    I'm not sponsored by, or affiliated with 7mesh in any way but their kit tends to be my favourite most of the time. I love the Glidepath shorts and they fit me really well - though I'm a bit heavier than you, and the innovations they pioneered can be seen on many other brands now (angle of the zippered pocket and the way the zipper is on the leading edge so your phone/bar/whatever sits below it while pedaling, locking waist adjusters, etc.) I actually haven't tried the new version that's made from the same lighter material as the Glidepath pants and has a different waist adjustment system but believe it would be really good. The Revo (waterproof) shorts get used in heavy rotation here on the 'Shore Fall-Spring, as does my Skypilot jacket. I tend to wear merino shirts for riding (long or short sleeved) and have a healthy collection of other brands (Icebreaker, Mons Royale, Point6) so I haven't tried any of the 7mesh merino. I also haven't tried their bibs as I don't road ride much anymore and my favourite chamois for mountain biking is the one made by BN3TH.

      Thanks for the feedback Khai! I've never heard of that BN3TH brand, I might have to try those.
      I've really enjoyed some Exoficcio (seriously comfy!), Patagonia, or Saxx tech briefs for riding. Anything under 2 hours and those are all amazing. Merino hasn't been my favorite after some bad experiences from a few other brands over the years, as they would get super soaked and heavy in the rain, but the tech wool in the Gryphon has been AWESOME! Dries faster than merino, too.

      @@JeffKendallWeed BN3TH (formerly My Package - they rebranded a few years back) is the only underwear I'll wear nowadays. They're similar in intent to Saxx with the "separation technology". I can't say I've tried Saxx or the other modern underwear brands that have a similar design intent but I do LOVE my BN3TH (again, no affiliation). The benefit of a nice chamois that doesn't smash your junk like a traditional bike short is an absolute game changer. They also have a 30-day money back guarantee if you don't like them, so it's a risk free trial. Most of the time I don't bother with the chamois and just wear "regular" BN3TH underwear - but for long rides or if I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time sitting I'll pull the BN3TH "North Shore Chamois" and be super comfy. I'll have to check out the 7mesh Gryphon - I hadn't really looked at it before. :)

    Just a comment on sizing.
    I am 5´11" and 190lbs, running Large Glidepath pant, but after a few tries I am comfortably running a Medium Glidepath shorts. I would say you tried the wrong size.
    Sizing on those shorts are a bit off.
    Glidepath shorts came before the pant, but I guess they haven restyled their sizing accordingly. Luckliy I didnt go for Medium pant when ordering... :-)
    For me, just living those shorts. Best phone/stash pocket in the business, cant feel keys or phone or snack when in the thigh pockets. Light and really comfortable. Only negative, the waist seems to stretch a bit when "worn" in during a ride, but the superb fasteners fix that in a jiffy.
    Only weirder sizing stuff I have come across is Nezium padded short, where the recommendation for my size was a Small(!!), I went with Medium which is a good fit too... but jeeeeez, small?

    I've made a few orders through Jenson via your link, this year. Thanks for the great content!

      Thanks for watching- and supporting! I'd say a few of these items are worth it, namely, the Gryphon and Sight, as well as the Glidepath pant. That stuff has all been LEGIT! I don't ride in a chamois all the time, so $200 is a lot for something I only use maybe once a week at most. The shorts aren't quite my jam- some simpler shorts are usually totally fine.

    7:00 it would be better if it was on top of the thigh, like Poc does. I have several pairs of Poc Resistance strong. Actually the live up to the name atleast in the daddle/groin area, but most is thin and breathable material, sides has slippery half dots, but area between butt and back has nic ematerial that expands due to the way its woven, so no plumbers crack, and short sift securely. But I wore out the coil zippers on all of my shorts but I probably prematurely wore them out as I had a silly big case on my previous phone, I eventually found a smaller case, but was too late, I had to get a new phone anyway, but now I don't but an fhave a better phone with better shape, so probably won't wear pockets as much, but coil zippers are fragile anyway. But zippers can be replaces anyway, just need to know how to sew, and have right size zipper. I prever the zippers that are plastic or metal blocks as they last super long. But are not flexy and are reaver. But my Endura jacket has a plastic block zipper. I liked the position, it was perfect for a phone, but they need new zippers so I want to upgrade it with new zippers. I Tore some of the pockets, but been patched up. But the groin/saddle area is robust, that will last for a long time. Their vod2.0 DH pads give great protectopn agians brutal crashes, but are super searty, warm, I get rashes, so I don't use them anymore, atleast not in the summer.
    But their gloves don't live up to the name, the palm material tears, the venting holes probably make it wear faster, it stretches, the glued on velcro seperate from the rubber band. But fit is good, I used medium, now I use Leatt in Small.

    I rock the SWAT bibs a lot and stuff them full of things. Most of the time I can get away with a 2-3 hour ride with a bottle on the bike, bottle in the center bib pocket, credit card and keys in the zipper pocket, and food in the last two pockets. Definitely a look though, with the hunchback. And the reach to get the bottle out doesn’t agree with a lot of people’s shoulders.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like you enjoy the concept? I've been under the attitude of either travel super light, just a bottle on the bike and maybe a multi tool in the pocket, and phone/keys/wallet in pockets, and that's it. Seems easier than stuffing into the bibs, but I dunno... Maybe it's time to try the swat concept! For rides over 3 hours or that involve filming in any capacity, I'm then hauling the full 15 lb pack.

    • @forestkan6653
      @forestkan6653 2 роки тому

      @@JeffKendallWeed I do enjoy the concept but it’s funny because it’s not much different than a backpack due to the shoulder straps etc. strangely one of the worst things about bibs is getting them off at the end of a ride - I usually will ride no chamois just so I don’t have to get naked in the parking lot trying to get out of soggy clothes.
      In your situation of producing these extremely well done videos, I don’t think you’re going to get away from a pack with all the gear unfortunately. Imagine a DSLR stuffed into bibs! 😂😂😂

    I’m that ragamuffin squid out on the trail typically wearing jorts and a T-shirt. BITD I was watching one of your videos when you first started endorsing kitsbow so out of curiosity I decided to venture online to try see about maybe picking up some riding apparel, and boy oh boy, the sticker shock was REAL!! I mean seriously!!! $269 for a pair of shorts with no pockets and a jersey for $130???
    That’s ridiculous.... absolutely ridiculous.
    Hopefully 7mesh is more affordable because it looks nice.
    I come from a BMX background also and I Love MTB.... heck, I love ALL bikes in general, but I just cannot comprehend why virtually everything in the MTB hobby is so over priced. 🤷‍♂️
    It would be cool if you got to work with a company that produced and sold affordable outdoor enthusiasts and riding gear. Id love to support the brands that support you. I’m just not able too from a financial standpoint. $130 jersey is a tough pill to swallow but even if I had a bottomless bank account, I still don’t think I could ever bring myself to spend that amount of money on clothing but that’s just me 🤷‍♂️ I’m a cheap ass 😂

    • @tommycooperfish
      @tommycooperfish 2 роки тому

      I'm a cheap ass who sews the holes in my gloves and just wear jeans and a T shirt too.
      Don't think it has any impact on my actual riding skill haha and I'd rather spend the little moolah I have on replacement tires/hub pawls/spokes/grips/pedal pins/lube/slickoleum etc... That makes way more difference anyway.
      The very "best you can afford" helmet is the one to spend on if only one good thing as it can (has for me 100%) literally save your life, then decent shoes as the grip level can do the same. Can find some great deals online though if you buy off season/on sale for example I got areal good Endura waterproof for 92% off a few years ago, still wear that bad boy every time it gets abysmal and every now and again re waterproof it but I have noticed WAY less sales after covid which sucks.
      I agree this sport can (recently in the last decade or so and even more again the last 2 years) seem like it's priced to keep the riff-raff out but I usually find the riff-raff are the ones who send it best so...

    I know this goes against this video, but I get sick and tired of spending too much money on clothing gear.
    I did an Amazon search and found some brands that are European like Sweden, where their shorts were going for $30.
    The reviews were decent and decided to give them a try. I thought they were pretty good. My main criteria when buying shorts
    is deep zippered pockets mainly for my phone, etc. It's bizarre how even the big brands like Fox sometimes get it wrong and have short
    zippered pockets or just pockets without zippers which is a deal breaker for me. Anyway, I'm always looking for a great deal on clothing gear. I am curious about the pants and might splurge...LOL. I wouldn't hesitate spending more money on a product that has benefits so I'm not a complete cheap skate!
    I'd like to buy some new knee pads soon. I've used GForm for a long time then most recently bought IXS flow. I'd like to get one that integrates Shin protection too! I've had Fox and Dainese that accommodate the shin. But am wondering what else is out there. Those Endura look good!
    Jeff - do a vid on Knee Pads! ...Just do it!!...LOL.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  2 роки тому

      I prefer non-zippered hand pockets- specifically- for my phone. I often have to pull my phone out and check Trailforks (I try to ride as many new-to-me locations as possible) and that's one less hassle. My favorite pockets are zipper free but deep enough to prevent anything from bouncing out. The zippered rear pocket (like the 7Mesh Glidepath pant) is great for wallet and keys.
      I've got some more knee pads on order, but the shipment is now over 2 months late... I only have experience with Kali and Endura at this point.

      Oooof, I don't actually know. It's not cold enough here in Bellingham for me to use jackets all that much. Anyhow, the 7Mesh unit is Gore Tex and all, but way overkill unless temps are well below ~38° F, and makes me sweat buckets. As do most jackets. The PNW jacket is 1/3 the cost, and breathes a lot better. The cheapie Endura waterproof shell is so much smaller and lighter I can just toss it on for the descent home. If we had more exposure to wind, I'd probably use the jackets a lot more.

      Stephen- I run the padded body armor style shorts from Troy Lee for max protection (cooler days, bike parks, big jumps) and the slightly smaller body armor shorts from Endura for summer or lighter duty riding. Having broken my pelvis three times now (both illiac crests, and the inferior and super ramii), I wear a "protector" ~90% of the time that I'm bicycling.

      For low end MTB gear, from what 7Mesh claims, you'd be right. You can use generic, big box outdoor store tech clothing with decent success- as that's *supposedly* the same stuff as the cheaper MTB brands. The higher end brands that make fitted MTB gear, like 7Mesh, Pearl Izumi, Kitsbow, and Rapha, have a much higher standard of fit and finish. If you ride a lot, like 4 or more times a week, the higher end stuff makes more sense. Especially for cooler weather. Some folks love their $1500 hardtails, other folks love their $12k carbon enduro bike with carbon wheels and an electronic seatpost. Interestingly enough, I'd say the extra $300 between a generic kit and a high end one have a bigger return on investment than going carbon bars or XTR instead of XT, for instance.

Compared to high end outdoor brands, its still cheaper- and for a much smaller market, too.
