Can we take a moment to appreciate the legitimately brutal levels that lead up to these boss fights. Paired with the DS controls, I’m astonished I made it through as a child

That frickin bird's thorn level was the worst, couldn't get around even with cheats on

I feel that. I beat megaman 2 as a kid and if I play it now I suck
I love how the minibosses have such a peaceful music, and yet they're far more brutal than the actual bosses of the respective worlds.
And they’re not repeats nor do they all take 3 hits to beat.
nor do they have bad music (if you don't agree, just compaere it to the one from snes yoshi's island)
There's something about this game's aesthetic that makes it look like a well-made fan game made from flash.
Maybe its because it wasn't made by the same people who made the snes game

It’s cause all the sprites are from different games with their own art style. Like, Yoshi is new, baby bowser is reused from the old game, adult bowser is a traced 3D model from Universal Gravitation, they use both old and new kamek sprites even though they have totally different art styles, etc
Yeah, it is a little inconsistent with its style at some points. Maybe it's that.
This game had the most creative boss fights, seriously.
And none of them were repeats nor did they all take 3 hits to beat.

Same, probably because the vines looked like centipedes, and for me, that and the fact that the piranha's teeth cracked when it came for the rock. Sended shivers down my spine as a kid.

これまで普通に倒してきた雑魚が魔法で巨大化して大幅に強化されて襲ってくるのが面白かったのに
唐突に出てきた全く見たことないモンスターを魔法で強化されても
元の強さを知らないから なんだかなあ…って感じだったなあ
I remember having so much trouble defeating that Big Bungee Piranha at age 8 or 9, I even wrote a diss/hate song thingy abt it in response 😂

This game was so hard in retrospect. Kid me was never able to beat the level in W5 with the platform that only moved if you jumped. Finally beat the rest of the game when I got older though.

So, in the final boss we see there’s 4 Yoshi in the castle. Then in the ending, we see Green Yoshi safely being carried away with the babies while Bowser’s Castle Cumbles... They left behind the other 3 Yoshi. Do they just die?
The music at the very end and beginning of the game always makes me so emotional!

No. Yoshi's New Island was made by Arzest. Artoon made DS.

the bungee piranhas were always nightmare fuel for young me because of how fast they attacked and how they just came from the ceiling, so seeing that there was a boss of one was not the most thrilling lol

If you think giant Bowser in this game is scary then look up the GBA/SNES game's one. That giant Bowser is creepy because of his dark appearance, the fact he towers over you and grows to the size that he destroys his own castle, and those glowing yellow eyes. This guy is still a baby mind you. It shows that even during his childhood Bowser was a cruel tyrant.
