  • Tangled Up is really Britannica's Tales Around the World Rapunzel but in 2012 a company called Brightspark Productions slapped a Disney rip off cover on it. So we also have the Rapunzel like stories of Fenchelchen and when King Solomon put his daughter in a tower.

    • @Nionivek
      @Nionivek 5 років тому +55

      I don't think King Solomon was actually going to cut the baby in half, even in context I think it was just a empty threat to convince the real mother to give the baby up (So that he could identify the real mother).

    • @AnInsideJoke
      @AnInsideJoke 5 років тому +28

      I was being facetious about part of it, yeah, but there's still the fact that the ruse was born out of the assumption that the 2nd woman wouldn't also care about the baby. What if she had also volunteered to give the baby up rather than see them killed? It's still the life of a child at stake, after all. Not to mention there were a ton of other ways to solve it (such as asking 3rd parties who knew one of the two women, for instance) before moving right to threatened baby murder.

    Holy crap, what's up with the parents in the first Rapunzel story?? In that one, the mother didn't even want the vegetables because of pregnancy cravings-- the baby was already born and they were gonna have a feast to celebrate. Why on earth would they give up the baby in exchange for the vegetables then??

    • @cthonisprincess4011
      @cthonisprincess4011 4 роки тому +3

      Gwendolyn Stata I know this is a joke but...
      The eagles weren’t allowed to fly the fellowship to Mount Orodruin- they work for Manwë, King of the Valar, and the Valar were forbidden by Eru (Ëa’s creator god) to interfere with Arda’s fate. Whenever the eagles were involved, it was Manwë subtly breaking the rules to help out.
      Moreover it's literally stated and implied multiple times by Gandalf and others that discretion of the Ring's location is of utmost importance. Putting its holder on an eagle is basically lighting a beacon saying "Yo Sauron, here it is! Come get it!"
      Aside from that fact, there are PLENTY of reasons why it was safer to walk to Mordor rather than fly in with the eagles.
      People bringing up the "buh da eagles" argument to try and look smart, either didn't read the book or didn't pay attention to the crux of the entire story.

    What is it with Rapunzel’s parents being big jerks and stealing instead of BUYING it at Market, or at least making a deal with the witch?
    At least in some versions of Rapunzel, the plant was a special kind that I doubt could be found in any old market but that doesn’t excuse the fact that the parents don’t TRY and TALK to the witch.
    But then again the witch must’ve done Rapunzel a favor of raising her away from thieves.

You could tell a story about a family that genuinely love each other but must make the decision for themselves.

    I'm sure this is gonna come across as an ACKCHYUALLY, but I may as well throw it out there: Maltese history time! that "iron cross" Fenchelchen was wearing is probably supposed to be the Cross of Saint John, it's a very similar design (here it is as a unicode character ✠) and is strongly associated with Malta. Saint John's cross is the insignia of the Knights Hospitalier, a knightly order dating to the days of the crusades which ruled Malta from 1530 to 1798, and is still in operation in Malta to this day. As a result the cross has become something of a symbol of Malta as a whole, to the point where it's often also known as the Maltese Cross. Design wise the iron and Maltese crosses are almost identical, with the primary difference being the Maltese design is supposed to have its posts split at the ends, giving the appearance of 8 points, while the iron cross stays solid, giving it 4 very broad points, additionally the Maltese cross is seen in a variety of colors, primarily white and red (interestingly enough the symbol of the Umbrella Corporation in both Resident Evil and real life is two Maltese crosses, one white and one red, overlaid on top of each other at 45 degree offset angles), while an iron cross is always black (with the exception of a couple not-legally-iron-crosses made by the German army starting in 2008 which are gold). Both the Maltese and iron crosses are part of a category of cross symbols known as the crosses pattée, which were used by various knightly orders and royal families of the middle ages, including the Knights Templar.
    NOTE: I'm not actually Maltese and don't know much of anything else about Maltese history, I just know odd details about specific permutations of crosses.
