    Lovely to get close to a Red Grouse, filmed a Kestrel from the car yesterday on Salisbury Plain. I must investigate the door mounting video set up ! Great video Mike 👍😍

    I really enjoy your postings. I am watching from the Canadian Prairies and I also have the same Sony gear and completely agree with your assessment on the quality of the autofocus but I also love my Olympus gear and I shall not part with it. I live near one of the major lakes in Southern Alberta that is on one of the key routes for migratory birds in North America and supports breeding populations of White Pelicans, White-faced Ibis. Eared And Western Grebes, Franklin Gulls and Common Terns. The shallow shores attract large numbers of shore birds and the extensive reed beds provide shelter and nesting materials for all. It is a fabulous hobby and I love to watch for many hours to learn how all these birds manage. I hope you will talk more about your video settings as I don’t do any of that yet but would like to learn.

    Lovely film. We have Kittiwakes nesting here in Swansea on Mumbles Pier, and they are very easy to film and photograph.

    Good video Mike. Like you, I hope Olympus catch up with the autofocus on the EM1X mkII when it comes out.

    Great footage! What do you use to record sound? Their calls sound so crisp and clean that it is incredible.

      I have a Rode rifle mic, but often dub the sound on afterwards.

    You mentioned that you like to shoot with the bird small in the frame and then crop. Can you please explain more about that? As opposed to having the bird fill the frame? Thanks!

    • @MikeLaneFRPS
      @MikeLaneFRPS  3 роки тому

      The Sony A1 files are huge so it gives opportunity to crop the files aggressively and still end up with an image larger than most camera produce. it is easier to photograph a flying bird smaller in the frame. If a static bird suddenly does a wing stretch it is easy to clip its wings, but not if you are shooting smaller in the frame.
