There are different opinions about the message of the song lyrics, especially since Till Lindemann works a lot with metaphors.
The video was created shortly after the band avoided the breakup. Some scenes at the beginning show how the band members look suspiciously at Till. In the end, they realize that they can only make it to the top together.

this song was made after the Mutter Album when they almost broke up. Rammstein is like a democracy every member is heard and all must agree before anything gets passed..when they began having problems they decided to go to counseling both as individuals and as a group..in an interview Richard said that Rammstein is like a marriage but without the sex..Ohne dich shows unity in the band and Richard said the most important thing is to stick together, everything else is irrelevant.

Great. Check out the piano version (!) of "Mein Herz brennt" - it is also an emotional song. People come to Rammstein for the riffs, pyros and show but they stay because of their awesome ballads & mid-tempo songs (Nebel, Mutter, Frühling in Paris etc )

These guys are dedicated to the group and to each other.. songs like Ohne Dich and Haifisch explain how they all stick together..nothing gets passed unless all 6 agree...if someone is having problems they will postpone whatever they are doing to help that person..these 6 men have known each other in one way or another since before Rammstein was formed in 1994. The same 6 have been together since Rammstein was formed in 1994 ..they have never had a replacement or change in lineup.

The channel "educatedmarine" has great subtitled versions of many videos.. (he even did many of them in an artistic way, kinda emphasising the meaning of each song) with Rammstein you really need to have the english translations.. Till is also a published poet..

Even as a German the lyrics leave u with a lot of questions, at least after the first time hearing. They are really poetic and metaphoric most of the time. Their artistic level goes way beyond their sound, so happy they are still going strong!

It's Ramstein. You can never find out what he really meant. It's always difficult, especially with the older ballads. My mother tongue is German and I wouldn't bet what Till really means. This is Ramstein. loud, it's burning everywhere, but their lyrics are beyond this world

'The band was accompanied by an experienced climbing team who taught them how to correctly climb the wall.
The video was shot at +20 degrees. The snow was artificial, and the snow storm was created with the help of machines.
Emanuel Fialik's assistant expressed his concerns about whether any of the band members would get hurt while shooting a video in the middle of the tour.
Heitmann claimed that no one would have been able to stop Till from playing the falling scene.[1]
The original idea was that Flake would have to carry Till together with Schneider at 3,400 m above sea level, which was physically impossible for him.
According to Joern Heitmann, this is the most emotionally engaging video he has ever made with the band.
For the video, the band members grew beards, because in the mountains there is no time to shave. Flake was the only one to have an artificial one.
During the making of, Till can be seen wearing a shirt which makes fun of Flake and his beard.'

This song is not my personal favourite, even though it is touching and deep. I don't say that I don't like it, just that I like it less than some other ones. But I am really happy you liked it. I think it was a good strategy for you, to check softer side of the band first. Now, I will not recommend anything, apart from what I already did in your "Zeit" rection video, I will let others do that, because I feel that my taste differs a bit from majority of Rammstein fans. Dig deep. You will find out that Till's father was a famous poet and it obviously transfered to the son. Everything with Rammstein is awsome.
I discovered them 25 years ago. At that time their wild industrial inspired music suited me. Now Im closing up on 60 years old and Rammstein, as a good wine, also matured and now brings me more depth. It suits me where I am in life now, but at the same time I often return to their early music. Rammstein will remain with me to the end of days and Zeit will be played at my funeral.

We all know that feeling: after your partner left you (or died) you fall in a state of sadness; nothing seems to make sense or joy any more. Ths video uses the hill climb as an analogy. Even with the support of his friends, Till finally loses his will to live :-( very sad, very beautiful

We never give a shit about the people who think we need to get a record out every two years and that's one of the reasons why we're still together with the same lineup. We take care of each other, and if somebody needs to take the time off or do something else, we listen."

If you want to listen to more somewhat soft and chill songs from them I'd recommend "Diamant" (Diamond), "Stirb nicht vor mir" (Don't die before I do) and "Seemann" (Seaman). Maybe also "Haifisch" (Shark), "Armee der Tristen" (Army of the dreary) and "Adieu" which are a bit harder but still quite soft. Well honestly… I would recommend to listen to pretty much everything from them. :) A lot of the songs (probably most of them) are also available with English subtitles on some UA-cam channels.

Thanks again for a Rammstein reaction. We realy loved to see it. The band works a lot with metaphors and without understanding german it can be difficult to follow. And beside often they play with a lot of double-meanings. For example "Du hast" "you have" or "you hate" or both at the same time depending on the view. And a lot of the videos take storys from other videos and give them a new meaning. If you ever expected to see "Haifisch" you have to look "Sonne; Du Hast; Ohne Dich; Amerika; Keine Lust" first. But if you are historical interested take time to look "Deutschland" for me the best video i have ever seen.

Hello. Nice reaction. Love the song. The meaning of the song can be perceived in a few ways. The lyrics can be about friendship or a relationship fallen apart. A die hard fan asked Till, if the lyrics are about drug addiction respectively about drug withdrawal and Till responded yes, they are.
They almost never comment the meaning of their songs, which imo
is one of the beauties of Rammstein. They leave room to think. And as you see here in the comments, people talk to each other about it. With love from Germany 😎 🤘

As for me “Du” (You) and “Ich” (I) in this song can be reduced to pure philosophical categories. Something like - without “you” there is no “I”. Thus “I” obtains its definition and boundaries only in interaction with another person, that's why there is the emphasis on the First person and the Second person in this song. I and you. Who exactly is this "you" here - lover, friend, relative, partner or else somebody - is less important. An “I” is only possible, when we know a true “you”.
Many thanks for your job! Keep going! I wish you much of fun!

This video is a homage to a German movie called Kirschblüten - Hamani.
At the beginning the singer is wearing the cloths of his dead wife. Maybe she wanted to reach the top of the mountain but died before. So he is doing it for her in her cloths.
In the other movie the Bavarian husband got her cloths to the Japanese mountain his dead wife always wanted to visit. Here is the heartbreaking end scene of the movie where his dead wife suddenly appears again in his mind: ua-cam.com/video/ef0C8_iK6bA/v-deo.html

The song ist about the relationship between the band members of Rammstein and also can be seen as expressing mourning over the loss of a loved person. Rammstein wanted to break up one or the other time and that is why they had even therapy sessions. But they always decided to stay together. For Heitmann (film direktor of this video) , the emotional message in the video is very important; Ohne dich shows unity in the band. Richard said that the most important thing is to stick together, everything else is irrelevant. Therefore Rammstein is one of the few Bands that have managed to play in the same line up and with the same members for almost 30 years since they were founded.
The funny thing is that Flake (Keyboarder) still denies that he is a member of Rammstein, because he actually never wanted to be part of Rammstein from the start because the music was too "simple" for him. Till and Richard always wanted to start solo careers. In addition, the Rammstein members constantly argued about every song, every video and every live show, how it could be done better. It actually almost came to a break up with the "Mother" video. Till shot the video alone without really involving the other band members. Rammstein not only had one group therapy with a psychologist over the years, but nevertheless they could never be without each other
There were 5 or 6 ideas for this video. Some of the band members wanted to make a video at sea, others wanted to make it in the mountains. Richard wanted to make a video based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl" because it was the only fairy tale that made him cry, but the idea was rejected.. According to Joern Heitmann (film director), this is the most emotionally engaging video he has ever made with the band.
For the video, the band members grew beards, because in the mountains there is no time to shave. Flake was the only one to have an artificial one. During the making of, Till can be seen wearing a shirt which makes fun of Flake and his beard. The climbing scene was shot on one of the climbing walls next to a parking lot, and the band could go as high as they wanted to. The band was accompanied by an experienced climbing team who taught them how to correctly climb the wall.
The video was shot at +20 degrees. The snow was artificial, and the snow storm was created with the help of machines. Emanuel Fialik's assistant expressed his concerns about whether any of the band members would get hurt while shooting a video in the middle of the tour. Heitmann claimed that no one would have been able to stop Till from playing the falling scene.
The original idea was that Flake would have to carry Till together with Schneider at 3,400 m above sea level, which was physically impossible for him. Richard admits that everyone always fights for their own scene when shooting videos and everyone wants to be able to play a part, so it's hard to work with them on the set.

Somestimes from the main character´s view and it comes very hard. If you have the opportunity to switch on the subs, do it. I think this song is about "comradeship"
There is a German term for a group of mountaineers, "Bergkameraden".
On the mountain or in difficult situations like in war, no comrade leaves the other in the lurch.
    Wikipedia-
"Comradeship refers to an interpersonal relationship without sexual claims in the sense of solidarity within a group, formerly predominantly among males, today in general. The term originally comes from the military and is also used in political terms."

I am sorry to hear, that you had problems, but it also looks like, you could not grew on it and yes, I also lost a child. So I would say, it is 1:1 here and we should let it be, because that you are angry now shows me, you are not over at all about some things. It is hard, but certain things you have to let behind and move on. Otherwise you will end up as a very bitter person, if you are not already like that. One of my aunts turned in such a person. She also lost a child, but instead of celebrating, that she got a new one, she got very sour and angry. You have no idea idea, what I had to deal with already, but it would get too long and I am more a person who moves on instead of "asking for attention" with any costs. Most people have no idea about my past, except when they read some of my scrips, than they ask for the inspiration and I tell them from where they are. Because of it, some people called me "Austrian Gladiator" (The movie just came out), Schwarzenegger's sister or "the machine" (I do not like the last one that much) and I still do not feel like it, because in my opinion, new people I meet, would have another level of "respect" when I would be all this. So I still come across people who are only want to use and abuse me. the outcome is, that I am staying for myself now with my animals from the shelter and from the street. Greetings and Love from Germany again. Judging a book by it's cover , was a thing and will be always a thing. We all did it once, at least, even it wasn't on purpose. But if you afterwards read the inside of the book and learn from it..it's ok..cause thats the way. I'm a Iron Maiden Fan since 1985. And every non-metalhead was complaining 'awe, Maiden, they are 'Satanic', they worship the devil. Evil, dangerous music.". What a bullshit...

I want to tell that Rammstein have many poetic lyrics, even in the more hard tracks. But they also have a darker side and they always said what they mean, no mater if people think it is correct or not. They made songs on tabu themes and sometimes they do them just for the fun of making music . And everybody has to interpret the meaning for them self. There is not "one" meaning.
"without you" can mean everybody or anything, even a member of the band. They are a band for so long time now and never changed the setup. And as they said one : If one of us want to leave the band, we all will end Rammstein.
I can recommend "Angst" to you. The song is about how mass media and politics driving people into fears to make them more controllable and make them hysteric.

The song is wonderfull and some people even play it at their wedding. However, I have problems with the lyrics when he goes into the dense forest, where he has seen her for the last time. Why did he see her there for the last time? Didn't she go back with him? Why did they meet in the deepest forest where the trees are so dark? Why is he alone even when she is with him? Is she still alive? Questions over questions.

“SIE” in German is not only “SHE”, but also “THEY”, so the verse of this song “wo ich SIE zuletzt gesehen” doesn’t necessarily mean “where I last saw HER”. It can be translated “where I last saw THEM” and that would be not only grammatically correct, but also in accord with the meaning of the entire song. And with this video as well. This song for sure is not a love song and is played even more often at funerals than at weddings.

@@JakobFischer60 "Them" as just "others", I guess. Or where I last saw the others. It makes a lot more sense, than certain "her", because there is no a single word in the entire song mentioning love in sentimental or so called romantic way. "Without you" here has more enlarged sense something like "without the others I can’t be I".
P.S. Flake in his book "Heute hat die Welt Geburtstag" had written, that this one is the most demanded Rammstein song for funerals, as well, that all 6 "Rammstein" musicians mean to each other more and have been together for longer time of their lives than with any of their partners or even their parents. That leads to the conclusion, that there is no way, that this song is about some unknow "her". That would be just too banal for Rammstein.

@@JakobFischer60 Not at all. Just I have written in my other comment - “Du” (You) and “Ich” (I) in this song can be reduced to pure philosophical categories.
You don't interact with undefined OTHERS in general in Third person. You interact with each other person in Second person, by saying "du" (you).

If you can't find a version with good quality subtitles, look up a translation of the lyrics before. It's a critical journey through German(ic) history with a female actress impersonating Germania (the figure of Germany) through time.
Or maybe do "Angst" which is a social commentary. Or "Zick Zack" which is about cosmetic surgery and our obsession with "defeating time" - which is a different approach to the whole time topic.
