Exodus Trail Cameras must have been a he'll of a limb. that limb would be there when I got back if it was between spending time with Dan or staying home cuttin up a limb
Great video..I agree on some of his answer but disagree on others. I think it depends on the geographical area you hunt and the population of the deer and hunting pressure. I have hunted and ran trail cams in different cities and states and the deer have different reactions to the cameras. I disagree with mounting the trail cam to the tree your hunting. I have never had a problem with big bucks. However, I do agree not putting them by a bedding area and checking them every week.
Damn damn, Dan. Just open up your own school man. So much of what you say is dead nuts on. In every way. It's uncanny. I could write two pages of why I and so many other hunters, get comfortable hunting the same freaking spot, over and over. And we'll be successful, here and there. Yet we don't even realize, how much more is out there, nor how the big boys (bucks) truly act, perceive us, track us, realize we're there, than wonder why we never get a shot at them. Even though we pick them up on camera. Just amazing, listening to you and learning. Thanks man!
I was wondering about making cameras that were theft resistant. Taser equipped and as soon as the thief touches it he or she gets zapped. Or maybe just have a hardened housing that would take a ridiculous amount of effort to get into and a chain to attach it to the tree.
Dan Infalt is a great big buck hunter. That said, to the average guy that hunts and has a job or a business, a wife and school age children its all but a pipe dream unless you own your own land and a very large tract or in live a remote location with very low pressure and tons of public land. Dan spends more time and days in the woods than the guy I just described, you can compete with this guy when essentially this is ALL he does, his entire world revolves around this. Dan, is the prime example of the 10,000 hour rule, and again the overwhelming majority of hunters simply do not have the time or live in a similar location. Sure he can give you some good tips, but achieving what he has has a LARGE part to play with the TIME he spends and where he lives to begin with.
So, putting a cellular trail cam within 50 yards of my tree stand, 12 feet of the ground, in April, is a "no no"? Seems fine to me. I won't touch that cam again until next spring.
All great info. But for me, trail cams hurt more than helped. I can't afford multiple cellular models, so I go in, check my cams, run off the mature bucks. So since I don't hunt big racks, but rather older deer, I now just scout for large tracks like Larry Benoit taught. It's not as reliable as a picture, for sure, but I've been impressed by how often the big tracks correspond to sightings. It's not easy distinguishing between 1/8th of an inch, but it can be learned. Now I just let my trail cams sit for weeks or months at a time and look after season or very late in season.
Absolutely great advice Jake. Cameras can definitely hurt people. You should check out the Exodus content on long term trail camera strategies and how you can use the data the following year!
I feel like the camera companies need to make a camera that has a slimmer profile and mame them to look more like a dead branch that comes off a tree or at least a different shape because every hunter can pick out a square in the woods.
Great stuff, one question though... I just put up some cameras 2 Monday on a property, and it rained plenty Tuesday, will that help eliminate my scent and allow bucks to come back perhaps this Thursday or Friday? Thank you.
Great question! In the past we've told people rain showers would help wash away scent but after doing research on the topic we found it to be a very gray area. There have been several university studies that show the ability for an animal to smell scent molecules actually increase with moisture...But when moisture levels get to a point that ability to smell with be decreased. As I mentioned, there a lot of gray area and the question can't really be answered in a few sentences. However, we will be tackling this topic later on in the year after we put together some additional research and data on the topic
Unfortunately we are not in an area with signal to utilize cell cameras. We tried covert back 2 years ago and although we had 3 bars it still would not connect tso we gave up on them.
The Tinemen Nice. Maybe I’ll have to give these guys a try. I have Verizon as well. Our outfit is located in Southeastern Oklahoma and Verizon is the only service that works at all. Be sure and check us out on the season premier of Slammed September 14 th on sportsman channel. And thanks for the reply. I would love to find one that would work for us. I’d buy 10 immediately.
That is debatable. There have been several university studies done on scent molecules and how they react in different moisture levels. The data was quite surprising to us. We too used to tell folks to check cameras before a good heavy rain. We plan to cover this topic in much more detail backed by a collection of data later this year.
using the time stamp to judge distance to the bucks bed and direction of travel from that picture are huge pieces of the puzzle. Combine that with your scouting of known beds in the area and the buck practically loads itself into the back of the truck. haha
Cell cameras are too addicting! It started out with one then two then 500 next thing I knew I was taking the $$$ for my mortgage & spending it on camera contracts.. I'm going to the meetings now. (Hunt Cameras Anonymous) it's embarrassing I know but it happens! 🥴
@34:00 Dan reflected on how the stands he always kills at never have older, bigger bucks. I am being totally serious when I say that this is probably somewhat because he keeps killing 2 and 3 year old bucks there and so none of them live long enough to grow big racks. We have to think of all the "filters" at play. For instance, people often think big, old bucks had to learn to go live in a swamp. There's some truth to that. But also, if you randomly distributed male fawns throughout the landscape, then you'd find that they ones that happened to be born in a remote swamp would live longer and get larger, without necessarily having special attributes. This is just thinking in terms of "all else being equal" (basis of the scientific method). So, many variables are interacting.
I emailed dan about 2 months ago about ordering 4 sticks and he never answered my email. So I went with the new "Hawk Helium" sticks. I really wanted Dan's but I guess he hates money lol
thats probably because they havent been for sale for a while now and he gets thousands of emails a day about them still after he said time and time again a time frame that he's expecting them. He posts updates on the Hunting Beast and sends an email when they are available. Like he said in the video he practically has 3 jobs. Last time he sold out everything he had in hours. I suggest joining the hunting beast and subscribing to the emails to get updates.
Big bucks big bucks blah blah blah, wonder how many hunters he’s stepped on to find these bucks I think this guy and people like him are the problem! With hunters step on who ever and what ever just the be selfish
Man you guys are easy to please. Send me some trail cameras and I will produce more AWESOME pictures, more AWESOME Big Bucks and more AWESOME VIDEOS than Dan or anyone.
Ur trail cams are way overpriced sucks cuz thay look like a good camera, but a majority of blue collar guys can't drop almost $500 on 2 cameras plus the service when you can go get 2 spypoint cams for $130 and you get 100 pics every month for free for each camera for one of ur cameras are $350 and for the other one is $180 make it make sense
I hit like before I even played the video. Mr. Infalt's legendary status sells itself.
Clint Ward thanks! Hope you enjoy the video!
Literally watching this video with a notebook and pen! 👍🏻
Gave you a like before I even watched 1 second of the video. I really do appreciate these type of videos.
The buck serial killer, my favorite teacher man great episodes and I’m glad to see you have several episodes with the man himself!
Dan's the Man! We really enjoy your vids and how humble you r with all that talent!
blessings 777 thanks for watching!

Yogi Bear haha he’ll be back!

Can't wait to get back to WI and sit down with Dan again!!

We need a whitetail crib episode with Dan!
Outdoor Family Traditions we’d love to make that happen!
Dan's the best and his training in his video series is still the best. Well worth getting if you hunt any marsh or hill country terrain.
Joe Richards agreed, his DVDs are great!
An absolute killer. That type of knowledge he has in his brain is mind blowing
Love the Vids!!!
Jonathan Gibbons thanks John!
Damn Dan you have killed some monsters!

What yall think about hound hunting
If you're good with Dan then I'm good with you

very good info.i got away from old fashioned cams last yr.i run all cellular now.put it out and leave it even the batteries are external 12volts.
steve starkey that’s great! They are definitely a game changer 👊🏼
I gotta meet dan. True American
All great info. But for me, trail cams hurt more than helped. I can't afford multiple cellular models, so I go in, check my cams, run off the mature bucks. I love tracking in the north east
Try scouting u don't need pictures or a track like larry in Maine
Lol I love his old school ways, it’s the same way I learned from my uncle that taught and showed me things I never would have known. Little details!!
Does anyone know if theres a whitetail wiseman such as dan in Massachusetts?
I feel like the camera companies need to make a camera that has a slimmer profile and mame them to look more like a dead branch that comes off a tree or at least a different shape because every hunter can pick out a square in the woods.
Well said finally my dog would show them to me my German shepherd and deer see them its a odd box there all a sudden
Interviewee always great interviewer rough
Scent doesn't bother deer from touching your camera going into much and those darn red lights screw everything up
Great stuff, one question though... I just put up some cameras 2 Monday on a property, and it rained plenty Tuesday, will that help eliminate my scent and allow bucks to come back perhaps this Thursday or Friday? Thank you.

Be cool to see his trophy room
Coming this fall!
Unfortunately we are not in an area with signal to utilize cell cameras. We tried covert back 2 years ago and although we had 3 bars it still would not connect tso we gave up on them.
I am in a location getting two bars of Verizon service and my render works fine!
The Tinemen

Dans the man!
How come you guys don't talk about the red glowing light or multiple lights once a mature Buck sees those red lights at night he never comes back
Only check my cameras in a good heavy rain ONLY
That's what I do too great minds think alike!!!
That is debatable. There have been several university studies done on scent molecules and how they react in different moisture levels. The data was quite surprising to us. We too used to tell folks to check cameras before a good heavy rain. We plan to cover this topic in much more detail backed by a collection of data later this year.
If your getting nice buck pics in the middle of the night how do u find out where the buck is coming from
Justin Farrell try your best to correlate where he might be bedding!
using the time stamp to judge distance to the bucks bed and direction of travel from that picture are huge pieces of the puzzle. Combine that with your scouting of known beds in the area and the buck practically loads itself into the back of the truck. haha
Keep moving ur cam back in the direction he’s coming from
Direction of travel, times hes coming by, and correlate weather hes on his way to food or back to bed.
Man where can I get that red shirt?!! I want that shirt.
Why do people call this the " old school" way but really its the most efficient present way to hunt big deer.
Cell cameras are too addicting! It started out with one then two then 500 next thing I knew I was taking the $$$ for my mortgage & spending it on camera contracts.. I'm going to the meetings now. (Hunt Cameras Anonymous) it's embarrassing I know but it happens! 🥴

This a joke? lol did you see all the studs he's killed that are clearly older than 2.5-3.5?
I emailed dan about 2 months ago about ordering 4 sticks and he never answered my email. So I went with the new "Hawk Helium" sticks. I really wanted Dan's but I guess he hates money lol
Nevius sorry to hear that. I know they’re expecting a shipment soon.

Hawk makes good sticks... Sorry, I try to answer all my emails but I get to many to look at everyone. And sometimes I miss ones I shouldn't.
@@ExodusOutdoorGear so did I CANT WAIT
Big bucks big bucks blah blah blah, wonder how many hunters he’s stepped on to find these bucks
I think this guy and people like him are the problem! With hunters step on who ever and what ever just the be selfish
Trail cameras will be banned if we don't have limits. One state already started.
Now it's been a year I wonder if Dan killed that buck?
Dan u coming to mich u have to try hunting the biggest swamp in mich dead stream may be I'll see u DEAD STREAM KILLER
Man you guys are easy to please. Send me some trail cameras and I will produce more AWESOME pictures, more AWESOME Big Bucks and more AWESOME VIDEOS than Dan or anyone.
