5:20 more like "then it became part of Poland AGAIN" ;p it was Polish since the beginning of the city, with a break between 1308 and 1454 when it was under the Teutonic order rules. After the partition of Poland in 1793 western and northern Poland was annexed by Prussia (later German Empire), after Poland regain independence and was back on the map the city became "free" and after WW2 it became Polish again. It's one of the most "Polish" city ;p The specific architecture, different from the other Polish cities than may suggest German origin is actually Dutch, it's because Gdansk used to be a member of the Hanseatic League and many migrants from the Netherland came here, but it's a different story ;p I'm glad you are having good time in Poland, cheers mate!

Polish cities like Gdańsk Warsaw or Krakow whilst expensive compared to the smaller towns, are still 4 times cheaper then the likes of Paris. A meal fro 3 people on a nice restaurant is about €30 in Krakow and €150 in Paris for a similar meal in a similar restaurant.

Poland applies very low VAT rates to many groups of goods and services, while some groups of products are temporarily completely exempt from VAT.An additional factor influencing the price level is the monetary policy of the local Central Bank, which does not fight for the high value of the local currency in relation to the reserve currencies, which strongly influences the high dynamics of export growth.A relatively large economy that allows to secure a significant part of consumer demand and a policy focused on the expansion of exports (undervaluing the local currency) are the secret of dynamic development over the last few decades.
Right now everything should be much cheaper for tourists with US dollars because the polish zloty is very weak against the dollar which is equal to 4.7 zloty. It's the highest value it had in history, usually it was worth around 3.5-3.7 zł per dollar ..
Poland became more expensive in last 1-2 years, but it is still cheap comparing to other european countries. In New York for 30$ I’ve got poor burger with fries and coke. In Poland the same would cost 10-12$.
If you want to get even more things, eat cheaper with better quality, and exclusive attractions, come to Łódź. You can get a really big dish of national food at only 15 zł. The size of dish is literally 1 times bigger than anywhere in Poland. And there's currently ongoing light move festival, the attraction that you won't see anywhere in Poland
So if you're a tourist in Poland: 30$ - 140 złoty will get you through two days or maximum three days of living. Of course you can be super frugal and spend only 3/4 of that. But for an average tourist in Poland that will really get you through just 2 days.

Poland is not cheap as you think. Poland will always win with prices when you compare crappy polish currency PLN (złoty) to any other big currency (dollar/euro/pound/frank). Today, the prices are DOUBLED, than they were 1 year ago. It affected mostly on food, so this 9zł breakfast you could easily have for even 4.50zł one year earlier. The polish currency is the worst since 1989 (the end of communism, very important date for Poland and enitre history), that's why foreign people are so happy to visit Poland with their money and comparing Poland to their countries, where they "feel" to pay less in Poland for food.
