Great information. We were very selective in out breeding stock and we developed a herd We had New Zealand Whites. If the mana did not have eight, she got a second chance. Eight was our cutoff. We bred at six months. We bred two at the sane time. If we needed to, we fostered babies from larger litters to smaller litters. If we had more than eight, we plucked out the runts and fed the dogs. Overall, we found out that does take care of about eight babies at once. Nice information, nice video. God bless.

I like how you describe their behavior and note the nesting behavior. I've watched other videos where the owner just droned on about various parts of the set-up, and didn't explain much into the inner lives of rabbits.

Love all that you guys share with us, and trust your information, but I would like to share some experience that I have had in the pass with regards to leaving the doe with the buck for unsupervised for any length of time. Now first please everyone understand that I am not in no way discarding the information that Sarah has shared here, I respect her knowledge, and am only speaking with respect to some experience that I have had. I know that Sarah states that she observes for two ties, then gives them about an hour unsupervised, and this is the same information that I have been given by several breeders many years ago when I was starting out. This I was told allowed for the possibility of a third tie, which was ideally what we should seek for increased litter size.Well sadly it took me a couple of very bead experiences before I discontinued this practice, and I'll explain why . . . I had on two occasions where I returned to the cage to find blood on the floor, with my buck humbled in a corner neutered, and had to clean up his testicles off the floor, for the doe had decided/declared she has had enough! As such I lost two very good bucks. One in which I paid a good amount of money on because of his registration . . . They both survived, but were rendered useless in our herd as breeders. So, needless to say I no longer practice my procedures in that particular way. What I now do is, supervise for two ties, remove my doe for an hour, and this allows my buck to have a little recuperative time, then return the doe for the possible one more tie. If she show she's not cooperative, I remove her, and keep satisfied with the two ties. I do allow a little more time for th ed third tie, as neither may be as interested as they were initially, but I no longer leave them unattended . . . Again, just what I have experienced, and adjusted for

Hi I’m new here I just subscribed this evening. Love what y’all doing! Just to add my two cents here on pregnancy in rabbits after day 32. Sometimes the doe did in fact get pregnant and for whatever reason didn’t give birth. They often times when this happens, absorb the unborn babies back into their bodies. I have personally witnessed this. The does that do this more times than not are called from our breeding stock.

We have 5 breeding does and 1 breeding buck. Most of the time we have 4 rabbit tractors growing out rabbits (6-10 in each) and 2-3 litters of babies in with their moms. So...I would guess we are growing out about 50 rabbits at any time. Thanks so much for the great questions!

I use to breed rabbits years ago. You need to know to keep the adult males away from the female that has been bred until after the babies are grown until the newborns are grown up a bit . I would keep them seperate for 4-6 months. The adult males will kill the newborn rabbits.

I'd like to know how you handle all of their waste (your breeding stock)? I assume there is a catchment, and it goes on the garden, but do you just rake it up? Are there wood chips under the cages for urine? Are there removable waste pans under them? Just curious because this might be in our future. Thank you.

The usual idea if you plan to have a garden and want to use rabbit droppings as fertalizer is to have a carbon underneath the cages. Usually hay as its usually cheapest and lightest. Have your cages raised and let the hay lay on the ground to catch the droppings. This makes collecting with a shovel easier.

Sarah & Kevin, I have bred my Californian's and have one Doe due 10/26, however she pulled a bunch of fur at the back of the cage yesterday, so I gave her a nesting box. She mad a beautiful nest with lots of hay and pulled hair. I have never had a Doe want to build a nest almost 2 weeks early. Thoughts? Maybe a false pregnancy? Now we did get a cold snap as well, however she built this when it was 88 degrees outside, before todays 40 degree weather.
