Interesting perspective. I have to agree 100%, especially since I've been through what he and all pros go through, and yes, there's a lot of bs being taught!
Hey Tom Suguno the honest blackman has a golf question for ya, I use to bodybuild and my muscles and tendons are tight, I swing like old Timer Allen Doyle from the PGA seniors tour, any suggestions on getting more distance on those short jerky swings.
Oh, Al Dente, you're just scratching the surface if you've only watched one video. I hope you'll think about subscribing as there's a lot more where that came from!! Cheers! Tom PS: Finally a UA-cam screen name that matches the way I like my Rigatoni!!!
Man, I continue to groove this swing that Tom displays simply and logically. I am 50 and about a 7 handicap. My last 4 rounds - 74,73,72,72. Averaging about 275 off the tee. Picked up accuracy and yardage on every club. I am stunned at how much he has helped my swing. The last few months have been so gratifying. Crispy like KFC baby.
I just wanted to say BIG BIG THANK YOU Tom - I have been carefully following your Golf Swing simplified course over the past month, applied each technique in order as per your perfectly structured training and breaking all my old habits. I've gone from double bogey each hole to pars and birdies and very occasional bogey (My handicap is dropping from 24 to 5 and continues to drop). This is coming from a person who has been at the course and simulators every day for the past 4 years and failed to improve consistently. For the first time, I no longer have pain in the ribs and lower back and its now the 3rd week I'm hitting each shot exactly the same as the next. I've paid and wasted literally thousands in training which got me nowhere, they would teach me something, it would work for a day, then back to zero. I'm so glad I found your course and I highly recommend to everyone, its the best $10 a month you'll spend in your life.
@Mudassar Khan - That is *AWESOME!!!* I am absolutely thrilled for you!! I truly appreciate your kind words and I am very glad the instruction in my online school has benefited your game so quickly and dramatically!! But let's be clear - your embracing the process and putting in the necessary time and effort are what have transformed your golf game!! All I did was provide you with a road map to get there!! Thanks for sharing your success and for your wonderful endorsement of the SagutoGolf online school! Keep up the great work and have fun out there with your single-digit handicap!! Tom
I’m a 72 year old ex golfer who has taken up golf again but I’ve struggled. Since watching your “ pulley system” in the swing, I’m cracking it really well with a slight draw Thanks for your tuition, you are an unusual character.. THANKS. BERNARD FROM SYDNEY AUSTRALIA.
I've had some great success on the golf course in the last 25 years, and it's because I tuned into what was pure and organic, instead of complicated & technical. Tom's teaching is pure and organic, along with his personality, so listen & learn my friends, I know I did. GREAT STUFF Tom!!
LEGIT advice here! Blown away that you shared this for free...playing for close to 30 years...thousands in clubs and lessons and never “figured it out”...hell I even live on a golf course. Those who have been through it know what I’m talking about. This took a few sessions on the range to work out but I did it by myself and it works. Set up was important, ball position key, picture hammering in a nail with a hammer and don’t forget to lock the left arm straight. Got it all and brother it was a life changing lesson. Driver through 60* wedge it’s all the same! Thank you... how can I patronize you for the free lesson?
Been watching many trying to TEACH and REACH viewers/golfers…..BUT nobody has enough smarts to do it other than you! Learned so much about keeping positions into my forward foot….Thanks for helping an older guy like me hit it my best!
My pleasure, Don! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating well with you. Thanks for sharing, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!! Tom
Listen to Tom. Before I started practicing this method, I had 2 scores in the 70s in the past year. I started watching Tom's videos 6 weeks ago. Six of my last 10 scores are in the 70's, including a 77 from the tips and a 72 in the past week! This method has taken the right side of the course out of play entirely. Also, I'm 61 years old. Keep the videos coming!!
Came across your golf videos during lock down in the UK, so had to wait some time before hitting a golf ball. Tried your swing method today - it works! Thank you. It's so refreshing to come across good instruction that is not complex. Let's hope a lot of people get to see these. You'll make a lot of golfers happy.
I have been playing golf wrong going on 30 yrs, its time I finally heard somebody tell me why all the money I have wasted in lessons wasn't working. Thank you Tom for making golf fun and not like a part-time job.
Wow, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video. I recently returned to golf after three years away from the sport due to law school. Unfortunately, I forgot the basic fundamentals of my old swing and tried to correct my new problems using the incorrect method. This definitely explains my mysterious back pain and why I was missing left quite often. Watching this video just made it all "click" again. Back in high school, I had an amazing swing coach who taught me how to swing the "correct" (Saguto's way). I picked up golf at age 15 after a brutal football injury ended my football/baseball career... my coach helped me to swing without pain which enabled me to make the golf team and then reduce my handicap to single-digits within 1.5 - 2 years. It took a ton of hard work to cut from low 100s into consistently breaking 80 in that time frame, but this type of swing made all of my competitive goals possible. I'm starting to remember why I loved this game more than anything back in high school. I kept it simple and didn't cloud my brain with a million stupid swing thoughts. I can't wait to capture that feeling again. Tom, thank you for making this video.
I'm 76 , I've been a 18 handicap for years, I watched this video, did exactly what was taught, just shot 77 at centennial golf club medford oregon. Never broke 80 before. This is the best instructions on golf I've ever seen. Thank you for teaching this swing. My shots are much more pure and accurate and longer, I love it.
That's FABULOUS, Vernon!!! I'm very glad to know that this video lesson helped you! Congrats on your first-ever sub-80 round, and thanks for sharing your success!! Keep up the great work, and please be sure to tell all your golfing buddies about SagutoGolf! Tom
I want to thank you for this video, I watched it before I went on the course today. I did what you suggested, and end up shooting the best I ever shot. To make it better. I got my first hole in one!! This video made a lot of sense, and it helped me tremendously. So, thank you very much for keeping it simple and sharing.
Love this bloke, so funny and personable. I've learnt a lot from just watching his videos. And I've never had a lesson nor swung a club at taking up this game at the ripe old age of 50. Gotta love his content, he looks like Paul Rudd the actor/ comedian but puts a lot of awesome content out there. I'm now hitting it so much better. Cheers Paul, best wishes from Nth Queensland (Australia) ya funny bugger, keep up the great vid content.
LOL!!! I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Thanks so much for sharing your ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! Cheers, "Paul" 😎 PS: By the way, since my channel's content is performing well for you, I think you will also benefit from my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” - where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Thank you Tom! For the past two years I’ve been trying to put it all together as soon as I saw your video I stopped thinking about my swing and only thought about my target... and I started hitting the ball towards my target and stopped hitting behind the ball. Finally! I didn’t realize I was standing to upright to point my shoulder at the ball appropriately and keeping my wrist angle made all the difference in consistency. Thank you!
I really like your method of teaching this swing, it really does work. I have been using it for a year now and i'm here to tell you it WORKS. I still have to perfect it , cause i live in a winter climate, but everything you say about it is true. I have been watching the pro's more intently and you are right , they all have that stack and tilt move to some degree. When you hit a good one it really feels great to watch it soar right at the pin. I have struggled my whole life trying to do the old conventional way, and even took a boat load of lessons, to no avail , thank you again for your time and videos.
It's my pleasure, Christopher, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating well with you!! And I appreciate you validating what I've been saying all along with regard to the Tour pros. By the way, have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Here's a link if you would like to know more about it: saguto.golf Thanks for your comment, keep up the great work, and most importantly - have fun out there!! Tom
I like the simplicity of the explanation. Most teachers like to break the golf swing down into way too many sections. Simplicity is a virtue! I've always been taught to swing and pull through with the left arm and leave the right arm to just ride along. Heading to the range today!
Just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Started golfing 3 years ago and have been stuck in the mid 80s this year. I knew it was from not getting on greens in regulation. After watching this and bringing it to the range my last 3 rounds have been 77, 76, and 74! thank you so much, I was ready to give up on the sport and I'm so glad i didn't. Having more fun than ever!
Dominick - I'm very glad to learn of your success through this instruction, but more importantly I am THRILLED to know how much you are now enjoying the game!! THAT is what this channel and my online school are really all about!! Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work!! Tom
After watching a handful of Tom's videos I shot an 82, my last round before that was a 95. Normally I would top 3-4 drives/shots per round, this last round not ONE topped or thing shot, I did have issues with a crazy hook that has been sorted out with a change in ball position. The $10 per moth is well worth the investment! I anticipate cleaning house on my annual 3 day golf trip and having my friends scratch their heads in amazement!
That's fantastic, @3rdGorilla!! Thanks so much for your support and for your endorsement of the online school! Keep up the great work and fabulous playing, and have fun out there cleaning house!! Tom
Thank you. I watched this video this morning and my game CHANGED today. It will never be the same. THANK YOU. I feel like I have a repeatable move now for the first time ever. 30 years, man. All wrong until today. Thank you.
Bro... it took me over a year after deciding I was "going to learn to swing a golf club", to actually learn to swing a golf club. But I'm pretty sure I'd still be "chopping wood" were it not for your channel. Thank you.

I truly appreciate your kind words, J A A, and I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game!! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!! Thank god, I literally went to the range today and got told my swing was all wrong because I was doing these things😆 One tip I think that goes naturally with this, is 'put the golf ball further away from you.' Putting the golf ball further away from you, gets you to naturally swing tilted.
I appreciate that, Declan Moran!! I hope you'll consider subscribing to my channel if you haven't already done so. Also, since it sounds like you may be relatively new to the channel, I wanted to briefly make you aware of my online school as that is where the most structured opportunity for learning resides. Tom, dude I honestly had the old swing, I went to the range today and tried this!! I've been playing for 9 years and today I hit the ball so much better l, with every club!!! So thanks Tom
Mr. Saguto, I'm 51 and have been playing bad golf for decades. I can't drive straight or long and my irons simply suck. There's no nice way of saying it. I chunk, I slice, I swear. It really is the golf trifecta. The first video of yours that I saw was this one. You're insane. But, you know, in a good way. Your simple approach really resonated with me and your 'death zone' for the downswing is brilliant. I watched several of your videos and was looking forward to getting out the range to try these tips out. There have been a lot of these...'OOOOH, that's great, I need to try that!' and it never changes anything. But. I just got back from the range. Your tips completely changed my irons. From Chunky to Crispy. Of course, not everything was perfect but, wow, what a difference. Also, I hit three drives that were all longer than anything I've ever hit in my life and dead straight. I'm trying not to get too jacked up here but cannot wait to get out on the course. Thank you. I'm a convert!!
Hi Robert, I truly appreciate your kind words and I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game!! (And by the way, you can just call me Tom...) It sounds like you've got the right attitude to do well with the swing change process - excited to put it into play but also keeping your expectations in check by "trying not to get too jacked up"! So during this time while you're working on implementing the components of the new swing, on those days when you do get out on the course you can expect a mix of crispy fresh KFC from the top of the box along with some of that soggy stuff that's been sitting at the bottom for a few hours. But....you now know what you've got and what the potential is, so as long as you keep it all in perspective it's ultimately going to work out great for you! (By the way, have you given any thought to enrolling in my online school? For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year it'll get you on the fast track to owning this swing through short, simple, step-by-step videos. I'm very glad to have you onboard here!! Tom
@@SagutoGolf your approach isn't that different, in opinion.a melding if Hogan and Austin. Dude, golf should be fun, should be PLAYED,. All these guys "working" in their game I don't understand... Thanks for responding...I subscribed. Peace.
SagutoGolf used to watch Mike give lesson at Studio City Golf early 90s - dude was so chill... rarely got outta his chair or off his milk crate... gave me 2 thoughts as a beginner... still use em
I don't need all the metaphors everyone else does on some of their videos this is the most relatable knowledge anyone can digest. I have been taught so so wrong ever since I was a little kid and no one every told me I was doing it wrong until I got fed way too many areas to concentrate on. I took lessons and the whole 9 and we need to keep it simple like he does in these videos because at the end of the day we are hitting a ball with a stick.
How interesting and sad it is that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness so all can get out there and properly, simply, and blissfully hit a ball with a stick.... 😎 Thanks so much for your kind words and support. I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Tom PS: By the way, here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/
I cannot stress how much my ball striking has improved DRAMATICALLY by watching Tom’s videos. His teaching style is obscure, he is hilarious and the results are undeniable. His simple explanations are awesome. Bottom line is he has unlocked the power and consistency of my swing. I’m 50 and pretty much a 7 handicapper that was just looking for some ball striking help and what I got has totally transformed my game. The crisp irons I have been hitting are just ridiculous. I was absolutely stunned at the distance jump I got instantly. I thought I was at my power potential but he took me from being too steep and over the top to just pure powered iron shots with such an easy swing. Thanks a TON Tom.
@@SagutoGolf the only issue I have been having is occasionally mis-clubbing because I am not used to hitting my irons so far. It’s a great problem to have. I hit a 185 yard 7 iron last week. My ceiling prior to your videos was 165. I am always excited to play golf but you have enhanced that excitement even more. Thanks dude.
Tom, thank you or this livesaving video. I'm your thirtyfive-golfing-year-guy, who - up till now - continuosly looked around for remedies - and tried hundreds. Now my search is over. My swing is like Iron Byron's - straight on target, longer than ever and CONSISTENT. Yes, CONSISTENT. Have set my goal for single digit HCP, before I turn 80, which might happen next year, providing - well, you know. Thanks again!
Another great video. I’ve never felt comfortable and always felt mechanical trying too swing and hit the ball using my left arm hun I know my right arm is my dominant arm. Everything you are teaching makes so much more sense. Thanks a bunch... really!
Tom I am a Believer. Last year I started changing my swing, it doesn’t change overnite. This year, I am having fun.. It works. Thank you Tom. Simple, easy and not to many working parts.
That's awesome, Joseph! I'm very glad to learn of your improvement. You are absolutely correct - it takes time, patience, and dedicated effort, and I commend you for that as you are now deservedly enjoying the fruits of your labor!! Well done and thanks for sharing!! Tom

This dude is right on the money! I took a lot of lessons from pros that taught me how to play the wrong way. Load your back foot. Get your hands high on the back swing. Flip your hands over on the follow thru to get a draw. ALL WRONG! I started playing better when I stayed dead center with no sway. It actually feels now like I’m loading weight on my front foot and swinging around my spine. The rotation of my large muscles creates the speed thru my hands. I stay centered rotate around my spine and throw my hands at the ball (that’s what it feels like to me. Your mileage may vary.) and your hands stay QUIET! You don’t feel like you’re manipulating the club head back to address position. It feels like you’re at address position thru the entire down swing.
Oh my god! After watching a ton of technical golf tip videos to try to help me stop hitting thin shots of the toe, this is the best video I've seen to simplify my swing! Fantastic! Love the frank advice!

Smiling here on your tips. This winter in Tucson I had to golf one-armed because I had left wrist surgery. I was amazed how great my drives and irons worked! When I healed and went back to using both hands again back to the same old s***. Thank you!
You he have transformed my swing Tom and I am just hitting the ball so good with better grip , weight transfer and trail arm tucked in close . Bless you for your wonderful tips .

Great stuff! I came into this video carrying a thousand different swing thoughts in my head, and now after watching it I feel ... relieved. Like, it doesn't have to be so freaking hard. Liked the hair, too!
I had to figure this stuff out on my own and I made one realization. Instructors love to put ideas in your head and send you on your way to figure it out on your own. I love the no BS approach. It’s as simple as you make it. I used to struggle with a slice because of all of the information about keeping “lag” through the golf swing and trying to hold my wrist angle. I realized that cocking my wrists in the backswing actually made me cup my wrists and with my attempts to hold it I forced the club through wide open almost always at impact.
@@dawsonchurch5872 There's a huge difference in cocking the wrists and allowing them to load on their own in the downswing. Centrifugal force will allow the wrists to release without any additional force.
One of your best instruction videos ever. Love how you basically explain to eliminate all the bad habits and keep it simple. The right arm thing is absolutely the best. That part is is starting to change things for me big time. Glad I found this video.I’m still trying very hard not to kill the ball. My slower swings are going twice as far for some reason and that’s difficult to wrap your head around. Still trying to not hit the ground behind the ball. That part is one of my biggest struggles. Actually tore a tendon or muscle on the inside of my right right elbow joint from hitting the ground. Maybe I’m dropping my right shoulder too much.
I'm glad you enjoyed this video from the archives, Gary. Yes - watching the ball take off like a rocket with a seemingly effortless swing is a beautiful thing, and it's part of the counterintuitive nature of this greatest of games. Based on your comment you may benefit from these lessons: - ua-cam.com/video/VtufwVMChHg/v-deo.html - ua-cam.com/video/oNy1dyEQ2cc/v-deo.html Beyond that, I'll see you in the school....
Wow. Went out on the range today and implemented this and...wow. The ease of my swing in relationship to the distance and line was...well ... unbelievable. Thank you. Truly. I think I might be able to play fun golf this year for the first time ever.
My personal struggle has always been the “weight shift” which when done done properly causes the sway as you show SO WELL!!. I’ve struggled with the trigger/beginning of the golf swing. I’ve been played for 40+ years as started as a kid and have played to as low as 6 hcp, now 8.5. UR one key of pressing DOWN with Leg leg when beginning the backswing was MAGIC!!! I tried a few swings and it feels PERFECT! No one EVER taught me this. Can’t WAIT to try this on the course/backyard/range! THX
Wanted to give U update. With the lockdown in MidAtlantic area courses are closed. I got to play a private cc with friend using proper social distancing. I focused on beginning with pressing L foot DOWN, not slide/sway back as explain in this video. I wasn’t trying to kill the ball as hadn’t played in > 2 months but swinging smoothly. I swayed once or twice BUT-ball flew very nicely off the club face with a gentle buttery draw! I got through the ball to the L side on the follow through like I’ve NEVER down in my life!! I need to continue to practice and increase swing speed as courses open and weather warms BUT.... THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! This simple explanation and tip really changed my swing thus far. Brian
After watching this video I played a round and drove the ball better than I ever have. I was always taught to rotate hands (club) in the backswing, and by not doing this made it so much easier to make great contact with the ball. Cant wait to get to the practice range and work on this some more. At the very least it saved me buying a new driver.
This guy gives the best tips out there on youtube. The advice is simply spot on. Struggled with a bunch of issues he highlights and came to the same conclusions he explains. Good stuff man
I just wanted to thank Tom for the super easy fix! I have been struggling for months (years) trying this and that to fix my broken golf swing with the same results. BAD!!!! I watched this video yesterday morning, practiced the swing in my living room, went out and played in the afternoon. I am a 24 handicap and at age 74 really don't expect much, but this is what happened. I birdied the first hole and shot 41 on the front. On the back I shot 40 with 6 bogies, 2 pars and a hole in one! Crazy! Thank you so much Tom.
You are correct sir! I play a lot of golf and any time I try using my hands; DISASTER. If you see any instructor on UA-cam teaching how to use the hands, run away!
Have been stuck around 84,85 for a couple of months now at my home course. Played my blitz this morning using what I have learned here after practicing for a couple of weeks and shot 78. Keep the great videos coming.
First video without all the bs and that actually makes beautiful simple sense. And importantly actually works, transformed my swing and consistency in a matter of minutes of practice,, no more distractions with thoughts of I need to in this position and that, restrictive positions that prevent a fluid simple swing circle around the body. Eliminated over the top chopping motion I struggled with for years, clean crisp shots all day long. Thank you!!
Your videos are helping me a ton, ex baseball player at a pretty high level and have played for a few years with my pop, he has been playing for about 40 years. The way you simplify the mechanics work great for an athletic person. It hasn't happened overnight but I have gone from shooting an average range of 90-100+ down to 80-90+-
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Nick, and I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game!! You are correct in that this is not intended to be a "quick fix" or bring about overnight success. Instead, this is a complete system which if gone about patiently and intelligently will produce a solid game and much enjoyment for your entire golfing life (which should be quite lengthy given the body-friendly characteristics of this swing). Thanks for sharing your progress and keep up the great work!! Tom
I learned after 30 years of golf the old way to take the club around, how to straighten my trail leg, stop rotating my hands(most golfers use too much hands), and tilt the shoulders. I like your punch explanation of extending the trail arm. That is where I am lacking along with putting slightly more weight on my lead leg. Great Job on this short video !!!
update , after watching this vid today I went to the range and hit some great shots, so redeeming, just getting this refresher was huge, hit some just prefect shots , a lot of shitty ones but feel like i’m 90% back on track. You are the man Tom, on my bucket list, an in person lesson with the great Mr. Saguto. Don’t stop believing people , great golf is truly right around f the corner waiting for you, me, us, and Tom is the road to take, trust me after trying for 23 years and finally hitting great shots, due to watching Tom’s vids. Oh, and last comment for now, it’s all about Hogans magic elbow and using your front leg as the pivot point, that’s the power source, and Tom is on point with his lessons, nothing better out there.
I appreciate the follow-up, Wyatt!! This powerful, consistent, body-friendly swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of blissful ball striking up to and including at the game's most elite levels. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Tom
Thank you very much you've probably just solve the one problem that I have had all along and you giving me away to go ahead and fix things I have just been promoted to intern coach trainer but I don't want to start doing that unless I am completely confident in the way that I play golf I've been playing Special Olympics golf since 2009 and have been team captain for the past 5 years and we play tournaments every year but surprisingly enough from 2009 till now I have won a total of 27 medals in the Special Olympics and I've only gotten three bronze medals and the rest of them are gold and silver but those Metals mean nothing to me because I absolutely love playing golf that's why I go out there and to meet the friends that I haven't seen for a year and it's time that I want to go ahead and start teaching people how to play golf but I also need to go ahead and start cooking some of my flaws thank you very much you have helped me a great deal thank you very much from DC new coach
Simplified swing explained with humor. Good job young Jedi! Weight shift: there's a natural weight shift in the footwork as per tennis/baseball. But, in golf, staying "over the ball" is key. Release: the club will naturally release AFTER hitting the ball. Thanks.
This is the best explanation of how to swing I have seen, it really helped me! Makes it so simple if you take his advice you can hit it well! I’m sold on this. MB
Welcome to "the dark side", Mark, where the spoils of "conventional" instruction - chronic inconsistency, physical pain, and endless frustration - yield to the fruits of body-friendly enjoyment of this great game for a lifetime. 😆 I'm very glad to have you on board!! And by the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system and achieving consistently crispy, compressed, ball striking bliss, please consider my online school. So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. Here's a link if you would like to know more about it: saguto.golf Have fun out there!! Tom
I keep coming back to this video after working on my swing for a few weeks. I continue to learn and to lengthen and straighten my drives. There is so much here to digest that I can't pick it all up in one sitting. I am now consistently hitting the ball 50 yards farther with my driver than I was this spring. Probably 25 yards farther with my irons.
Johanness - I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game to such a dramatic extent!! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!! Tom PS: By the way, since you mentioned that you've revisited this video on multiple occasions, have you given any thought to enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school? For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm constantly adding new content. There's even a members' forum where you can ask me specific swing-related questions and suggest new content ideas, and I will soon be adding live Q&A sessions as well. Here's a link if you'd like additional info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.
Great video. I've always like the stack and tilt. I understand what you say about the trail arm being the most important and provides power which is totally different what I have been taught. I play right handed but I am left handed at everything else but I do putt left handed. I can't help but think I may become a better player if I tried it left handed. Thoughts??
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Andy! It's an interesting scenario, but you're definitely not alone! Just ask Phil... (from the opposite side, of course) Short of saying that you need to train your trail hand to hit - which I realize may be difficult - or switching sides as you suggest - which is quite drastic but certainly doable based on the extent of your left hand dominance - I would first recommend you try working on maintaining your connections and allowing the lower body to bring you into impact. This Hogan video may help to give you a visual in this regard: ua-cam.com/video/iejRWhuB7y8/v-deo.html. Also, even though this impact video lesson focuses on maintaining the angle between your trail arm and the club shaft, it may help you feel impact in a different way that prevents your dominant lead hand from getting out of control: ua-cam.com/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/v-deo.html One of the keys in your situation is to not allow that strong arm - which probably seems to have a mind of its own in anxiously wanting to take over when you're trying to bust one - to jump ahead of the lower body and throw the entire downswing out of sequence, because if it does you're likely taking regular trips to Pull-Slice City. If you can train it instead to trail the lower body to the point where the shaft is parallel to the ground on the way down, then you should be in position to hit hard with the dominant hand as if it were a tennis backhand shot or throwing a frisbee. I hope this helps! Tom
I didn't think this was possible, too good to be true. I just hit a few plastic golf balls with my 3 and 5 iron with your swing tips and hit them with ease. The flight of the ball was superb. My previous swing - the plastic gold balls flew an inch or so off the ground. I'm converted. Thank you so much for this video. Now subscribed.
got more out of this then any lesson I ever took! my whole life I have been lifting the club and subsequently go in and out my swing slot. It also cause me to shank as well! This swing path will hopefully eliminate the shanks! Thanks fro lesson!
You've just made the video I would have loved to have made. You are absolutely right. I've been told that as a right handed golfer it's a left handed game , as recently as three weeks ago during a club fitting. I couldn't be bothered to argue the point. I have the sensation during the backswing that I am pulling the club , away , back and around with my right hand. Left hand just along for the ride and then swing back around , down into the ball , no rotation of the hands , wrist set . Like I said , you've made the video I would have made. Thanks. I'm subscribed from here on in.
great video, finally someone who tells it like it is. Has anyone else watched swing videos with pompous dudes who drone on and on and basically complicate a swing so much you need to be a physics professor to understand? Thanks Tom
First 9 of the year hit 2 drives 265 uphill and a 282 yd slightly down hill Pretty good for 62 yrs old! The stack and tilt idea was the key for me. Thanks, Tom
Interesting concept. Last year I started my driving range practice with a 7 iron swinging with my dominant hand only ( other hand tucked into the back of my belt ) and it didn't take very many shots before I was and continue to hit clean crisp shots of apx 100 yards. Then I switch to my 5 iron and do the same. When I use both hands I have better control and more distance of course but I keep the same feel. At 61 as I slowly lose some of my strength and rotation, I find the one handed drill a great way to warm up and also hit balls at the same time. My wife also started the one handed swing and after some eye - hand - ball coordination frustration, she is also hitting better and cleaner shots with her irons.
You’re right. I’ve been swinging the old way. The first year I saw a vast improvement with my swing. I am now I’m on my third year and it hasn’t improved at all since me first year. I golf 4 times a week on average. There seems to be constant contradictions from one instructor to the next. Some days my swing seems to have gotten worse and I can’t figure out why. I have resorted to slow motion golf swings done by the professionals. I watch one area at a time. For example I will only focus on the wrists for a while, then the weight shift, then the twisting, etc. you are correct in what you are saying. Their swings look different than what instructions say to do. I’m going to give your lessons a shot. I’m going out today and focusing on swinging with the upper body and not my arms, focusing on power from my right arm and not my left, and not lifting my arms at the top of my swing. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thank you!
Thanks Jeremy! Please subscribe to the channel if you haven't already done so, and keep me posted on your progress! Also, if you'd like to get on the fast track for learning what I teach please consider the SagutoGolf membership plan. For just $10 US/month you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only instruction system. This will really simplify the process for you. Very good video. Lots of great advice. I've been playing golf for 45 years. Suffered at the hands of many golf books and tips, videos etc. Funny, I just came back from the practice tee. I quit for the last 8 years because of frustration with my swing. So I started from scratch now with what I could make work, and low and behold, its pretty much what this guy says. After three days on the practice tee, I'm finally get the ball under control with straight shots.
Pure genius how you produced this!Damn good information with a touch of humor and just enough madness that drew me in for the entire video. You were born for this. Sincerity can’t be faked. Your comment....”just got back from a cruise & haven’t hit a ball in 3 weeks....” had me in stitches...LOL!! Look forward to more of your very unique teaching videos! 👍👍
Having been under the Covid19 self imposed house arrest, I was searching the Web and came across this instruction. I was and am still in shock!. Everything you've stated golfers do wrong is as though you played every round of golf with me. I spent the last 2 hours watching and re-watching the lesson. You've explained the technique so easy, I ran out side with by 6 iron in a drizzle and attempted to do these "simple moves" I am so excited to get to a driving range as soon as I can. Too bad, your across the country in SC as I'd surely sign up for a weeks lesson if you were in Portland, Oregon. Anyway I can't thank you enough and will surely drop a line when I can get out. THNKS A BUNCH
Thank you, thank you. I have been trying to learn how to swing a golf club and it has been so awkward until I watched your video. Feels totally natural.
Thank you for being so generous with your golf knowledge. I understand your frustration, my own golf partners keep swinging the same old way and expect better results. But it never seems to happen. I have sworn that I will never again try to help them. Not that I would not want to, but I know they will probably never change.
I sincerely appreciate the kind words, David, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating well with you!! I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, however - and as you have alluded - in this regard our responsibility can only be to inform and not to convince. Thanks again! Tom PS: By the way, if you really want to teach those playing partners of yours a lesson, please give some thought to the comprehensive, structured, step-by-step learning platform in my online school if you've not already enrolled. It will put you on the fast track towards mastering this system and taking ownership of a consistent, powerful, low-maintenance, body-friendly swing. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
He does have a good golf swing but guess what? My instructors my entire life would be very proud of him because he swings the club exactly the way they teach
I want to tell you people this guy breaks it down perfectly! For a young guy he really has his stuff together. Thank you very much for the punch in the gut called REALITY!!! My swing has never been so good.
@ducebear, I truly appreciate your kind words and I am very glad to learn that my channel's instruction has benefited your game to such an extent!! You've obviously done an excellent job digesting the lesson content, incorporating it into your swing, and taking ownership of it!! Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!! Tom
Dude you Rock! I just found you on UA-cam and you change my game watching this one single video I can’t say thank you enough really I’ve been struggling to hit the ball for over a year now wow what a difference thank you so much keep up the good work I will be watching all of your videos here on out!
"Its a little white ball and a 3 foot stick.." LOL LOVE IT... It was all a conspiracy to keep most people from EVER getting better at golf. I have friends that are professionals and when I fought all this "technique" for years I finally realized they never did any of it. I actually quit playing for a while, partly because I was fed up with barely breaking 80 and partly because of life. Finally got serious again last summer when my son took an interest in learning and I worked with him for a year. He is now on his high school golf team. Tom, I am very impressed with your videos. Love it. Can I come work for you? I am now looking to finally enter the PGM program and do what I should have done 20 years ago..become a teaching pro. Your fundamentals that you teach are LIT
Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness... Thanks for your kind words regarding my instruction. I very glad to learn of your rekindled enthusiasm for this greatest of games, and I wish you all the best in the PGM program! (And be sure to stick to your guns with regard to swing theory. The truth will set you free!) Tom
This guy a GD international treasure. I started swinging this way a few years ago; golf is a blast now. Love seeing things like this certify my thinking. There is a nail in the ball and you need to pound it in with a hammer. Make it simple.
I appreciate your kind words, Brian! I'm glad to know that you're enjoying my "simple" content, and more importantly that you're having a blast playing this great game!! Cheers! Tom
I like what you are saying, but one thing I have NEVER heard any instructor say is 'keep your shoulders level'. Every single one I have seen actually makes a point of telling people to rotate the left shoulder under the chin, without standing up/extending your body. And none of them has EVER said you should 'move off the ball' by putting all your weight on the right leg. All of them advocate turning around the spine and loading the INSIDE of the right left about 70% - 30% weight distribution. As for the rest, I think you are correct about the 'lift your arms' and 'shallow the club' nonsense which I believe just makes life difficult for everyone.
I’ve studied the human body and anatomy drawing. The tilt is usually at 1:00. Everything can be related to with angles to the arms on a clock … ⏰ hope that helps. The back swing is 🕛 12:00 with the shoulders. 11:00 end of follow through on swing (end of swing) the angle 📐 of the club to the ground is usually 10:00 🕙

@@matt7iron One of my playing partners is a body builder. Very thick through the chest and shoulders. He hooks every shot.
Talk too much shit mate, just get straight to how to use an iron..you’re welcome
Finally a golfer with some personality. It's nice that he seems fed up with me. So am I.
Oh, Al Dente, you're just scratching the surface if you've only watched one video. I hope you'll think about subscribing as there's a lot more where that came from!!
Cheers!
Tom
PS: Finally a UA-cam screen name that matches the way I like my Rigatoni!!!
Lol
Man, I continue to groove this swing that Tom displays simply and logically. I am 50 and about a 7 handicap. My last 4 rounds - 74,73,72,72. Averaging about 275 off the tee. Picked up accuracy and yardage on every club. I am stunned at how much he has helped my swing. The last few months have been so gratifying. Crispy like KFC baby.
Nice!!! ps- 10, 9, 8 76ers....1,2,345 6ers
Damn right my man.
Same here! Toms videos have helped me tremendously. I get more yardage with less effort. Three Fs baby lol
KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!
I really like angry Paul Rudd’s golfing tips.
You're doing too much do less......
I was thinking the exact same thing, I wanted to watch this movie

Since watching your “ pulley system” in the swing, I’m cracking it really well with a slight draw
Thanks for your tuition, you are an unusual character..
Tom
Changed my life... High 90’s to low 80’s immediately after watching this video. You da Man!
Ya ok

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Thanks so much for sharing your ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!!

Never thought in a million years that I would thank someone who yelled at me. Thank you Mr. Saguto! You simplifies the crap out of how-to-golf. 😂🙏

I like the simplicity of the explanation. Most teachers like to break the golf swing down into way too many sections. Simplicity is a virtue! I've always been taught to swing and pull through with the left arm and leave the right arm to just ride along. Heading to the range today!
So I shot an 81 this morning. Best score I’ve ever had. I adopted your teaching in the off-season and have never hit the ball better. Thanks man!

Thank you. I watched this video this morning and my game CHANGED today. It will never be the same. THANK YOU. I feel like I have a repeatable move now for the first time ever. 30 years, man. All wrong until today. Thank you.

Tom, your 3 tips to do are so simple and yet EFFECTIVE. This is becoming my new swing because my old way didn't work. Thank you
Thank god, I literally went to the range today and got told my swing was all wrong because I was doing these things😆
One tip I think that goes naturally with this, is 'put the golf ball further away from you.'
Putting the golf ball further away from you, gets you to naturally swing tilted.
This may be the greatest golf instruction video I have ever seen.
I appreciate that, Declan Moran!!

Tom, dude I honestly had the old swing, I went to the range today and tried this!!
I've been playing for 9 years and today I hit the ball so much better l, with every club!!! So thanks Tom
Mr. Saguto,
I'm 51 and have been playing bad golf for decades.
Hi Robert,
I truly appreciate your kind words and I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game!! (And by the way, you can just call me Tom...)
It sounds like you've got the right attitude to do well with the swing change process - excited to put it into play but also keeping your expectations in check by "trying not to get too jacked up"!
Here's a link if you'd like more info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.)
Thanks very much for sharing your success, and keep up the great work!! I'm very glad to have you onboard here!!
Tom
I've been using the Mike Austin swing for twenty years... Madly simple, all torso, straight and long. No grunting. I like your style, Tom.
I've watched Mike Austin more now that people on the channel have been mentioning his name. I like his approach to the swing
@@SagutoGolf your approach isn't that different, in opinion.a melding if Hogan and Austin. Dude, golf should be fun, should be PLAYED,. All these guys "working" in their game I don't understand... Thanks for responding...I subscribed. Peace.
SagutoGolf used to watch Mike give lesson at Studio City Golf early 90s - dude was so chill... rarely got outta his chair or off his milk crate... gave me 2 thoughts as a beginner... still use em
it's funny how mad you're getting haha
Thanks so much for your kind words and support. I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!

Great tips about the shoulder and right arm. I'm with you, I want to play golf and have fun, not practice every day.
That's fantastic! Sounds like you've achieved that 'Crispier than KFC' feeling!! Great work, and thanks so much for your kind words!
I really like what this guy is saying , he keeps it simple and makes sense , Thank you.

Tom I wish this was the first video I ever watched on instructional golf, love your personality and forget the naysayers this video just makes sense.

Jim Morrison is alive and giving Golf lessons! Great tips!
Big hitter, the lizard king!

Smiling here on your tips. This winter in Tucson I had to golf one-armed because I had left wrist surgery. I was amazed how great my drives and irons worked! When I healed and went back to using both hands again back to the same old s***. Thank you!
Hey Tom, Your suggestions shaved off a stroke per hole with lots of straight shots and good contacts! Mucho gracias!!

But doesn’t he cock his hand is the video?
@@dawsonchurch5872 There's a huge difference in cocking the wrists and allowing them to load on their own in the downswing. Centrifugal force will allow the wrists to release without any additional force.
When I watch your videos, I’m totally convinced there’s still hope for humanity. Love them 👍🥳
One of your best instruction videos ever.
Based on your comment you may benefit from these lessons:

Beyond that, I'll see you in the school....
You're cool and pure, Tom. I appreciate the lessons!
I call BS.....
This got on my recommended, not disappointed at all!!!
Thank you!!
Your tutorials are easy to understand. My game is improving. Thank you!
Tom
I love ya bud, don't, repeat don't ever change. Keep up the wonderful concepts. From a 73 year old guy stuck in the rut!
Awesome tip John Snow. Thank you!
update , after
watching this vid today I went to the range and hit some great shots, so redeeming, just getting this refresher was huge, hit some just prefect shots , a lot of shitty ones but feel like i’m 90% back on track.
Next lesson...how to use the "period"!
Simplified swing explained with humor. Good job young Jedi! Weight shift: there's a natural weight shift in the footwork as per tennis/baseball. But, in golf, staying "over the ball" is key. Release: the club will naturally release AFTER hitting the ball. Thanks.
Thanks Michael - I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Tom
Finally!! Thanks for keeping it real, you rock Tom!!!
This is the best explanation of how to swing I have seen, it really helped me!
Makes it so simple if you take his advice you can hit it well!
I’m sold on this.

Pretty much the best video I've seen so far on here. All makes perfect sense.

@@SagutoGolf Thank you!
(from the opposite side, of course)
Short of saying that you need to train your trail hand to hit - which I realize may be difficult - or switching sides as you suggest - which is quite drastic but certainly doable based on the extent of your left hand dominance - I would first recommend you try working on maintaining your connections and allowing the lower body to bring you into impact. This Hogan video may help to give you a visual in this regard: ua-cam.com/video/iejRWhuB7y8/v-deo.html. Also, even though this impact video lesson focuses on maintaining the angle between your trail arm and the club shaft, it may help you feel impact in a different way that prevents your dominant lead hand from getting out of control: ua-cam.com/video/Fe2kQ44azJ4/v-deo.html
One of the keys in your situation is to not allow that strong arm - which probably seems to have a mind of its own in anxiously wanting to take over when you're trying to bust one - to jump ahead of the lower body and throw the entire downswing out of sequence, because if it does you're likely taking regular trips to Pull-Slice City.
Thanks Tom
Jim Morrison is alive and well and teaching golf. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you!

Great lesson!
Jeez, it really is that simple!!
Another new subscriber here, S&T just may be the way forward!
Thanks Tom, great video.
Thank you, thank you. I have been trying to learn how to swing a golf club and it has been so awkward until I watched your video. Feels totally natural.
Different! Amusing! Condescending! Yes! But Lord Farquaad is right! Truth!
I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, however - and as you have alluded - in this regard our responsibility can only be to inform and not to convince.
Thanks again!

He does have a good golf swing but guess what? My instructors my entire life would be very proud of him because he swings the club exactly the way they teach
Uh, yeah... My instructor has never said to do any of the things he's saying I'm doing wrong. Glad I have the instructor I have.
I want to tell you people this guy breaks it down perfectly! For a young guy he really has his stuff together. Thank you very much for the punch in the gut called REALITY!!! My swing has never been so good.
@ducebear,
I truly appreciate your kind words and I am very glad to learn that my channel's instruction has benefited your game to such an extent!! You've obviously done an excellent job digesting the lesson content, incorporating it into your swing, and taking ownership of it!!
Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!!

The truth will set you free!)

Owner of the range:”goddamit saguto! Get back in the goddamn range cart!’’

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing the results of your research, Michael!
@@SagutoGolf NP it’s easier to think of angles as the hands on the clock …
