Another corker Dan. Really enjoy the way you present these videos for people of all levels of skill and experience. Clear, concise and always interesting throughout. Congrats mate on another beaut.
Thanks very much I really appreciate. I definitely agree that the tide is a massive consideration and can imagine there have been a few that have come unstuck on the Brigg because of it. All the best 👍🏻
Brilliant again Dan, definitely my ideal scenario in terms of wildlife photography mate and the hike alone was well worth a coffee on me mate ☕️ enjoy mate, see you out there sometime somewhere!!!
Thanks very much Paul your comment and the coffees are very much appreciated. I often think that the shot that has required the biggest efforts are often the ones that hold the best memories. Hope to bump into you soon mate 👍🏻
Another lovely video Dan 🙂 I have visited RSPB Bempton Cliffs many times over the years but I have never been to Filey Brigg. It is now on the “to visit” list thanks to your video .... although it seems like I may have to improve my fitness levels first 😀 When did you visit Filey Brigg? The reason I ask is that down here in Essex, we only know Purple Sandpiper as a scarce winter visitor. I agree with you …. I love Fulmars, especially when they glide along the edge of a cliff or alongside a ferry and are clearly having a close look at you looking at them 🙂 I was at BirdFair over the weekend and several people mentioned that you were around. Unfortunately, I couldn’t spot you to say “hello” and have a chat. Oh well, there’s always next year unless I have a chance meeting with you (and Pops) somewhere in the UK before then 🙂
I'm sorry that we missed you at the Global Fair, we will definitely be there next year and will keep a lookout for you. I first visited Filey Brigg about 2 years ago and every time I have been on the Brigg I have managed to spot Purple Sandpiper so I'm fairly certain that they are not just migrants as this was shot in the summer months and I have seen them in late Autumn. I'm glad that you share the love of Fulmar's, I think they are just incredible and very photogenic. All the very best Richard 👍🏻
Thanks very much mate, I definitely am intending on spending some more time photographing and learning about them. It's certainly a very rewarding type of photography. All the best 👍🏻
I've spent a wonderful, wonderful Sunday evening watching your video over a glass of red. The shots of the wee shorebirds were great, especially in their breeding plummage. I use a similar shooting method I call wet arse photography. Often the birds seem to come towards you out of curiosity. Keep it up Dan!
I love the term wet arse photography it certainly sums it up and has made me giggle. Thanks for your feedback and support Scott, I really do appreciate it 👍🏻
Another great video Dan and great to see a young English entrepreneur making stuff in the UK and good on you Dan for giving him the opportunity to promote and go onto better things. Graham
Excellent video Dan, great wader shots.Think my limit these days there are views from the top, also don't think I would be able to get up from your prone position before the tide came in 🤣 . Filey Dams reserve worth a visit too if in the area.
Those ruddy turnstone though - stunning lil birds! Amazing video Dan!. I know it's a bit of a trek for you, but if you're ever Hampshire/Wiltshire way, take a look at The Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover. They have a great array of different birds of prey that I think you'd enjoy photographing during the flying displays/in the aviaries - I may even see you there if you come on a Sunday....!
Thanks very much Benjamin I really appreciate it. I'm always on the look out for new locations and ideas for videos so may just look into the Hawk Conservancy Trust. Hampshire/Wiltshire is certainly a place I would like to explore in the future. All the best 👍🏻
Hi Dan, once again a great vid. Met a guy from Switzerland on a visit to Bempton a few weeks back and he to enthused about Filey Brigg. I'd never heard of it so it was a bit of a surprise when you visited. Nice seeing you Simon and Robert yesterday at the Tragopan stall (BirdFair Rutland). I mentioned Bradgate Deer Park, Leics. Has a potential venue to visit. A great place during the rut. Regards, Ted. Nottingham.
It was a pleasure meeting you too Ted and thanks for suggesting Bradgate Deer Park, it is certainly a venue that I will look into, in preparation for the Rut in October. I'm glad I'm not the only one who enthuses about Filey Brigg, it certainly is a hidden gem! All the best 👍🏻
what a lovely video, yet again mate! I hadn't even heard of Filey Brigg before, so I'll definitely be visiting next time I go up to Bempton Cliffs. Josh also sent me a ground pod to test out, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go myself (although I need to find some good subjects first!). It's such a good idea & a huge gap in the market. It's rare that he's someone that didn't ask for anything in return, simply feedback - so it's great to see you give some credit & promotion off your own back!
You said it Dan, it's all about being in the moment with your subject also a great plus if you find yourself in such a great location. Personally found this a more interesting video than the many shot from Bempton. Very impressed with how your waders photos turned out. Look forward to more of your work. 👍
Thanks very much Glenn, I appreciate that. It's always a gamble coming away from an area visited by the masses to a lesser known location so I'm really pleased that you preferred this video. All the best 👍🏻
Going around these parts very soon, flamborough,Filey Brigg, Scarborough etc going to look for the puffins ,not sure if too late in season?my wife and I have always once a year since kids were little gone and stayed around this beautiful area of England, always go to Filey Brigg , flamborough head and north bay, just love it,nice channel of yours this 👍
Thanks very much Andy, I am really pleased that you are enjoying the channel mate. I think that you are probably a little late in the season for the Puffins but you might be lucky. All the best 👍🏻
Why haven't I seen this before and Filey Brigg ???? I live very near the Brigg and spend a lot of time down there... but I always go the easy way. Great vlog well done.
Thanks very much, you are the second person to comment about an easy route and it's certainly something that I will be exploiting on my next trip to the Brigg so thanks for that. All the best 👍🏻
Good stuff Dan. I was confused by the Sanderling that you put up. Sure it is not a Little Stint? Those are tiny, much smaller than the plovers but size was difficult to estimate on the video. Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks very much David, you could well be right on the Little Stint identification, shore bird are not my strong point and I was relying on my comparison with pictures in a bird book. All the best 👍🏻
I used to go photograph Purple Sandpipers at the Brigg 40 years ago so this is a great reminder to go again as I usually end up at Bempton. Lovely shots as usual Dan
Thanks very much Richard, it's great to read that the venue has been supporting populations of Purple Sandpiper for last 40 years. I would be interested to know how it fairs from when you last went? All the best 👍🏻
I went to the Brigg the day before I went to Bempton in May. Lots of birds on the rocks and also a good variety along the cliff top walking north. A hidden gem with the world’s biggest car park. Great video as always Dan.
Amazing video Dan. keep up your hard work. I have just subscribed to your channel and looking forward to see how you get some of these awesome pictures we keep seeing.
You can of course use the access road from the cliff top car park down to the sailing club to reach the sands then walk across the flat sand, when the tide is not high of course but easier than that climb.
Thanks very much David, you are not the first to impart this information and it’s something I will definitely be doing next time I visit. Anything to avoid that climb 😂 Cheers and all the best 👍🏻
Just had a chat with your Pops in my carpark in Glenfinnan, he was doing a recce for tomorrows boat trip. Hes in for a treat, its a great loch and almost guaranteed to see White tailed eagles.
Good evening, I spoke to Pops on the phone earlier and he mentioned you in the chat. I'm hoping that Pops has an experience similar to the one I did last summer on Loch Shell it was epic and Aly and Peter certainly looked after me. All the very best 👍🏻
Good spot Dan, think it will always be a quiet place because of the walk in ! A mate has a caravan nearby, I'll have a look next time. Last time went to Bempton, S E Owl flew in front of the car when leaving. Built a groundpod from an old frying pan, used a monopod head mount to attach to gimbal. Think John's design might benefit from having a large s/s washer between the pod and gimbal for extra strength & stability. ( instead of base of gimbal onto plastic ). All best.
Thanks very much for your feedback, I will certainly pass this on as it really does make sense. I think that the fact that it is a quiet place is half it's charm and definitely a reason why I will be returning in the future. Bempton is such a good reserve for encounters like that. All the best 👍🏻
Cracking foties Dan. Been there many a time on holiday with my kids when they were young. I think you need to do a little bit of swotting up on your bird I'd. I take you have a good bird Id book such as Collins Bird guide at home. Hope to see pops in a video soon❤❤
Looks great but steep narrow paths are not for me unfortunately! Might go there and stay along the top though. Thanks for sharing the location and of course your lovely photographs and film. Very relaxing and well presented.
Hi Dan lovely place to be I was there 4 wèeks ago on holiday and back there in 6 weeks .One thing to mention if anyone goes there and its too much for them theres a nice little nature reserve in filey with 3 hides .Great filming as always not a photographer myself just a birder but find watching the wildlife Photographers more useful.
Thanks very much Dez. I read with interest about the nature reserve as it’s somewhere I’ve not been before and I’m always on the lookout for new ventures. All the best 👍🏻
Hi Dan loved the video we where at RSPB St Aidans when you where at Filey. Didn't see much though, must have picked the wrong day. Regarding your ground pod I made two, one for my mate out of two frying pans bought for a fiver each at Lidl, just take the handle off, drill a hole in the center add a bolt and away you go. You will not find one that cheap and it does everything yours does. It's small and light.
Thanks very much Malcolm, a few people have mentioned the frying pan up cycling method and I can imagine that it is a very good alternative. All the best 👍🏻
Awesome video as always, seeing your video’s give me the inspiration to go to new places, but I have to say I have been to Filey Brigg on a few occasions as I just live nearby in Bridlington, if you ever fancy taking photo’s of seals there is a place called ravenscar which is near to Robin Hood’s bay, it’s a great place to see the seals, thanks for the fabulous videos you make every week…
Thanks very much Marc, inspiring people to get out into nature with their camera was my inspiration for starting the channels it's great to hear that the videos are doing just that for yourself. Ravenscar sounds like a fantastic venue and somewhere I will look into in the future. All the best 👍🏻
Wow, I was puffed out just watching. Looks like a fantastic place, but alas, not one for me :( I am visiting Yorkshire in September, so I am really looking forward to perhaps visiting the area, but I certainly wont be climbing down. Thanks once again Dan for a great video, I learn something new every time. Regards Andy
Thanks very much Andy, I always appreciate reading your comments mate. I would take a trip there just for the shots from the top as it will be well worth it. All the best 👍🏻
I live in Bridlington, so quite near to Filey and went to the Brigg as a child. There were some cracking rock pools to explore if I remember correctly. I hadn’t even thought about going there with my camera as an adult. Thanks for showing us what’s there. By the way have you come across Tophill Low on your East Yorkshire travels? It’s well worth checking out.
Thank you very much for your comment and yes there were some excellent rock pools that were just begging to be explored. I haven't come across Tophill Low but will definitely be checking it out on my next Yorkshire adventure. All the best 👍🏻
Great stuff as always Dan, some lovely images & footage. As some others have said, ground pods aren’t a new conceit though they might be in terms of actually being manufactured for the purpose rather than a being an upcycled & modified frying pan. I don’t think my fitness levels at present would get me back up that incline at the present time; like you said it’s not for the feint hearted. Well done on the sightings, footage & images mate. Keep on keeping on mate! Best, Nick
Thanks very much Nick and I completely agree with you that ground pods are not a new idea but these are really a quality piece of kit and unlike up cycled frying pans are relatively lightweight despite being very sturdy. It certainly was a climb up onto the ridge mate, had my heart racing that's for sure. As always, take care and all the very best mate 👍🏻
I suppose compared to the up cycled ground pod it could be considered expensive. I have to say thought is a very well engineered piece of kit that does the job very well.
I 3D printed my own ground pod, but I had to make in six separate pieces due to my printer bed size. and bolt them together. Mine has a diameter of 380mm. Also think you have something on your sensor, or it is my eye floaters. I think I've seen it on your last two videos, in the top right.
Thanks very much Jonathan, I have cleaned the sensor but all the last videos were shot over the same weekend before I had noticed the issue. Hopefully it is sorted now. All the best 👍🏻
Looks like a real good find, however, at 65 its perhaps not for me. But, am going to Skipsea in September so will have a look at it and make a decision then.
@@danwillis_photography yeah, I looked at the area with google earth. From the beach looks easier, just need to be sure of tides height and time. I shall have a gander on my jollys.
Hi Dan loved your video as always. Not seen pops much hope he is ok. I noticed when you where down my neck of the woods Bristol, you didn’t visit Slimbridge nature reserve, if you and pops decide to visit let me know I would love to meet up with you or both of you
Thanks very much, Pops is doing great thanks for asking. He's currently up in Scotland enjoying a wildlife photography trip on his own. I will definitely check out Slimbridge on my next trip to Bristol, I do need to take Pops as it is not an area he has been to for photography before and will definitely let you know when we do. All the best 👍🏻
What a wonderful trip, Dan! Great shots and video. Thanks for letting me tag along. Is there a way to check to see if you have a spot on the sensor while in the field? I really don't know and I don't like getting home to find that on my images or video.
Thanks very much Jon, I wish I had known about the spot on the sensor before shooting this and several other videos as they all have been affected by it. One of the best methods that I find for looking for dust spots is to photograph a white wall and then zoom in on the image on the back of your camera and look for spots. Not the most technical and I'm sure there are more effective ways. All the best 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Please don't think that I am trying to be mean or sarcastic to you. If I come across that way, I truly apologize. I mean no harm.
Goundpod wow for how much as they say in Yorkshire. Go to Asda, Morrisons or any other supermarket and buy a frying pan the size you want cut the handle off and drill a hole in the center to take a 3/8" BSW bolt. Fit your Gimbal or tripod head on and away you go for about £10 I think Paul Miguel call it a frypod a very apt name
I have seen the video where Paul makes one of these and uses it in the field. I am certain that it is an absolutely effective piece of kit, I do however really like the ground pod, its design is light yet strong and very effective for sliding on the ground. Each to their own I guess
You could always wait until the tide drops & the path at the base of the cliff is exposed so you can walk along the beach & up to the car park from the sailing club 🙂
Hello Dan, Yes I started watching this video and said to my self what a super place to go under 2 hours away great. Then you said very steep and slippy, I am not to good of my feet now, and after they(Doctors) removed one of my lungs not to good at steep slopes. Any good place on top? I may well just pop over and have a look. Like the look of the plate/pod thing? Just spent the weekend at Rutland water at this year Bird fast, Lot of people to talk to and see. Nikon were there in force plus others and at £16 a day go place to go.
Thanks very much John, well worth a visit from the top as there's always fulmar and other birds flying about. I was actually at The Global Bird Fair all weekend so it's a shame that we missed each other. It was a fantastic show and I will certainly be returning there next year. All the best 👍🏻
So you get a new camper van and disappear to Yorkshire and leave your poor Dad to fend for himself in Scotland lol. Met him today at Bellymack Farm and had a good natter over a few hours. Russ.
😂😂😂 Poor Pops, he is living his best life up in Scotland. Thanks for taking the time to chat to Pops, I know he always really appreciates it. All the best 👍🏻

Nice one Dan, used to go to Filey for my holidays as a child, happy memories. Really important comment about watching out for the turn of the tide.

Regards
Andy
Thanks very much Andy, I always appreciate reading your comments mate. I would take a trip there just for the shots from the top as it will be well worth it.
All the best 👍🏻
i have used a groundpod for years, but mine is made from an old frying pan
The up cycled frying pan is something that a few people have mentioned and something I have seen Paul Miguel utilise.
Best,
Nick
Thanks very much Nick and I completely agree with you that ground pods are not a new idea but these are really a quality piece of kit and unlike up cycled frying pans are relatively lightweight despite being very sturdy.
It certainly was a climb up onto the ridge mate, had my heart racing that's for sure.
As always, take care and all the very best mate 👍🏻
ground pod a bit expensive for a bit of plastic
There are apparently easy routes to the headland at low tide from the beach. Would certainly be worth checking out mate 👍🏻
@@joncothranphotography9375 I didn’t think that at all Jon, no need for any apologies mate 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Cool! Just wanted to be sure...
I went in May, but couldn't get down to the rocks because I'd have needed a hoist to get back up again :)
That's a fantastic tip Richard and something I will definitely be doing next time 👍🏻
Hello Dan, Yes I started watching this video and said to my self what a super place to go under 2 hours away great.
I was also at Birdfare on Friday, with my son
Thanks very much John, well worth a visit from the top as there's always fulmar and other birds flying about.
I was actually at The Global Bird Fair all weekend so it's a shame that we missed each other. It was a fantastic show and I will certainly be returning there next year.
All the best 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Yes I am sure we will be going back there, Good to talk to Ricci, Tom Rachel and more. Even got a hide from Trygopan...
It's action Dan the photoman. 🧗♂️📷.
Hahaha, great caption I love it 😂
Gorgeous video Dan and what a cracking place 👌🏻
Thanks very much Adam, I really appreciate it mate.

Another brilliant video Dan.
Thanks very much Sheila, always appreciated 😊
