Well that adds to my huge pile of dream basses...
I know that feel bro'
thats the band ghost
I just got My hands on one and its by far one of the best basses i have played The dimarzio pickups make it sound like a p-bass on steroids and the Yamaha pickup gives you a warm fat sound. This bass made me switch from fender to Yamaha
Yamaha basses are great.
heart of the sunrise.... nice choice!
I agree with you, man. I've been playing for about 10 years now, and almost exclusively fingerstyle. I have nothing against picks, and am actively working to become better at the technique. But for someone who cut their teeth playing fingerstyle, playing with a pick is a bit like playing with gloves on: you can't feel the strings - at least not in the same way. I can also play for hours with fingers and feel fine, but 15 min of picking and my hand aches. Every technique requires practice!
I imagine you could get a great Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and John Wetton bass tone from this Bass and VT combo.
lol that heart of the sunrise riff...
This is probably the best Yamaha bass out there
Man.... you play very well!!! Congrats!!! Keep going!
Awesome review! Great tone and great playing.
I've been living on the West Coast for the past five years and I'm moving back to Chi-town in a little over a week, I can't wait to go visit CME!!!!
Exellent review. Great playing. You not only master the bass. You break it up so the user can hear the sounds they are searching for and can be found in this instrument. U're smart and accesable... Wich is rare...
Great host. Hope to see more of you.
Very well done demo!
Awesome playing as ever from your good self ...I need that bass in my life
i like this dude, good review
Heart of the sunrise clean sound realy insane awesome
Heart of the Sunrise by Yes. Nice! and awesome demo Marc.
10 years late, but I went to find this comment!
Killer bass man
3:49 LUCIFEEEEEEERRRR!!!!!!!!
WEEEE ARRRREEE HEEEEEEEEEERE
Yes- Heart of the sunrise :)
Sweet demo. It's nice to hear someone not sucking all the mids out of the tone with the VT bass pedal. I don't know if the highs were boosted on the amp or not, but based on what I've heard of dimarzio model P and Will Power pickups (and the configuration on this bass), I would have expected the bass to sound muddy, but it sounded pretty clear here. Very unique instrument.
Bitta Heart of the sunrise, very nice.
This made me want a VT Bass again!
that would be "Con Clavi Con Dio" by the band Ghost, along with a riff from the Students From Norway track "Sodom and Gomorrah."
Thanks! Gotta love these Swede bands
3:57 is weird, it shows him turning off the VT Bass when soundwise it is being turned on.. wtf?
3:35 Ghost! I'm from their hometown. Great review :)
Anybody know which pickup were we hearing when?
( sounded great btw )
YES!
it's based on preference but i find pick harder to control especially when string skipping on bass while using fingers, you have two fingers and you can handle more than one string at once, in addition to playing fast.

THIS IS SPARTA!
Bass is groove.
Play any bass however you want as long as you are happy and it sounds good to you :D
would have liked him to demonstrate the other knobs
Now please drop the bass $1k. Thanks! :X
Awesome bass. If bass was my main and only queeze, is get it today.
Hey Mark, beautiful bass. Can you share a little bit about what the bass sounds like with each pickup soloed? What's the advantage of the DiMazrio as opposed to any other pick up? Is it wound to Billy's specs? What does the neck pup sound like soloed since it is specially designed? Also, where is the woofer high cut switch is located? It would have been interesting to hear what the tonal variations are when you adjust the woofer tone switch as well. Liked the nod to Yes. GLWTS - Talkbass member sneha1965.
i use my finger's if i want a more deeper sound i use a pick to make the sound more sharp
you're from Ghost's hometown? Awesome!
u can groove with a pick, your fingers, ur thumb, whatever u want.
Josh, just having a little fun, did'nt think that you would take that so seriously, hence the lol, I can totally back what I say and do with ability to play my instrument, which Ive been doing since the age of 12, go to and check out my band Oldskool.
Again so sorry, Rik
i play with a pick when the song calls for it. but i usually do pick and fingerstyle exercises. so yea. twice the number of times i practice scales.
Wow..whats that cool bass riff
WOW.. that clean bass sound is WAYYYYYY better than Billy's...
Billy doesn't play clean,...
it allows you to split the pickups. pretty much you can send each one to a different amp
there definately isn't anything wrong with using a pick, you can get a really defined attack and constant note volume from playing pick style.. You can also do some things that you cant do with fingers such as string rakes or really quick notes using rapid up and down picking motions. I musyt admit... Predominantly i am a finger style player, (probably 99% finger style 1% pick) only on the odd song do i use a pick.
Con clavi con dio
nice Arashikage tattoo sir
Can somebody please explain the countersunk bridge thing? I know what countersinking is, but I don’t see what you could do to a bridge to lower the string that would be much different than just lowering the saddle
Since no one bothered to answer your question....
I'll do my best...to my understanding!!
Countersunk, is when they remove wood, or ACTUALLY
Shave a small section, under the bridge, itself.
So when the bridge is mounted to the Bass ,
It's not sittingflush to the body,
But, actually sunk into the Body just a little bit, to give the ability to lower the action, past the normal point.
Especially, when it comes to high mass Bridges, for example....a BADASS Bridge,
Would be a good candidate,
To countersink!!
Hope that helps you!!
Is that a specific song @3:33? Kind of gave me goosebumps!
Con clavi con dio
Can you explain what the double output! thanks
when you started paying ghost. lost it
Great sound just like a Rick.
1st riff, Heart of the Sunrise- Yes?
Totally agreed, it's so friggin juvenile.
I want to know why they don't make it in a tenth of the price version :p
If I got that bass, I'd put a Rick pickup right at bridge position. Rick tones on a very ergonomic and progressive bass.
Just get a Rickenbacker and save some money, as the AT3 isn't cheap anyway. Practically is a Rickenbacker/modern Precision hybrid, so you're not missing much by just getting one half of the bass style.
Whats the name of last riff played?
I play with both my fingers and can switch to a pick without giving it a thought
Cheeky bit of Ghost there ...
was the last riff opeth??
I need one of those hipshot thingies in mah bass...
I personally prefer Charles Benavent's technique, with a thumbpick and open fingers.
GHOST!
I wish Fender made something like this, minus the stereo outputs.
and also cause the strings are thicker than standard gauge guitar strings (duh) so i need the extra effort when picking.
What's the song @3:31?
JosephGallagher Con Clavi Con Dio by Ghost
i agree with SpoonFinder,, play with finger is much better,, you not only play the bass, you also feel it,but playing with a pick is not pussy, it's depend on what music you play,, but i prefer the finger, you can look Flea,Geddy Lee, Claypool, Fieldy,Jaco etc. i think pick make the sound strong but it is also make the sound have less feel, like a robot
boi y u playin chris squier riffs
Bobby Vega... enough said.
it's an opinion. if you find it easier, good for you.
I wouldn't say it's harder. Just different.
How much does it cost?
Light Warrior it's expensive
About £3000, based off a quick google search
@@raweymoore Really? I saw it for like $2400 on Yamaha's website...
lowest possible action at D# yeah maybe ;)
That's not exactly how "Heart of the Sunrise" goes
I put a thumb pick on my thumb so I can switch from pick to finger on the fly 😊
Sabrina the scene witch I've tried, but it feels weird when you alternate the picking.
Well I mean like one song use the pick the next use your fingers not on the same song
Sabrina the scene witch then why wouldn't you just grab a pick?
You really like Yes, huh? Cool
but u cant get that dry sound you get from picking from fingers
why whould you ever think about playing a billy sheehan attitude bass with a pick?
please tell me how you managed to narrow down ur playing options to just ur fingers. what's next? no slapping? no tapping?
Guitar players can play with whatever they want from fingers to picks etc and we bass players have to suffer with the judgement of people like you when all we want to do is play bass.
Without demoing this bass in stereo it really defeats the purpose of the design..screw mono
Only 0.83% of all bass guitarists play in stereo. Yamaha knows that. It's primarily a gimmick.
finger technique is way harder than pick my friend
Man, I've got such a severe Attitude-GAS..!
Ghost: con clavi dio
No where can I find dimensions on the neck, never a nut width or radius, just talk about the pickups
sorry Josh, so clueless, hey Mom, I said pb&j with crusts cut off, lol, the only sound emulating from your parents basement
sorry, go to Fizzkicks
kevin owens
Whatever happened to just active and passive controls just too complicated hipshot just get s 5 string SMH
What's wrong with playing with picks? It gives a more 'attack' to the sound and it varies depending on what kind of music you play. Playing with a pick is definitely harder than using fingers and the genius who said picks are for pussies should be proven wrong.
a lot of comformists liked your comment... and yeah, it isnt harder at all... and now, if you ONLY play with a pick, sad for you bro, I hope you don't.
Come on man, do not use pick.
listen to Bobby Vega then. your argument is invalid
Could've just run the VT Bass pedal into a PA and had a better tone.
Holy redundancy Batman.
The pick vs fingers debate is so FUCKING BORING. Apply some judgement and use what makes that particular music sound the most kick-ass. Develop equally good technique with both and stop having stupid lame opinions.
Playing with a pick is harder...? Oh God my eyes hurt reading this shit...
So? You can't have groove playing with a pick? Listen to some kickass metal with pickstyle bassists, it's groovy as hell.
"For this bass players that like to hit harmonics and bend them..."
People do that?
Yes we do
It’s not a stereo out. They are designated pickup outputs. Stereo implies left and right which is far from the truth. Got to give you a thumbs down for this review.
the maple fretboard has no soul. needs rosewood.
GHOST!
