Yes! By the way this is not an official lyric video and is full of errors. But the song kicks ass. You should see the live version with fire and flames 😉
Our playlist becomes more and more synced for every new band you dig into - kinda. I would recommend: Ciricle, From The Pinnacle To The Pit, He Is (which reminds a little of this one; it's like a church praise song about the dude in the basement), Faith, Rats. And thanks for a great channel! :)
*wave* Fredrik Åkesson from Opeth played most of the guitar tracks on Ghost latest album. And Mikael Åkerfeldt played on a song from the album before that.
I'm over the moon you're finally reacting to some Ghost! Some suggestions: Ritual, Cirice, He Is, Rats, Dance Macabre, Square Hammer, Mary on a cross. That's a lot, I know but you seriously can't go wrong with any of those
it always confounds people when Ghost sounds softer than their theme builds expectations of, but consider this... the devil isnt going to threaten you or scare you... he is going to allure you, seduce you, convince you that he is on your side, and that is why Ghost sounds poppy, to attract more listeners and because it fits the gimmick of the band.
Tbh i still think it's weird how Many people miss that point, it's just looking at the way papa moves and phrases his singing, and trading the lyrics it's obvious the character it's a cult leader that "allures" his followers
I think everyone understands your reaction completely. I have been listening to Ghost for several years now and my wife and I saw them twice this year. The live show is just spectacular. The concept comes across even better live. Let me say that I think the problem with understanding Ghost is the problem of trying to assign it a genre by either the sonics or the lyrics. That misses the point. Ghost is a concept, a world, like Harry Potter, like LOTR. It is a narrative, a perspective. Think of it as Edgar Alan Poe, but as a musical, and the stories are historical fictions. Tobias has taken the elements of the State Church/government, and turned it inside out, exposing the dark side of religion, the dark side of humanity, the dark side of history. To bring awareness to humanity’s inclination to sweep things under the rug, to bury problems, to be insincere, he brings these hidden things to light. Rather than hide and shame, his devil pope glorifies and revels in its evil. It’s much more palatable when the veil of deception is removed. It is a clarion call for sincerity and honesty in our dealings with ourselves, our society, and our collective history. The music is just a vessel to get it into people’s minds that it might effect a positive change. And it is so well done. Everything evokes nostalgia for the western world: the religious imagery, the chanting, the architecture, married to nostalgic musical choices. Ghost is the most original and exciting thing to happen to rock music - in my opinion - in thirty years, and maybe, the most important. And I say all of this, as a Christian, and as a preacher.
I agree you cannot paint Ghost into a box. There music just spans so many different genres. My family and I saw Ghost this year also, They are absolutely amazing live! Tobias knows how entertain and fully play up his characters. I cant wait to see them again.
They had to be Ghost BC during the release of this particular album for legal reasons. (US only). It has since been cleared up and now only go by Ghost. The BC stuff was a thing for like 6 months.
The interesting thing about the accent is Tobias is a Swede, but all the Papa characters are Italian, as the clergy is a mockery of the Catholic church and the Pope. So the pronunciation of 'Satan' has more of a Italian/Latin vibe. A lot of fans i've spoken to thought he was talking about the planet Saturn so it can be quite confusing
Oh hell yeah Lauren! Finally some Ghost! Love their older stuff (like this one) moreso than their newer stuff, but such a unique and awesome band. MORE GHOST PLZ!
So this is on the darker side of their discography, as this whole album was. They don't get much heavier either. They're loved by so many metalheads because they're metal-adjacent, classically styled rock. Lots of the iconography and lyrical style of metal (Tobias, who basically IS Ghost is a huge old school metal fan) but in a more poppy rock style. Basically take equal parts ABBA and Slayer and you end up with Ghost. For further Ghost recommendations (from darker to more poppy) "Ritual" "Cirice" "Square Hammer" "Dance Macabre" Mary on a Cross" and "Spillways".
They dress like a Black metal band and sound like rock / metal ABBA. Some recommendations : Mary on a Cross Cirice Ghuleh / Zombie Queen Rats Dance Macabre Hunter's Moon Square Hammer
Two great songs back to back! Type O may be my favorite band of all time and Ghost may be my favorite recent band. Loving these reviews. Keep of the great work.
You were right about new people being here because of Ghost, please do more Ghost! Your reactions are beautiful ahhaa and you'll love (hopefully) everything they do. I honestly can't think of a meh song they might have. Subbed!
Coming in late, but just in case nobody else has mentioned it, this lyric video gets some of the lyrics wrong. "When men exist to burn" is actually "when penance is to burn." "Say the words that you heard" is actually "say the words that you learn." "Overlord of flies" is actually "Now behold the lord of flies." "Travel the nations" is actually "tremble the nations." Great reaction. Thanks so much!
Finally Ghost!! Ahh you'll love them..this band is an obsession for me, music, lyrics, the story..all papas 😁 and ghouls..please you need to listen more..🖤 My suggestion for the next song: Cirice Square Hammer Faith Elizabeth Con Clavi Con Dio
It's pretty standard fare for them. And not a bad starting place at all. Fantastic song from a great album. Your mileage may vary track to track, but generally speaking you can't really go wrong with Ghost. It's pretty much all fun, catchy and well written stuff absolutely slathered in occult and horror tropes. Created to be "THE BAND" that everyone was freaking out about during the Satanic Panic in the 80s/90s. Good stuff!
I haven't really kept up with Ghost, but cool fact for you. I believe I saw an article that said Fredrik Akesson from Opeth helped with Ghost's new album.
Your channel just popped up in my feed thanks to this video! Obviously I watch a lot of Ghost reactions. 😆 Everyone says the same thing about them sounding different than what their appearance would suggest, and I definitely get it. Their sound has evolved a lot over the last decade, and many other comments cover that quite well. As far as their genre, Ghost doesn't stick to a single genre, which I believe is part of what makes them stand out. Now for my blasphemy amongst Ghost fans - Year Zero isn't in my top 10 or even 15 Ghost songs. I would recommend Square Hammer, Faith, Absolution, Rats, Witch Image, Mummy Dust, Call Me Little Sunshine, Spillways, and Hunter's Moon, in no particular order.
Answering questions even though this video was 8 months ago and you probably got answers. - They are Swedish, that is where they originated from + They came to America, And in America they were not allowed to use just "Ghost" so they had to go with "Ghost BC" due to that. But you can just call them Ghost because everyone else does. - They're a Swedish Satanic Rock Band so maybe that's why Year Zero sounded sorta funny? or why it surprised you? idk how else to explain it. - Fun fact if no one told you this, The Ghouls have new uniforms everytime a Papa is no longer one, So the outfits of the Ghouls change. Which means they no longer look like that now. P.S the Ghouls are the people that were behind Papa Emeritus III. I forgot to add that there are Ghoulettes which just basically mean female Ghouls that are in the band. - Fun fact 2: There is a lore behind Ghost and every Papa sounds different but it is the same person playing all the Papas.
My favourite answer to give when someone asks what genre Ghost are is "Scooby Doo music" thanks to that one 4chan post. It's always fun to me to see people looking at the band's visual aesthetic and expect their sound to be a lot harder than it is, because that's the exact reaction I had to Kiss when I was a kid. My parents' generation though they were "Satanic"?????? lmfao
This video gets a couple of lyrics wrong, always bugged me. I love Ghost. We did some karaoke at band practice two days ago. I sang Con Clavi Con Dio. Hint hint wink wink.
Ghost puts on a really good concert too, and recently they released a live video for their song Mary On A Cross from their recent Tampa, FL show and you might check that one out. Otherwise I'd recommend their songs: Rats, Cirice, He Is, and Hunter's Moon
An actual great intro to Ghost. Too many things to type in a comment. I wish we were just having an out loud conversation. I'd say "He Is". For recommend.
Oh you've opened a bottomless chest with Ghost. They're so many genres, there's so many stories. Ghost imho are just fun. So much different, fun music.
they have several different sounds! and no one can really agree what genre they are lol. for newer songs by them, check out “cirice”, “square hammer”, or “spillways”. for older ones, listen to “ritual” or “elizabeth”.
If you react to more start out with their older songs! anything from opus eponymous to meliora (the first 3 albums). this range of time is when they were putting out their best music imo. prequelle is good too.
Two of my favorite bands, TOOL and Slipknot have evolved over time but still sound like TOOL and Slipknot even as they changed. Ghost, my third favorite band, is VERY different. They've changed genres practically every album & every EP. You never know what they're going to do next. For all we know their 6th album will be country or jazz or electronic or death metal. There is no way to predict it. That's why I love them so much. And yet they always sound like Ghost somehow but a Ghost that changes genres ever few years. Their 2022 album is basically hardrock/pop metal.
Fun fact! - Dave Grohl produced one of their albums and collaborated with them. Foo Fighters then did a Bee-Gee's/disco tribute band called the Dee-Gees and released an album called "Hail Satin".
Musical style and influences Ghost's music has been categorized in many genres, critics have classified them as hard rock, heavy metal, doom metal, pop rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, occult rock, and arena rock.
ppl would save a ton of confusion by just starting their Ghost intro from the 1st album Opus Eponymous. They started as an occult rock act, homaging the esthetics of and riffage of Mercyful Fate, but adding a volvo full of Abba in the mix. recommendations: Ritual Stand By Him Elizabeth Satan Pray Con Clavi Con Dio
I would say that they're a modern classic rock band with a metal aesthetic and a very cool horror-themed story from album to album. Are most of their lyrics Satanic? Yes, blatantly because of the overall story. Is it serious? No, it's a story and many of the songs are very tongue-in-cheek and full of euphemisms, think Type-O-Negative. For example, the song Monstrance Clock has a very literal meaning, but I prefer the humor of the other one. They aren't really a metal band, but lots of metalheads like them, but that also means that lots of metalheads hate them just for that reason lol
I had to relearn everything I thought I knew about Metal since I did not know it is a genre from the 60s.. This is Heavy Metal, for sure, even if it isn't very metal by todays standards
For Ghost I'd say "He Is", "Dance Macabre", "Ritual" or "Kiss the Go-Goat" are a good selection of different sounds from the band. They've evolved a lot from the first album to the latest and lost fans along the way due to it. Still enjoy them but they've certainly left their roots of being a bit like a late-60s early-70s rock group to a more morbidly pop-rock band with glossy production.
To me, this sounds like something they might have played in a goth club in the 90s. I think the only other song of their's that I've heard is Cirice. I saw the video. Interesting. : )
Awesome! This is one of my favorite Ghost tracks. The first three albums and the Popestar E.P. are great and solid throughout. Their fourth album went of the rails and, at least to me, is not as good as everything that came before it. Listened to the fifth one once when it was released but, it did nothing for me. This track is from their second album and along with Jigolo Har Megiddo are two of the best on there but, again, the album is pretty solid. The first album and third a much stronger though and I could recommend any track from either and they’ll impress you. Elizabeth, Ritual, and Stand By Him are great and have a really old school Proto- Metal vibe. When that album was released 12 years ago I called it Horror Rock, though it does have some Metal elements. The third album even more so. If you’re so inclined they did record a cover of “Here Comes The Sun” which was done in a somewhat dreary style that, if you can believe it, rivals some of the dreariness of Type O Negative. I highly recommend it if nothing for the novelty of such a joyful and uplifting sung done convincingly in the opposite way.
My dear, Sweden is a real brooding ground of really good musicians per capita. It's like the only good thing about Sweden, the music! 🤗 Thanks for an awesome upload. ❤️
Their genre is kind of a modern take on Blue Oyster Cults style of hard rock. Very theatrical and peppy while also dark and creepy. It’s supposed to be a take on what it would be like if satanist had their own version of “Christian Rock” like skillet and switch foot. Making it heavy metal kind of goes against the theme because their whole thing is using music to seduce and recruit the masses through catchy melodies and memorable riffs.
Ghost makes rocking about the devil cool. Not evey song is devil centric but its like 70% of what they do. Try Spillways, it's a good jam that has an 80s sound
the reason they were called ghost b.c. was because the early stage of the band, there was a more popular band called ghost, so they had to make their name ghost b.c.
Ghost is sort of "eerie classic rock" with almost ballad-like parts of most songs. The satanist theme is pretty appropriate since satanism (as opposed to devil worship) is basically about critical thinking and opposing authority in a religious context. Which they use as a bit cheeky symbolism for their satire and parody ;)
"I was not expecting that!" -- everyone on hearing Ghost for the first time.
And also every time you listen to a new Ghost track 😁
Sweden is full of awesome people. Shout-out to anyone watching from Sweden! :D
Swedish death-metal is undefeated though I gotta be honest...
Yes!
By the way this is not an official lyric video and is full of errors. But the song kicks ass. You should see the live version with fire and flames 😉

If your looking for more Swedish metal I'd try out some Meshuggah, Soilwork, or Avatar.
I'm over the moon you're finally reacting to some Ghost! Some suggestions: Ritual, Cirice, He Is, Rats, Dance Macabre, Square Hammer, Mary on a cross. That's a lot, I know but you seriously can't go wrong with any of those
YES nice request i was just gonna suggest those songs. Good ones, also He is that is funny one :)
Ritual!
Got to add spillways and in the 20's imo
How could you forget Monstrance Clock?

The best description I have seen of Ghost so far...
Hey, atheist here, but I love your reply. You're alright, man. Unitarian?
They had to be Ghost BC during the release of this particular album for legal reasons. (US only). It has since been cleared up and now only go by Ghost. The BC stuff was a thing for like 6 months.
BC standing for Because (of) Copyright 🙂

I was first introduced to Ghost when they supported Pearl Jam in 2013, they played this live and very much remember my initial shock! Love this band
Oh hell yeah Lauren! Finally some Ghost! Love their older stuff (like this one) moreso than their newer stuff, but such a unique and awesome band. MORE GHOST PLZ!
And especially their live performances, I might add.
Ghost is a really nice rabbit hole to fall down :)

Hunter's Moon
Square Hammer
This song is a monster live. Best gig I’ve seen in maybe ever a few weeks ago in Sydney.
From the Pinnacle to the Pit is one I would recommend from Ghost! You’re great as always! Hail October!
First, I was Lorna Shored. Then, I was Cannibalized. Now, I've been Ghosted. What a month. :)
Ghost is a great band. Hope you react to more of their content 😁
Now you have to walk through the 'Portal'😈
Ghost is awesome! So glad you're hearing it. Their song that most match Spooktober is Cirice, in my opinion.
Two great songs back to back! Type O may be my favorite band of all time and Ghost may be my favorite recent band. Loving these reviews. Keep of the great work.
I just started watching you this week but love your music choices so far. Ghost is amazing.

Yeeees finally! I have been waiting for you to react to Ghost. I love love love your reactions!!
*FOR HALLOWEEN 🎃 GHOST - HUNTERS MOON* Is about Michael Myers
Hello. Swedish metal fan here. Love to sing this chorus loud at the concerts... seen them live a bunch of times!
Ghost is a satirical band. They mock religion, politics, culture, you name it. The stuff on the surface are metaphors for other issues.
They often make catchy songs. Some groovy 60's hippie rock, some 70's disco, some 80's heavy metal. Very broad.
To be fair, satin is really nice feeling. I wouldn't fault people for choosing to wrap themselves in it.
Your channel just popped up in my feed thanks to this video! Ghost B.C. was due to some copyrights issues in the US. After a few years it was sorted and he could use the regular Ghost name for US releases.
Uh ooh, another rabbit hole...
Btw, didn't Fredrik from Opeth play a large part of the lead guitars on Ghost's latest album?
Awesome band anyway =)
Yes indeed he did ! And Mikael played the ending of a song on the album before (Helvetesfonster).
Answering questions even though this video was 8 months ago and you probably got answers.
- They are Swedish, that is where they originated from + They came to America, And in America they were not allowed to use just "Ghost" so they had to go with "Ghost BC" due to that. But you can just call them Ghost because everyone else does.

MORE GHOST! Truly an inspiring Rock and Roll band from Sweden. Love the tounge in cheek humor too!
Love how you start bobbing your head around 6:02 🤣 I'll tell you the truth, I had no idea this band existed until a month ago, now I'm obsessed.
Ghost puts on a really good concert too, and recently they released a live video for their song Mary On A Cross from their recent Tampa, FL show and you might check that one out.
Otherwise I'd recommend their songs: Rats, Cirice, He Is, and Hunter's Moon
YESSS, GHOST 🙏🏻
An actual great intro to Ghost. Too many things to type in a comment. I wish we were just having an out loud conversation. I'd say "He Is". For recommend.
More Ghost!! I recommend Cirice next!!!
Yes! I was wondering if you were going to react to them. Saw them in concert and it was amazing!
A fun song is "Danse Macabre." It's super enjoyable, extremely upbeat, and brings back memories of epic 80s rock.
He Is with the music video will give the perfect vibe to understand modern Ghost, this was made when they were trying for a more Doom metal tone
been a fan a long time. year zero was the song which got me hooked 😁
Nice mentioning the 80's vibe. You will find that was your comment striking at the core of Ghost, ofc with even older influences.
70-80's: Rock is a creation of Satan!
2020: WTF? Satanic Rock?
Oh you've opened a bottomless chest with Ghost.
They're so many genres, there's so many stories. Ghost imho are just fun. So much different, fun music.
Square Hammer, Rats, Circe, Pinnacle To The Pit, Marry On A Cross, He Is, Faith. I can go on but I'll stop there
they have several different sounds! and no one can really agree what genre they are lol. for newer songs by them, check out “cirice”, “square hammer”, or “spillways”. for older ones, listen to “ritual” or “elizabeth”.
literally my fav song by them ♥

F yeah:) My Halloween band for a couple of years for sure lol. But you gotta do Behemoth or it won't count ;)

Ghost good… Lauren good…. I’m here
:)
Fun fact! - Dave Grohl produced one of their albums and collaborated with them. Foo Fighters then did a Bee-Gee's/disco tribute band called the Dee-Gees and released an album called "Hail Satin".
The song ‘Spillways’!! It’s a perfect mix of everything that Ghost is!
Well I picked Cirice from Ghost
Which I thought fit Halloween
But eh we got this one 😅
Best Halloween song video, "Dance Macabre"! 😁
I don't think they are talking about sheets wink. I recommend a song called He is by Ghost
It's funny because the first time I heard "Year Zero" it wasn't much to my liking... But today it's one of my favorite Ghost songs.
Don't mind me mate but that black eyeshadow fits u very well mate 😊
Musical style and influences
Ghost's music has been categorized in many genres, critics have classified them as hard rock, heavy metal, doom metal, pop rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, occult rock, and arena rock.
Ghost best band of this decade, simple.
Agreed! Personally, I'd say Ghost, Avatar, and Jinjer are the three best bands of the past decade. All equally.
Square Hammer is definitely a must listen!
I call their first three records ‘acid rock’, like the bands of whom they remind me: Blue Öyster Cult, etc.
ppl would save a ton of confusion by just starting their Ghost intro from the 1st album Opus Eponymous. They started as an occult rock act, homaging the esthetics of and riffage of Mercyful Fate, but adding a volvo full of Abba in the mix.
recommendations:

I would say that they're a modern classic rock band with a metal aesthetic and a very cool horror-themed story from album to album. Are most of their lyrics Satanic? They aren't really a metal band, but lots of metalheads like them, but that also means that lots of metalheads hate them just for that reason lol
The band and its leader is Swedish but when playing papa he speaks in exaggerated Italian accent especially papa II here
You guys, why has she not listened to Pisces by Jinjer yet??? Totally missing out.
Because I heard it a long time ago. Like everyone else. :)
@@MusicCatsandCoffee oh, I looked through your entire video list and didn't see a reaction video. I would have liked to see that.
I'm a huge black metal fan. .. and Ghost might be my favorite band. My friends dog me but I don't care. Love them.
I had to relearn everything I thought I knew about Metal since I did not know it is a genre from the 60s.. This is Heavy Metal, for sure, even if it isn't very metal by todays standards
Ghost looks like they would sound like Slayer, but they sound like a cross between the Blue Oyster Cult and Barry Manilow.
You're so cute, Lauren. ❤️🤗 Hahahahaha
Do Dance Macabre. You’re bound to love it!
Oh, you definitely have to listen to "He Is" by Ghost , it's fantastic
SPILLWAYS
SQUARE HAMMER
PLEASE (love your chanel btw)
Hunters moon and cirice are good too
Awesome video!
Watcher In the Sky. Dance Macabre. Cirice. Square Hammer. Rats. Kaisarion. Spillways. Mummy Dust.
I love Ghost :D
They are very cool
I think the 'french Indie' thing might be a production quirk, I think I can see some similarities with stuff by a band called Stereolab
I'm pretty sure you have all your videos ready for Halloween, but if you have an opening I would suggest "Good Mourning/Black Friday" by Megadeth
I just wanted to say I really like your videos and Could you possibly react to lorna shore of the abyss
Abba-Metal :) indie rock with a sprinkling of black metal cheese is how I would descripe them :P
Haven't heard that much from them, but my favorites are Cirice and Square hammer.
I think the best ghost song for a beginner would be Dance macabre.
You must hear Rats, Faith, Mummydust, and Mary on the Cross
Thanks for an awesome upload. ❤️
Do more Ghost. This was great!
Word Up - we live in a post genre world.
the reason they were called ghost b.c. was because the early stage of the band, there was a more popular band called ghost, so they had to make their name ghost b.c.
They are amazing live.
Do more Ghost. That was fun.
Listen to Scar The Martyr
They have only one album and the project is done since Joey died and everything!
Their true genre is Doom Metal. From the first album to the most recent. All the elements can all be linked to doom metal.
