The reactionary click bait is getting tiresome. Like a parody of yourself. Not that I blame you, you’re obviously targeting the folks who won’t watch but want assurances they’re not missing anything. Maybe you’re not so different from all the industry characters afterall. Anything for a coin, huh? Well, there’s your UA-cam comment to boost your engagement, spend the adcents wisely.
@@jakestroll6518 so you’ve caught that he’s a bandwagon riding clown as well eh? Yeah I can’t take his opinion seriously anymore. He’s a biased follower.

Colour me surprised that it's still bad - or worse. Colour me more surprised if it gets better.
@@jakestroll6518 You have wildly over-estimated how many subscribers someone needs to get "a coin' that would make a significant difference, I think? Comparing it to what "the industry characters" make is kinda ridiculous. Comparing the channel to industry mercenary attitudes is thus insulting.

we just leave acting to actors that's way too much that's so nasty and foul whoever wrote that is mentally ill
Yes. When I heard this I was open mouthed and in shock. I thought it was disgusting. I watch a lot of disturbing horror movies but this was just not expected. Vile is the correct word for this.

I think I’m forced to believe that Tedros is a cult leader that can convince and make Jocelyn fall head over heal for him. The thing is he has no charisma at all. He has a funny pigtail hairstyle and weird taste of fashion on himself. But still he dares tell Jocelyn that she has no taste. Like WTF? I can’t keep on watching it. The show just doesn’t make sense.
Plus we don’t see built to it .. I think make sense like really interested her then her persona she put on . 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah. That's the point of his character. He's trying to manipulate everyone into thinking that he's the boss and knows what he's doing when in fact he's nobody, that luckily catched a big fish named Jocelyn.
And still, this "deep" idea is such a blah... Like whatever.
This show should've never come out.
everything pretty much makes sense besides tedros being able to bag jocelyn. the cult itself-tedros acting as he does but having all that control implies he’s saved everyone including dyanne/izaak/chloe and that’s why they’re so submissive to him. it makes sense he’s pathetic and they submit to him bc they’re that desperate, but romantically there can’t be much to offer that would warrant her putting all her trust in him-knowing he’s clearly mooching. jocelyn doesn’t need anything from him besides a hookup. she already knows more about the industry she’s in commercially than he does bc she’s lived it. there’s no reason jocelyn would trust solely him for advice on something she’s experienced in, could have any guy she wanted, and can drop tedros in a second. at best she could’ve used him for advice she could choose not to take. him being with her is an upgrade bc he was irrelevant before her and knows how powerful her association is.
It`s like a rollercoaster,,,,, i hope you are not a walking dead fanboy...

I don’t mind sex scenes but the ones in this episode in particular were just too much. Forced and added nothing to the story. Nudity, sex and eroticism on screen are okay as far as they add something to the story and are done well. In this episode, they were neither. Just pure cringe and distasteful. We got Jocelyn‘s fetishist relationship with Tedros, no need to force it down our throats 5 times per episode. There are so many ways to keep their sexual dynamic brewing without overdoing it like that. I decided to give the show a chance and will be watching it till the end and honestly, I begin to feel like one is not supposed to enjoy watching this show, it is meant to be uncomfortable and cringe. Will see.
I agree. Plus, her outfits make me cringe as well. Do we need to see her little boobs and butt in 90% of the show??? It's possible to come across sexy without showing so much skin
Lowkey nice point
I agree
I think your last point is spot on. It's gripping the viewer and taking them somewhere dark. It isn't supposed to be entertainment like a marvel movie as much as it is more of an artistic expression. It's gritty, gross, cringy, and distasteful, because that's EXACTLY what it would be like to under the control of a maniacal psychopath with you as its prey. We are not supposed to like it nor are we supposed to support it. They gave the Weeknd a rattail for a reason, rattails are gross (in modern times), he's supposed to be gross. Not saying all have to appreciate it but I don't think anyone is supposed to like it anymore we should be aroused or find enjoyment in the poor victims of cult leaders.
I feel like shows like black mirror or even succession do a pretty good job at intentionally making us not support or root for their characters. Or make us feel uncomfortable. This show just doesn’t feel intentional.
i don't think this show wil get beter, It's what it is. The focus point of this show are the actors and that is the problem. A good show or movie starts with a intresting story that is wel written. The director focus tomuch on the cinematic look, by doing that he creates plotholes what doesn't make sense.
I don't think you understand what potholes are. If anything, the show has too much plot, which should actually be secondary. Cinema is a visual medium. If you crave stories so badly, you can simply read literature.
@@jamk2668 cinema is still storytelling. if the story is shit, lots of people wont care that it looks pretty. if you dont care about the story thats fine, but dont project your low standards of entertainment onto everyone else.
Character driven stories > plot driven stories. If you need a quick burn high octane show just switch to CW network, Riverdale has what you’re looking for. Also, whoever taught the hoi poloi the phrase “plot holes” should be whipped in the town square. It does NOT mean whatever most of you imagine it means.

Hahaha 😂
The show comes off as really pretentious. Two men with alot of money trying to go 'deep' and they think they've really done it, they use buzzword like social commentary to make it seem like they really thought things through. The sex scenes literally add nothing to the story whatsoever. Their random, crude and it's not 'liberating' for women it's like the character has no idea how to act and no boundaries. By this point it really just seems like Sam levison wanted to make a porn show about lily rose Depp. I saw a clip of them at cannes press conference and this nothing this man said made any sense 😂. The story is good when it actually focuses on the dark side of the industry, like when joss had a beakdown on set but then it literally just shifts to porn which has nothing to do with the story?? This show is what happens when rich people have too much time, too much money and want to flaunt how dark they are under the publics noses *cough cough sam levinson*
THANK YOU EXACTLY
Levinson made it in Euphoria , one of the best shows of all time ... that show saved my life , the problem is the ´´ actor ´´ that tried to play Tedros , there resides real arrogance lolll
@@AmapollaOfficial in Euphoria, season one, there was actually colaborative efforts from the actors to write their characters like Jules. Season two, well... there wasn't an amicable enviroment from what we heard, even having Barbie Ferreira stepping out of the show after having diferences with Sam Levinson, allegedly.
@@AmapollaOfficial EUPHORIA IS A POS SHOW. I couldn't even get through the entire first Season. When they made the teenage Trans girl become a prostitute that's when I had enough. It was disgusting watching these older men abuse her.
THIS
I actually liked this episode the most. The way Tedros Tedros got offended when she told him he's gay was priceless. I also enjoyed Jocelyn standing up to him during the dinner scene (although she immediatly folded). However what I don't appreciate is seeing her getting eaten out in the first 5 minutes of the ep. It's totally unnecesssary and brings nothing to the story. I feel like the Weeknd and Sam Levinson got to write their porn/sex/fetish fantasies while not being restricted by the age of the characters portrayed. Also I'm not sure if Weeknds' performance just sucks or if Tedros is suppose to look corny and pretentious asf.
Surprised u didn’t mention The Epstein “joke” that was used
So, every s3x scene ever in The Idol is Levinson's and Abel's fantasies? See, this is where you lose me because this is just hating for the sake of it. I agree that it feels unnecessary but it is consensual. The characters are in that "honeymoon phase" where they are all over each other, cause they are "dating". And lastly, Tedros is supposed to come off as sleazy, disgusting and corny individual. That's the point. It's sad how Jocelyn went from her mom being an abuser to Tedros, which is perfectly understandable cause that's what abuse victims go through, by going from an abusive situation into another cause they don't know better.
@@StrawberryBlond21 I can see that point of view, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter cuz the acting and writing is so terrible anytime they try to “portray a message” it just flops so hard. It’s just not believable in any tiny way, even learning about Jocelyn’s history with her mom Abel’s acting is so so bad I can’t buy a world famous pop star would fall for the dude who stands outside a strip club on a Wednesday night smoking a Cherry Colt. He’s not a commentary or parody, his acting makes his character just bad.
@@user-ww7vt8se1m the "joke" was of poor taste coming from a person of poor taste
The getting eaten out is saying TONNES. 1) it explains why she’s unable to perceive him as a threat yet. She sees him enjoying centering her pleasure and assumes he always means well for her. 2) With his head between her legs, SERVICING her, he’s giving her a false sense of power. You can tell from the shots of elation in her face. Later she orders him not to come inside her which tells us she still believes she’s in charge. I’m guessing we will slowly see this sense of power over her own body disappear. 3) In constantly eating her out her in public, she’s sticking the middle finger to her prudish controlling dead mother and he’s validating her rebellion - its fortifying their bond because she finally doesn’t feel judged. Those intomacy scenes are communicating more about her state of mind and the stages of their dynamic more than any dialogue. Y’all just got too used to being spoon fed from other shows.
The first half was boring and felt like it didn't add anything to the story but the table diner scene was very interesting to watch, we finally got to see Jocelyn's trauma and how tedros uses that trauma to manipulate her and abuse her.
One could say Jocelyn is the only good part about this show because the show should have been about her, the Idol, a titular protagonist.
That's what my Dad and Stepmom said when watching this episode with me yesterday
Still never explained what she saw in this nobody. They should have paired her up with someone in her industry I'd have been more interested in seeing either a PR relationship or someone powerful like Weinstein and that is why she is so desperate to degrade herself for validation
LOlll He already abused her on episode 1 , is just another kind of abuse now , not really surprising
@@josephtafur oh my! You watch this with your parents? I don't really feel comfortable watching this show with anyone. But my parents are very conservative and they wouldn't give this show the time of day

I agree for only having 6 episodes the pacing seems slow. Considering we are half way done I expected it to not still feel like so much is unfinished. I already know this will end on a cliffhanger. And I don’t think they will get a season two.
It feels slow but fast at the same time. Like this ep feel kinda rush but also feel like not enough is happening for 6 eps

6 episodes is more than enough… because Jocylin is the only thing interesting about this show.
I feel like one of the biggest things about the show (and likely what critics were referencing before the show came out) is that it doesn't show clearly whether it's trying to glorify and promote it's actions or if it's trying to villainize them, in a way that's much more substantial than Euphoria (since people made the same claims about it). Euphoria showed you the grim consequences of the many glittery colorful scenes. The whole scene of Tedros beating up Jocelyn with a hairbrush was shot in such a way as if he actually was just doing her a favor. The way they all gaslight Jocelyn and romanticize the cult like behavior of Tedros. I think it's also Abel's lack of acting skills that made this worse than it should've been, but when he's talking to Jocelyn at the table and telling her how this and that will help with her music, disregarding her feelings, since he says it in such an average conversational tone (as opposed to something with dramatic effect, something that makes it clear that he's the villain of the story) it almost makes it sound like what he's saying is portrayed as logical, or rational.
this is the comment i’ve been looking for! explained perfectly.
I feel like, at least to me, it's pretty clearly villainizing it. Solely because everything in it is just so innately and obviously wrong-- there's no way you could watch it and say "Oh, this is great and cool and acceptable!". The whole claim that it's being glorified is kind of disgusting to me honestly... it means that people think there's a possibility that the things going on in the show are okay, and that says way more about the viewer than the show. The show is portraying something disgusting and vile and extremely personal to the main character, and, although we don't know the rest of the plot yet so it's not 100% set in stone, we'll likely see her recognize this and overcome it. Tedros is so obviously a bad person-- I haven't seen anyone who thinks otherwise-- and that's the POINT. He's the antagonist of the show. He's supposed to be manipulative, scary, and morally screwed.
Every single comment I've seen about this show has clearly recognized how messed up everything that happens in it is. So clearly, the show isn't romanticizing anything, as no one is seeing it in that light. It's SUPPOSED to be ugly. It's definitely hard to watch and out of pocket sometimes, and that's the entire point. I hope Jocelyn is written to fight all the ugly at some point, although for it to have any plot line at all that would kind of need to happen. I'll come back when the story's over.
@@ssyeinah It's villainized to you because to you it's clearly and innately wrong, that doesn't mean the show helped portray it that way. It's been a valid criticism for years for many different movies or shows, especially in the romance genre where you see lots of kidnapping and abuse. Of course it's wrong, and yes, there would be people that take it as romantic or cute in a fucked up way. The same as with Euphoria and Nate Jacobs. You're giving people the benefit of the doubt, which is sweet, but naive. And again, I'm talking about portrayal, not consequences.
@@ssyeinah And i never said the show ISN'T supposed to be ugly and disturbing, I love watching those types of movies, especially horror movies, but that doesn't mean people's criticisms of it's behavior and character portrayals fall into the water. It would've been good if it actually leaned into that dark and disturbing, but it's halfway over and it really doesn't. The only good disturbing scenes are the ones at the dinner table and the ones where Jocelyn has a breakdown while shooting the music video. The rest is just pointless fucking and really bad story building. We have three episodes left and unless they really turn it up, it'll be just an average, very mid show most people will forget about. I don't intensely dislike the show, but the original story, or what we know of it (they mentioned it would've leaned into Tedros' cult like behavior more, but Abel wanted to make it less culty and focus on his own character) would've been much better.
@@ssyeinah Sorry anout the ranting but just one last comparison. A24 is known for it's really good disturbing movies. Some of the most popular movies in the last couple of years are disturbing psychological horrror thrillers. This is just not it. This is basically porn with a loose plot. Which I wouldn't take too seriously like 365 Days if it didn't try to take itself seriously, but it does. Imo the biggest thing they did wrong with this show is portraying it as some social commentary extravaganza with a deep story and "The biggest movie of the summer".
the opening scene actually tells this show very well: WE have jocelyn in bed, and the camera focus on her breasts, and the sun is on her chest, and her head is in the shadow. aka this show is not about character - it's about being an object and only showing thins to shock. never actually getting to know the main character. tedros character changes many times over this episode. sometimes he is intimidating and other times he seems like he doubts himself. like they want him to be both and weirdo but also a serious abuser.
Tedros SHOULD be uncertain, he’s in a dynamic where he technically does not hold the power yet. He’s slowly inching into the pilot seat but he’s not there and being around older savvy industry players like Hank Azarias character who could still take it all away should freak him out. Y’all watching too many comic book movies if you think megalomaniacs arrive completed? Narcissists experience vulnerability ya know! (In fact narcissism is maladaptive coping for people who have severely poor self image).
@@jakestroll6518 yes, but you sound like someone who is watching with a very good understanding of psychology. The average viewer isn't seeing it from your point of view so maybe calm down in the comments and realize that. You sound so judgemental about a t.v. show who's audience is primarily just here to see the Weeknd attempt acting. A lot of us are still stuck on weather Tedros is intentionally weird or is Abel just a horrific actor. Hell, is this the character or bad character acting?! Then maybe we can start to analyze behavior. You seem quite confident that Abel's acting is good enough to pull off a complex character with these detailed character flaws but a lot of the rest of us aren't so sure. Nor do we trust Sam's writing after the way he screwed up Euphoria.
As a weeknd fan, I am so heartbreakingly dissappointed. He and Sam are very delusional if they think this body of work is anything close to being provocative. It is super forced and unnecesaary. I really am not able to get over Jocelyn saying "she likes that he is rapey" I just couldnt move pass that and then the rest of the episodes, there is barely any coherence as to character development. Just bad story telling.

@@heyyall5651 I do agree with what ur saying to an extent but Its just the way it was planned out and presented mostly. This scene could've worked if it was very mature with how it was portrayed. but The fact its shot like a 50 shades of grey scene and in some cases it actually felt like they were making a shot for shot remake of a scene from those films and to add to that the music choice laid over top of it felt it was ripped out of those films kinda just made it look like it was showing it off in a way. Grotesque shots of Lily's body, the Weeknd's corney acting and the song really doesn't help a scene that should be really dark and mature Abt what it's showing.
@@GibsonHReviews I gotcha! Unfortunately, the whole show is poorly written and everything is too rushed. This could have really been good if they really took the time to plan it out
They should have never scrapped the original plan. I want a series with Destiny and Chaim trying to manage and handle difficult celebs. Not this nonsense 😂
This show is just so weird, nothing makes sense and everything is hyper-sexualized
See the problem is the weekend wanted it from the Melbourne respective but what he seems to not realise no one gives a shit about his perspective. The show is about a female celebrity not about him and that’s why it’s not working. It’s his ego destroyed the show
Yes.
What I find puzzling is that Tedros is meant to be charismatic and charming and very good at deceiving people since he is trying to do all of this stuff. Yet, the moment Jocelyn's team starts to question him, with for example 'where did you grow up?' and 'what school did you go to?' this man freezes and acts like a dumbass, face twitching/hesitating and eventually pulling the most pathetic lies out of his ass.
I'm sorry, I thought this was the master manipulator cult leader who brainwashes everyone? Few basic questions and he completely stumbles about. Many of fans favourite actors have played characters of murderers and perverts in movies and yet they are still love by their fans. People need to stop being melodramatic
Seeing the original concept of the show peek out of this horrible male fantasy trash art piece is actually infuriating bc it could have been a good show if they just kept the original script. I wish I saw more of Jocelyn’s relationship with her mom and her relationship with Dyanne/management more than the obnoxious amount of XXX scenes with the Weeknd 🙄🙄🙄
I agree with everything that you said about the episode. The sex scenes are so gratuitous and all presented from the male gaze that it’s actually uncomfortable to watch. Even Jocelyn’s clothes are ridiculous and worn for shock value. I love your insightful response to Abel wearing glasses all the time as his eyes are just vacant. I usually watch HBO shows multiple times but I can barely get through the episodes as it is. Lol 🤓 thx for covering it though, your videos about it are far more interesting! 👏👏👏
the dinner scene was very sad it made me feel more empathetic towards joss and made me hate tedros even more. this episode also made me feel so bad for leia i relate so hard because i was in that same position before having a close one fall into a toxic abusive relationship. seeing joss slowly change and tedros treating leia/the cook like shit without joss standing up for them really gave me so many flashbacks in my personal life.
I actually thought the scene around the table was the best acting the Weeknd has done so far. That isn't saying much, but at least he moved his forehead muscles a bit for the close-ups when he was grilling Jocelyn. I've been watching the show because it is controversial - it's been uh, not good. However, I could actually make it through the first 2 episodes without skipping forward. This one was holy god parts of it were just unwatchable and so awkwardly done. The intro in the back of the car reminded me of the famous sx scene in The Room with Tommy Wiseau where his character hilariously appears to be intimate with a belly button.
I agree with you about the Weeknd's performance. He may have taken the time to get some Botox dissolved in his face to make those necessary movements
Damn, u must be a professional actress or smtg
i’m surprised by xander not standing up to tedros with the hairbrush thing, but tedros must have known he wouldn’t seeing as how he didn’t intervene with the mom
Wow, amazing how quickly you were able to put this video out!
I decided to give it one more opportunity this week, since in last episode I found really interesting the mv part, but this episode didn’t even give a continuity to that, it is so annoying all the s*x scenes, it feels so overstated and redundant, and is so uncomfortable watching Abel act, like fr this man isn’t giving ANYTHING. For someone who was so demanding about the show caliber he’s literally the one thing making it so low quality and bad. Don’t think I’ll watch anymore.
This is what happens when toxic men get too much than they can handle. Sam and Abel are disgusting. I don't want him to continue with euphoria, i won't be watching if he is.
Another emotional woman angry at a fictional character in a fictional show🤣 this is why they wrote it from a male perspective Because if a woman wrote it, it would just be another lame Hollywood liberal spoon fed show🤣 y’all suck the life out of everything y’all touch
I am tapped out at this point. But I will be watching your reviews. The Idol feels like a vanity project by Abel. On top of his weak acting and the ridiculous character he’s playing, you also have his music playing in the background every 10 minutes…as you said…it’s a parody of itself.
Ngl this show seems like abel needing a excuse to touch on Lily
@@AUGHHHHHBBGI was thinking the same thing
It's like a long terrible music video that won't end
Honestly Lily is carrying this show on her back. All my favorite scenes contain a moment from her, especially the way she said “mom” during the music video. i completely forgot i was watching an actor. She’ll definitely do Johnny proud, maybe even outshining him eventually.
Outshining one of the best actors of all time?
yeah no way..
She has like two facial expressions, I don’t think she’s outshining anyone. Granted she is working with an awful script.
This show is laughably bad, Karma is working over time on Sam Levinson and The Weeknd for booting the original director bc she made the show too centered on Lily Rose Depp and not enough on The Weeknd’s horribly corny character . The Weeknd got what he wanted, more of himself on camera, and it’s a train wreck. I don’t know how the hell HBO greenlit the series release, the dialogue is cringe, The Weeknd is not convincing to be someone with any sort of ultimate, cult leader authority. The other characters feel underdeveloped, it’s just so bad, it could have been so much more than the dumpster fire it is
My biggest annoyance with this episode was that it took 40 minutes of softcore porn and cringey dialogue just to get 10 minutes of character development.
Destiny and Chaim are carrying this show on their backs
Seriously tho - where are they? They’re great and interesting characters.
who do they play?
@@kphoria1009 That’s the character names but the actors who play them are Hank Azaria and Da’Vine Joy Randolph
@@kphoria1009the managers
With the fire I thought they were going to burn the hairbrush, would've been way more powerful
Fr? I thought it was obvious that he was about to bring the wrath of god down on her back with that hairbrush.. he gives a whole speech about tapping into pain to produce something great at the expense of yourself.. them just burning the brush would undermine the cult toxic aspect
And more boring.
I don't know cause fuck...i cannot figure out what the hell they have done with the goddam brush...did they have sex with It???
The kids bleeding dialogue is disgusting, i had to take a long break after that. When the show is not focusing on Jocelyn's internal struggles, it really feels like exploitative porn.
The ending was so fucked up with the hairbrush , at first episode 1 wasn't that bad , the second was a bit better but there are still uncomfortable sex scenes that doesn't help the storyline at all... its getting more confusing for me personally, tedros is getting creepy though ...I feel like the only thing we have now is just jocelyn crying and getting fucked by tedros ...and the other characters are just ...the same
Interesting how Tedros got mad when Jocelyn told him he was probably gay..
based on the trailer it looks like he is gonna cheat on her with troye sivan and she is gonna end up being betrayed once again
@@darsh6252 bingo, i knew he was too frustrated to be real
You think? I definitely think Tedros is at least Bi but would he cheat on her in her own house?
@@YouStankGoEat maybe bi but he's def in denial
@darsh6252 - the black guy gives me vibes that he’s been fckin Tedros.
yeah i think i’m out on this series, it’s just all over the place and like i don’t know any of the characters true intentions
this show gets harder and harder to watch each week 😭
The Weekend is a terrible actor and now, with all the background drama to this show, also seems like a narcissist. I feel like he only got this acting gig bc of his name/influence, not actual talent. And by virtue of the fact that he thinks he can just act even though he’s actually a singer IS the sign of a narcissist!! Not to mention that all of the music in the show is his bc he can’t stand to share the spotlight.
Also love these analyses, please continue
all the lyrics in the weeknd's songs are fucked up and narcissistic. I can never listen to his songs the same way again.. too dangerous and triggering
Well said! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Even the house is his...he has to show us he is rolling in It!!!
When you said "oh man...Tedros😮💨😒🙄" i felt it
Nailed it. I saw glimpses of a better show though when Jocelyn was standing up to Tedros at the dinner table.
They should have gone with that
I haven't yet watched this particular episode, but I do wonder (from what you say) if those glimpses might be of the show this could have been if they'd kept the original director?
@@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 Honestly I believe it might be. That table scene focused on Jocelyn’s past, what she’s gone through with her mother and her perspective on life, which is exactly what Sam Levinson and The Weeknd wanted less of when they came in and took over.
@@ridofchris Sounds about right. 😕
The thing is… This show should’ve started with her mother and her and shown her relationship with her.. Season 3 or 4 should’ve included Tedros - I feel like I’ve been dropped into a show at Season 5.
This felt like a filler episode in a series that has no time for filler episodes
Very true!
I predict this show is gonna “jump the shark” at the season finale..only to be shocking/edgy enough to get ppl interested in a season 2. (At this point HBO is just trying to save face, and fragile egos too)
I dunno... your "jump the shark" prediction may well be accurate, but both the anti-criticism tide I see welling up already in support of the show AND the number of hate watchers tell me a second season is a shoo-in at this point. HBO will ultimately probably just care about the viewing stats/high level of extra-content engagement.
@@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494but the viewing is still pretty high tho cus a bunch of people are watching it

I agree about the part where they were talking about saying yes everything, then at the end of that convo contradict themselves by saying no to something. I get it tho, the fear of Tedros in engrained because Jocilyn is dealing with a cult leader. Notice the part when Joc's manager and publicist pulls up and Tedros get out the car to show off his emblem on his chain when zipping down his sweater, then what the manager did next was pull out his emblem to reveal the star of David. What they were doing was posturing and signaling on some messianic occult type of crap. That was very deep and realistic, as well as an interesting tell to where I think this show is going to go. I wont dive too deeply into all that but his occult influence is present in the overt sexuality which he uses as a control mechanism on all parties. He's like someone who reads 48 laws of power and lives by it lol. Far as TheWeeknds acting, for me personally I wouldnt love it more if he over sold the character and I honestly cant say I see any definitive signs that he is under selling it, so for me its digestible but to each its own.
I can't wait for it to end
I just hope Chaim and Destiny will do something about Tedros in the next episodes. I also think Leia might end up getting killed or something, I don't know, I just feel her character will not have a happy ending
tw is not intimidating and that they try to keep us that this person without charisma has a retinue of people who would die if he told them it is ridiculous and not credible at all
Best intro so far!!!
This episode was still as bad as the first 2 and Abel’s performance still leaves a lot to be desired but I have to admit, the table scene was actually well done and engaging. Other than that one scene the episode was straight dog ass dumpster juice and him trying to be intimidating just came off just as cringe as the sex scenes.
I also really enjoyed the music video shoot scenes from episode 2. That and the table scene in episode 3 were the only parts of the show that I felt had true substance
When I watch Tedros, I think of Jared Leto. If this was him, this show wouldn’t been very different… I freaking love the Weeknd in music, but on this show I hate him so much, because he’s really bad and the show doesn’t help either… if this is all they have for us, let’s just stop at 6 and never do this again.
so true about Sennot and Depp being too good for the show. Sennot is the only person who actually gives realistic emotions and reactions to this mess of a plot.
Am glad your doing this your a true hero your efforts is appreciate
From my knowledge this is a 5 episode run, we're 3 episodes in and i'm still wondering why this show was produced.
It was produced so that Abel could satisfy his appetite for dirty sex and to show us how "macho" he is
In the beginning I heard “new rapisode” at first 💀
I have an question, if you don't like the show why are you watching it?
Hate watching
I actually loved this episode. It shows the tactics how cults recruit people. They find out what you are lacking and use it against you, they give you what you think you need so you feel save with them. He’s manipulating her and she falls for it, so she get’s attached.
I’m right with you lass this episode was actually a good one
What tactics? He's ugly and lacks charisma. They should have at least chosen some crazy handsome cult leader. It shows Jocelyn as a major pick me instead
AND YOU LOVE THAT????
@@brianawaters2852yes because it’s a show and it shows the world is unfortunately not all rainbows and butterflies.
I don’t think that’s news to anyone, though. What’s the point of a tv show depicting that? Isn’t that what true crime is for?
idk this episode was a lot better in my opinion. we’re really starting to see how his manipulation is taking place and his true character is coming out. his short tempers, him firing the ppl closest to her, etc. we get more information on Jocelyn’s background with her mom as well and how he uses that to manipulate her even further. it’s okay if you don’t like the show, but i think some ppl are just jumping on the hate bandwagon just bc other ppl don’t like it. the weekend actually did well in this episode in my opinion. he’s unlikeable, but that’s the point lol
I'm a sympathizer for the show and I think that some of concepts in the show ie tedros' charisma could be developed better for those who don't see what i see but I also felt like Jocelyn going along with him is a reflection of her character and inner world more than manipulation. I think that up to the end of episode 3 tedros doesn't need to be convincing because jocelyn is pursuing a thrill rather than being unaware and brainwashed. The scene she tells him he can't c** inside her shows us that 1, jocelyn still has control when she wants to draw a line between them and 2, that she has a recklessness to her that contextualizes why she likes tedros. There's a SLOW build up of her dedication to him as seen with him isolating her from her friends and employees with the trainer, creative director at dinner and pushing her to be more vulnerable than she wants and finally the hairbrush thing. Episode 3 ending with the brush scene is the moment that jocelyn hands a bigger piece of herself than she wants to becoming emotionally vulnerable to tedros on a deeper level. All the decisions and dialogue honestly make a lot of sense to me and i often feel like the writers did a great job balancing complex personal motivations across all the characters while pushing the plot forward. And the plot is very yet to be seen as we don;t know if jocelyn will find herself again or fall into a darker plot with tedros. I encourage people to consider the satirical element of the show and think more deeply about jocelyn as a character because i think that's the part that gets lost on at least those who aren't just hopping on the trend of hating the idol.
I disagree I honestly thought the conversation at the table about Joss’s mom amongst everyone was the first time any of the actors/actresses performances made you feel ANYTHING at all. I liked Lily’s delivery in that scene personally, she was convincing as a deeply emotionally unstable and damaged person….
You know what this series reminds me of? When you plan your outfit for the next day lying in your bed and it looks amazing, but when you actually try it on the next day it looks...off. I feel like the same thing happened here, yet the people in charge somehow think the outfit looks amazing. There's "fucked up cinema" with meaning like Midsommer or Requiem for a Dream - unhinged, yet with a lot of substance. And then there's this...
Ugh, anyway. I feel like I might stay celibate for a couple of months lol
where can we watch the full video of this show?
I wonder how similar Abel and Tedros are as people. Because, honestly - if any of the crew on this show were able to say ‘no’, to a man who has LIMITED acting/TV experience…would he have all this screen time?
Maybe, like Tedros - everyone feels the pressure to say yes to Abel, with his performance and his direction on this show…Just a thought.
This show is random Af. The gross sex scenes at Valentino was so trashy and cringey.
So there's this movie called 9 1/2 Weeks. I read somewhere that this series was copying that movie and I recalled I already watched it once I checked the trailer. And yes, the relationship dynamic between the main characters do resemble that movie a lot...
9 1/2 was watchable, but not this shtshow
Hey BrainPilot, seeing that there’s a few negative comments here, I thought it’s good to let you know that I appreciate the effort that you put on releasing these videos. I’ve been watching the idol because I was curious about the hype of it and I’m continuing it because I want to know how it ends. Each episode I watch kept giving me this icky feeling and like you said it gets worst each ep. This is the first time I find a series that gives me such a bad feeling and I know for a fact it’s not because of the ‘plot’. It’s like the combination of its writing, acting, or whatever that just sets me off. The problem is I don’t know how to articulate why or how it gave me that feeling. So videos like yours help me understand and analyse what gave that feeling. You basically allow me to understand the art of story telling a little bit better and I find it really interesting! So thank you once again!
So little happens in this show, in a whole episode I felt there were only two scenes.
Genuinely - that's one of the biggest problems. Not that much happens but then by the next episode somehow so much progress has been made
I like the third episode the most. I don’t see Jocelyn as victim here at all. I see her as a desperate artist who wants to be inspired again and she uses all the possibilities and all the people she have (I mean in a good way). Joselyn is in control of Tedros in this episode beginning from the sex scene and till the end. I see her as someone who can clearly understand the reality and the distinguish between bad and good but she is making her choice to write the songs again and knows just one way that can give her that. I won’t be surprised when in the end she is the one who just wants to see what he can offer and use it in her advantage. Overall I like the show because of the 90’s erotic thriller/drama vibe it has.
I could see the show having thematic value if tedros is exposed and "The Idol" owns or recognizes her influence on her fans.
I think if liea start stepping up cus she knows something is up she can start warning. I think her and the other staff should start digging back up info on tedros and I swear GET JOS A THERAPIST PLEASE 😭😭
The character of Tedros is who the weekend is in the real life and how he sees women, those pretty sex objects to write stupid songs about. The weekend made this tv show to please his ego, that's why he didn't want women to direct /write it. When you do things out of ego, it doesn't work out in your favor because your intentions were wrong. That's karma.
You have no facts to back up your claim 🤣 sounds like an emotionally woman that’s upset about watching a show that not made from a feminist or liberal perspective, news flash, Hollywood is dying, people are tired of the woke liberal garbage, people want something real to watch.
This show is pretty good so far, y’all are just a bunch of snowflakes
Every time I hear the name Tedros I think of that guy taser face from Guardians of the Galaxy and Rocket going in on him for that name 🤣🤣
Weekend basically did the show to bang Lily.
I wanna know how Johnny feels
naa this episode was way better than the other 2. Finally got more depth into our main character. Left the useless formula where 3/4 of an episode is Jos' artist life (the photoshoot and the video shoot) then the last quarter is Tedros, which I don't care for and like a teeny tiny bit of learning about Jos and her relationship with the other characters.
This show is awful and somehow gets worse every week. Not sure how this show ever got greenlit. Someone deserves to be fired for that
i actually agree. i have better screenplay idea with the last frame in episode 3.
Tedros is a characterization of a terrifying type of real-life person uses their knowledge of psychology and human emotion to manipulate their victims for self-gain but in a way that could almost be interpreted as benevolent on the surface. This is the mark of a pimp. Pimps can only be successful by getting others to do the work for them and taking their "cut." This story sheds light on what happens when someone like that is able to find vulnerable talent and pretend to love them and want the best for them while also humiliating, hurting and exerting control over them. At the very least, they wants control. The most? Idk, maybe 90% of your royalties and ownership of your masters (in the case of some legit "talent managers"). They display behaviors similar to abusive partners who "only hurt you cause they love you" and often do or say something endearing to their victims immediately after causing them intense physical and/or emotional truama. Having unfortunately known a lot of these types in both real life and in the music industry, this show does hit a nerve. It's ugly and chaotic and that's often how these people's lives are. De La Soul JUST got the rights to their music back after a career-long battle with Tommy Boy and of course there's Brittney Spears and her dad - and any number of celebs who've had the experience of being the "hoe." Idk, the show is frustrating, but idk if it's bad....yet. I think there's a lot to unpack and plot-wise, it's a bit flimsy, but there is definitely drama to be unfolded and while it might seem unrealistic, you'd be surprised how common these types of scenarios are.
Just finished the ep. The first ep I feel like wasn’t bad. The second ep was really good till tedros came in near the end. BUT THIS EP HAD ME SCREAMING.
I really think this show have potential but I swear to god tedros making this show downfall hard. Not to mention when they have the scene at the dinner table and she start clapping back at tedros she should of fully got mad and also they need to give liea a moment to clap fully back at tedros too cus u can tell she is worried and annoyed at him. She knows what’s up and we need her to deliver. Now also knowing about the gun in her staff car helps a lot cus ngl I want to have one of those moments when tedros do too much to the point they get mad and maybe use it…
Abel made me so mad with this character cus it doesn’t feel like acting and it’s actually annoying the hell out of me
I found it incoherent that Jocelyn can stand up for herself in certain moments but then falls back into doing whatever Tedros wants her to. And in the first episodes the lack of her feelings about it (being uncomfortable, being sad, we don't know if she even enjoys it) she feels like different characters at once rather than a complex character, just jumps back and forth with what's needed. Also goes for her crew, while I like their dynamic together, sometimes they're really caring of her and other times they're completely negligent and even if the purpose is that everyone's manipulating her, there's more cohesive, screen-time worthy ways to write to it instead of the really odd s3x montages we get every episode so far. Lily's at her best when the weekend's not around too, not an ounce of charisma in that role of his.
Please explain what Tedros did with the hairbrush at the end?
He used it like her mother did
I’m so curious how your mental state will be at the end of this season
