Yeaaaaah, that was an inside joke between me and my roommates while we were playing through the game. I guess I forgot to clarify that before saying it like 50 times in the video, OOPS. My bad ;P
Luke Stephens that’s why you have to reply to every comment mentioning it with an excuse. Just admit you got them mixed up. Jokes are funny. Calling one character by another’s name isn’t really funny.
35:40 Bruh what are you saying? I watch Spider-Man to see him juggle Peter’s life/career and Spider-Man’s. Not for big flashy boss fights those are icing.
THANK YOU! Damn, it's so frustrating when people talk about the Peter Parker aspect of the character as if it was a drag for the Spider-Man aspect, when both are equally important. It's when you fail to portray that dichotomy when you have no right to handle the property, not when you fail to portray a cool fight scene.
In Batman, he's Batman the whole game because Bruce Wayne died in the alley with his parents, Bruce is just another resource for Batman. Bruce is his mask. Spider-Man is opposite. Peter Parker has a life to balance, people to be there for. If anything my complaint would be that there wasn't enough peter parker, more of him missing commitments and regular struggle to do what he does while building a life
.....you know this is a video game right? I don’t think you do. You watch or read a Spiderman story for those things YOU DON’T PLAY IT. I don’t want to play as Peter doing mundane task it’s not fun or entertaining (which is what all games should be). Keep Peter relegated to cutscenes.
EXACTLY!!!!!! That's why Spider-Man was so good! It told a relatable story about a kid just trying to get by, a kid who just so happened to be Spider-Man!
Swagruto Uzumaki no he’s wrong because I only like the fights in Spider-Man movies and games. There is no right and wrong way to consume entertainment so you and all the other drama geeks are just as “wrong” for liking Spider-Man for anything but the cool fights
@@a.g.m8790 you're mixing what you like about the character with the characters actual INTENT. An UNDERSTANDING of Spiderman as a character. Not what you like about the character. Spidey's intent as a character is to be relatable. He was written with this in mind thus anything that focuses strictly on the fighting and explosions (like the guy said) doesn't understand spiderman on a core fundamental level. I like the fights and stuff but it's not what makes spiderman spiderman. What I like about the character is different from what the fundamental points of the character actually are.
Her saying “I never wanted to” doesn’t mean she didn’t have a legitimate reason for leaving him. She can want him there, but be aware that their relationship is unhealthy and that she needed to take a step back.
sure i get the message and emotions they are trying to convey but phrasing it as "I never stopped wanting to" is just weird, maybe that's a usual phrase for americans, but i can't think of a lot of contexts where i would actually say that phrase. btw: I do realise that this is nitpicking, they wanted to at least give that relationship a happy ending and it's not really a problem to me, again it's the sort of "oh its the end so now we work it out" stuff you see in hollywood all the time
I have to remember that the writers of this game are probably schlubs who all reminisce about the "One that got away" and this is them playing out their fantasy of the damsel returning after being ran through by powerful New York businessmen.
35:50 You actually unironically said they have no right to make a Spider-Man game because one small aspect of it is weak. Never mind the swinging, combat, writing, story, music, graphics, nah...you have to get the boss fights right or you can't make a Spider-Man game. What an stupid statement.
@@timtale2404 there are certain boss fights in the Arkham games that are superior to Spider-Man's boss fights. But they aren't very consistent in making good boss fights. They even made some dissapointing ones here and there. Origins had the best boss fights in the series imo. Arkham knight hardly had any good boss fight, it was very dissapointing. I only wish the boss battles in Spider-Man are challenging though. Even in the toughest difficulty I didn't find them that hard, like the Valkyrie boss battles in God of War . Like even if you figured out how to beat the boss it is still a tough nut to crack. Also they could improve with the stealth missions . Next game we have Miles as well and he can turn invisible so that offers a lot of new possibilities. I hope they improve on those aspects but otherwise I loved the game. Can't wait for the sequel😇
@@dilipcastro9784 Origins did not have the best boss fights. Only deathstroke and one of the bane fights were good. The rest were lazily copied from arkham city with worse villains.

Slightly disagree on the backpacks with you. Yeah the cats are boring but the backpacks are cool. They have Peter narrating everysingle one and bringing back memories like e.g having some sand in a tubefrom sandman fight and he wonders if sand man would get out if he opens it

Since when 100%ing a game after 30 (30 fucking hours) is a bad thing? I think we have reached a point as gamers that we have been spoiled badly. I would rather have 30 hours of beautifully crafted Spider-Man than 100 hours of just for the sake of it RPG Assassin's Creed Origins.
Chris Gelekis I agree with you. I don’t think we have been spoilt though, I just think people wrongly gauge a game by how many hours it takes instead of how good the game actually is. Don’t get me wrong, if it’s a $60 game then 6 hours isn’t going to cut it. Like Hellblade; Senuas Sacrifice is a small, 8 hour game for like $20 which is fine because it’s a high quality game. Yet 30 hours of quality is absolutely fine in a $60 game. I’d prefer that than 60 hours of mediocre, boring content.
To say that Assassin's Creed games arent beautifuly crafted also is just flat out wrong. There is a lot more fluff there too but the world especially are one of the best ones in gaming. 30 hours to 100% an open world game IS kinda bad. Its not a big gripe but most people want more when buying this type of game. Its perfectly acceptable for a game like God of War to have that runtime since there are only a few sidequests and the map is only a tad open.
Perhaps I phrased it wrong..the just for the sake of it and not beautifully crafted was about the side quests in ACO that contributed to the overall of a 100 hours..they were laughably plain and almost the same in terms of approach (find him, kill him) which resulted in them being a drag. In contrast the backpacks or the research stations for example added new layers to the game. The former adding to the lore with past situations Peter has been in and the latter to the variety of missions in game. And these are just two examples.
Chris Gelekis dude that’s a great thing. Sometimes I want something I can chew on for 150 hours but if every game was like that it would be absolutely obnoxious and exhausting. Spider-Man knows it’s lane and I appreciate that.
Gotta say, I think you whiffed hard with the Peter/MJ scene at the end. "I never stopped wanting to" means exactly what it sounds like: she didn't stop loving him or wanting to be with him, but she felt smothered by what she felt was his overprotective nature. At this point in the story, she's feeling like perhaps they can strike a balance.
But that also makes it look like she’s going against what she wants. 6 months of awkwardness and arguing when they could’ve just worked through it without breaking up and tried striking that balance. If neither of them wanted to break up, it’s really just a waste of time to do so. People argue and then make up. The same happens with couples, not relationship is perfect and working through it is what helps get through it
@@ryantony7743 yeah, but we see that even after she tells him that she doesn’t want to be treated like a damsel in distress, Pete still does it (like when he knocks out the doctor in the tent as she’s about to get info from him.) Granted, MJ is pretty reckless, but if neither of them can compromise -even though they eventually learn to through better communication, then a break-up isn’t ‘a waste of time’ regardless of if you still love that person and want to be with them. Taking a break because they’re at an impasse was actually probably healthiest. Having some time apart to reflect on their own actions helped them learn to compromise for each other, instead of staying together and letting resentment fester.
@@ryantony7743 So, have you never observed how actual relationships go in the real world, because, the Peter-M.J. breake-up and reconciliation was pretty damned realistic.
@@slimkt like it or not she is a damsel in distress. There's multiple times in the game's story where she'd be dead if peter wasn't there, also the reason Peter knocked the guy out in the tent was because he saw that he had a gun pointed at her. MJ in this game is one of the most unlikable incarnations of the character that exists.
No he’s right, had to get all the secret landmarks for the platinum and you need a skill for it to show. The normal landmarks are the only ones to appear when you do the radio signals
How is your interpretation of the Peter & MJ scene at the end so wrong?! Clearly she meant that she had never stopped wanting to be with Peter but they had never found a way to make their relationship work. Like you said, the reason their relationship hadn’t worked was because she wanted to be treated more as an equal than as a “damsel in distress”. Peter letting her be more involved in things during the game, allowing her to be a lot more privy to what he is doing and allowing her to use her skill set as a journalist to take an active role in his life as Spider-Man proves his (somewhat reluctant) acknowledgement of this. With this change then leading to her promotion at work, she now literally and figuratively is a lot more empowered and taken seriously by Peter, and this is why she is now willing to give their relationship another shot. That’s what I got from the story anyway!
Yes!!! The problem wasn't that she fell out of love with him and he got her back, they always had feelings for each other they just weren't on the same page in how they wanted to live with each other.
@@frogglen6350 Doesn't matter in the end. No body wants to live in a golden cage, even if it's for their own protection. He has to learn to let her live.
I have to completely disagree with you on the boss fight criticisms, especially the Doc Ock fight. Boss fights can be made by the gameplay. But, they can also be made by their context. To make an amazing one you need to do both. The Doc Ock fight does this. It's very difficult for free-flow combat systems to do boss fights because it is so clearly not built for that. It's built to be able to manage multiple enemies at once, without being ungodly difficult. Which is why the boss fights are so impressive from that point. But they are actually good fights (ignoring the Li fight on the train which is just a watered down QTE). Less so on the side of the building but the rooftop fight is brilliant. You can swing around the central tower to dodge his attacks, you can straight up dodge his attacks, you can use the environment, your gadgets can be used to either disable his arms or stun him, you can use regular attacks and you can use finishers. The final fight allows us to use everything the game has given us to fight the biggest enemy. On the side of the building this is different. Because of the narrative we have only our powers to rely on. Strictly as gameplay this is bad. It would suck to play Spider-Man without webs. BUT as a narrative point it is perfect. You are forced into an un-ideal situation and you feel it. But more importantly it allows the emotions to fuel the scene. Peter is forced to use fists, he puts all of his weight into each punch and the camera is much closer. Everything is done to bring the fight closer and ground it. No more cool flips or acrobatic manoeuvres just two men coming to blows. Not to mention this entire point in the video rests on what feels like a very snooty view of boss fights and how they SHOULD be. Unfortunately I can't speak directly to the creator as he didn't give an example of what a good boss fight looks and plays like, so I'm forced to use examples of games and fights regarded to have good bosses. Dark Souls is all about bosses. But in my opinion they have awful boss fights. Not because they're too easy, hell no, but because they're bland, visually and mechanically. You hit or you dodge and that's it. The difficulty comes entirely from your opponent, not you. You have to read the opponent, wait until safe then strike. Rinse and repeat. With the Ock fight you have a variety of ways to steer the fight through your actions. You can be passive by waiting for attacks to dodge OR you can be aggressive by throwing the environment or using gadgets to disable him. Another, in my opinion better, boss fight comes from God of War where you fight The Stranger. Like Dark Souls the opponent has a set amount of attacks with tells that allow you to dodge in time but none too overt that it's child's play to avoid. However, the player also has a wide array of ways to dictate the course of the fight, throwing the axe and melee attacking to disrupt the opponent as well as parrying attacks to leave the opponent open. These are all things that the Ock fight and so both should be praised similarly. But that's the rooftop section of the fight. What about fighting him on the side of a building? Is there anything similar to that? Well, yeah. Returning to God of War the final fight with Baldur, as well as when he is escaping on his dragon, is very much like that. Both give you limited options in order to focus on the scene and the moment rather than the "play" aspect. It works fantastically in God of War in both examples. The first is when you and Baldur grapple with each other, having to dodge left or right, regaining top mount position and pummeling them. It takes your options away to pull you into a much closer and devastating fight. The other example is free falling with Atreus and Baldur. This is a QTE which everyone screams is BAD NO GOOD LAZY but here is used well. It gives us a clear way to see Kratos and Atreus are working together. This is not possible to do feasibly in gameplay. Up to this point they had hoped that you learned to use Atreus well but because he is largely AI and fallible making you reliant on him is a huge gamble. So, of course, it's completely possible to best Baldur without using Atreus. But the QTE means that even if you don't want to use him you see that the two have grown. Specifically this is a case that shows us an element of character that cannot be specifically SHOWN in gameplay alone because players DO NOT act they way they are "supposed to." They miss hints, forget mechanics and are stubborn to being told how to play. So to express a point it often has to be forced to make the story. This is what Spider-Man does excellently. They force the player to leave Peters acrobatic finesse to deliver what would be knockout blows to a person he loved and trusted. They couldn't show this any other way. The camera is thrown right into Peter's back and you feel the exhaustion: emotional and physical. You can't do that any other way. And yes it's repetitive. Almost every boss fight is to some degree (excluding Arkham's Mr. Freeze fight) but sometimes gameplay has to take a step back to make the story shine. To draw a well-known film comparison to...well compare, let's look at Star Wars. Which fight is better? Obi-Wan vs Anakin, or Luke vs. Vader? Most people would say Luke vs. Vader. Why? Is it the choreography? Of course not. Ep 3 had amazing and visually impressive choreography. Was it setting? Not likely. It's hard to top fighting on a volcano planet with collapsing structures. No it's good because of the context and emotions that we see. The Doc Ock fight keeps the setting and spectacle: a battle on the side of a building, rain buffeting each man. But they strip away the flashy crap to give us a grounded (or walled) emotional battle between a former colleague, mentor and father-figure. That's what makes it a fantastic boss fight. You got your cake: an acrobatic dance atop a skyscraper, slinging webs and pylons at a foe. But you can eat it too: a stripped down slug fest on the side of a building. Sorry for the mini-essay but I had to post.
I get what your saying but at the same time you don't have to be creative at all to win the boss fight, you can basically do the same things over and over again and still win, even on the hardest difficulty its like that. Now if it was kinda like the freeze fight in arkham city but a head on fight then that would be really cool cuz you can't just repeat the same things over and over again.
By not being very good at the job, like this guy. he has a distant relationship with the English language( he thinks that " Reinventing the wheel" and " Trying to be different" are the same thing, when they are opposites. ) He doesn't understand the character of Spider-man/ Peter Parker. Sorry man, but this critique is filled with misinformation and also shows off that you didnt pay attention or didnt bother to invest yourself into many facettes. Thats fine for a casual look, not for a in-depth critique however.
This whole "critique" is just a mismatched collage of personal opinion, inaccurate information, and a fundamental misunderstanding of who Spider-Man is, passed off as an objective truth about this game. Like 80% of the "flaws" he talks about are just a matter of personal opinion.
@@unlimitedhearts Personal opinion is fine in this kind of critique, it is in fact almost unavoidable. As long as it is prefaced as an opinion it should be fine. The real issue is the misinformation based on either not doing the research or not actually paying attention to the game. When he says Doc Ock's plans and fall were not set up well and that it would have been better if we could for example see something in the lab that would show us how he prepared for all of that stuff - even claiming we only get some exposition in the place where the Sinister Six gear was made - I had to facepalm.
All his critiques are bad, I really hated his fallout new Vegas critique, he got many things wrong and even though I loved the game, he was just praising it and did not give any good criticisms
I did the backpacks in one sitting once I got the first one as well. A collectible placed in a lived in and pretty damned good representation of New York with a fast paced and really fun system of maneuvering through it topped off with a collectible that offers you a little piece of history of Spider-Man and the New York he lives in every single time you get one? That collectible sounds better than almost anything in any open world game released in the past few years. I could see if you just didn’t like collectibles in games but some of your fav games are the Assassin’s Creed titles, arguably the king of useless collectibles. I respect your take on it but it leaves me confused big time
I was looking through the comments to see if anyone would mention him saying ‘Green-witch’. I don’t know about in the U.S, but the area of London that Greenwich is presumably named after is pronounced ‘Grenich’.
This game... This game makes me wish I could go back in time to visit 10 year old me and tell him his dreams will come true. This game is everything I dreamt as a kid, and then some. I remember playing (and enjoying) Spiderman and Spiderman 2 on PS1 and thinking about all the things I wish could be improved to make an even better experience. Lots of years later, I got that game. The Spiderman game I waited for a long time. What a breathtaking experience. By the way, this is my first Spiderman game since the PS1 era, so imagine how amazed I was by the huge leap in quality in pretty much every aspect of the game.
I know this video is old so this comment will probably go unnoticed but I had a few thoughts I wanted to share to give a different outlook I really like your channel and think you do a great job overall analyzing games but there are a few things here that I wanted to point out that I personally disagree with, although to make things clear I do agree with a lot of your points, I just wanted to offer a few counters just for the sake of friendly discussion and to maybe help you see things in a different light 1. people have already mentioned in the comments how the last scene with MJ and Peter is more nuanced than you may have initially believed, as it indicates that their desires remained constant since whenever they first started dating, they never stopped WANTING to be together, but the conflicts that are addressed in the game were the reason they NEEDED to not be together 2. I think Otto knew Peter was spiderman since the beginning, when he saw Peter working on the suit, but he made the conscious decision to not let on and instead act like he thinks peter is spiderman's suit designer because its clear to him that its important to Peter that his identity remains a secret, so to give Peter peace of mind he decides to act oblivious. The reason he doesnt bring it up until the end is because telling peter he knows hes spiderman would cause peter to be less trusting towards him (since peter would wonder why doc initially acted like he didnt know anything) and would also make peter feel more threatened by the mere existence of Otto as his personal stakes would now be higher. Essentially, bringing it up would do Otto no good and could potentially cause peter to lose sympathy for him, so Doc had absolutely no reason to let on. At the end he loses all reservations and sees peter isnt gonna let up regardless so he lets him know as a method of getting into peters head. Thats my take at least 3. I agree that the bosses were lackluster for the most part, although that did almost nothing to ruin my enjoyment of the game (improved bosses would still obviously be a very welcome addition to the next game however), but in my mind the fight with Otto is supposed to be more intellectual than physical. It would have been nice to have a more enjoyable final boss fight mechanically but I see Doc as an intellectual rival to peter, as well as a test of his morals. The real fight is the emotions peter goes through (which is why I believe they put so much emphasis on story and dialogue when the fight is going on) and the REAL real fight is their discussion at the end after Otto has already been defeated physically. I think the emotional side accounts to over half the "boss battle" and although its not what one typically thinks of while thinking of what a boss battle should be, I think this is pretty unique in that sense and that shouldn't be overlooked. The biggest thing I can agree with when mentioning the flaws of the game btw is the endgame content/side stuff, the endgame is bare and I wish there was more to do because I love almost every mechanic the game has and wanted a better excuse to continue playing than "punch a handful of thugs who are committing crimes, by the way it basically accomplishes nothing". All the collectibles and such are not terrible in my opinion, and I don't find it boring because the traversal is so fun, but I'd rather have more side content thats genuinely enjoyable rather than simply "not boring", especially since for some people it does cross the line to boring which is a shame. They almost shot themselves in the foot cause they made something so enjoyable to play but only gave you a reason to play it for a dozen or so hours. I don't need a super long main game, I like the length of the story, but if they find a way to make non-main game stuff more exciting it would be really appreciated (the exception in this game is the properly fleshed out side missions, those are fun and have enjoyable villains). Oh, also, I agree secret photo ops are not an enjoyable endgame thing but considering theyre, well, secret, I don't think it makes sense to critique the game on not making it obvious where they are. Just wanted to point that out cause it was the only point you made that flat out didnt make any sense to me Overall I think the video is still great and it's a bit of a shame it got dragged in the comments since I don't think people quite realize how difficult it is to make an hour long critique of the game based mainly on your experience and to not miss any small details or misread a few things, its totally fair for people to point out their issues with the video but I think it's irrational to be so harsh and upset at a few mistakes and not acknowledge the 50+ minutes of the video that didnt include those issues. Again, not sure if this'll be noticed but Just had a few thoughts and wanted to both let you know what I think you may have overlooked but also that I think you're doing a great job and you're clearly getting better and better as this channel goes on, and I wish you all the best
Also “people don’t want a Peter Parker story” he talks about how people want spider man for the big out there bad guys & it makes it come across as if he’s just missing the point of the character and story
22:00 it's an ability you get with skill points that gives you more focus at higher combo counts. Unless you tested this without the ability? There's also an ability that gives you more focus for timing your hits instead of mashing attack. The game doesn't scream it at you, but if you read the abilities before spending points on them I feel like that's enough conveyance.

I for one loved the MJ and Miles sections, as they are the only parts of the game where the mechanics slow down and you actually get a chance to explore levels thoroughly, rather than just fly through an open city at 100 kph. Osbournes Apartment was maybe my favourite level in the game, because of the amount of lore and foreshadowing and exploration it uses.
I agree. It sometimes wasn't clear where the game wanted you to go which was kind of frustrating considering you literally have no weapons on hand as Miles or MJ and the threats increase tenfold, but I liked taking a break from Spider-Man and I never felt drained when I knew a stealth section was coming, I usually just smiled at the fact. EDIT: MJ does get a stun gun but I for one was too scared to use it in case the enemies found one of their friends passed out
Honestly I thought they were awful, especially MJ's. The only one I liked was the Miles one where he finds his Dad's body, made that scene a lot more powerful. Other than that they were so boring to me, the stealth sections were just terrible. The apartment was ok now that you say it, but still not too great. You don't explore in most of them either, just a shitty stealth section
@@Name-fd2co Exactly, lol. You would have to be on some serious drugs to find any enjoyment in those time patted sections. Boring as hell and just awful game design.
The ps2 Spidey game also pioneered that combat system that arkham games would become known for. In this new game the combat is so deep I pretty much never use my standard square combo. I'm webbing dudes left and right and throwing them around and at each other and up in the air which then becomes a whole other level to the combat
@@joelmiller2601 press a button to counter an incoming attack regardless of distance or current ongoing animations. Yea Arkham ripped it right out of Spiderman 2. They just made it better
Swagruto Uzumaki no they didn’t. The Spider-Man 2 system was a combo based system. You’d mix your combos (as in button combos) that you unlocked throughout the game. In fact the counter button was a dodge button that you’d get the option to counter by buying it. The Arkham system is based on Rhythm. It gives you automatic counters and you really only have to press one button to do everything automatically. In spiderman 2 pressing one button would only lead to a simple 3 hit combo. Seriously did you even play the game? It’s nothing close to the Arkham games.
I agree about the bad boss fights and about the repetitive side quests. But I am the kind of person who stopped the main story and did the backpacks, and I can't explain it but I had so much fun doing that. And you do need to respect the fact that finding a backpack isn't just a token, you also receive an information about the story and that was main second motive to complete the backpack All in all I really liked this game, one of the best games I have ever played

I kept playing the game after i 100% the to just swing around. While swinging the secret photo will show up on the minimap and I was able to get all fifty photos without even trying
I think Mary Jane's line "I never stopped wanting to" was more of a "I wished we didn't break up at the time, but we had to" kind of lines, not just a dumb "why did they break up then?" moment
I think what MJ was trying to say was that she didn't want to break up with Peter but realized that she needed to find out where she stood with him being very protective of her. Even if it is unrealistic i can understand how she could feel inferior to him and i think she voiced this well when she said she wanted to "do the saving to" when he has always saved her. Unrealistic yes but understandable in her situation.
Dude, the narrative IS the game. 30 hours to do everything is the perfect length for a game. 20 hours of story, 10 for collectables and side missions. Perfect. Anything beyond that and a game wont hold my attention long enough after the narrative to bother getting 100% on it unless it's in reach when I finish the narrative. As far as I'm concerned, once you finish the narrative, you've beaten the game.
Interesting...You never mentioned or compared other swinging mechanics in the series in what you could do with them other than use Spider-Man 2 general swinging. Disappointing to see you never went in depth at all...
1:01:47 That's not what she said actually, at all. She said that she never really stopped wanting to be with Peter which doesn't mean that they broke up for no reason. You can break up with someone and not really wan't but you feel like you have too. MJ felt like Peter was coddling her and while she may not have wanted to break up with Peter she felt like she needed to because she couldn't stand what she felt was Peter being overprotective. That doesn't mean the whole thing was for nothing. Like you said they learned how to deal with the issue and now that there's nothing holding them back their relationship can blossom again.
I dont think the rating constrains the game at all you can tell a darker story without a rated R or M just look at the Dark Knight that's PG13 and that movie gets really intense.
@Grim reaper Exactly why do you believe the Dark Knight to be more PG. I'm genuinely curious. I remember seeing it when I was younger and being terrified. I also saw it again about 2 years ago, and I really don't think that it is close to a PG rating.
I’d like to make a quick correction, all of the landmarks are on your map when you activate the radar things in Manhattan. I took a picture of every single landmark in one go while I was under level 20
Luke, just wanted to reach out and say I really enjoy your critique videos. I enjoy how you look at the games in depth and provide your own perspective also while staying at an objective point of view. I do my own sort of examining and exploring a game and its systems and story and characters the way you do, I just do not make videos about it. So I think it is great that someone else shares their thoughts and opinions on a game at a deeper level and taking a look at why it is that way. Not just like most other reviews or commentaries that say something sucks but do not give a legit reason why other than it being stupid. You do all of this while still being entertaining and fun to listen to, and I applaud you for that. For me, these critique video allow to connect with a game on an even deeper level, and also point out to me some things I may have missed in my play through or multiple playthroughs of a game. All in all, I really enjoy the critique videos and I know they take lots of time and effort to make, and that does not go unnoticed. Keep up the great work and thank you once again. I also have a few ideas for critique videos if you were looking for some.
They nailed the ending of this game perfectly. I am in emotional wreck every single time. The story gets to me it’s not always about a perfect boss battle or something like that sometimes you just get sucked into the story itself. Personally I love the boss fight with Doc because it is so perfectly story driven
So. Mile's father dying. Aunt May dying. Peter in a rough relationship with Mary Jane, betrayed by Ock, and terrorist attacks on NY that result in in-game deaths are just " patting dark issues on the head"???
@@frogglen6350 Peter and Mary Jane's issues recur throughout the game, and Mile's father's death comes up multiple times following the event about halfway through the game. I'll agree on Aunt Mae as this happened at the very end of the game, but, the rest, you are wrong. You can miss it if you don't pay attention to cut scenes of Pete and MJ or if you don't listen closely to Peter's phone conversations with Miles, but, this stuff comes up repeatedly throughout the game.
“only 30 hours of content” remember when God of war came out and it was only eight hours long? That’s one of my favorite games ever. 30 hours for a game is fantastic and it looks like we’re getting that for Spider-Man 2 as well
Oh wow, I usually love your content. This was lazy about all the collectibles. You can collect all this stuff as you play through the game and they're quite simple to find.
18:04 it makes sense not to punish players for dodging when no one is attacking for two reasons 1) from a gameplay perspective often you'll be surrounded by enemies. You'll dodge am attack towards another enemy and its instinctual to dodge again even if no attack was made. 2) spider man in combat flips around and uses his agility as a weapon. Dodging towards enemies with guns and then striking felt like a spider man thing to do
The doc oc battle was alright, its a lot more fun if you use your gadgets to stun him instead of throwing the concrete back. That's why you were given the resupply ability. It used the things you used through the whole game in a different, final way
I also go around and get as many of the collectibles as possible as soon as they’re introduced. It doesn’t feel like a chore whatsoever I can get it done in a few minutes and continue on with the story. I have gotten 100% platinum on this game at least four times now
I know this is an old video but I still don't understand why people feel that every game needs something to be done (Endgame) after credits, What's so wrong about enjoying a game for 20-30 hours and then moving on ?
I usually get that impression from a lot of UA-cam critics, although I guess it's because they try so hard to sound professional while also ripping in to a games faults.
I think he's well reasoned in his criticisms. Don't be so much of a fanboy that you can't admit that SOME aspects of the game were unforgiveable. Like playing MJW's parts. BORING!
Dave R I am under no illusions, I don’t think it’s a 10/10 game or anything, I also disliked the MJ and Miles sections and some bosses were poor but the enjoyment of the collectibles is subjective
Every time I see a critique by this guy I laugh and get ready for at least an hour of idiotic and untrue criticisms that are either debunked with a few seconds of thought or just have no basis in reality whatsoever. I’m so happy this guy exists because it gives me something to laugh at every now and then. “I don’t want a Spider-Man story, I want cool boss fights” is one of the most asinine criticisms about this game I’ve ever heard and it’s just so funny to hear it.
It really annoys me when people say the combat and gameplay is similar to the Arkham games when the developers for the Arkham games literally said they took a lot of inspiration from even earlier Spider-Man games🤦🏽
"I never stopped wanting too" she still loved peter and still wanted to be together but she also wanted to be his partner not a damsel in distress' and she disliked the way peter treated her like a child he had to babysit. So they broke up. Its really simple.
34:00 it's not true that you are repeating the same thing. You can either throw stuff at him or use your webs. Plus he has different attacks that you have to dodge
"This game takes a lot from the Rocksteady games." I wish it would have taken the stealth sequences and health upgrades as well. Stealth is good enough but compared to the Arkham games... yeah, the fall flat on their face. And I wish there was a way to improve spiderman's health, even on normal mode he dies way too easy sometimes. The silver sable soldiers are especially dangerous and when they take up positions on towers, they can interfere a little too often with the fun of swinging around. Also the one you fight in the bank is Shoker, not Electro. I'm a batman guy and I know this.
UA-cam thing me too. People get really blinded by nostalgia when talking about it, because even coming from me, a super fan of Spider-Man who’s my favorite superhero, they have a lot of problems.
I see where you are coming from and I love your critiques, but I have to respectfully disagree about the Dr. Oct boss fight. Even though I thought I broke the controller too lol the little side segment really hits hard when you just listen to the dialogue between Peter and Dr. Oct. And like I think that's where most of the difference of my opinion with this videos is tbh. I love seeing Spider-man go against big bad guys but what's makes Spider-man different from Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne is that at the end of the day, Spider-man, the man who could pull trains to a stop, is just a normal guy with a normal life and a probably empty fridge. Like the segment where he got evicted. That was so Peter Parker. But still enjoyed the video. Thanks for uploading!
You certainly sound like you're trying to be professional, but instead you come off as pretentious and spouting a bunch of empty words. You clearly didn't look very deep into this game and say many things that are flat out wrong, like the game trying to make you think the side quests will make you progress the main plot when that's never implied or that Spider-Man will make a remark if you ignore crimes which isn't true either. You clearly don't understand the audience this game was aimed at and the fact that treat side activities like you HAVE to do them even though you can just ignore them if you want. The fact that you complain about the game having enough content to last 30 hours just boggles my mind. You're upset that the game has enough stuff to do to give players the incentive to play longer. You take your own personal little gripes and blow them way out of proportion, making them out to be these objective flaws when they're so incredibly subjective. Oh yeah, you also go back to Spider-Man 2 on PS2, play it for half an hour and think you know enough to make a valid comparison with the latest game. Considering how uninformed and the things you get wrong about Spider-Man 2, it probably would've been best if you just left it alone instead of drawing out the video.
First, you are wrong about both of the things you said he was flat out wrong about. Both of those things are in the game, clearly. You don't like his critique, because he did just that.. critiqued it.
It builds on Spiderman 2 but borrowed HEAVILY from the Arkham games. You'd have to be blind to not see that. Spiderman 2 didn't set the benchmark for combat in games. Batman Arkham Asylum did... so it kind of makes sense for Insomniac to borrow mechanics from it.
@@mrfrench821 you'd have to be blind or not have play SM2 to not see he has the same moves, from the Dodge to the web wank and rodeo, slow mo, everything is an evolution from SM2
@@jaygarrick3582 I stand by my previous comment as it's widely regarded as a fact among the gaming community. However, it's easy to say that being as both games are based on the same character. They're not the same exact moves (I don't ever remember seeing Spidey dodge under and between someone's legs in SM2, correct me if I'm wrong). Same abilities yes but the way the combat mechanics work and how enemies react, it resembles Arkham's combat closer than it does to SM2.
@@mrfrench821 yes but it if Arkham didn't exist this Spiderman PS4 or any future game would head in that direction, it's the same for many mechanics , Batman Arkham Asylum just came out first, also the main moves you use in SMPS4 aren't in Arkham don't have an equivalent
@@jaygarrick3582 ..."but if Arkham didn't exist." Now you're speaking in hypotheticals because it DOES exist. Thanks for proving my point Mr. I like my own comments lol.. NONE of the moves in SMPS4 are in any of the Arkham games because Batman doesn't fight like Spiderman. We're talking combat mechanics and how enemies react. Not specific moves. The combat mechanics are more comparable to the Arkham games than SM2.
“When I heard that the developer was focusing on making a Peter Parker story first and a Spider-Man game second, I was very worried.” Tell me you don’t understand Spider-Man without telling me you don’t understand Spider-Man.
I really liked the ability to play the other characters because on the first play through you get to explore the world and hear conversations but then on second play through and beyond it’s really easy to rush through it so it doesn’t kill the pace. At least in my experience. Edit: I don’t think Mj’s expectations are unrealistic. I think there’s nothing wrong with her putting her life at risk. None of the cops have super powers and put themselves in the same danger as spiderman. She doesn’t need super powers to be a hero there are people who risk their life every day and there are lots of characters in the marvel universe who are superheroes without powers.
Loved the game so much (not perfect, but very good) that I platinumed it out of respect for the developers... and of course 'cause I might have been a bit addicted at the time. XD
You sir have not played this game or Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man 2: Choose which swinging mode you want (let's say easy), begin sprinting forward with the boost button while charging your jump, release charged jump and while airborne, quickly press and hold R2 to shoot out webline to nearest anchor point and swing in forward arc, let natural momentum move you forward or apply your own boost, then press X at correct moment to slingshot forward at exact angle, being careful not to smack into a building or break the webline, etc. PS4: Hold R2 and tap X repeatedly
Yeah i dont know what was he on about. Sure you get better with time and upgrades. But it takes less than a minute to be good at it. It's pretty simple
Bruh did you really complain about the secret photo-ops being a secret? Even though there is a way to make them not secret? They are a surprise reward for taking a cool photo, not an example of a collectathon.
13:03 Dude that is Shocker. A completely different person. You would notice, if you had eyes. Also concerning the dodge mechanic. Most of the time, if you misstime your dodge, you'll get facepalmed by nearest crook in the area. Which can sometimes lead to you falling back and then just taking hit after hit after hit. Thus a misplaced dodge can reduce your HP from 200 to 20 in no time.
Spider-Man fights differently than Batman. Spider-Man is always dodging and moving around which is why a dodge for no reason doesn't reset your combo. You want to feel like Spider-Man and be able to dart back and forth to throw off enemies. If they docked you for dodging at random times, it would make Spidey feel more grounded and steady.
Crazy how ppl critique a critique video. Luke's breakdowns are his breakdown, if you don't agree so be it. I myself enjoy these videos bc I don't have time to play through these 10-20hr games. His breakdowns allow me to decide if I want to take sometime and play a game.
I admit I couldn't sit through all of this because it simply makes me feel my neurons die one by one. You literally have 0 understanding of the material you are so high brow *CRITIQUING*. So many errors, lack of logic etc etc...
About the random crimes, I think they were a sort of commentary on what’s it’s like to be Spider-Man. They’re always popping up, sometimes at the most inconvenient times, then you go do it, then go back to what your were originally doing wash rinse repeat right? Well what’s one of the biggest character traits of Spider-Man and his interactions with people in his normal Peter Parker life? He’s ALWAYS CHRONICALLY LATE! Every damn time. Always because of some low level street crime too lol. One of his biggest character flaws is he has a compulsion to help everyone thats in trouble. It doesn’t matter if he has plans at 8pm, if there’s a crime happening that he’s aware of and knows he can stop one in progress or help someone out, he will. Every time. So I saw those more as a sort of Narrative/Storytelling/Character development tool without directly telling the player they are. I think Insomniac may have gone a little light in terms of meaningful side quests that do more world build could have been because this was their first huge property that they knew they had to nail almost perfectly because of how passionate Spider-Man fans are. They were put in the same boat as Rocksteady was with the Arkham games. They wanted to make sure they had the core gameplay down right so that when Spider-Man did succeed and have a sequel greenlit immediately they could go wild with more side activities since they would no longer need to focus so much time on the engine and web mechanics. However they threw some in because they didn’t want fans to feel cheated. Spider-Man Miles Morales would definitely address the quest issues we all have with this title, I’m sure of it. Also, I’m siding with your friend. The swinging mechanics were more than fun enough for me to not even care that I was just collecting backpacks. Though gotta hand it to Insomniac each backpack has Peter find a specific item in it that leads to him reminiscing about the early portions of his career and help to flesh out some of the backstory that led to where he is in this games opening.
Why does everyone seem to hate The Amazing Spider-Man's game? It was really good, damnit! The new game even took some influence from it. Also, Shattered Dimensions & Edge of time were also really good.
Scsigs the first TASM game wasn’t bad. I think people mainly forget about it because of the bad swinging mechanics since webs don’t attach to buildings
So the swinging mechanics were bad jut because the webs don't attach to buildings? That doessn't make any sense, since they were still functional & allowed you to move through the city as you needed to.
For me I felt like a pro at swinging from the beginning, from the first time it gave me control of Spiderman It felt so easy and fluid, and the first thing I did was get all the backpacks and towered because I loved swinging from the beginning of the game
I think the main reason the wall fight with dr. oct felt so exausting and repetitive is that you played the game in the hardest setting. The problem lies with the difficutly slider of the game as Ive played the game in the easiest setting (I was playing sekiro on a rotating basis so I wanted to play something more chill) and I have to say it only took me 2 or 3 hits with doct. oct which made that final confrontration more realistic. Both of them at giving their last punches its a matter of who hits first and not who can last longer.
Spider-Man comics have tackled drug addiction( way back in the 70's when other comics wouldn't touch that subject with a ten foot pole), mental conditions, loss of parents and other family, murder, child abuse, and a whole slew of other " dark content". Not Sure that Luke here has that many Spider-man comics under his belt when he says he understands a Spider-man game not digging too deep on dark subject matter.
Since there is no NG+ for Spider-Man PS4 (as of the time I'm writing this), I do think an end game is necessary towards keeping me engaged as a player. Once NG+ hits however...
sorry but i fail to understand, from when an action game that is basically story driven, must have a end game? End game is something that mmorpg or such had, or rpg after completing the main story because you have so much to explore. But this is spiderman, a very straight forward action game that once you complete, is over. What's strange in that? You don't seek an "end game" in uncharted, you don't seek an end game in souls series, or god of war, or Shadow of war, or Prototype, or Infamous. This is not the Division or Destiny, where the story purpose is upping you to the end game level requirement. This is Spiderman; the game is over, move on. Just because is open world, does not mean you must have an end game. That's a stupid criticism to say "it lacks an end game".
Shadow of war has an endgame (Finding new orc captains, collectables, side quests, etc.). Web of Shadows has an endgame (NG+). God of War PS4 has an endgame (NG+). Uncharted has an endgame (NG+). The souls franchise has extensive endgames (Bosses, DLC areas, Items, Quests, etc.). Even Spider Man PS4 has an endgame, just not one as extensive as the aforementioned games. I really was more just stressing my excitement for NG+, but I think that all games should have an end game to them, wether replayability, continuation of progress (such as the Arkham franchise), or otherwise. Games like Devil May Cry, while not long, establishes a good end game with it's immense amount of replayability. Spider Man PS4 has a decent end game, but it's lacking in comparison to the main story, with very few truly interesting side quests and little incentive to strive for collectibles. That said, I love Spider Man PS4, and I can't wait for the future updates and DLC. Sorry, I went on a bit of a rant there :)
18:30 My man, you never misplaced a dodge when fighting a brute? Cause that can sometimes just be a death sentence and if you're lucky you'll still loose the vast majority of your health. If you duck up a dodge, you get punished hard.
How did you not catch that Shocker is a different character than Electro? They say both of their names multiple times! They have different voices!
Yeaaaaah, that was an inside joke between me and my roommates while we were playing through the game. I guess I forgot to clarify that before saying it like 50 times in the video, OOPS. My bad ;P

Damn, it's so frustrating when people talk about the Peter Parker aspect of the character as if it was a drag for the Spider-Man aspect, when both are equally important.
It's when you fail to portray that dichotomy when you have no right to handle the property, not when you fail to portray a cool fight scene.
Its Peter Parker who defines Spider-Man not the other way around. Most people seem to forget or dont know that :(
In Batman, he's Batman the whole game because Bruce Wayne died in the alley with his parents, Bruce is just another resource for Batman. Bruce is his mask.
Spider-Man is opposite. Peter Parker has a life to balance, people to be there for. If anything my complaint would be that there wasn't enough peter parker, more of him missing commitments and regular struggle to do what he does while building a life

And thats why i think Spider-Man is the best Super Hero.

Game
Lol or what makes Spider-Man media good
Since when 100%ing a game after 30 (30 fucking hours) is a bad thing?
I think we have reached a point as gamers that we have been spoiled badly.
I would rather have 30 hours of beautifully crafted Spider-Man than 100 hours of just for the sake of it RPG Assassin's Creed Origins.
Chris Gelekis
I agree with you.
I for once am excited for a DLC after Witcher and Dying Light (excellent game IMO)...which tells a lot
The same happens with couples, not relationship is perfect and working through it is what helps get through it
@@ryantony7743 yeah, but we see that even after she tells him that she doesn’t want to be treated like a damsel in distress, Pete still does it (like when he knocks out the doctor in the tent as she’s about to get info from him.) Taking a break because they’re at an impasse was actually probably healthiest. Having some time apart to reflect on their own actions helped them learn to compromise for each other, instead of staying together and letting resentment fester.

The doc oc fight was terrible. You just repeat the same quicktime event multiple times and then he's dead.
Story wise the fight is nice but gameplay wise it’s pretty boring tbh, a lot of the boss fights didn’t do much for me
I get what your saying but at the same time you don't have to be creative at all to win the boss fight, you can basically do the same things over and over again and still win, even on the hardest difficulty its like that. Now if it was kinda like the freeze fight in arkham city but a head on fight then that would be really cool cuz you can't just repeat the same things over and over again.

He doesn't understand the fandom. He Doesn't know how to edit very well. He misses obvious subtext. He is just not very good at this.

Jonah Key yes that wasn’t a joke
I loved the backpacks because I love Spider-Man lore and the backpacks were then telling you what this Peter has already gone through.
Sorry man, but this critique is filled with misinformation and also shows off that you didnt pay attention or didnt bother to invest yourself into many facettes. Thats fine for a casual look, not for a in-depth critique however.
BIG TRUE.
He glossed over so MANY aspects of the game, it was infuriating.
This whole "critique" is just a mismatched collage of personal opinion, inaccurate information, and a fundamental misunderstanding of who Spider-Man is, passed off as an objective truth about this game. Like 80% of the "flaws" he talks about are just a matter of personal opinion.
@@unlimitedhearts
Personal opinion is fine in this kind of critique, it is in fact almost unavoidable.
I respect your take on it but it leaves me confused big time
someone didn't play web of shadows.
No offense, but it was kinda hard watching you keep running into buildings when you were swinging lol. Also, “green-witch” lmao
This comment is adorable
Nice dude im happy for you
I hope Miles Morales spiderman was an even better experience for you ❤️💙

The Raft being near New York is more of a comics thing, rather than a logical one.
I know this video is old so this comment will probably go unnoticed but I had a few thoughts I wanted to share to give a different outlook
I really like your channel and think you do a great job overall analyzing games but there are a few things here that I wanted to point out that I personally disagree with, although to make things clear I do agree with a lot of your points, I just wanted to offer a few counters just for the sake of friendly discussion and to maybe help you see things in a different light
1. people have already mentioned in the comments how the last scene with MJ and Peter is more nuanced than you may have initially believed, as it indicates that their desires remained constant since whenever they first started dating, they never stopped WANTING to be together, but the conflicts that are addressed in the game were the reason they NEEDED to not be together
2. Thats my take at least
Just wanted to point that out cause it was the only point you made that flat out didnt make any sense to me
Overall I think the video is still great and it's a bit of a shame it got dragged in the comments since I don't think people quite realize how difficult it is to make an hour long critique of the game based mainly on your experience and to not miss any small details or misread a few things, its totally fair for people to point out their issues with the video but I think it's irrational to be so harsh and upset at a few mistakes and not acknowledge the 50+ minutes of the video that didnt include those issues. Again, not sure if this'll be noticed but Just had a few thoughts and wanted to both let you know what I think you may have overlooked but also that I think you're doing a great job and you're clearly getting better and better as this channel goes on, and I wish you all the best
I noticed and just wanted to say that your comment was well written and clearly had a lot of thought put in it. Nice one man.
The game doesn't scream it at you, but if you read the abilities before spending points on them I feel like that's enough conveyance.
first of all insomniac did relase ratchet and clank in 2016 two years after sunset overdrive, and the game sold 3.3 milion in the first 5 days not a month.... just 40 seconds in the video and i can already tell you didn't do your homework

Thank you! Someone gets this guys fucking lazy. I have seen plenty of game critiques and even when my opinion doesn't align with someone, I still respect them for bring up valid points. This guy just strives based on nostalgia and opinions. See certain parts of his Arkham city Vs Arkham origins review.
Do your homework
I for one loved the MJ and Miles sections, as they are the only parts of the game where the mechanics slow down and you actually get a chance to explore levels thoroughly, rather than just fly through an open city at 100 kph. Osbournes Apartment was maybe my favourite level in the game, because of the amount of lore and foreshadowing and exploration it uses.
I liked them too
They were boring as shit and are completely are unskippable which is bullshit. They should've let us skip them like we can skip cutscenes.

And you do need to respect the fact that finding a backpack isn't just a token, you also receive an information about the story and that was main second motive to complete the backpack

I think Mary Jane's line "I never stopped wanting to" was more of a "I wished we didn't break up at the time, but we had to" kind of lines, not just a dumb "why did they break up then?" moment
Yes. He is way off.
Yeah his take on that was laughably wrong
I think what MJ was trying to say was that she didn't want to break up with Peter but realized that she needed to find out where she stood with him being very protective of her. Even if it is unrealistic i can understand how she could feel inferior to him and i think she voiced this well when she said she wanted to "do the saving to" when he has always saved her. Unrealistic yes but understandable in her situation.
thats what i liked about there relationship
No one ever mentions ultimate Spider-Man , honestly that’s a hidden gem of a game that never gets love.
Yup
There are also secret ones u need to get a suit mod to see on the map
The secret ones are annoying. the ones on the map are just his fault for not activating the towers that show the map
Heads up, the game actually tells you right at the beginning that the incentive for maintaining a combo is increased focus gain.
35:27 "this is unacceptable in my opinion" ... dude it's a video game. Also, it is a privilege to play video games, not an entitlement or a right.
Have not even played the game yet that Aunt May scene almost had me in tears.
"i'll be trapped in this useless body" makes me think of superior spiderman, perhaps a sequel will have you playing as miles and fighting him.
The creative director has stated he's a huge fan of Superior Spidey, so there's a damn good chance of it.
You were right about the miles part
Yes. Because they are rushed moments
@@frogglen6350
Peter and Mary Jane's issues recur throughout the game, and Mile's father's death comes up multiple times following the event about halfway through the game.
Is it me or is this guy just really pretentious?
IHatePortals Yeah he sounds pretty condescending at times.
I usually get that impression from a lot of UA-cam critics, although I guess it's because they try so hard to sound professional while also ripping in to a games faults.
@@Wintd1 although i do think a few of his dislikes are subjective and he acts like they're objective faults

Dave R I am under no illusions, I don’t think it’s a 10/10 game or anything, I also disliked the MJ and Miles sections and some bosses were poor but the enjoyment of the collectibles is subjective

I wish it would have taken the stealth sequences and health upgrades as well.

Quick correction, the shockwave shooting dude is called Shocker that you fight in the bank and chase around New York, Electro is a seperate person.
You just played Spiderman 2 so when you compared the combat to Arkham and not that game I almost turned off this video
@@jaygarrick3582 ..."but if Arkham didn't exist."
Now you're speaking in hypotheticals because it DOES exist.
“When I heard that the developer was focusing on making a Peter Parker story first and a Spider-Man game second, I was very worried.”
Tell me you don’t understand Spider-Man without telling me you don’t understand Spider-Man.
Haven’t done anything since sunset overdrive? Did you forget about ratchet and clank smart guy??
I wouldn’t count a remake doing something after a game
Spider-Man 2: Choose which swinging mode you want (let's say easy),
begin sprinting forward with the boost button while charging your jump, release charged jump and while airborne, quickly press and hold R2 to shoot out webline to nearest anchor point and swing in forward arc, let natural momentum move you forward or apply your own boost, then press X at correct moment to slingshot forward at exact angle, being careful not to smack into a building or break the webline, etc.
PS4: Hold R2 and tap X repeatedly

Did you call homecoming mediocre? Nah dog.
I mean... Yeah dog.
It is..
yeah it was tbh. the spidey scenes were pretty weak. he was much more interesting to watch in civil war.
Is there a single marvel movie that is sth more than mediocre?
nikola 1809 All 3 Cap movies. Infinity War, Iron Man
Disagree with the sentiment that the swinging takes 1-2 hours to learn. For me, it was super intuitive in the opening sequence tutorial
Yeah i dont know what was he on about.
Sure you get better with time and upgrades.
But it takes less than a minute to be good at it. It's pretty simple
This was a whack video don't waste your precious hour on this and go play Spider-Man lol
Damn you Spiderman fan boys are precious
Brace Land Says the fanboy of this UA-camr lol I’ve seen you everywhere in this comment section defending this guy hypocrite
Fans for anything are mostly toxic to anyone who says one nit pick about the thing they love like the Sami rami Spider-Man
UA-cam thing the problem isn’t nit picking, the problem is getting certain things wrong
tanton ayeee or getting certain nit picks wrong
Bruh did you really complain about the secret photo-ops being a secret? Even though there is a way to make them not secret? They are a surprise reward for taking a cool photo, not an example of a collectathon.
Wait till you play a dlc enemy base on hard difficulty, you will basically dodge 90 percent of the time
13:03 Dude that is Shocker.
Tobito TV yes that wasn’t a joke
Lmao r/gamingcirclejerk was right about Spider-Man fanboys, they get so mad easily. Game's great tho, good points regardless.
Spider-Man fights differently than Batman. Spider-Man is always dodging and moving around which is why a dodge for no reason doesn't reset your combo. You want to feel like Spider-Man and be able to dart back and forth to throw off enemies. If they docked you for dodging at random times, it would make Spidey feel more grounded and steady.
pretty sure the combat system is more similar to the 2004 game than batman....
the stealth and gadgets however....
It's really not.
It's almost a direct rip from the Arkham games. Which is honestly good, the combat system in Spiderman 2 really isn't good.
The gadgets takes inspiration from the MCU.
Crazy how ppl critique a critique video. Luke's breakdowns are his breakdown, if you don't agree so be it. I myself enjoy these videos bc I don't have time to play through these 10-20hr games. His breakdowns allow me to decide if I want to take sometime and play a game.
Well said! I feel he has a balanced approach and great delivery.
Fantastic critique, great video. A game of the year contender for sure.
Monster Hunter World is too
Unless Red Dead 2 is terrible that'll most likely be game of the year.
Also you need to double check your research please. You have a lot of misinformation here and it's really distracting.
57:30 "Just a matter of super-hero vs not super-hero, I totally relate to what Peter is saying" what're you hiding Luke!
Do Vampyr next
Spider-Man comics have tackled drug addiction( way back in the 70's when other comics wouldn't touch that subject with a ten foot pole), mental conditions, loss of parents and other family, murder, child abuse, and a whole slew of other " dark content". Not Sure that Luke here has that many Spider-man comics under his belt when he says he understands a Spider-man game not digging too deep on dark subject matter.
For people who just watch the movies and play the games, yeah we are not familiar with how dark and mature a spiderman story can be
I don't get why is so important for this game to have an "end game"?
Because it's important to have something to do after finishing the main story.
that only depend on the type of videogame you are playing, after a rpg, yes; after an action, i don't think so.
If you duck up a dodge, you get punished hard.
mary jane and miles morales missions were added to make the game worse.
This was my wife’s favorite backseat gaming experience
