- Billy Sheehan was our guest for The Flo Guitar Enthusiasts Radio Show on August 26th, 2013. Before the show Scott asked him to go through the features of his bass and how he has gotten to the version he has now.
Billy talks about how he originally had a Fender P-bass and modified it over the years to eventually become the bass he has been using for years from Yamaha. The bass he is showing off is the 25th anniversary Yamaha Attitude LTD II bass which he has used on tour for many years.

I could listen to him talk all day.
Exactly. I could watch 5 videos of him talking about the same subject and he's still fun. He's so excited and happy about his work!
You still listening?
Yep
really fun to watch this, he's got a great energy. I'd love to see the Yamaha factory in person, he makes it sound awesome!
The bass is incredible. It's far too advanced for my skill level, but wow - just absolutely singular features! So cool, and I feel like it would make a fantastic post-apocalyptic combat weapon as well, it's so durable!
Glad you enjoyed it
What a character! Just amazing how humble this guy is!
gie bass he is certainly an amazing guy!
Billy could make * any * bass sound great 👍 I really enjoy listening to him talk bass , seems like a very humble down to earth guy .
He is
Great thing to hear. It’s so tempting to “simply” go get that bass…..
I’ce heard before about the crystallization of the sap and vibration resolving them when someone was wondering about the tonal quality of a guitar which was “just hanging” at the wall. Thing was that it was the wall of their rehearsal room where they were playing pretty loud.
Rock on
Sheehan is a cool guy!
He is more than a cool guy, he is the real deal!
Thank you Mr. Sheehan for sharing. You definitely rock the party!
Nice
Great talk from a fellow Yamaha lover
Billy always brings it!
@Motorhoads 666, I agree, totally one of the nicest guys out there. I certainly put him at the top for bass players in my opinion.
He is such a cool, down to earth guy. I'd say he's in the top 5 bassists ever, along with Steve Harris and Lemmy
Yes he is
Long live the Boss of Bass
Amen to that!
Well he makes it sound like a great bass and it probably is .. not sure how many guys would use 2 outputs but it's a great concept.
Pudsy440 certainly gives him a unique sound for sure.
sillennium
I've since watched Billy's video tour of the Yamaha factory and the making of his signature bass and it really is all it says it is, better save my nickels, like to have one of these basses, they look like a dream to play with the extra mile gone to get the strings as low to the body as possible. I recommend watching that video.
Pudsy440 I have seen that video. It does make me want one too
Entwistle,Lemmy,Sheehan all used duel outputs
5:27 McCartney played a Rickenbacker 4001 on that. Starting with Paperback Writer/Rain he only used the Hofner live, and then on the Let It Be album to get the early sound again.
thanks for watching.
Unlike with guitars, there's no debate who the best bass player ever is: Billy Sheehan; all others are like a glass of water compared to the ocean.
I agree
Greg Diprinzio personally disagree, though he is fantastic.
I should say, rock bassist. Within the context of a rock song I've never heard anyone who both supplies the low end groove and throws in so many technically difficult and tasteful "shenanigans. Billy seems so comfortable with a bass I get the impression he could play anything he has a mind to.
@@dakotafawson1223 he truly is
Who is he? I have heard the name.
This one in red would be great.
Muppio thanks for stopping by. Don't forget to subscribe.
Fucking legend
Yeah
Neck snapping.... did they ever do the 3 screw "neck tilt" - thingy on Precision Basses back in the days at Fenders?
I can't say that my 1964 has that problem, nor my 2016 MiM Precision 50's Classic. I had some 70's Jazz Basses in my hand that did that.
The 70's were notorious for the 3 bolt necks
ENNIO MARTINA MUTE shout-out for the next update!
Also I find if I pinch harmonics on a bass I lose volume! Perhaps a harmonic oriented pickup?
Hopefully there will be one
@@sillennium The guy who makes them apparently has a huge waiting list and he's quite old so it'd be a great move for Yamaha to make if they bought him out!
4:46 cracked me up so much.
***** thanks for watching! don't forget to subscribe.
is this the Ibanez Jem of Basses?
Well its a Yamaha so no but it is innovative and different like the JEM
@@sillennium what i meant is that this is the "Ibanez Jem" of basses in terms of quality and features i'm not literally referring to the fact that this was made by ibanez
Hello Billy , me i have a Gibson Explorer model and i don't have sustain on my instrument.I want change the nut for brass , also i want put the scews exactly like your bass and the neck are already gluded. The frets are in nickel.Yes it's too soft material. The body is Mahogany with maple neck , ebony fretboard.
This isn't Billy's chanel so unlikely he will see this
Welcome to a new epsiode of Sheehan's shenanigans
Thx for watching
Just let it sink in him and Paul Gilbert did a band together
Biggest, baddest band of them all
4:47

What a dork. He's great!
David Luoma he is fantastic for sure! One of the best guests we have had on our radio show and can't wait to get him back!
How much does this bass go for?
It goes for 2499 on Sweetwater's website. Thanks for watching.
Awesome bass!
Vibration technology... put it in the back of a truck and go off roading down Mt. Fuji! (Kidding)
True
un bass solo pa los pive!!!!
El Shosky Pirch bien turro thanks for stopping by
So Billy doesent want his bass to be strung trough body, nor he wants a 5 piece maple/mahogany neck, even he chose DiMarzio pups,at least Nathan East has gone with Yamaha custom pickups.I prefer Yamaha's custom pickups.
Thx for your feedback
still not as nice as the "wife" bass!
Why is that?
