Question: when you transfer a game from system -> extended storage, does it do it instantly or does it have to re-download the whole game?
When you transferred fortnite, it seemed to do it instantly (even tho you specifically picked it bc its small) but it's still 13 GB which wouldn't download instantly like that.

OMG thank you. I have more games uninstalled than installed and I've been shy of upgrading my storage because someone told me you had to take the whole platstation apart.
It's not the whole Playstation, you remove the flap on the left and remove the 4 screws innthe corner. But if you do it that way, make you backed-up your saves before removing a physical hard drive. Don't get me wrong, I understand that an external hard drive is easier for yourself but also, the physical hard drive method, SOME but all people who haven't done before can. Just do what's comfortable

If it’s an harddrive you won’t be able to use it with ps5 it’ll only accept ssds
@@idiotnyn wow that's just plain wrong it most likely will have a 2.5 sata connection meaning it will infact be able to take hard drives.
Meawzersss I think I’ve read somewhere that it can accept hdds but it’ll only work for ps4 games not ps5. Not sure if it was just a rumor but it is possible I think

Fyi. For anyone whos new to external hard drives you do want to actually go to that setting to unplug it because if you do it with out doing that it could get damaged
How do you mean? I’m planning on buying one very soon, and if I configure my settings with it, transfer game data, and then turn off my console, it messes the external hard dive? I’ve never owned one before.
@@aether4554 if its doing any reading/writing yes. Ive pulled usb drives out of pc's and never had an issue.

I had to delete Dragon age inqusition and GTA V to download an update for Modern warfare.. RDR 2 and modern warfare take up the most place, and I looked into buying an external hard drive, so I wanted to see how it is before buying and your video was straight forward and showed how easy it is to connect it! @@tomulator Once the external drive is connected and formated as external storage. All you will have to do is move the current games on internal drive to external storage you dont have to download them again.

Quick question, If I disconnect the hard drive at any point in time while it has games or anything, will it mess up my ps4? Is there any safe way too disconnect the hardrive?
mess up the PS4 NO .. you might damage the external hard drive ... i think if you go to the hard drive from the ps4 it will give you an option so safely unplug it!

This will come in handy. I just got a standard 500gb PS4. I’ve only got TLOU installed on it and hope to get part 2. Both games and then some should be able to fit onto the console, but I’m glad know know about these external hard drives, since I’m still pretty new to all this. Lol.

Can I remove the hard drive after then just put it again when I want to play?
Why would you do that? Just leave it there and forget about it. The more you remove it and reconnected the more risk you are taking of files getting corrupted. Also when removing you have to settings and tell it you are removing it like a USB on a computer.
Falcon's Gaming so just say you were moving houses or whatever for example to take it out you have to go through settings and click where to remove it. The only thing putting me off from buying one is that I don’t want to lose data or DLCs and trophies if something happens and jacks up my hard drive or games. Great video though 👍🏻

Thanks for the video. I whipped out an old drive I wasn't using and hooked it up. It was a 2tb usb 3.0.
so when i put games into me external hard drive and then disconnected it from the ps4 and put in another ps4, does the game work there instantly or will say u have to download or somthing
it will work .. but you still need the CD to play it .. only difference is you WONT need to download the entire thing again

not sure I dont own any digital games... but I would assume you can take the hard drive to any other ps4 and play it.
This is the question ive been looking for, im assuming by disconnecting the hard drive you can reconnect it into the same ps4 and continue from there but if you connect into another device im assuming it will need you to format it again as well as if you try taking it back to the old ps4 after connecting into a new one, if anyone finds this theory out lmk please, thank you!
