Also, husband did alter the pipework underneath van, as kitchen sink didnt drain very well,(drained slowly) and he noticed the pipes went round corners and bends underneath, and was so easy to remove some bits and reattach in a straighter line to drain point. Perfect now. Lots of unnecessary twists he said in pipework.
We've had quite a few caravans over the years and I agree with you about the water heater, who would put that high up above the electrics. mount it to the floor like most other vans. The one thing you didn't mention that I noticed when I looked over the Bascamp was it was impossible to check the fuses as the fuse box is mounted sideways in the narrow locker. Have you had any need to access these fuses because it looks like you would need a mirror. Awning rails are always high I tend to use the Caravan step to reach the rail. I'm sure the catch on the cutlery drawer could be altered to stop the rattle. Great videos, thanks.
Yip, I have to use a step ladder to pitch my awning!! I have to pull the awning a few inches, move the ladder, pull the awning, move the ladder, all the way to the end. Exhausting!!
The great thing about this video is if they are the only things that need "improving" then it's a good reflection on the BaseCamp as they seem relatively minor.... 👍
As said it is good to have a spare tyre, and in the locker on the BC2 is the best place to have it, no matter the loss of space, as if you put it outside mounted on the caravan it will likely be stolen. I have to keep my spare wheel in my caravan under the table when travelling, and then put it in the car boot when emptied out at site. My caravan is bigger than a BC2 and we are considering downsizing to it now, but one problem would be locating a portable microwave, as we always carry one, as we never use the oven LOL.
I hadn’t considered the possibility of theft so it’s a good point to make. I suppose that could be a possible lockable bracket of some sort? I think the base camp kitchen would give you enough room to place a small microwave on
Love the look of the entire Basecamp range. Swift have been very clever but for me it was the lack of doors on the lockers and the bench seating that made us buy elsewhere 🙄
Hi. The triangular storage bags on the shelves, did they come with the van or did you buy as an add on. If you bought them where did you get them from. Many thanks..Paul
We are living in Germany and just recently bougtht a used Basecamp 2 (2019). We love your triangle bags on the top shelves left and right in the corners. Where might we get those and how are they called? We also love your blankets and cushions in the lounging area. Same question, where did you get this nice equipment?
Hi. The storage bags are made by ‘Bags of fun creations’. They craft bespoke items for the Basecamp. You can find them on Facebook facebook.com/bagsoffuncreations The throws on the bench seats where from Dunelm.
@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales Excellent! Thank you very much for your informative and entertaining videos and you quick answer. Have a good time and lots of fun adventuring with your Basecamp!
Bit late to the party but there are underslung spare wheel carriers available for Al-ok chassis. Don’t know if there’s space under a Basecamp, but it’s more than likely a universal accessory.
Thank you for your comment. Since making that video, I have discovered the underslung spare wheel carrier. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit on the current Base camp caravans due to the heating systems underneath the chassis.
Our water heater gushed out hot water all over our electrics and the floor. Fortunately for us, it tripped the electrics. Unfortunately for the CL site we were on it tripped the electrics for the whole site. Oops! It was our first trip away and we now turn off the hot water and pump when we leave the caravan or go to sleep at night.
Interesting to watch 😊 hope you don’t mind but had a couple of questions, what brand of motor mover do you have and do you have the isolator inside or outside of the caravan? And also what tow mirrors do you use? We also have a bmw 😊
No problem. The motor mover is a Powrtouch Evolution Single Axle Motor Mover. It’s a manual one. If I was getting one again I would pay the extra £300 ish and get an electric one. The isolation is inside the van. Not sure why but it is. The towing mirros are Milenco mirros. They are a good pair.
Re the drawer. Ours also has slack in it and feels like it needs a magnet. It hasnt slid open, but if not locked in, it feels like it always wants to open itself
Yep, those 5 plus...... 6. Proper thermostat for the heating. 7. A cover over the fridge buttons to stop you accidentally changing the fridge settings with your stomach!
Nick, ref the spare wheel, you can get an Alko, underslung wheel carrier, that fits the basecamp, however, if you watch video, it’s a bit of a pig to shell off
Sadly, I think, it won’t fit, had a look under mine , as I would like to do same, looks like under floor heater in the way, might be worth dropping Alko an enquiry, to double check
A small piece of Velcro would solve the drawer problem. A foldable, plastic step (e.g. Lakeland) should solve the awning issue. As for the protective plastic bumpers, I see no ,point in a paint finish, as they would only show up scratches even more. You should apply to become the Basecamp Product Manager at Swift!! LOL
Started watching your videos , why have a ladder , just open the door and stand on the sill , as for spare would do away with it and get tyre sealant , free up space , the utensil draw would also bother me , would have to find a way to fix that , good work 👍
Putting a spare tyre under the BC is a very bad idea for they are a nightmare to remove from the al-ko ,tyre rack I got a badly pulled shoulder to prove it ,you have to virtually lay on your side to remove it , and to be honest I don’t think there is any room under there to fit one . Put all your stuff somewhere else may be in your car.
As you say superb vans However 're spare wheel I've owned vans with underslung spare wheels this is not ideal in a few ways 1)wheels are housed in a cradle that is generally tricky to get to and you end up scrovling in the wet or dirt on the side of the road if you have a puncture 2)All tyre cradles corrode over time causing more problems 3)As the spare is out of sight it's harder to check it's condition or air pressure Really I feel it's in its best home in the front locker 're the ladder I'm not sure the rear basecamp wall would be strong enough to attach a ladder and in beefing up would possibly add weight to the van 're the draw I'm sure this could be adjusted with ease 're the water heater Yes I understand your worries about water however you can't worry about something that I for one in 30 years of caravanning has never heard happen Think about it this way if 17 litres of water was dumped from the tank you would have more to worry about that wet wiring Great channel enjoyed by all for sure Please be aware these are just my thoughts after 30 plus years of caravanning and one year of BC4 ownership
Thanks Ian that’s great feedback. Just my thoughts. It should be possible to install a bracket for the ladder at production… ie it’s ordered as an optional extra when purchasing a new van. Good point on the water heater… like I said it just makes me nervous but I have got OCD😂. The points you make around the spare wheel are good ones but for us… I’d still stick it under the A Frame. I use the locker all the time versus how many times do I really need a spare wheel (until the time I need it😅). Thanks again for your comments. We are still newbies so experience is always appreciated.

Wow! Thanks Calvin.
There are some 2017/2018 BaseCamps on auto trader with painted mouldings. Shiny grey though
A ladder is a great idea. Looked at a knaus sport caravan which had a ladder & roof bars.
Think I’ve seen that you one. Had a fixed bed in front section? German brand. Nice van but looked a bit cramped.

I suspect that was caused by a black plastic hot water outlet valve? That was a known fault in some base camps which was later rectified.

As you say superb vans

1)wheels are housed in a cradle that is generally tricky to get to and you end up scrovling in the wet or dirt on the side of the road if you have a puncture

3)As the spare is out of sight it's harder to check it's condition or air pressure
Really I feel it's in its best home in the front locker
're the ladder I'm not sure the rear basecamp wall would be strong enough to attach a ladder and in beefing up would possibly add weight to the van
're the draw I'm sure this could be adjusted with ease
're the water heater
