I had a kid kicking my seat once and when I looked behind me the kid’s mother was calmly ignoring the situation, looking rather comfortable and pleased with herself. I attempted to get her attention, but she ignored me, so I raised my voice and told her very firmly to control the child and make him stop kicking. With a sigh of annoyance she actually did what I told her do (mind you I made it very clear that I was not asking a question). About ten minutes later the kid was at again and I turned around and this time the was on it very quickly. Moral of the story: do not engage the child, ever. Hold the obnoxious parent accountable.

Last story: If the OP's boyfriend can't afford to eat out then he shouldn't go, period. Plus it's super disrespectful to volunteer someone for something without their prior knowledge or consent. That along with all his manipulation and comparing her to his ex's should be more than enough reason for the OP to dump him.

Sounds like her boyfriend felt entitled to her money. Not even asking if she will pay for the dinner, and then trying to bully her into it?! What a jerk! Here's a thought....since she like his parents, she can have them over for dinner and not invite their son...her (hopefully) EX!

In that last story, he believed being concerned about money was unimportant. Um, since when? Being manic about money isn't healthy, but being monetarily responsible is important. He also gave away the fact that he is a lush, expecting her to pay for their dates and that meal with his parents. She should drop him sooner than quickly.

This is especially true today. They'd rather cancel a flight than not have it be close to full or full. For the past 20 years, they've been doing everything to squeeze every dime out out of every seat.

From what I have heard, what you are supposed to do if the flight if is full is use the fact that you have both the aisle and window seat as bargaining chips so that your party stays together with then idea being, if the flight is not full you get an extra seat, if it is full then one person in your party will be in the middle but the other gets their pick of window or aisle. I think most people forget about the second half of the plan and just see "free seat" and don't look any further

  • @cybercat7851

The booking a window and aisle seat strategy does work, me and my dad booked these for a flight because the middle was already booked. The person canceled last minute, and I guess it wasn’t a full flight because no one came to occupy it. We were able to store our extra stuff there and had more space to stretch, and this was thankfully on a flight across the Atlantic.
    EDIT: Thanks for the heart!

I don't see how it can work. Most people can choose their own seat. Every time I book a flight, I choose my own seat. There's nothing stopping me from choosing a middle seat (but I would never do that unless that was the only option). For those who get a seat assigned at the gate, again, there are no restrictions on which available seats can be assigned.

HA! So like any school system to put the blame on the victim.
I was bullied in school (I was that lanky guy) by some trash, what he didn't know is that I was practicing pro wrestling at the time (while being a show, the difference between a head lock hurting or not is how much pressure you use), so he threw a water bottle at my friends and as we played some card game during recess, being a breaking point, I got up to his face in the hall and shouted to stop messing with us, he answered by shoving me, and very awkwardly head locking me (WWE was really popular back then), so I just lifted my arm and shifted my weight to head lock him instead, actually held it right and made him moan in pain, some of the kids said a teacher was coming so I released him, she passed by and I told him that he better wise up or get a couple more sessions of pain, he never looked my way again.
Bullies are usually weak and over confident, find your confidence and perhaps train yourself a bit, and stand up to them, the high and mighty may say violence is wrong but it's not your responsibility to be the educator of the ignorant - it's the failure of their parents.

A lot of schools don't want to both with actually figuring out what happened so they have a "no tolerance" policy for any fighting. Everyone gets suspended no matter who started it or why. While I was never a very good fighter, I'm glad I grew up long before that.

I remember in 7th grade, I was bullied nearly every day. I was in the deans office at least 3 times a week. Second to last day of school I got fed up and I pushed him back. The dead told me had it not been so close to the end of the year I would have been suspended but they will let it slide since school ended the next day. I was upset and my mom was furious asking why nothing ever happened to the bully and the dead said how they had no reports on file about him bullying me. The following year I moved halfway through the year to another state but ended up moving back for high school. We ran into my old dead as she apparently lived around the corner from us. She stopped me on day and asked how things were since moving away from the bullying. She had literally acknowledged that I had been bullied even though less then 2 years prior she said there had been no cases. This is how you know schools care more about reputation then their students.

@@fidelianerina they tried to expel me after 7 kids tried to jump me on the bus. The reason they hated me was that I was the schools star at that time (I was upstaged before the year was done). I was the top player on my football team, had straight A’s and just won a science fair competition. I loved the attention and I will admit that I may have been obnoxious about it. These kids start teasing me and bullying my. On the bus ride home they jumped me and I defended myself. The bus driver ended up calling the police and I ended up shoving one kid so hard he cracked his head on the glass. Another kid I ended up breaking his nose. Quite a few people on the bus had to go to the hospital. All of the kids on the bus said that I didn’t start the fight and that I even tried to leave from my seat to the front of the bus. There ended up with half the bus fighting or trying to stop the fighting. The school district sought to expel me and only suspend my attackers for 2 weeks. My mother went to the school board and pitched a fit. When they said that I had hospitalized 2 kids (which was true one I punched in the throat and didn’t know how dangerous that was at the time.) and that they had to take action for other parents to feel safe about sending their kids to school my mother decided she would destroy the schools. She got a lawyer and the local news. The moment it hit the news the school board resented my suspension but my mother wasn’t satisfied. By the end of the investigation launched by the police the school was forced to pay my medical bills and forced to make a formal apology. The 2 kids that started the whole thing were suspended and the teacher that knew this was going on was given a formal warning and was retrained on how to deal with bullies. The 5 other kids were forced to write formal apologies to me and I heard 3 of them got severely punished at home. The school district was dragged through the mud for the remainder of the year. All of this kept me out of school for a month and my grades suffered for it. This was a long time ago and I am now a grown adult and praying the schools do a better job at protecting kids as my daughter starts pre-k next year. That incident will live with me for the rest of my life and it took therapy for me to get over it. I didn’t develop trust issues I just won’t be stuck in a corner and I don’t do crowds now. I also have issues when people get loud with me. My Ex was actually very helpful in helping me to curb my anxiety and that allowed me to be more open with the woman I would eventually marry. My ex may have been crazy but she was crucial in helping me get over the bullies I dealt with when I was younger. And yea my ex is a crazy bag of cats unto itself.

My sister had a problem with a bully in school so she punched her in the face. The other girl was a known trouble maker but the teachers wouldn't do anything about her. My sister was sent to the principal's office.
The principle said she would have to be punished. My sister leaned forward toward the principal and said in a menacing tone, "If you punish me for defending myself from a known bully, next time I'll make it worth my while."

Unless you book really early, you should be able to tell if the middle seat thing is likely to work. You can see how many seats have already been reserved and how full the flight is. What's stupid here is she wouldn't be able to keep her crap on the seat during take off, anyway. It's also dependent on things like flight time, whether the route is more commonly used for business or personal, etc.

People are always trying to take someone else's set on a plane, as well as trying to get a free upgrade. My husband and I always book seat together, so when we got on the plane and I found there was an old lady sitting next to me, I was surprised. She was quite relaxed and happy, and I thought my husband must be in the open seat behind me. But someone else took THAT seat. My husband had called a flight attendant to sort the issue, as his boarding pass put him in the seat beside me. The FA asked to see the old lady's boarding pass, and told her she was in the wrong seat. She was all smiling and saying, "Oh, I don't mind swapping seats. I'm already here, and I'm disabled, so..." The thing is, I AM disabled and really need my husband near me, I need the leg room and proximity to the bathroom available only in first class, and swapping seat with the old girl would have put him in the very back of the plane. The old lady clearly did not want to move, and was playing the old lady game to the hilt in the effort to get the seat for herself. The FA finally ordered her out of the seat and told her to go back to her assigned seat. The old lady huffed and almost worked up tears, and pretended to limp all the way down the aisle to her seat. She demanded a wheelchair when we landed, but we were at the luggage claim when she showed up with a skycap pushing her chair. He left her on her own, and she hopped out of the wheelchair and grabbed her luggage like a champ. She staked her bags on a luggage cart she appropriated, and off she went on her own, schlepping her own luggage. All of which only proves that you can't trust anybody's story when they're trying to scam a better seat on a plane.

The first story- I lost my Dad and 4 other family members in a little over a year ( 3 to cancer). I was very close to all of them and was present when three of them passed. 4 months later, my husband gets sick. After a week, he finally relented to let me call the dr. He was immediately sent to the hospital. The next day he told me he had cancer, and died a week later. It took me almost a year to finally figure out that he knew he had cancer, but decided to live his life fully until the end, instead of going thru chemo and radiation. I wish he had told me when he found out, but I do understand why he didn’t. So so I want to know when I will die? Nope! Live life to the fullest everyday!

He's given her more than enough clues by telling her he's seeing how much help she has to offer. She has no need to apologize. If it were me, I'd call the parents and explain - I'm pretty sure they'd be mortified!! Then I'd leave him a message, explaining he was dumped. I'd attempt to speak to him - of course - but apparently he's only accepting apology calls and. There wouldn't be one forthcoming!

If they were in a small regional airport then OP is correct, there would not be any diversion landings, missed connections is possible though. I was flying out east and the airline had is doing a 3 hr layover. The connecting/layover airport was not a major hub, but it did get some international flights, and where I was heading serviced 2 airlines only. Due to delays at my departure point, my flight landed too late to make my connection. Had to wait another 3 hrs on standby and hope the next flight wasn’t full.

They were very clear that they wouldn't leave if he got sick, they mentioned that several times and even the guy reading the stories said that people are ignoring that part for some reason. They were upset that they had the rare opportunity to PREDICT if would get sick and plan accordingly (unforeseen health issues is one of the top causes for financial ruin and divorce) and he didn't want to do it. That was the issue. Not him getting sick, but that he didn't want to plan for it. If you have the gene for it, you WILL get sick. It's not just an increased risk or possibility, it's a certainty (if you live long enough.) While I understand where he's coming from, I also don't understand allowing your partner to go through the uncertainty when you have the ability to remove it.

The window and aisle seat "trick" does work, if the flight is not full. I've done it a few times. Twice it worked once it didn't. When the middle seat persons showed up we just smiled at each other shrugged our shoulders as the person sat down. We knew it was a gamble and this time we lost.

  • @fidelianerina
    @fidelianerina Рік тому +2

The window and isle seat work sometimes. I've done it going to Italy with my mom every time there's three seats. However, when it comes time we just take the window and middle and IF there is a third they will happily take the isle seat and not even complain, as usually we board fairly quick. Most of the times the middle has remained empty even on "full" flights.

  • @WilliamWizer
    @WilliamWizer Рік тому +2

story 1: yes. the trick to get the middle seat works most of the time. there's an advanced, but a bit more expensive, version. you book all three seats and cancel the one in the middle at last minute. you won't get a full refund (probably) but it's unlikely that somebody manages to buy that ticket so late. I hope the mini karen learned the lesson (the adult karen is beyond help I fear)
story 2: kudos to you for showing that guy what shame is. the "do you wanna try?" tactic is a classic that works 100% of the time. I don't think there was any need to kick him in the face. that can be considered bullying too. just let him attack you (but not hit you. there's a difference) until he calms or decides to leave. in your case you could also taunt him, when he tires, with "are you sure you don't want to try? it feels great and I'm sure one of your 'friends' won't mind to help you"
story 3: there's no need to know to plan things.
I'm epileptic. I don't know, I can't know, when will I get the next seizure. it may be tomorrow, it may be in twenty years. so, I'm always as prepared as I can be. I don't care if I will, or will not, have another seizure. I can have one, so I planned in case I have one.
I have a couple extra possible health issues since I had a few family members with cancer (all dead) and my mother, and two other close family members, have Crohn's disease (it's hereditary). I don't know if I will develop either of them. only way to know is if I do get Crohn's disease and/or cancer. so, I just planned what to do for any combination.
I got a cousin with Down syndrome and there was a high chance that I would get it too. my mother even refused to be tested. she didn't need to know. she was going to have her baby and didn't care if I had or not Down syndrome. she just planned for it. just in case.
note: sincerely, if you had asked me a year ago if I wanted to know the date of my death, I would say no. I don't need to know. since last year, I do want to know. why? because I'm curious if I will be able to endure, and recover, before I commit suicide. technically, I don't need the date of my death. only to know if I will, or not, suicide.
story 4: dump him. he's playing victim to milk you.

We always book the isle and the middle seat in airplanes and if we don't get the extra space, then one of the two in my group, sometimes it's me, will offer to take the middle seat. That way we have a chance to get the extra room, and yet we still can sit next to each other in the end, and give the person who thought they were stuck in the middle a better seat. Everyone wins that way :).

The booking of the aisle and the window used to work much better years ago when there were way more flights. Enter low cost carriers, de-regulation and higher fuel costs. Now you have the airlines running much leaner operations. I started working in the airlines in 1989 up until 2019, and things have definitely changed. You can try doing the aisle/widow thing and ask the person in the middle (if someone takes it) to switch. Nobody wants a middle seat, so that won't be an issue. All I'm saying is the chances of that middle seat staying open have gone WAY down. If you really want to try it then book seats in the back of plane. That will give you a better shot as most people want to be near the front so they don't have to wait to get off the plane... especially when they are connecting.

The fact that the guy in The last story keeps talking about his ex shows that he's not ready to get into another relationship yet.
That's one thing that is a red flag. It's one thing to mention stuff here and there about your ex especially if you were together for years and years BUT when you compare your ex to your current partner all the time, both of y'all need to take a step back and not be together
He obviously is being a man-child because he doesn't want to process all the emotions that he is still dealing with. You could take years to get over a divorce.

How I deal with it is to no longer fly unless there is no other choice. I haven't flown in 25 years (I'm 65 today). Used to fly a fair amount. I've often driven more than 1,000 miles rather than fly. It's just so much more relaxing and fun for me.
I also haven't gone to a movie theatre in 20 years for the same reason, plus all those exciting plots I loved in my 20's got to be predictable in my 30's and boring in my 40's. Just not worth the hassle.
    Eating out...nope.
Maybe this is just part of getting old. Young people love to make fun of us but on this end it just seems logical. When you have the time there are many things that make less sense. The main reason people fly is to get someplace quicker. That goes away when you have time to enjoy other options.

A large Karen comes towards me screaming I threatened her baby. A flight attendant saw the whole thing & ordered them back to their seats. Seems brat boy wanted a window seat as mum sat in the middle seat but was too late to access a window seat for the brat. Story 1: I'm not about people being assholes on Flights because I've been seeing some videos and reports about it on the News.
One thing I can tell you is that I haven't dealt with a Karen on an Airplane because IRL, I've never been on a plane (so far in live)
My friends, family members and I were planning on traveling to Seattle in March 2023 by flight but 2 of them blew their budget for the bachelorette party in my hometown, so right now we're having a conversation of where we can go for a cheaper price

So Seattle is cool but a much cheaper and cooler place to go would be st.loui

@@Pestbot Thank you for the comment but unfortunately that's a little further way and probably more expensive on flight since I'm all the way in Alberta (Canada)
So right now we have Banff and Edmonton as our ideas for a cheaper trip (by driving) we're still having a conversation if we're going with 1 or both locations and if we're adding more or not

This happen to me on an 8hr flight the flight attendant should not allow this. Half off people stuff can be on the next passenger space.
