For mosquitoes key is to apply to the underside of leaves on trees/bushes which is there the adults lay during the day, as well as shady areas. You would not treat entire areas of the lawn that are in full sun as it is not habitable for them there.
What about if it rains every other day. I used the 1 product that was shown , the one on the left ,when he showed the 2 product. It works good. But it keeps raining. Washes it away.
If you have more frequent rainfall and heavier storms, then of course it’s more difficult to rely on residual sprays alone for your mosquito control. This is part of the reason we recommend that you inspect for standing water sites so that they can be eliminated or treated with a larvicide as part of your overall mosquito management. You can use a residual insecticide such as Talstar P up to once a month for mosquito treatment, but you could use a shorter-acting or natural product between applications, if needed. A natural spray like EcoVia EC can be a great option if you are needing to treat more than once a month for mosquitoes: www.domyown.com/ecovia-ec-p-9660.html
Megan Abreu-Pickett I have heard that regarding your lawn as long as it is been mow low you should be ok. Product name tempo an insecticide. I sprayed my house the lawn and coupe of bushes. Even tho my Neighboord had an over grown lawns and lots of debris i had great results. I’m curious to know how the experts do it. I want to add this service to my business.
You really do not need to spray on open sunny areas like mowed grass for mosquitoes. They are not going to hang out in the sun in the middle of the day, and just because they may fly over that area does not mean they are landing there. With residual products, you want to concentrate on areas where the mosquitoes would actually land so that you can get the insecticide in contact with the insect. Since this is always a challenge with flying insects, this is why the non-chemical control methods are just as important for managing mosquitoes.
What were the two products you recommended in your video? I'm tired of dealing with these damn human eaters! I sprayed Cutter skinsations on my legs and the mosquitos act like they liked me more.
The two products we recommend are located here... www.domyown.com/mosquito-control-kit-economy-p-14628.html?rrec=true You would need a sprayer to apply the insecticide.
When exactly mosquitoes are active will vary depending on where you live and the temperatures from day to day. Mosquitoes will be most active when air temperatures are between about 60 and 85 degrees F. Under 50 degrees you will rarely see any biting mosquitoes since they are cold-blooded. You should always aim to eliminate or treat standing water since mosquitoes can still breed in any standing water (above freezing).
Thanks for your suggestion! The term “gnats” can be tricky to address since it can mean midges, fungus gnats, or even different flying insects in different situations. These do all result from moisture issues, though, so identifying and correcting excess moisture issues on your property - just like you would need to do for mosquitoes - is going to be key in managing many other small flying insects, too. Please give us a call at 866-581-7378 for assistance with your needs!
Most people treat for mosquitoes once a month in the summer. Keep in mind that some encapsulated insecticides such as Suspend Polyzone will hold up better to weather like sunlight and rainfall, and all-natural products will wash away more easily in rain. Be sure to review our Mosquito Prevention Guide for non-chemical steps to help you get the most out of your treatments!
+6996katmom The insecticides featured in this video, Talstar P and Demand CS, are not labeled nor are they safe on tomatoes or any other edibles. If mosquito control is needed around your tomatoes or vegetable garden then you would need to select an insecticide that is labeled for use on tomatoes, such as Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor 10% Permethrin Insecticide.
A bee and a mosquito are bot insects, so keep in mind that a product that will kill one kind of insect will kill others, too. We always recommend spraying in the morning or evening when pollinators are less active, and that you avoid spraying pesticides on flowering plants to reduce risk to beneficial insects. You may also consider a repellent such as Mosquito Barrier which would be only a repellent for mosquitoes after it dries: www.domyown.com/mosquito-barrier-p-3893.html Be sure to check out our Inspection Guide, too, for ways to eliminate breeding sites without using chemicals: www.domyown.com/mosquito-inspection-guide-a-492.html
Typically with swimming pools, as long as they are in good working order, and the filtration system is working, it will create moving waters, which are not conducive to mosquitoes laying eggs. The movement of the water would discourage them from landing in that water, and it would prevent any eggs laid from surviving.
Insecticide granules do not work for mosquito control. Mosquitoes must land on treated surfaces. Since most mosquitoes will land and rest on raised areas like trees, bushes, overhangs, etc they will never contact the areas treated with granules. We recommend sticking with a liquid insecticide that can be sprayed on the areas highlighted in the video.

Thank you for your question. We do carry several products labeled for deer flies, but we need to know a bit more so we can make a product recommendation for you. What state are you in? Where are you seeing activity?
My house is in Carrabelle, FL (zip code 32322). I have a 20,000 sqft pond behind my house which has quite a few turtles and several alligators. The pond level varies, but its about 8 feet deep when full. The heavily wooded lot next door is vacant and about 18" deep in pine straw and ivy growth. The deer/yellow flies seem to be worst on the side of the house next to the vacant lot. The front of the house is on a bluff which is quite dry, except the Gulf of Mexico 150 feet away.
+DukeLaCrosse20 Thank you for the detailed information you provided! We recommend using a product like Essentria IC3. This product can be safely used near your pond and is labeled for deer fly control. The product should be applied to shrubbery, trees, and other foliage on your property, focusing on areas where you see the most activity. We do recommend using a mist blower to make sure the application can permeate through dense foliage. Typically deer fly season starts in March and may run through October or November in the south. During these times you will need to repeat treatments at least once a month. It is important to keep in mind that because of your pond (most likely where the deer flies are laying their eggs) you will only be able to decrease the populations, you will not be eliminating them all together. Please let us know if you have any questions. We are always happy to help!
Be sure you do not spray into the creek. Make sure you only do the applications on days where no rain or windy conditions are expected. If you follow these instructions, the creek should not pose a problem. Let us know if you have any other questions, we are always happy to help!
