  • The 3 different models of Attitude LTD. Sound differences, construction differences etc. All amazing in their own right-each with a special voice....Thanks to GHS Strings, Tech 21 NYC and Ampeg for the excellent gear! Special thanks to my good friend Billy Sheehan for inspiring bass players for decades!!!!!
    I sit corrected, the LTD 1 HAS a mono out for both pickups, the P bass volume is a push/push.....I was looking for a push/pull....Thanks to Mike for pointing that out!

    Excellent comparison. Thank you.
    I got my Attitude Ltd 3 last October. Hands down the finest production bass I've ever played. Sounds like God's left hand on a GiANT piano. Putting it through the various EBS Sheehan drive pedals and running in stereo is the dogs balls.
    The looks I get from other musicians when the whole rig is fired up just warms my heart. Especially drummers. They get it. They really get it.
    One difference you got into a bit: The 3's neck "woofer" pickup is quite a bit different than the old Will Power Neck PU. It absolutely has way more top end. I consider this a plus, since the treble is there if you want it, but you can always roll it off with the tone knob and go for old school thump. When it's passive, give me the widest frequency output possible and let me dial it down as needed.
    This bass is a *marvel* of engineering and craftsmanship. It's the only bolt-on I've ever played that actually behaves like a neck-through. Best of both worlds.
    Yes, the neck is massive. And I happen to have small hands (don't laugh). I manage just fine.
    If only the 3 came in Arctic White or Lava Red...with a matching headstock. LOL.
    Anyway, thanks again man. Great overview.

    I had a blue series one model (like your ) , a 10th anniversary in sparkle black and a BB714bs in Lava red. The attitude one I had was monstrous! The tone was huge and harmonics popped out like crazy. The neck was huge and it did neck dive. Mine was made in Taiwan. I never found any info on the taiwan made Attitudes. But the tone was the most massive full and clear p Bass I have ever heard in my life. I sold it later due to the neck being a bit warped. Miss that bass....

    In 1990 Yamaha also made an Attitude Custom (with piezo bridge pickup added) and an Attitude Deluxe (with a single humbucker pickup and a multi position switch for the different sounds). I think those two basses were only made in 1990 (in Taiwan) before being discontinued.

    On the limited I, after they were replaced with the toggle switch, the tone knob was push-push for a woofer tone change, and the p-volume was push-push for the output jacks…rather than pulling the knob, you pushed it in, like a clicky-pen…I’m sure there were changes, but I had two, one with the switch, one with the pair of push-push knobs 👍🏼

  • @DrLokmades

    As for the pickups, I'm almost 100% sure the Limited I had essentially a "stock" Model P and Model One ... just under smooth pickup covers and without the adjustable pole pieces. For the II, DiMarzio modified both pickups to increase output and emphasize the mids even more.

  • @jdjk7
    @jdjk7 3 роки тому

    I'm planning to build my first bass based on the Attitudes, with a precision bass body/neck, stereo outs, a Lindy Fralin P pickup, a Curtis Novak BS-DS EB-0 sized single coil, and a Jazzmaster switch plate to control the BS-DS coil tap, series/parallel pickup wiring, and the mono/stereo output. The project is a bit ambitious as my first bass build, but i'm looking forward to the challenge...

I'm curious about how the neck on the LTD 2s attaches to the body, especially the front-mounted bolts. Any chance someone here has--or can point me to--pics of what that looks like? Gracias!

    Ho avuto in passato LTD 2 "green" quando ancora si trovava usato per 500/600€ ed esteticamente è stato uno dei bassi più "cool" che ho avuto ( e ne ho avuti più di 20...compreso un Fodera Yin Yang!). Poi però l' ho venduto per finanziare l'acquisto del basso dei miei sogni: un Fender Jazz custom shop 66, lui stesso dello stesso colore dello Yamaha! Inoltre ho compensato la mia voglia di "suono rock ignorante" con un precison Steve Harris...e adesso sono un uomo realizzato!

    Awesome overview, I've always been fascinated with these basses and what they are capable of. Question, how do these differ from the Attitude custom deluxe? Saw one for sale on Reverb and the switching is different, and the woofer is hidden under the scratch plate. Were they just not endorsed by Billy? Or is it a lesser model not hand built in Japan?

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  3 роки тому

      The Attitude Custom Deluxe was the first model they made prior to partnering with Billy. It is an active bass and was their original design. Originally, I believe it was made in Japan but will have to confirm that. The LTD 3 basses are currently the ones being built in Japan. many of the others (not LTD) were made in taiwan over the years....thanks for watching!

    Curious what do you/people commenting think is the absolute best p bass pickup for a Billy Sheehan style tone ? Both for Overall tone and getting closest to Billy Sheehans tone/playing style ? Basically what's the best Billy Sheehan P Bass pickup ever made in your opinions ? A late 60s CBS Fender Stock P pickup (ala The Wife Bass) ? Original 1970s Dimarzio P Pickup ? Yamaha BB3000 P bass pickup ? Original Attitude One P Pickup circa 1990 ? Or Dimarzio Sheehan Signiture pickups over the years - Relentless, Model P, Will Power etc ? Curious if anyone has a clear favorite above all the rest and why they feel that way. Curious if anyone has a favorite era of Billy Sheehan’s tone ? Talas? DLR? Mr.Big? Vai? Winery Dogs?

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  3 роки тому +1

      If you are looking for Billy's sound, the Will Power P or the Relentless DiMarzios would be my choices....There is a certain clarity that comes with those pickups. When married to the EBS Billy pedal, you can get closer....the rest is in the hands....

      @@bassjaymi Thanks for the reply ofcoarse Billy’s tone is in his hands great point. I’m endorsed with EBS and met Billy few times. Your right on with the EBS Sheehan distortion. Mixing distortion with a clean signal keeps your low end in check and is the best bass distortion I’ve ever heard. Amazing pedal. Once years ago I showed up super early to a Billy Sheehan Bass Clinic at a Sam Ash. Figured the place would be packed and there would be a crazy long line to get in so came in a few hours early... Billy was there early hanging with Larry Hartke and since we had a while to wait Billy gave me a one on one bass lesson for close to an hour and really got my right hand technique going. He gave me a great tip. Since each finger is a different length... pretend your holding a baseball in your right hand and curve your hand/fingers a bit. You’ll notice all your fingers will become about the same length and playing consistently with your fingers fast is much easier. Billy is the greatest guy and one of the few childhood hero’s I met I had a wonderful experience with. Usually meeting your childhood hero’s ruins your view of them because they are jerks like when I opened for Dee Snider... he’s beyond a jerk in person and I can never look at him the same ever again. But Billy is a true gentleman. You couldn’t meet a nicer humbler person. Thanks for the response Billy had so many different sounds and pickups over the years. I know coming from a pro and amazing player like you it’s great advice. Love your channel. All the best

    I have a 2 seafoam, do you feel the ends of the frets trying to snag and scratch your feet hand when sliding up to the highest frets on the g string? I do it's , annoying I don't know anyone to trust sanding anything on my basses so I just grin and bear it

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  3 роки тому

      Mine do not have that. Sometimes what happens over time is the wood shrinks a bit and once that happens, the fret ends will stick out....if that happens, a good fret dress by a skilled repair guy can nail it (unless of course you can do it yourself-which is awesome too!) that will help your playability. Hope this helps!! thanks for watching!

      Big does not necessarily mean slow, my Attitude Custom has the biggest neck of the 14 basses in my home, it also feels the fastest.
      It is sort of a flat D profile in back, not a baseball bat round U shape.

    • @ManCaveStudio
      @ManCaveStudio 4 роки тому

      Be careful what you wish for. The neck is big and fat and that is a god send because all that mass = huge tone. If the neck was thin and narrow i will bet everything I own the sound would shrink however for a neck as chunky as it is, it is also very fast. Just look at Billy for proof.
