- I adopted a cat and realized everything I thought I knew about them was wrong. In this video, I'm sharing my whole journey from the first week to what I've learned, and how Bepo is doing now.

my cat is 8 and we got her abt 3 months ago. she is a total love bug, she loves climbing on peoples laps, laying on your chest, her favorite part of the day is bud duh buh bummmmm FOOD! She is so soft and very sweet. she gives you little gestures if she just wants some love or affection.
I am an "older cat" so i relate to bepo! Long may he thrive! thank you for adopting him!

Part of the charm of cats is that you have to earn their love and trust; they’re not hardwired to please you like dogs are. So every moment they choose to snuggle with you or play with the toy you chose is special. Thanks for making sure Bepo has a loving home!

I'm so glad you gave Bepo a home! Senior cats (especially those with disabilities) usually are in the shelter for a long time, people are always looking for kittens which I can understand but senior cats are so much more chill!! You'll never have to deal with its rebellious teenage phase and just enjoy their chill calmness
Indeed, kittens & their antics are delightfully entertaining, fun, and heartwarming. As I myself age however, I am aware of my own ‘slowing down’ and heightened ‘chill’ desires. It now seems an older kitty and I could do well together……and we can watch videos of crazy kittens :)) This is the first time in 34 years I have not had a pair of kitties ~~ New Year 2024 seems primed for new feline home-buddies 😻
It's the same with dogs. Some people are treating their pets like fast fashion once the pets are old/sick/disabled or the people are too busy for pets. Many pets aren't going to stay cute forever.
You also don’t have to nail everything in the house down or pack up all your good dishes and breakable art, hide your jewelry, remember to not leave knives or anything else he could hurt himself with and, by the way, if you have blinds with hanging chords keep them securely coiled up and out of reach of your cat. They can easily get hung up while jumping down or playing with them, etc. Just happen to a friend. She lost her sweet boi-cat.
Anyway, senior cats are GREAT cats to have.
It’s no surprise why Bepo chose you, you are a super adorable human that just radiates positive energy!

I recommend you get him a wider and shallow bowl for him to eat from because of his whiskers (cats prefer to not have their whiskers touching the bowl when eating) So happy you adopted and gave him a home

I've loved and owned cats most of my 85 years. This is the best 'adopt a cat' video I've seen. Actually one of the best CAT VIDEOS on the web. Love you for your quick understanding of your Beppo's needs and likes. You are an excellent cat mom!
My heart just melts when I see things like this. I adopted a cat from a shelter in similar circumstances. She came from a hoarder house and is blind in one eye. I fell so in love with her that I just couldn't even fathom leaving without her.

One tip: since Bepo is a semi-long haired cat, you really need to make sure you brush him regularly so he doesn’t get all matted, it also slightly helps the inevitable cat fur all over everything :)
agree! i would even recommend maybe going to a cat groomer every now and then to get his booty hairs shaved. easier to avoid him getting poopy butt if he has shorter hair.
If you buy a baby hair trimmer (they make less noise) it's not too bad shaving back there real quick. I do my longhaired girl every few months with very minimal fuss if I don't take too long. @@peenprincess
Agreed - especially as they get older and groom themselves less! I kept my cat's brush in the bathroom since he always liked hanging out with me in there when I'm on the golden throne. That way I always made time to brush him every day and he stopped getting matts. RIP my long-haired soul kitty.

when bepo "massages" you i've been told that it means he thinks of you as like a mother figure because thats what kittens do to get milk from their mom...its really adorable
cats knead when theyre relaxed/happy and to spread their scent since their paw pads have scent glands!
Kneading and the motor going 100mph is normal for a happy feline
Bepo definitely knew she was The One and made sure to get his scent all on her and show her that he will love her unconditionally. Sometimes it isn't that the people didn't pick Bepo but rather he wasn't really all that impressed with them and didn't do the affectionate display like at the beginning of the vid when she met him. I'm so glad Bepo has a loving home to live out his golden years!

I have had much experience with cats. And they do think of you as thier child and them there parent! I have an older cat. And I love her so so much. She is always in my lap or laying next to me or "cleaning" me. She has always been by my side and helped me through tough times. I dred the day of losing my sweet Sofie, but enjoy every minute I have with her. Cats are the best. I like dogs as well I just can't have one here! Thank you for saving Beppo! High regards. It’s not always that someone is blind and uncaring. Don’t assume bad things about people. A lot of people need a pet that they have a chance of having a longer time with, and even though it’s never guaranteed that they won’t get sick along the way, not everyone can take on the true emotional challenge of adopting elder animals. We should encourage people to adopt whether they want a baby, a teen, an adult, or an elder.
My cats actually motivate me to clean way more often than I would normally do because I can tell they hate mess and are uneasy in it. Also, they motivate me to have a regular sleep schedule, which is awesome for my wellbeing and productivity 💯

I can tell you two are amazing pet owners from the fact he was making little biscuits on day 4! That’s a crazy fast time for a cat to warm up to a new home and family. Thank you guys for giving him a home, elderly cats are so often overlooked so it’s a beautiful thing to see one get a family 😸💖

I wanted an older cat for my little dog but a needy stray kitten found me. All my cats have been adopted strays. She's sweet and beautiful, a ragdoll or at least part. I love her but still would have preferred an older mellow cat, she's cray cray!
Older cats do not have to be litter trained or socialized which are benefits often overlooked. They are also less likely to be mischievous or hyper if you prefer a calm home.
My boyfriend and I were in the same boat as you and Kyle! I’ve grown up with dogs my entire life and love them so much, but always had a huge misconception about cats. My boyfriend has always dreamed of a dog, but the rental we moved into, cats were the only pets allowed. We gave the cat shelter a go because we 1. Wanted to give a cat a new lease on life, and 2. Thought maybe it would be easier to start with an adult cat. I thought it would be hard to choose one, but this sweet and affectionate black cat came up to us and we were also told he had trouble being adopted because he was black and 13 years old! :( It’s been 1.5 years now and Lucius is one of the best things that’s happened to us. You’re so right about all the misconceptions - cats are incredibly clean (cleaning themselves, low maintenance), can be so gentle and loving, and an amazing best friend. Ours is also very vocal and likes talking to us. Learning about cats has been such a cool experience and my opinion has forever changed about them! So happy that you guys now know cat love - I’ve heard from so many cat friends that you don’t choose the cat, the cat chooses you ❤

I've had 4 older cats and i can reccomend it they learn your ways just like a kitten would, don't be put off taking on an older cat you will love it just as much as a kitten.

We adopted an older cat who was VERY friendly in the shelter, but then at home she hid for a while, just like Bepo, but then she came out of her shell. And she was a complete lover eventually. Also, please show Bepo the UA-cam channel called Kitten Academy because it is a great show for cats. Chris and Dr. DJ run the academy.

Me and my misses had the same thing happen to us , we saw a couple of posts of a shelter not to far from us here in belgium , there was a younger 2 year old cat that lost an eye , but it was a sweetheart , we couldn't resist our little pirate cat and took him home , they also said that nobody wanted him because of the eye
As a fellow new Asian catmom (our 6-year-old tuxedo cat Lily ended up in a shelter twice before we adopted her), I feel you. It's quite the journey! The Litter Robot is really fancy, but it's actually huge and not great for our tiny apartment. Nice touch watching Haikyuu, y'all have great taste! A little tip, don't give them bowls that are too high for their food, a lot of cats don't like that because of their whiskers. And also thank you for giving Bepo a home. ❤
I agree. I feed Furnando out of shallow bowls which are low to the ground and curved not square corners like a box. He does not like trying to lick food out of corners. Filling them more often gives me more control over his appetite and weight. I also add a few tooth cleaning treats to the bottom of every bowl.
They also like their bowls wide for the same reason ( their whiskers ).

Yes, in the wild they don’t eat out of containers so shallow saucers vs deep whisker (sensor) cramping bowls will fare much better.

Bepo is such a gift in your household. So happy for all 3 of you. Our family always have cats - no allergy issues with the young ones - and yes, the older cats are calmer in temperament & a lot more loving especially when they know they are now a part of the family. Always loved cats and will always love them - ALL.

Yes! I share the same sentiment as many others here. Thank you for giving him a home. He will reward you with endless love & loyalty. It’s great having a kitten you bond with but a senior or special needs cat or dog will love you just as much if not more. I love people who adopt the “misfits.” They’re like the misfit toys from Rudolph. People who do that are special.
I’m a huge Cat & Dog Daddy. I lost my two kitties last year which I am still reeling from. Chip lived 16 years & Calvin lived 13 but I secretly hoped they’d live 20+ years. Every minute with them is special & giving them a home make you a special human. If more people were pet lovers the world would be a merrier place. I can barely go to the shelter because I want to adopt all of them. I plan to adopt 2 new cats - maybe a mix of a kitten & some senior but kittens can drive seniors nuts, we’ll see. I wish I was a millionaire because I’d adopt 20 cats & dogs & live like a crazy pet person🙂 They are gifts to humanity & one of the best things in this life. Thank you for giving Bepo a loving home. This is so cute I love Bepo already 😭 It's so nice to see elderly cats being brought home from shelters. But one piece of advice I have is that when playing with the laser toy make sure to give him a treat at the end because I've heard that lasers can be very frustrating for cats since they aren't able to actually 'catch' the red dot. After playing with the laser you should let Bepo "catch" the dot which you have directed to the treat. It gives them a sense of catching pray and makes them less agitated! :)

Older cats and kittens always provided me with emotional and physical therapy. When we pet or stroke a cat, it causes a release of oxytocin in both humans and our animal companions, which can also reduce pain. Thanks for giving him a chance. People don't know what they're missing.

Cats don’t like to have their whiskers touch the sides of a dish since these are their sensors so serving his food on a flat saucer vs a deep bowl would make him so much happier! You’re doing an amazing job as his mom! ❤

Only one note: id recomend getting a lower bowl for feeding him because a cats whiskers are very sensitive and they usually prefer to eat from a dish without touching it with whiskers :)
