tri-y mount at the top, just gotta take off those little painted plastic covers holding the strut nuts to the body mount
Very true! IDK why but I just alway take it out. Maybe it’s cause I like to inspect things while I’m in there.
@@CIPGAS honestly getting the grommets off is really difficult, it has seam sealer on the underside and even has a tight double lip already securing it to the metal! But its possible and ultimately less to deal with. Most people will want to swap out bushings/arms anyways at this point
@@CIPGAS can appreciate the throughouness, I will be getting my coilovers on soon but i know from previous attempts that my pinch bolts are seized solid and won't come out. If you ever get the chance showing the method mentioned above for changing them out would be amazing.

How did you find the Solowerks? I'm about to fit a brand new set on my B5 RS4.

Congrats on the b5 RS4!
I honestly loved the solowerks while I ja them. They were comfortable and handled just fine. But once I upgraded I could definitely feel a difference in the more expensive suspension. I still would highly recommended solowerks if you’re not looking for something to take on the track.
Good to know there is another Australian with a B5, was starting to feel like the only one in the country driving one haha. I never see them. 😂
Do coilovers for an S4 still fit a regular b5?
They will fit just fine but the S4 coilovers have a stiffer spring rate to compensate for the heavier motor up front
