it's cute when people take song lyrics (and themselves) super seriously.
Very interesting to see how his voice changed in the past years. Went from very coarse and little to no vibrato to very soft and sharp and a lot of vibrato and somewhat higher pitch. I hope the vocal chords didn't get damaged.
I'm sure he had to change it up, more than likely damaged his vocal chords. Which is a shame cause this isn't the Colter Wall I learned to enjoy anymore.
he posted something about this a while back. he basically said during his imaginary appalachia his sound was forced and not his natural voice and doesn’t like to think back on it. the sound we’re getting now is is natural singing voice.
I heard him say in an interview once that when he listens to the older recordings he “hears a guy that didn’t know how to sing”
I think his voice is beautiful either way
@@INDRIDCOLD83 Gotta agree with Colter Wall on the change. Been listening to his newer stuff lately and, now, whenever I check out his old stuff his previous singing voice sounds forced and kinda cringey to me
He's basically said he was forcing things on his early work and that he's since "learned how to sing". I think the work he's been putting out as of late is probably his finest yet.
Colter is singing more like the Canadian he is, and that is what you’re picking up on.

Cant get enough of his music, no matter the song, hearing him sing transcendent ramblin railroad blues marked him as a legend in my mind though

His original voice, this was in my algorithm and sorry to say I'm not a fan of his singing style anymore. Voice went from howling on a mountain top to whispering in the woods.

I was watching another video at 2x, when Colter started it had kind of a cool little swing to it. Sounds good at every speed.
I miss how he use to sing. Maybe he sung the other way because he “thought” it sounded better but I got used to it. I did love it. He sounds great now don’t get me wrong. He seems more natural now and relaxed. Like this is his natural singing voice. Not only that is I think he had to find himself and he just fined his voice over the years. But I hate he removed his other videos from his profile. Fortunately their still out there if we search YT though. But to see his growth is amazing. But I miss the raspy voice he had.

His voice has come so far. More nasal clarity now. I will say, while the band is cleary well trained and mixed, I really prefer listenin to just Colter and his guitar. The rest seems to take away from his magic. Same thing with Tyler Childers when he started performing with a whole band. It just adds more for them to focus on and pulls them out of the soul of the song enough to lose some of that x factor... Just my opinion. But I'd say less is certainly more with these folk artists. Plus, this version is a little faster than the one I fell in love with, which makes it sound "wrong." Stay true to you, young soldier. Don't let these engineers and producers steer you away from that magic you found within yourself.
