I'm from Russia. From Kaliningrad. I have been to Poland many times, I like Gdansk especially much. I have not encountered a bad attitude towards Russians there before, but now, I would be a little scared to go there. I think people there hate me for being Russian. My grandmother is Polish and when I was a child she told me many Polish folk tales. They are very mysterious, interesting and beautiful so I’ve enjoyed this atmosphere. She started teaching me Polish when I was 8, but she couldn't teach me much since she died when I was 14. Every time I hear Polish, I remember the time when she took out old Polish books and read fairy tales to me with a cup of tea. Nice to hear it! I am Polish woman. I'm learning Russian and I'm very interested in Russian culture. I live in the north-east of Poland, so close to the border with Russia and Belarus. The ages-old Polish-Russian rivalry had little rational basis. It is rather the mutual distrust which turned into real conflicts in ways of self-fulfilling prophecies. Parallelly most Poles I know actually like Russians. Many Poles will retell stories how their ancestors have suffered say under the tsarist regime, yet were shown kindness and helped by Russians.
It’s heartbreaking to hear it from people as Russian. The government and people - these are two really different things, I should be careful with the words but just remember it, please. Love from Russia❤️
Actually when we are thinking about Russia a lot of people see the difference between people and the government. The thing is, it's hard to tell what we are thinking about people when we have this really strong hate for the Russian government. We didn't have the greatest relationship in the past, speaking lightly. And now with the current war? I can only judge and tell you about the government because I never met a Russian person to tell you what I think about them. There are good and bad people in every country (I, for example, don't really like a lot of Polish people, sometimes the mentality from the dark ages is too much for me XD, but I meet tons of great Poles too). Yes. I can imagine it's tough. But the Germans got over it, and it will be even easier now. The hard part is getting to the point where things can start to get better. What helps is people like you. Consider that there have been more draft dodgers in two weeks from Russia, than American draft dodgers in the 20 years that the US was in the Vietnam war, and you have a much tougher situation. Most if not all of us start learning english in the 1st grade as a mandatory subject and it's the most popular foreign language for our matura exams (comparable to A-levels) :)
They have no other option, almost all modern technologies, games, movies, shows on netflix and other streaming services are in English only, you can't survive in 21st century in digital environment without at least basic knowledge of English. I am Czech, not Pole, but when I was kid, everything was translated, most of games had Czech language or it was easy to install it, all movies were dubbed, everything I needed was in Czech, but now, I spend most of the time on English written and spoken internet, in programs and aps in English, I play games which are only in English, watch movies and servies which are only in English....in some moment, you realize that learn that language is easier than fight with that and trying to install Czech to every software or game and find pirate subtitles for all movies and shows.
Foreign languages are very important in Poland. Almost everyone learns english since elementary school. I had even english and german as mandatory subjects in my high school, next to math or PE. With foreign languages you can get much better job in Poland. English and german are the most popular, then spanish, french, italian. Russian is not that popular, but it is probably still on 6th place. More are more popular become also norwegian, swedish or dutch.

I have studied history and the more you learn about the past of this part of Europe even before USSR, the more you understand how incredibly complex it all is and why we have those conflicts and differences in views between young and old generations and between different ethnic and cultural groups, but in any case the saddest part is that as long as there is ignorance there will be division, as long as there is division there will be conflicts and as long as that's the case innocent people will get hurt..

But why is it sad when people in Serbia and Bulgaria have a different opinion? Maybe they just know what Poles don't know, or don't like to hear about? War didn't start in 2022 as they tell in the western media, people were dying since 2014. It's not that one sided as they like to feed you up in European media.
Bulgaria is western colony, and many bulgarian people know it. That's why they have different opinion. Bulgaria have many western sponsored schools, in which young people are getting brainwashed into closeminded liberals.
Its not sad that people have different opinions (yes im Bulgarian too zdr) I do like Russia and I am very thankful that they saved us from Turkey because they really did terrible things to us. I really like history and strangely, Russia has had some kind of sympathy towards us that other countries dont. They even made us the only axis country to gain land after ww2. We should always remember that a coin has 2 sides and that Russia's side is not spoken about. I dont know if you have seen that on the news(I think it was on Nova), but Russians and Bulgarians (civilians) were killed in ukraine for no apparent reason and some were even burned alive. Slavs are divided in the east and south (Balkan) and this will take maybe centuries to go to normal. Take inspiration from western Slavs (CZ, SK, PL). Those are able to cooperate, like themselves, cooperate economically, fix issues and conflict without suffering and focus on their interests but not damaging other interests. Russians are probably the least favourite by the others. Except Serbs and Bellarusians (and maybe 1/2 of Bulgarians) every other Slav nation has some recent or historical issue with them, its sad. Russia has one of the largest lands in the world, but one of the worst relations and reputations. This should be improved first.
I am from Bulgaria but let's speak the truth. Americans and they did wars and military operations in other countries like Syria/Afghanistan/Vietnam/Libya and many others. And I don't know why the EU have not imposed sanctions on the US which is stupid , it's hypocrisy to me. There will always be war no matter what year or century we are in right now. I can't help but admit that this war happened to Biden and NATO there is no greater evil than American policy this is a country that provokes wars.. in general the great powers have always had imperial thoughts this applies to the US/Russia/China and many other countries.. and now the Europeans are acting like hypocrites and crying about Ukraine. In general and no one cares about Ukraine and Russia to be honest.. yes the fact is that war is a bad thing but normal people can not do anything..

An interesting situation! All these young people are walking around the city, to which Poland has been related only for the last 80 years, no more. This city was built, inhabited and ruled by Germans, historically it is the German city of Danzig! All these young Poles have no idea how and at what price this city became Polish in 1945. Sometimes I have talked to young Poles about this. They believe that this German city was given to them by the allies, the United States and Great Britain, when they defeated Germany. Old former German cities in contemporary western Poland.... The truth is that neither Gdansk, nor Szczecin, nor Poznań, nor Wroclaw never became Polish without the blood of 600,000 Russian soldiers who died in 1944-45 during the liberation of the Poles from German occupation.

UPD. I am adding an English translation of my message. I respect Poland, especially I love games about the Witcher. And in general, the whole path that the country goes through after liberation from communism is respected by any adequate person. But when I watched this video, it was very unpleasant. I perfectly understand why such a reaction and I am very sorry (history and what is happening now are doing their job), but some people had such faces when talking about our country, it feels like they are talking about something disgusting. And in this "disgusting" lives a large number of normal people and we want nothing but a peaceful existence and prosperity. I'm really sorry. I always hoped that in the future we could become part of Europe, yes, I always thought it would be a very long process. But I hoped that the pain from the heavy historical legacy would gradually ease the wounds over time and it would become much easier to establish close contacts. As a result, everything went according to a completely different scenario. I would really like things to be different...

I as a Finn really dislike Russia as a state. To me the Russian state always represents a threat first and foremost. Russia has a great culture, from the time when there were great cultures - 18th and 19th century, early 20th century. What exactly do you expect now? Now all culture is cheap pop and Tiktok trends, the fact that this stupidity has not spread to Russia is an achievement for this nation. Can you name a German writer from recent years? Or a French philosopher? The "good" culture died after World War II. The main problem in Russia is a lack of a culture of production. In the Soviet Union, scientists were busy with their research, but never used their discoveries to establish commercial companies. An excellent example is the laser industry: Russian scientists were pioneers in laser science, and were responsible for some of the most important discoveries in the field. The Russian contribution was not only great but extraordinary, as the Russians studied the laser from its most basic theoretical foundations to its practical applications, it's very likely that without Russia, the development of the laser, which is now one of the most important technologies in the world (communication, medicine, automotive industry, etc.) would have been delayed by several decades. However, Russia never utilized its potential in the field. The Americans make billions from it every year (thanks to Russian immigrants) while the Russians still have nothing. High power semiconductor laser diode was invented by a Russian scientist (dmitri Garbuzov), today it's used in laser printers and fiber communication. The invention is Russian, but the patent? An American, Garbuzov immigrated to the USA and produced lasers for American factories. IPG photonics is one of the largest laser manufacturers in the world. It started as a pioneering company in fiber lasers, and sold its lasers to many industries in the world. The company was established as a factory in Russia, but then moved to the USA together with many Russian workers. Again - the invention is Russian, the money to America.

I'm surprised how many young Polish people speak English so well and fluently.
Young people don't speak good English compare to Scandinavian Germany etc. Compared to south Europe it's ok. People in this interview are not random, he have to chose someone with communicative English obviously.
@@pio7763 I am not sure about Germany, but I visited Vienna and it was pretty hard to find someone with English on communicative level, mostly only their muslim people could speak English, native people in Vienna when they speak some English, they have such a crazy german accent, that anyway you don't understand. In Poland, I had no problem with English at all. Ofcourse older people don't speak English, but as a Czech, I could communicate at least somehow with them, it's not ideal, but they understand something, but use English is mostly better.

Feel you sis, because of nasty politics, normal people are divided and prohibited to avoid politics. I was in Russia few years ago for 3 months, although in moscow i experienced hate, im in love with Petersburg, its people and russia near ukrainian border. Me and bf wanted to visit siberia and Petersburg again but it is impossible now and probably for another years to come. I hate russian politicians, army, police and their supporters what they are doing to ukraine and their own people and country is unforgivable but i also know that there are many great normal Russians. Sadly, the western media are trying to present everything in black and white colours like all Russians are bad etc. But the world is never black- white, the majority is always between, in many shades of grey.
@@parziiich Of course there are Russians who are against the war, Putin's policies. But unfortunately, most Russians have their minds so damaged by Russian propaganda that they support the war in Ukraine. Russians are medieval Mongolian mentality. The 250 years of Mongol occupation was enough for the absolute power of the czar to form in Russia and as a subject to serve him faithfully. Russians do not know dissent, because they will immediately go to the gulag or get a bullet in the head.
Even in Russia, when my Polish acquaintance constantly objected because she had a different opinion, defending her rights, the Russians watching her were shocked, they did not know that such a thing could be done.
As a half-Russian half-Polish, I hope that someday this will change, and we will see how the whole world finally breathes a sigh of relief. Everyone is tired of this crap.
It will happen when Russians will drop imperial ambitions from their culture and mentality. And stop treating Poland and other ex soviet bloc countries as their sphere of influence. Or some runaway province or puppet state.

Hello from a Bulgarian girl, thanks for making this video, its interesting to see those kind of videos that capture everyday people's views and opinions, to be honest seeing those type of interviews and visiting recently Poland and Lithuania and seeing how vocally they condemn the invasion of Russia on Ukraine, I feel quite sad because I realise that if you conduct this interviews on the streets in Bulgaria or Serbia you will get a totally different response and be surprised how many young people blindly look up to the Russian state or more like the idea of it they have in their head.. I have studied history and the more you learn about the past of this part of Europe even before USSR, the more you understand how incredibly complex it all is and why we have those conflicts and differences in views between young and old generations and between different ethnic and cultural groups, but in any case the saddest part is that as long as there is ignorance there will be division, as long as there is division there will be conflicts and as long as that's the case innocent people will get hurt..
thank you for your comment. I'm from Moscow and I like to come here from time to time and read new comments. I'm really sorry that quite close and similar peoples have such complicated relationships. I would like to visit Bulgaria someday, good luck to you
But why is it sad when people in Serbia and Bulgaria have a different opinion?
Well my point is that at some point in history, every country has been cruel, even the most innocent nowadays. And also no, I dont hate USA or Nato but they dont really seem to like us very much.

Serbia had more issues with Russia than any other Ex-Yu state. Not saying they weren't supportive on some matters, though.

I am from Bulgaria but let's speak the truth. Americans and they did wars and military operations in other countries like Syria/Afghanistan/Vietnam/Libya and many others.

@@Krasa4613 NATO has already admitted that they are not moving to the borders for security purposes, you know that after the collapse of the USSR, an agreement was signed that NATO would not expand to the east, and now what? Was Russia a threat in the 90s? Throughout history, Western countries do not like Russia and the USSR, you want to tear up the USSR and now Russia because of resources. No one denies this from the officials. Western countries did not like communists because they broke capitalism, a system that allowed corruption to exist, deplete other countries, suck money out of them. And now that the USSR has collapsed, they want to break up Russia, for the sake of oil, uranium gas, etc. But they can't do it just because of nuclear weapons, so they are trying to do it with information waves, trying to zombie the population. I as a Finn really dislike Russia as a state. To me the Russian state always represents a threat first and foremost.
I also always hear about how the Russian culture is so great etc. but to me it seems that their culture was great for a pretty short period and has since declined and totally perished even. Or can you name any recent Russian cultural exports, like movies, plays, books, music, philosophy or basically anything else that could be called as a cultural export? Any new trends coming out of Russia? Anything coming out of Russia? Products, tech ...anything?
I have no opinion of the Russian ordinary folk, I have no contact to any of them and I would need to know many to evaluate if they are nice or not. I suspect them to be ordinary people, so not bad or good, as I don't believe people's character depends on their nationality.
I do suspect Russian to have a at least a somewhat different world view though from me, no matter what they think of their own state, but I guess that's unavoidable 🤷
As a Swede I see Russian submarines all the time here

Well I'm not ignorant of other countries. And I'm just not inrerested in finding out about Russia more than what I already know. I'm sorry, but there's a big list of countries more worthy of getting to know better.
Как русский, хочу поблагодарить всех иностранцев за честность.
As a Mexican, I love both countries.

It's funny because when I lived in Russia about 7 years ago if you asked the question "Which country would you not want to live in?" then almost all Russians would answer North Korea haha, but for some reason, for the Poles, Russia is more terrible than North Korea, although in connection with recent events, I believe Russia really has a greater danger to the world than North Korea. Although I would not be afraid of Russia with its 140 million old people, but rather young China with 1,400 million. Russia cannot capture the European Union, for example, but China is quite likely.
