      And most people are falling for it. No offense to Goldfyre or any other creator or fan, but I kinda feel like Lego won't stop until influencers and AFOLs (cause let's be real, not many children are getting these sets) boycott large pricey sets. Then we might even get a normal wave of medium or small sets going on for a smaller price.

      @@jcole__3 Even if that were the case, why make this set to begin with? I know there are a lot of Nintendo fans out there, but you could easily build your own stuff for a quarter or a fifth of the price and still end up with a similar size build. I don't think a 200 dollar set will sell as well as a 50 or a 75 one.

  • @ACLProps
    @ACLProps 28 днів тому +42

    The biggest problem with these kind of 2 in 1 sets is that you're more than likely gonna end up paying a significant premium for a secondary build that you might not be that interested in. With the fender stratocaster for example if you only wanted the set in red then you were basically paying extra for a ton of black pieces you didnt want. This is like that but on a much larger and more expensive scale

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 27 днів тому +1

      I think stuff like that actually adds to the value of a set, as it can be used in 2 ways, according to preference. You can switch the build if you want another display, that adds value. I don't think the actual bricks add much to the actual real value of a set, it is the 'prercieved' value that it adds too, so Lego can ask more for a product because the people that buy it think it is more valuable. The actual plastic price is still quite low, it is their design studio, thei corporate philosophy, their parks, their customer service and whatever else Lego does, that you are paying for.

    The only reason the price is so much more expensive then most of the same value is because Nintendo didn't want to give us a lego set of their characters at a good price. Lego just has to compensate for Nintendos ip status.
    Thought, if we continue to get new sets for lego zelda, i wouldn't be apposed to a few ideas:
    A mini termina set complete with giants and temples
    -A stalker guardian
    -Each of the divine beasts with link in their respective armors and weapons and the champions
    -Full scale link to the past/link between worlds Hyrule castle
    -The master sword pedestal with the three sacred stones
    -A phantom from spirit tracks with customizable
    -a twilight princess darknut

    I think the price is high, but fairly priced when you really look at it. 2500/$300 is not a great price per piece, but there are no stickers, there are new recolors for pieces, new moulds for the minifigures and accessories, and then nintendo has to get a cut of sales, so there is the Nintendo IP tax. The set is already backordered for preorders so it will definitely sell well.

    • @jcole__3

      You’re one of the only people that has the right take on this. People forget that Lego doesn’t really get a say on the price especially licensed sets. I personally think this set is awesome. Yea 300 is expensive but for what you’re getting I’d say it’s worth it. 5 exclusive mini figures cause we should all know Nintendo won’t want those figs sold in any other set. And some molds and prints we never have had before. The price per piece I think will add up pretty well. My brother is a true legends of Zelda fan and he always tells Nintendo does jack for merch for the games and rarely does stuff like this happen. I’ve seen so many fans of the series excited for this set. I just hope certain lego communities don’t start raging like I’ve already been seeing.

      I thought it was $200, but $300 dollars is even more crazy >.<
      For the most part, the reason Lego gets to use these insane prices is people that buy it at insane costs regardless. There is a world full of people out there that wants affordable Lego sets and the only thing they make is sutff for the few people that have too much disposable income and Lego investors. If it is true that it is Nintendo pushing this, then this set might as well not have been made. I hope Lego communities rage about every set that is overpriced until they start making some serious changes, this has gone way too far for the longest time.

      @@jcole__3 It's just crazy the amount of hate this set is getting for the price when it really isn't that outrageous compared to other sets... ahem X-Men Jet..
      I mean, the Lego community tends to agree that $.10/piece is a good price for a standard non-licensed lego set, and when you break it down, this set comes to $.12/piece. For this kind of licensed I think that 2 cent difference is not that bad considering the IP.
      A lot of others are comparing this to the Daily Bugle to say it's a bad deal, but the DB was just a wonder of a good deal and is really an outlier so it isn't really fair to compare. Compared to other sets, the price really is in line.

    While I don’t think it’s priced fairly, I also recognize that it likely isn’t Lego themselves. Nintendo seems to be behind the insane price for this one. As an add-on to this, I have noticed that Lego sets that are licensed tend to have a $10 per 100 pieces price guide, but there are a few that break that rule, like Lego Marvels The Hoopty, which was twice the price a set with a similar piece count would have been.

    Referencing the point in the video that the OoT Geat Deku Tree's mouth opens but there not being a picture of that, there isn't a direct image of the OoT Great Deku Tree's mouth opening up but there's an indirect image on the storepage that makes it look like the mouth lifts upward kinda like an old garage door rather than tilting downward which would make a lot more sense given it's a mouth and the Great Deku Tree in game slides it's mouth down into the ground.
    Now, I know they can't do it perfectly like the game, there isn't enough room with the set for the mouth to slide straight down.
    But at the same time, there's a mechanism in the images of the back of the oot great deku tree that made it look like it slid inwards, which I thought would be a good compromise. And especially with the price of the set to the piece count I'd expect it to have good engineering like that. Pay for the talent of the build at least.
    But no, which sucks, despite my greater wishes of childhood nostalgia, I think if I do get it, I'll probably stick with the BotW version because of that.
    Also wish it's roots were done better and closer to the game with that price point like the BotW one appears to have been, but I guess that's LEGO nowadays.

    Honestly there's a lot of new molds and unless LEGO makes more the Legend of Zelda sets (which they totally should and I'd buy every single one of them) I fear they might not do more sets seeing as the master sword is dual molded, botw link's torso and legs have a lot of details, LEGO often wants to include less prints in cheaper sets, the gold elements usually cost more to make than normal coloring, etc

      You mean like how governments and central banks overprinting money leaves normal people with less buying power and corporations still following a growth mentality in that environment is causing people to be disgusted en masse by their pricing?
      Because that is what really going on.
      What businesses are doing is already insustainable in a normal situation, but with costs rising dramatically around the globe, this is simply inexcusable. Also, it will ruin these businesses as they lose consumer trust and support. The massive isles of Lego products will disappear from the stores over time as barely anyone is able to buy them anymore. I fully understand they want to make money, but the system is broken and only rewards a tiny fraction of people at the top.
      This is not Lego's fault, but they sure as hell can design more affordable sets, or cut costs elsewhere so their products stack up far better to their pricing. All this is doing is playing right into their competitors hands and lose them money in the long run.

    AH yes the good ol' Lego tax: find a fair price ($200) and then add $100. XD Man, I don't play Zelda, but it still is really annoying that Lego can practically just throw out unreasonable prices, and then at the same time expect people to pay for it, disgusting IMO.

    This is one of those moments where Lego is trying to make us think the Prints are supposed to be the reason for the prince (hence so many nice prints - love them) ... but I think it's the franchise cost. Maybe it this set was 20%-30% cheaper (without having a franchise) it would have been 2500 pieces for 240 or even 200 Euro -with full prints, I would say that would have been decent. Not the best price, but decent.
    It's a shame they waste so much parts budget and print budget for sets that are not for everyone. Barad'Dur looks like a really good offer opposed to this. a shame it doesn't have more prints.
    I might consider it I get a good sale on it, or get some of the accessories ... but the build itself is just a nice tree. Would love to fit it in the Medieval Town Square. =)))
    The minifigs are really good, same with the accessories.

    I’m not defending the price, but I can see where it comes from. 3 new hair molds, the ocarina mold, the Hylian shield, THE MASTER SWORD, all prints no stickers, and the biggest one, the 2 in 1 aspect. I think that’s what people forget when they just look at the price tag, because 300 is ludicrous for a Lego set of this size, but 200 for one that transforms so incredibly was probably seen as far too cheap when Lego set the cost. I think 250 is where I personally would value this set.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 27 днів тому

      Nobody would ever think a Lego set was too cheap. If anything they would say it is great value.
      The Viking Village for example was good value. It had quite a high parts count for it's cost, an interesting build, quite a few unique printed parts and no stickers, 4 good looking minifigures with a ton of accessories and cost $150, which you could find a little cheaper if you looked for a discount. And I even had to think long and hard to buy that set, as it is a considerable amount of money. I got it for 135 and I think I did okay.
      This set offers less value, for twice the price. I know you are paying for the IP, but Lego shouldn't be doing IP sets if this is the result.

      @@yokaiwatcher8500 Alright, that makes sense. I understand there are always people defending Lego and it's prices, but seeing as the sets keep increasing in price, or getting smaller for the same prices, or both, I still find it baffling that people actively think this is justified.
      The biggest issue isn't even if it's a great set anymore, which is the saddest part. Nobody really cares about sets they can't afford, or that they can never justify the price for. Still, there are always people buying these up like it's normal, which sends a wrong signal to Lego.

  • @planetdee3587
    @planetdee3587 24 дні тому

    On a piece to part ratio, it makes sense. But after you hit a certain point, that ratio makes less sense. So comparing it to my first major set, the SW Ghost, about 1400 pcs for $160. So double that count and price and you get 2800 pcs for $320... $20 is about 250-300 pcs count. So is about right... but once you pass $200... it is hard to justify.

    The gray market has Zelda figures / shields that resemble lego currently. The real problem is that each theme having high $ sets forces you the be a niche enthusiast instead of dipping ur hand into all themes like before. 4 years ago I’d buy city, speed champ, creator, technic , ninjago, monkie kid now I ask myself can I moc/engineer it better then them

    For anyone who cant afford this set, knock off lego may be a better alternative, based on release schedules it shouldnt take more than one year for the set to be copied and should be sold at 1/3rd of the price. Knock off lego doesnt have the best reputation but from my experience, if you dont mind slightly more fragile pieces it should suffice. 300$ for this set is just absoloute insanity

    $200 would be my preferred cost with the piece count. But there is always a "franchise Tax" associated these sets. Gotta pay more for our geekdom.
    I also think it ruins the chance of original lego IP castle theme sets being released. Between this and future potential Zelda sets, D&D (and CMF line), LOTR/Hobbit leaves little room for non-franchise IP to put on the shelves 😢
