I will admit what Bowser did in this game was pretty smart. He knew that if he let Mario and Luigi on their own advances they would interfere with his plans so he staged a surprise ambush and caught both Bros as well as Toad. I guess Bowser really didn't see Peach as remotely threatening so he just decided to leave her in her doomed kingdom but Peach took care of him herself. I guess either way Bowser is screwed. If he captures Peach Mario will kick his butt. If he captures Mario Peach will kick his butt. If he goes out of his way to capture someone else like say the Sprixies then Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach would all rise up and kick his butt. Bowser just cannot seem to catch a break. No matter what someone always seems to find a way to interfere in his plans.
List of people who have kicked Bowser's butt 1. Mario (obviously) 2. Peach 3. Luigi 4. Toad 5. Rosalina 6. Yoshi 7. Wario 8. Every playable character in the Mario Party games where Bowser is a boss.
That was a fun boss fight. Bowser fighting the Dark Star while the Mario Bros fight Fawful. Both in their complete dark forms. Dark Star as Dark Bowser and Fawful as Dark Star Core. Also Bowser really wasn't plotting anything but rather trying to oust a greater evil that was a threat to the world he wanted to rule. The vile duo that is Fawful and the Dark Star wanted to destroy it.
honestly, if Peach could do all this, why the hell does she even need rescuing hundreds of times.... PLENTY of games proven that she's more than capable of saving herself...

Honestly it's a pretty cool spin off game and a lot more original and interesting then most modern Mario games which all just feel like repetitive cash grabs. Peach had some cool abilities, there was some good level design and we got to have unique bosses instead of just bowser and the koopalings all the time.
It was the power of the vibe scepter, which can rapidly change people's emotions to extreme states. That's why King Boo was crying, not because he was hurt. Same reason why Hoo suddenly got all cheery when he got hurt for some reason.
When i was young i took my DS to the park to play this game and my fricking cousin lost my fricking super princess peach game and i loved it so much: R.I.P Game
