My first cat was thrown out a car window as it was entering a freeway. Fortunately, I was a bit behind the car and was able to stop on the ramp and grab the kitten which I ended up keeping and named him Freeway! This was years ago but when I heard that you picked that name it brought back the memories of what a great cat he turned out to be and actually lived until he was 21 years old! Thank you for being so brave and saving this cat!
I had a Tuxedo cat who lived to be 21! She was pretty amazing!! For 3-5 Christmases we’d say “this could be her last Christmas!” I knew she was going to leave us when she didn’t come to the kitchen when she heard the electric can opener. She ALWAYS came…hoping It was tuna! When she didn’t come I looked for her. She had stopped in the middle of the living room. She was just sitting there. It was as far as she could go!! She meowed so softly at me. I picked her up. By now she weighed nothing. I brought her into the kitchen to give her the tuna liquid. She lapped it up! She died 2 days later…on my bed, in my arms. We loved each other. Still do! 💙🐾💙

Here's what I imagine. Its a dangerous rescue without traffic control, for the rescuers, motorists and the animal. Assuming the risk yourself is different legally speaking than a rescue organization giving the go ahead and asking someone to do this rescue. If someone from the rescue responded and was injured or killed or caused someone to be injured or killed creating hazardous road conditions, there could be legal grounds to sue the rescue, because they were asked to do something dangerous without training or safety measures in place, so the rescue would be at fault. Then this impacts the rescue financially or their insurance they need to be able to operate and then maybe they can't afford to continue at all. I dont know how feasible it is, actually, because I'm not an expert in liability or non profits, but I know volunteering isnt as simple as showing up to do the work that needs doing because of insurance and legal liability and safety. Just some brain storming about why a rescue wouldnt rescue beyond "they must be bad shameful people".
It's extremely dangerous and people get hit walking on freeways all of the time. I've seen police stop freeway traffic to help two dogs that were wandering along the median of a freeway. This dude is brave as hell and I know it's dangerous but I would've done the same.
We need animal protection laws passed! Anyone caught dumping/dropping a domesticated animal needs to be charged with a crime, fined and sentenced to jail time! The people who do this put animals in danger!

Anyone who dumps an animal should be fined and named and shamed on social media and shown on the local news so that people around said person can see what type pf person they really are. They also should not be allowed to own another pet/animal.
I completely agree. If the law isn’t going to do something then name names and put them on SM. You can’t even throw an old couch on the side of the highway and People do this to animals all the time. At minimum they should be exposed on SM

@Ieatpaste23 I've heard about people doing that. If this is the case, something will come out, say a pattern of always being there when an animal is in distress or danger. Someone will say something. If you've noticed this, then you should report this person.

The risk is obvious. It's also obvious that kind people will step in when those that should, won't. Saying no didn't eliminate the risk they were avoiding, it just created a more dangerous scenario.

Poor kitty was in a horrible situation! It took a compassionate guy to rescue him, name him Freeway, make sure he got the medical care he needed to begin to recover, and then take him home to make him a member of the family! Kudos, sir! Freeway is looking happy and healthy these days, and we hope that the memory of the trauma he went through has faded away!
Oh man, I know, he was bloody trying to chew through that metal, poor guy, that's why I taught my cat not to even be in the road, somebody made it easy for me, when I took him to my place I had him on my arms and I pointed at the road and said "No! Stay out the road, they will kill you!" and as soon as I said it somebody flew by doing twice the speed limit! My cat never crosses the road.

Poor kitty was in a horrible situation! It took a compassionate guy to rescue him, name him Freeway, make sure he got the medical care he needed to begin to recover, and then take him home to make him a member of the family! Kudos, sir! Freeway is looking happy and healthy these days, and we hope that the memory of the trauma he went through has faded away!
Luckily, cats don't have a very long memory span. They live for the day. We all should.
Oh man, I know, he was bloody trying to chew through that metal, poor guy, that's why I taught my cat not to even be in the road, somebody made it easy for me, when I took him to my place I had him on my arms and I pointed at the road and said "No! Stay out the road, they will kill you!" and as soon as I said it somebody flew by doing twice the speed limit! My cat never crosses the road.
