Fantasy authors have a lot to apply from this poem - the awe of a technology regressed society seeing the ruins of a great empire all around them

I remember watching your video on the Gods about a year ago, I waited to subscribe because it looked like the channel was given up on. Really glad to see you're back at making videos on our Anglo-saxon ancestors. Keep it up, can't wait to see the part two on the Gods and other beings.

It’s about bluddy time! You inspired me to make a video of Caedmon’s Hymn, then you f***ed off to China and disappeared off the cyber-map. You have been sorely missed by your dedicated fans (of whom I am one).

Glad you did an original version (along with your favourite translation). Can't say if the pronunciation is correct, but you recited it with excellent diction. Which does justice to the original.

Great reading. Can you offer one without the backing track? I found it detracted from my enjoyment of the spoken word, especially the excellent alliteration that conveys the vitality of the ancient verse.

Excellently declaimed! May I recommend "Geat and Maethild", a recent upload on the Northworthy Sagas and Stories channel here on UA-cam.

The g in the ge prefix is supposed to be soft thus y, and the c is either a k sound or ch, never like an s in cell like you said in reced as resed.
Also the sc is supposed to be sh.

Which OE pronunciation guide do you use? Is it more Northumbrian? It sounds a bit different to how I was taught, but I was taught in the Mercian dialect so that could explain it (I'm also not that great tbh). Also, some of my friends in the Heathen community are telling me you are alt-right/racist, is that true? They said you were hanging out with Survive the Jive online and you post pictures with the OK hand gesture that can mean white power. I hope they're just lying, I can't imagine you would do that - after all, we've all read the Havamal 😊

In all honesty, I think my pronunciation is a little off - but I generally try to go for a Mercian pronunciation.
I am surprised by that, in all honesty. I can unequivocally confirm that I am neither alt-right nor racist. I wrote my entire MA Thesis was on how this period of history, particularly it's symbolism has been appropriated by the far right and other nefarious ideologies. I've never met STJ, and as for the okay symbolism, I've never used it as a symbol for white power. For me, and where I grew up, it has always only ever been a symbol to mean "Okay". I refuse to stop doing shit I've always done just cause some nobheads want to use it as their own. I find the recent trend of ethnonationalism within heathen communities deeply concerning, and it no way aligns with my own personal beliefs.
The interesting thing about the Internet is that people make assumptions based on nothing more than hearsay and being ill informed. I was brought up in a multicultural, multiracial household. I have never expressed any political views on social media apart from my very working class, left wing views. It's a shame that your friends have heard or believe such things about me, but I welcome them to have a conversation with me, if they'd like.

@@thefyrdsman9590 Many thanks for the reply! I really appreciate it! Tbf, what I've learned from is mostly from books so it could be that my pronunciation is way off and yours is near-perfect!
I think it's really difficult these days when you're involved with heathen/dark ages topics to avoid those that want to twist history/iconography to their sick worldviews/politics. I mean, it's something people have had to compete with since the 1800s, unfortunately. Dr Jackson Crawford has some really good videos on these topics and how to avoid it - I'd really recommend his stuff if you've not come across it yet.
I think it's important, like you say, for us to keep using 'contentious' symbols to prove they're more than hate symbols. If you give up on using them, then that's all they can mean and there's little chance of ever taking them back.
The STJ-link I think was driven by the fact that he had posted some asinine comment about being black-pilled or something under the Deor video which was hearted, perhaps by accident (or maybe you just saw a 'big channel' had commented and didn't think too much of it - which is fair - I don't check out everyone that likes my tweets, haha). Also I was told you followed the Swedish alt-right activist Marcus Follin (The Golden One) on Instagram? I couldn't verify that since I don't use it myself. Somebody else said you once espoused Julius Evola by quoting him somewhere on IG. Again, I can't comment to that. I'm not sure why people would be circulating this, perhaps there are jealous people around? Who knows.
Thanks for clearing this up though, I'm always worried about following people into Germanic Culture (even though I am myself - so I can be sure not everyone is alt/far-right/racist) as it is often co-opted by neo-nazis and fascists, albeit they aren't often upfront about it (e.g. Survive the Jive - who is a known neo-nazi supporter and has spoken at events).
Maybe, if these rumours are around, it might be worth posting some kind of clarification video? I understand though if you'd rather not get too political though.
As an aside, I'd recommend you post your videos to relevant subreddits - that might help your channel to grow. Like r/heathenry or r/OldEnglish and so on.
Hope you have a great weekend!

We're playing Fortress Festival next July, and working on new material. Just a question of getting us all together to record, as we're so spread out across the country. For the most part, my energy has been going into a novel I'm writing!
