    Just skip to 10:15. You're welcome.
    This time I fly "Solo"-mon. Actually not. WE GOT A SOLO to Join us! Meet TERRY! (Thanks to geograpeep Josue for getting me in contact with him too) Huge props to him for being in this episode, he was a little anxious because he had no camera experience and English is his 3rd language (after Isatabu and Pijin) but I was NOT going to let a unicorn walk away. You rock Terry! ALSO, we only BRIEFLY mentioned the history, and didn't have enough time in this episode for Famous people, So I'll add it in Fan Friday.

    Hi Paul and GeoNow Team.I am Melanesian from West Papua Province of Indonesia.I am so glad that you mention us Papua and West Papua Province of Indonesia as a melanesian in this episode cuz we didn't get the recognition as we should. We always categorized as a South East Asian by culture, meanwhile we have nothing in common with any other South East Asian Nation.

      @Ryne 4S if we wanna talk abt Papua Politic and the connection with Indonesia, topic abt papua politic itself arise in 2000's after long years of failed integration. And if you care enough to read abt papua's politic then you'll find that politic culture in Papua and other region in Indonesia is as diferrent water and fire. The history of Colonialism and integration in 1963 shape the way Papua's politic occur in this modern time.

      @Ryne 4S you seem to be like break other countries. i am sure as an indian too that papua can't sustain without indonesia because unity only can make you rich and if we talk about recognisation, kazakhstan, uzbekistan, turkmenistan andother pacific islands till now many people don't know. so i don't think anyone can get recognisation by independence because everyone will forget you after some years if you don't develop like singapore.

      Blame the Dutch
      The Netherlands treated their East Indies colony as a unitary state ruled from Java so it's not surprising that the independent rulers insisted on the same model
      I think the British or French would have done it differently

    Let me share a story of mine from Solomon Islands. I was traveling from Honiara to Auki by ferry. It was one of the smaller & faster catamaran boats. Anyway, about 20 minutes into the journey I saw a fish jump up from the water and fly just as fast as the boat. It flew around 30cm above the water for over 30 to 60 meters at a 45 degree angle away from the boat. I was by myself and had never seen something like that in my life. I even had doubts if it was real. I thought I was hallucinating due to the heat. In fact, I was so shy, I stopped myself from asking any of the locals on the boat if they had seen one before. I was worried that they would think I was crazy. It didn't take long however to see more and more of these flying fish and I was confident that I wasn't the only one who could see them.

    My great great uncle, Robert Adams Downing was shipwreck in the Solomon Islands during World War II. His ship was called the USS Helena, and it was torpedoed three times by the Japanese. He was helped out by friendly natives and was sent home a year later in 1945. Thank you to the Solomon Islander people for saving and taking care of him. Love from the United States.🇺🇸🇸🇧

    I almost fell out of my seat when he said guadalcanal that is where the USA took its first offensive of ww2 and marines held out there against Japanese attacks for weeks until reinforcements arrived. They said they were dyeing in some far of land they never heard about and that statement is still true today .

    the snake and mountain story reminds me of The Hobbit. The men inside the mountain are the dwarves, the snake and the gold in the mountain is the dragon Smaug occupying the former dwarven mountain-city of Erebor with all his riches of gold and gems. And the diamond on his head is the Arkenstone.

    When Keith said, "Buy my shirt, not Hannah's", it was the first time he showed any dislike of her in these videos. I always felt the Hannah-Keith "rivalry" was one-sided; Hannah would call Keith disgusting, then Keith would show up, burping or hog-calling.

    • @vigilantcosmicpenguin8721
      @vigilantcosmicpenguin8721 3 роки тому +3

      In the Fan Friday episodes Keith has responded to the rivalry a couple of times. I think the rivalry started because Keith likes the Gators and Hannah likes the Crimson Tide.

    I was fortunate to live and work in The Solomons way back in the 80's in the Western Province. Watching this video makes me quite emotional as a more beautiful and unique place, people and experience is hard to imagine. If I were to choose one experience (adventure a better description) that shaped my life and am thankful for, it would be The Solomons.

    Guadalcanal island (and most of the Solomon islands) was explored by a Spaniard called Pedro Ortega Valencia, who was from a town near Seville called "Guadalcanal" (where my father was from) counting 3000 inhabitants today. It's incredible that such an island was so important during the II WW. So I visited the island in 2012 and fell in love with the desertic beaches and their ship wracks 10 meters off the coast! in 2013, I got to invite some ministers of the country to visit Guadalcanal in Spain. It was a fabolous week.

    Solomon Islanders, if you read this, thank you for being the ones who saved our 35th president. Without you the history of the whole world would be different. Your Biuku Gaza and Eroni Kumana initiated the rescue. A small nation, your step into history nevertheless changed history. So the geography we all share bids us to ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for the world.

    I would love to know what Solomon Islanders think of the book/films, The Thin Red Line. I watched the 1998 film in theaters as a teenager and it introduced me to the Melanesian culture. I know that the geography isn't accurate in the book but the author Jim Jones did serve on the island during World War II. Very curious to hear how the past is taught today. Great episode everyone. I have been to Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji but really want to see the Solomons.
