When I played this (Arkham VR) and hit the credits, the first thing I thought was "Wow. That was a very detailed tutorial. I can't wait to get into the game!". I legit thought was just a very long tutorial cause we were still learning things. I was so disappointed and sad I spent money on it.
I can’t recall how long I spent on the game, but I ended up getting 100% as well. And, I enjoyed every bit! I’ve found myself disagreeing with Luke more and more lately…
27:00 Really? It's not that hard. This game is a dream, the Joker blood is beginning to infect Bruce, and therefore the Joker is invading his dreams. He's in Joe Chills cell because it's a misdirect. You've seen joe chill already, you thought you were going to see him again, instead you see someone you weren't expecting. Also probably just a reference to the 89' Tim Burton film, where the Joker is the killer instead of Joe Chill.
Exactly! This blew me and everyone I showed it to away back when it came out, I don’t think it’s fair to judge it in this way now that it’s been so long.
The only other Super Hero VR game I thought surpassed Arkham VR was Iron Man VR. Could you imagine if they made a Batman VR game more like that? It would be incredible!!
@@Goldenbane Chiming in from the future (November, 2024), and now you can! Arkham Shadows is legit, a full Arkham game, and some of the most gaming fun I've had all year.

Especially at the tine It was an awesome experience. This is an overly pessimistic take in my opinion. Its just a fun tech demo and they manage to make a cohesive thing out of it.
I fully disagree. In 2016 we already had games like Job Simulator, Super-hot, and Rec Room showing VR was not only capable of action but impressive; not to mention Fallout 4 VR was announced 4 months before and Skyrim VR 4 months later, so it's not like VR ports of 360 games were impossible either so why not Arkham Asylum VR?. With Rocksteady's track record of Arkham games leading up to Arkham VR's release I was expecting a short 5-10 level, linear story add on with a detective section, stealth section, combat section, exploration and final boss; things VR games already had in 2016 since VR was actually "brand spanking new" in 2012 when Oculus first announced the Oculus DK1 Rocksteady should of been able to make this game just as good if not better than every other Arkham game and gave us a $49 Xbox Kinect game instead. (Yes, at launch at least in Canada Arkham VR was $49 and is now $39. and both now and then you could of bough the Arkham Trilogy for the same price) I bought it at release, beat the whole game, while dicking around and finding easter egg's/secrets, and sharing the headset with a friend in an hour and 25 minutes, refunded it, and never touched it since.
10:30 Not a budgetary constraint, more like a stomach one. Showing those movements would result in instant vomit from 90% of people. Seriously be glad they didn’t show it
Damn if this is your first vr experience you got the short end of the stick. If you stick with vr just a little more and get better games you’ll definitely get an experience none the likes you’ve ever felt before. Also you’re lookin kinda snazzy.
I bought a used copy on ebay for like 7 bucks and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I think it was a lot more fun than you made it out to be. A big part of that may have just been my fascination with VR but I got a real kick out of just messing around in the world of Batman
Counterpoint: Got it mad cheap (10 bucks), smoked a blunt and played it. As a Batman stan, it geeked me the f*ck out. Listen, some people pay more than 10 bucks to see a movie. I paid ten bucks to live one. If it didn't work for you, so be it. But for some of us, it was the closest we will ever get to putting on the cowl and I think you're being a little harsh on it. My two cents. I will see myself out.
I recommend you play twd: saints and sinners, it’s like a semi open world story driven/ choice driven twd game but in vr. Also I’m pretty sure you can kill every quest giver if you don’t want to do the story for some (bloodthirsty) reason.
I think the choice to have you teleport around is due to how free walking movement has a higher chance of motion sickness in players because of the disconnect of seeing movement with your eyes without your body moving. Teleportation is pretty standard in these sorts of things.
The game is basically Batman having a nightmare sometime before Arkham Knight. Him realizing the Jokers poisoned blood from Arkham City is affecting his mind and what’ll happen if he doesn’t find a cure - how his friends and eventually Gotham will be in danger.

Here is my unrelated comment about the game itself, but about VR. I sort of feel sad for not having one, VR is the next big thing since the jump from 2d to 3d. Back then you would get a ps1 and everything was new, you have games with no standard controls we have today, like Echo night, which was a first player game you look up and down with R1 and L1, but, there was something great about experiencing something unique, something people haven't done before, seeing how developers might be struggling(not that we would know that back then) to make a new tech work. I like 'bad' games like that, when it's not a product of laziness but of pioneering. I feel left out from that with VR, we get games that already are setting standards like Half Life and games like these. But I think they are all important for the legacy of a new tech.
32:55 People complain about boss battles in Knight so did I shortly after the release. But it makes sense narratively, Batman was the main boss of the game. No one else was able to beat him in previous games anyway. Only Batman could beat Batman.
Batman: Arkham Shadow (2024) On May 1, 2024 a reveal trailer was released for Batman: Arkham Shadow. It was announced the game would be exclusive to the Meta Quest 3. It is set to be released in late 2024. The game serves as a direct sequel to Batman: Arkham Origins, with Roger Craig Smith returning as Batman for the first time in 4 years.
Maybe the joker being in Joe Chills cell is implying that the Joker IS Joe Chill, kinda like how the Keaton batman Joker twist was laid out. Just a thought.
I bought a quest 2 3 month ago, got myself a few quest games as well as a couple pc vr game... And the only thing i've played so far is H3VR's take and hold mode... I already spent over a hundred hours on it; barely touched my other games ;v...
I could keep complaing... disappointed about the traverse mechanic we arrive. Leaving the body could make sense he leaves it and no one knows he was there and gets the jump.
I honestly feel like this was such a letdown. Like those simple things like traveling between points could’ve been easily fixed (I think) with a scripted transition. Letting people watch or control the Batmobile or Batwing travel would’ve been far more interesting as well. These little scripted transitions could’ve really made the game better, but they just decided not to have it. I haven’t played it, but from what I heard, it’s like having Spider-Man VR but every time you web-sling, you just teleport-that’s just so underwhelming!
I love your critiques even for games that I'm not interested in and will never play. If I could afford to give to your patreon I would. Thank you for making these!
