- In this video I show you how to setup an external Hard Drive on the PS4. This is a new functionality in the latest PS4 update (4.5).

Some games take up a bunch of storage. Also as long as it's hooked up I can still play the games that are saved to the storage yes? And if I was thinking about getting another one I can have both running at once or would I have to alternate?

I've been waiting for this for over a year. 500GB was just not enought. I bought an external a year ago, then realized it was not as easy as xbox 360 was and was only able to save game file save games, videos and music which was BS. I cant believe it finally hapenned. Woo Hoo.

When you transfer a game from your system storage to your external do you lose all of the screenshots, videos and saved data?
Tommy Kiely nope those stays on the internal hardrive. Only thing that transfer are the full games and download contents
2 question.
1. Does this deleted any progress on games?
2. Will accidentally unplugging it from the console corrupt the storage space on it?
No it does not delete any saved data it just puts the application onto the external hardrive and unplugging the external drive will not corrupt your system storage your games that we on that external drive will just be locked until you plug it back in .
Saved data on your games will stay on your hard drive.

bryan goldbaum as long as you power off completely i dont see a problem.
To properly unplug it, its like any plugged in device on a pc. You should pre the PS button then click on "stop using this extended storage" then it is safe to unplug. Just like any other plugged in device to a pc if you unplug the device WITHOUT doing this you can corrupt you data and lose it.

ParadockMW look on Amazon or eBay, just type USB 3.0 for PS4 and make sure it's 250GB to 8TB, the prices may be different, I haven't yet bought one but I will soon good lucky with that tho hopefully this helps👌🏽

2tb works on every PS4 no matter what
in case of a power outage will the date become currupt if the HDD is connected when the PS4 is running? if so how can i prevent this ? there are time where the power might go out but no way of knowing when it will happen

I had that happening to me my power went out while i was having my hard drive connected to my ps4 during gameplay and none of my games got corrupted. When that happens it will tell you to repair the Hard disk before using it again you should do that and your games will be fine
buy a ups (uninterrupted power supply)

I have a usb stand for my ps4 where it also lights up blue. Plugging the hard drive to the stand didn't recognize the hard drive. You have to plug the hard drive straight to the PS4 itself. It should recognize it.

yeah dude just get the latest software update. get a external storage must be a 3.0 usb storage (very important) and follow his instructions. you can store all your games on the external storage and use ur system storage for screenshots, game saves n apps.
