Nicole, please encourage Steve to set up a go fund me page…I know there are people out there like me that would love to donate to his seed machine or what ever else he needs to get this thing going!
It would be fascinating if Sunflower Steve documented all the in's and outs of how to set up a seed production company. He definitely needs his own UA-cam channel. He could probably encourage many others to venture into this realm.
I stopped the blog midway to go visit Steve’s Instagram page. What a treat I was in for! An explosion of colors in all shades and shapes. And he has such a gorgeous family. Lots of Love Steve.
Two of my favorite flower farmers I follow! Thank you for encouraging Steve and introducing him and his amazing sunflowers to the world! I was able to donate in his first VGF sale and grew some of his beautiful sunflowers. Cannot wait for the new sale coming soon!
Nichole. I see people asking you to tell SF Steve, this and that. The ideas, I haven't read them all, may be great, I have no idea. Gosh this got a little long. You can probably get the idea w/o reading the entire thing. Thank you Nichol for dragging SFS into the light, for us to see and try to get to know. I am interested in what he has to produce, but I absolutely hunger for these kind of amazing American origin stories, especially related to growing flowers, building a life out of it, around it. Makes my heart burst for my fellow American man, 2 things I live most, America and flowers, well 3, America's men too, without them where would we be? I want to see great success for SFS. You introduced us to him, Nichol, I thank you so very much for seeing all the great possibilities, for you, for him, for us. It was genius, and obviously you had to put some good effort in to get him to ever show his face to us through your channel. Bravo, well done. My idea has to do with a UA-cam channel. SFS, obviously does not want to do a UA-cam channel, he seems a little camera shy, or uninterested in the work involved in production, editing, the time and effort involved....I cannot know his hesitation, I don't know him. Think about Lisa Mason Ziegler's Seed talk podcast. Layne, the seed manager asks her questions, in an interview format, Laybe has produced a power point of the subject or a background. Lisa can talk on about the aspects of that question or keep it short. The questions are from their customers. He can ask anyone in his family if they are interested, they can do whatever format they want. I personally would like to hear the origin stories 1st, long in depth, many rabbit holes etc. I love that stuff. Then on to farming practices, things he probably thinks are absolutely mundane, known to all walks of life. He has had his head down for so long, working so hard season after season, and had no idea all this time he had people, American, and from around the world, not just interested, but very giddy excited about his work, what he has produced, and his life too. His work is what brings us to his door knocking wanting to know more. Personally, without knowing him, I think he is uncomfortable, infront of the camera, he values his privacy, he doesn't think he has enough interesting to share, probably doesn't think it is worth it. He has a pool of talent, I'll bet there is one in his family, or a friend of the family, who would jump at the opportunity to practice, learn video production, while simultaneously helping SFS grow his business. I'd say if I were in his shoes, ask the kids, if they don't want to do it, get them to ask some of their friends. Heck, ask in the local news paper, he might get some looney toons, he might get lucky with a communications grad student, full of energy and ideas SFS is hip to try. Inlist the family to help search, get a contract to protect himself, contract for 3 months, if it is going well, continue the contract, if not, change everything completely, or just tweek it a little. Go another 3 months, 1 video a week, continue, only if SFS is happy with the results. Keep a trusted group, family, fellow growers, like Nichol, to give feedback, privately. Use some of the Go Fund Me money, someone suggested, to pay for an attorney to protect his interests. I am certain I will eat up any content, SFS produces. He can sell his merch there too, and if he only wants to do it for 6 months, a year, and be done with it, so be it. Or he may want to let it evolve, he can reassess every day, every couple of weeks, every month, 3 months.... There is potential in UA-cam for SFS. UA-cam is out of SFS's comfort zone, I get that, really. A YT channel doesn't have to rely solely on him dressing up or acting, to produce something that we all want to connect with. Keep it simple to start. Thanks again Nichol for introducing us to SFS.
I invested in Steve and his sunflowers last year primarily to support his mission/cause. Delighted he sent the second packet as promised! But will be ordering more this year. Bringing Van Gogh to Idaho solely for benefiting non-profits here…keeping “first fruits” forward!
I’m so happy for Steve and his new adventures ! Thank you Nicole for introducing him to the world ! ❤ I cannot wait to plant his seeds in my garden , what an exciting time to be a gardener ! I hope to see you at the nursery ❤this summer 😊🌻❤️
Steve your journey is such a Godincidence that it makes my heart happy. Can’t wait to see where this journey continues to go and the blessing yet to come.
I enjoyed this so much! I love you both and am so happy about your success! Nicole, I've been following you before you even hit 1,000 subscribers. Sunflower Steve is also from Wisconsin and we are proud of him. We really enjoyed growing your sunflowers last summer and eagerly awaited each one as they opened. However, we are glad to be in southern Wisconsin with much less snow!
Everybody is gushing over Steve, totally justified, but this video really highlights kismet moments that could have just been over looked but Steve took that faith and left towards it without second guessing. That's the first thing I took from this video. But the major thing so many people over look is how kind and how fuel nourishing Nicole is. He joked about royalty checks, but truly, she was connected. She motivated. She gave her platform to him. That's going BEYOND. Whether she expects or gets anything from Steve is between them and honestly I don't think should be discussed, cause it just weirdly tarnished the relationship we the public see. But she, Nicole, should know how much of a light and lifesaver she really is for him, us, her town, her own life. She leads by example. And that's beyond inspiring. Hope that makes sense. Lol. Really charming video. Sunflower Steve, may he his company and his family continue being blessed and keep surpassing those metric goals.
💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻 Hoping to get my hands on some Sunflower Steve seeds this year. Even if his flowers weren’t so spectacular, I’d want some just to support such a nice guy. Another commenter suggested he start a GoFundMe page to help finance his new equipment and I think that is an excellent idea. This community of flower growers/lovers is so kind and giving; many of us would gladly support him financially if a vehicle to do that was available. Thanks, Nicole, for bringing Steve back to your channel for an update. 🥰
Whenever I think of Sunflower Steve I think of my intro to him and his Voon-dee-bar beautiful unique sunnies I think of YOU Nicole and thank you for all you do and plan to do in your future! 💛🌻🌿
Bravo Erin Benzakein (aka Floret) for convincing Sunflower Steve to grow these on his own rather than taking them for her own successful business. The most quintessential way of supporting the gardening community.
Great video! Such helpful, kind people in the UA-cam/Instagram gardening community. I’ve learned so much from all of you. I wish you both all the success in the world!
Lucky St Pattys for me! Just scored at steve’s online sale which sold out IN TWO MINUTES! Whaaa? Can’t wait to get those seeds in my little garden.. while wearing my HAT! So hap!!!!
What a lovely chat! Great story! I love that his company name came from YOUR nickname for him. The passion from both of you is wonderful to watch. Best part is to see you taking your time to boost your friend in the biz. I can tell you're a kind person Nicole!
This is a year old, but I just pre-ordered 2 of his March 2024 ship VG packages. T shirts & toboggans sold out. 2nd year for us "flower farming". Beyond the dahlias I've done unofficially for years... with a greenhouse this year & starting planning in Oct 2023.
I haven't even got into details of video but I am so glad to see you both together again. Steve & Nicole your amazing 👏. I definitely feel like your relationship with Steve really started him off on UA-cam. I know Jess did his legacy sale story but I first learned of him because of you. I thank you because I was able to be part of the legacy sale and I got to see his beautiful flowers. Can't wait to order more! Cheers!
Yes, it is all because of Nichole that he is where he is at today. And she is so gracious! Nichole , you are the best. And if I were Steve, I would have came to see you personally too thank you for what you have done for me! We love you girl!
It was great to see the both of you in this video. I first learned about Sunflower Steve from you. I'm hoping to get a hold of some seeds on his next sale, just got my hat like the one you are wearing. I just love the both of you. 💚🌻
I love how you and Steve mentioned the flower growing community. You are encouraging us who plant a handful of this and that to think about new flowers and adding a few feet to the small gardens we have. Thanks!
Love the truth of the video re-do. My husband officiates weddings and true story...One couple had a very sweet short ceremony, less than 15 minutes and the videographer never hit the "record" button...so they did the ceremony over.... Thanks for the update! Always nice to hear what Steve is up to.
I’m so excited about this! I’m one of those non-cut flower gardeners and I cannot wait to have some of these amazing sunflowers growing with all my other flower babies in my yard 😊
Nicole so funny you say that about the nursery speaking to you every time you went by. This is how I felt when I would walk by the empty store next door to my flower shop, I kept seeing a bridal shop there and I just knew it was meant to be. I contacted the landlord about the shop and she waited 6 months for me to pray about it and make a decision. If she was willing to do this for me, and the prayers were answered, I knew it was the right thing for me to move forward with my dream. So now I am the glorious owner of a flower shop and bridal shop, it is A LOT of hard work, but so satisfying!! I wish you all the best and thanks for bringing us along on this journey, YOU ARE GOING TO ROCK THIS ADVENTURE!!!
I just learned about the Fantasy Mix and I'm too late trying to get seeds for it. I am hoping to find someone willing to trade or sell me some. I would love to see something that gorgeous growing up here. I'm just a Garden Blogger, not a huge grower. But our winters are brutal and long up here in Northern Maine and to be able to see this growing up here ...Would be sheer magic. If you or anyone can direct me in the right direction to get even a couple, I would be ever so grateful and blessed. I love your videos and tutorials. I am learning and thank you for this Vlog. Great interview with Steve, he seems like such a nice guy and yes very knowledgeable. Thank you both!!
Nicole, this is what we all need to see. I could not be happier for a person I've never met. I have followed along since the very 1st sunflower Steve video. I adore him he is so great. I am obsessed with hybridizing and breeding, So I love everything that hes doing. We are all just sitting here impatiently waiting for those seeds to drop and be available for everyone.
Hello, I live an hour away from you and have not yet stated my seeds!! lol. I might this weekend, I have been known to start them too soon and do not have a lot of room inside for them atm. So glad you were able to get time with Steve to do this video thanks for the update. Did receive my second pack of sunflowers a few weeks ago and it's killing me to not plant them:)
I would say that if Steve never responded to any videos and all of a sudden did…….I’s a god thing! Being guided in the right direction. I love these sunflowers!
I bought a Sunflower Steve winter hat and I've been wearing it every day since it came in the mail. I love how bright the logo is and that it's embroidered- it's my new favorite hat! 🌻
After Steve's last newsletter, I sent him a message about writing a "Cut Flower" book....he responded that he may, or may not have this in the works (or something along that line). So exciting to see how time changes your vision and path.
Wonderful to hear the catch up video, so excited for his journey and yours. So towards the end Steve mentioned books, I'm guessing by gardeners, would love a book list :)
You both are so fun AND yet so full of knowledge!! Bless you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. Can’t wait to get ahold of some of your seeds, Steve. And I would love to come visit your nursery once it is open, Nicole. It would be quite a road trip for us too, coming from San Antonio, TX, but I’d do it!!
we are first year farmers. Mainly a photography venue, and we just received our Van Gogh seeds!!! Can't wait to see them in all our pictures!! @almostafarmanddepot
Wow what a great video!! So excited for S.Steve. I just received my free seeds. LOVED my sunflowers last yr. I sold a few ..but honestly , I couldn't bring myself to take them to market. I needed to enjoy them myself!!!! I'm glad his camp got to plant so many trees and was happy to help! I will help with the barn also. Thx. for the update Nicole.
Yay Sunflower Steve is on his way in his new journey with seeds. I feel kind of guilty eating my roasted Sunflower Seeds now. Nahhh I'm over it. They are yummy! Hey- How does he keep the Squirrels away? I have a group of terrorists that hang out in my back yard just waiting for me to plant a seed! I told them "I'm going to call the Cops!" But they don't seem to care! I need a mean Dog!
I just love the sunflowers that I bought last year and I'm so glad that Steve is seeing such success! I'm also so proud of him doing his youth camp as well. What a great guy!
The variegated sunflowers are gorgeous! I would love to grow those in my personal garden. I love the foliage of plants. I think its important, because you have interest even before and after the actual flower. I personally look for variegated, red, blue and gold foliage.
I was wondering yesterday if it was about time to start Ranuncs! (Yes!) Gonna start mine right after I watch your video on them. You do such a great job with them.
The ones without pollen will produce, but they need the pollen off of one that has it. The only way you will get reliable seeds is by hand pollinating, but they won't produce nearly as many seeds as the others.
Its more than that. There is pollen, however, it is obscured by the petals on the face and it is difficult for it to get past the petals to get down to the face where the rest of the reproductive parts are.
He discusses that in this video. He is trying! There is a lot of complicated red tape for good reason when it comes to shipping plant material overseas!
Nicole, please encourage Steve to set up a go fund me page…I know there are people out there like me that would love to donate to his seed machine or what ever else he needs to get this thing going!
Yes! Me too.
Me too
Agreed, let me know if it happens. Would love to donate.

You are so lucky 🙏🏻 to have sunflower Steve as a flower friend 🌻🌻 Love the video ❤️

That unicorn sunflower is fantastic 😍🦄🌻
Stunning, isn’t it? Super unique & rare. Love it!
I invested in Steve and his sunflowers last year primarily to support his mission/cause. Delighted he sent the second packet as promised! But will be ordering more this year. Bringing Van Gogh to Idaho solely for benefiting non-profits here…keeping “first fruits” forward!
I never saw the purple foliage! So happy you guys have helped each other succeed!

Cool video! Sunflower Steve is terrific. I really appreciate how supportive the gardening community is of each other.
Love this. Flowers bring the best people together!
Nicole, Steve really needs to talk with Laura of Garden Answer. She is doing a Maze with Sunflowers for her Kiddos. Wouldn't that be something!
Whenever I think of Sunflower Steve I think of my intro to him and his Voon-dee-bar beautiful unique sunnies I think of YOU Nicole and thank you for all you do and plan to do in your future! 💛🌻🌿
Love the update! Wishing all my best during this transition period
(and for the unicorn flowers🦄🦄)!!
Bravo Erin Benzakein (aka Floret) for convincing Sunflower Steve to grow these on his own rather than taking them for her own successful business. The most quintessential way of supporting the gardening community.
Yay sunflower Steve,! So excited for your new seed selling adventure. Surprised flower hill farm talked you out of partnering with them.
Great video! Such helpful, kind people in the UA-cam/Instagram gardening community. I’ve learned so much from all of you. I wish you both all the success in the world!
I look forward to a day when we can buy Steve's seeds in England

@J GG totally agree ✋️. Not all heroes wear capes right?
Just a reminder of the bundle sale, 1/27/23 @ 9am cst. We want him to sale out!
I can’t wait to order your sunflower seeds!
It was great to see the both of you in this video. I first learned about Sunflower Steve from you. I'm hoping to get a hold of some seeds on his next sale, just got my hat like the one you are wearing. I just love the both of you. 💚🌻

i look forward to growing some of those double sunflowers and variegated and purple. . . . !!!!!
I wish you all the best and thanks for bringing us along on this journey, YOU ARE GOING TO ROCK THIS ADVENTURE!!!
Steve should talk to San Diego Seed Company. They are on UA-cam but they're a small seed company but so experienced.
Thanks for sharing Sunflower Steve with us. I can’t wait until he ships to Canada!
Me too! I can be patient, even if it takes a few years. 🇨🇦🌱
Wowsers....I'm in Australia.....I would love these seeds.....
Nicole, this is what we all need to see. It’s people believing in people; people helping another just because it’s a nice thing to do; it’s payoff for not giving up despite gigantic hurdles; it’s a lovely story. I’ve learned so much from you, but the reminder that helping out another person is more valuable than anything else. I wish both of your families nothing but the best!💗🌸💗🌸
would love to be able to buy some more sunflower steve merch! I can't wait to buy his seeds too
That was a great conversation.
Nice visit with Steve, Nicole. I have to think there’s some Divine intervention at play here for both of you. 😊💖🦋🕊🕊
Nice to heart from Steve on your y tube. Best wishes to both of you in 2023.
Hi Steve! Our customers loved your sunflowers ❤️
You two are awesome. You truly have to love the plant community. Looking forward to what comes next.
He's been on my mind, so thank you.
We love sunflowers Steve 😊🎉
I’m so happy for him, the little guy finally makes it! ❄️💚🙃
It is really great of you to introduce Steve to everyone! You get all the credit!!
Fun video! Nice to meet Steve and hear his story. Love your hat, Nicole!
I would say that if Steve never responded to any videos and all of a sudden did…….I’s a god thing! Being guided in the right direction. I love these sunflowers!
As a wisconsinite, I'd love to see that field in bloom!
OH, so great to hear Steve's story, this is what dreams are made of!!!
I bought a Sunflower Steve winter hat and I've been wearing it every day since it came in the mail. I love how bright the logo is and that it's embroidered- it's my new favorite hat! 🌻
❤
After watching you and Steve, I am sooooooo inspired to write a song about seeds!!! Can't wait to share with you both! 🌱🎶🎵
After Steve's last newsletter, I sent him a message about writing a "Cut Flower" book....he responded that he may, or may not have this in the works (or something along that line). So exciting to see how time changes your vision and path.
Title idea! My journey to becoming Sunflower Steve!
How wonderful to get that first hand look at Sunflower Steve! I signed up for his newsletter and am hoping I can snag some seeds this year!
I adore you both!
Wonderful to hear the catch up video, so excited for his journey and yours. So towards the end Steve mentioned books, I'm guessing by gardeners, would love a book list :)
A hold of seeds from Steve’s sunflowers
How do I get thease flowers?
You both are so fun AND yet so full of knowledge!! Bless you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us. Can’t wait to get ahold of some of your seeds, Steve. And I would love to come visit your nursery once it is open, Nicole. It would be quite a road trip for us too, coming from San Antonio, TX, but I’d do it!!
Great video, guys!
I surely hope Sunflower Steve makes a UA-cam channel. I would definitely be a subscriber. 🤞🏼
Best of luck to Steve with his venture. OMG! The unicorn one! 🤩🤩. Maybe one day we might somehow have them in Australia???
we are first year farmers. Mainly a photography venue, and we just received our Van Gogh seeds!!! Can't wait to see them in all our pictures!! @almostafarmanddepot
Thank you for asking for us 'foreigners' 😄We will wait (sort of) patiently!
His sunflowers are stunning!
You both are awesome.
LOVE THIS
totally met my socialization needs for the day.
I just love the sunflowers that I bought last year and I'm so glad that Steve is seeing such success! I'm also so proud of him doing his youth camp as well. What a great guy!
I just found your channel and I love your content!!! 🌻🌻🌻
I'd like to see Steve's family and friends do a UA-cam channel about the camp and the legacy forest.
The variegated sunflowers are gorgeous! I would love to grow those in my personal garden. I love the foliage of plants. I think its important, because you have interest even before and after the actual flower. I personally look for variegated, red, blue and gold foliage.
Loved this update. I follow him but it was fun to listen to you guys chat.
oooohhh I need that shirt Steve! LOL
Love Sunflower Steve!
I love these two accounts!
I just followed Steve on IG. I’m looking forward to ordering the Van Gogh seeds!
Can’t wait for Uk sales xxx
I'm so excited for both of you! Love the hats!
Love the fact that that you support each other! Nothing better!
Have you thought about shares? Something like a CSA share? It would be awesome to be able to help you get this going :)
I want some so badly but I live in Canada 😢😢WAH! I love sunflowers 🌻 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Same here. Hello 🇨🇦🌻
@@schindel6307 Hello! Live close to the border. Thinking about getting a post office box lol! Then I will probably get thrown in jail.🧐
I was wondering yesterday if it was about time to start Ranuncs! (Yes!)
Gonna start mine right after I watch your video on them. You do such a great job with them.
love his story
The ones without pollen will produce, but they need the pollen off of one that has it. The only way you will get reliable seeds is by hand pollinating, but they won't produce nearly as many seeds as the others.
Its more than that. There is pollen, however, it is obscured by the petals on the face and it is difficult for it to get past the petals to get down to the face where the rest of the reproductive parts are.
When are your viewers living in Europe able to buy Steves sunflowers seeds? Frustrated that we are missing out!
He discusses that in this video. He is trying! There is a lot of complicated red tape for good reason when it comes to shipping plant material overseas!
